When you step foot into Glowing Wild, you will feel awe inspired by the captivating animals before you. These enchanting canvas Asian Lanterns stand 20 feet tall, lighting the sky in a rainbow of colors.

Their towering heights will evoke a sense of wonder as you weave your way through the 10 acres of magical scenery. Glowing Wild is perfectly paired with the Year of the Dragon because these art pieces are powerful, adventurous, and strong.

Our multidisciplinary approach is one of the best things about Turtle Bay Exploration Park. Our museum exhibitions are not limited to art, history, or science; they sometimes incorporate more than one of our five disciplines. This spring, we are happy to bring another Minotaur Mazes production that blends horticulture and animals and examines how humans depend on pollinator species. Immerse yourself in this visually stunning, game-based, role-play adventure that explores the colorful and diverse world of pollinator and plant relationships! Developed in collaboration with the Florida Museum of Natural History and the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, Amazing Pollinators weaves fascinating stories with urgent messages about pollinators, their critical work, and their importance to people and the planet.

Yosh Sugiyama: Retrospective Curated by

This exhibition, curated by Alice Porembski and Sue Lang explores the background and works of this internationally-famous Redding woodworker who pioneered and perfected segmented turnings through 23 pieces on loan from community members. An incarcerated Japanese American during WWII, San Francisco-born Yosh Sugiyama moved to Redding in 1961 to direct the Shasta County Health Department laboratory. He retired in 1983 to focus on his lifelong passion for woodworking. His works can be found all over the north state and in collections worldwide.

Education at Turtle Bay Turtle Bayʼs Education Resources are here to turn learning into a fantastic journey for students, whether in or out of school! Get ready for a wild ride through the Famous Artist Program, the Lending Library Program, and the coolest Summer Camps in town.

The Famous Artist Portfolio Program is run by volunteers and teachers who attend special training to bring art portfolios directly into the classroom, including the work of renowned artists. Students have the unique opportunity to explore these masterpieces, gain insight into their creative processes, and learn to appreciate the rich tapestry of artistic expression. This program cultivates artistic skills and encourages a deeper understanding of cultural diversity and historical context. Participation in this program is free. A highlight of this program is the Famous Artists Student Art Show, featuring art created by local students, on display in the Museum until April 28!

Complementing the Famous Artist Portfolio Program is our innovative Lending Library Program. Recognizing the importance of accessible educational resources, this initiative allows educators to borrow various materials, from books to hands-on learning kits. The Lending Library Program is a testament to Turtle Bayʼs commitment to making quality educational resources available to all, ensuring that learning extends beyond the confines of the institution and into the broader community. A minimal yearly subscription to the Lending Library helps cover the costs of consumable materials, including science and art materials.

As the school year concludes, our dedication to education extends into the summer months through our vibrant Discovery Camps. These camps offer a dynamic blend of fun and learning, providing children with engaging activities stimulating their curiosity and creativity. From nature exploration to hands-on art projects, the Discovery Camps at Turtle Bay are designed to make learning an enjoyable adventure, leaving a lasting impact on the young minds that participate. Registration for Discovery Camp will open March 1 at turtlebay.org/camps Turtle Bayʼs Education Resources are not just about learning; theyʼre about unleashing the inner artist, explorer, and dreamer in every participant. Itʼs where education meets excitement, turning each lesson and experience into an unforgettable adventure!

Here Comes Planting Weather When wintertime cabin fever hits, waiting for planting weather isnʼt easy! However, your new plants are much more likely to survive and thrive if you wait to plant until hard freezes pass. Wait until the last frost passes for most spring veggies. Late winter is perfect for garden planning, perusing inventory lists, and looking at gardens in your area.

See our Nurseryʼs inventory web page of plants that grow well in our area. Or come to the Gardens in person, take photos of plants you like, then stop by the Nursery. We can give you detailed information about the plants. We grow many of the Botanical Gardensʼ plants here on site. The Nursery is open to the public Wednesday - Saturday, 9am - 1pm. Our members receive a 20% discount year-round and 30% off during the spring and fall plant sales.

Spring veggies are typically some of the biggest stars of the Spring Plant Sale. We grow dozens of varieties of tomatoes, including many heirlooms. We also grow other spring veggies and herbs. This year, we will also have more California natives and drought-tolerant plants than ever!

New! We will soon be operating out of the new Environmental Resource Building! The ERB features a 56-seat classroom, a nursery shop, workspaces, and restrooms. We are thrilled to be able to hold classes, workshops, camps, and be more in this multipurpose new building.

Sisyrinchium bellum blue-eyed grass: An easy to grow, small California native plant, 1ʼ tall with 1” flowers. It is not a grass, but an Iris relative, growing in large areas of California. Normally dormant during the dry season, it returns when moisture is in the soil. Blue-eyed grass grows well under oaks.

Euphorbia rigida Euphorbia: A low-growing, extremely drought- tolerant plant.

It has architectural leaves and long-blooming bright chartreuse- yellow flowers, which fade to salmon. It is native to the Mediterranean basin and grows well in rocky areas. It needs well-draining soil to thrive. Once established, Euphorbia rigida needs little or no water during the dry season. Add this unique, climate-appropriate, low-maintenance plant to your garden!
