Amor Alternativo Festival Rocked San Carlos with Top Reggae and Hip-Hop Artists
San Carlos se llenó de energía, ritmo y una fusión de géneros en la primera edición del Festival Amor Alternativo. Un evento que celebró la diversidad musical con una alineación de lujo, encabezada por Golden Ganga, la icónica banda de reggae mexicana, junto a talentosos artistas como Julio Ávila, Slim Ans, Sayonara, Luis Mint, XL Reggae, Raíz Vital, Dimitri Saudi y Ramón Vega.
San Carlos was filled with energy, rhythm and a fusion of genres at the first edition of the Amor Alternativo Festival. This event celebrated musical diversity with an outstanding lineup led by Golden Ganga, the iconic Mexican reggae band, alongside talented artists such as Julio Ávila, Slim Ans, Sayonara, Luis Mint, XL Reggae, Raíz Vital, Dimitri Saudi, and Ramón Vega.
Durante la velada, el público disfrutó de una mezcla de reggae, hip hop, rock, electrónica, reggaetón y tech house, creando un ambiente inigualable. La música fluyó, transformando el festival en un espacio de conexión, baile y celebración.
En exclusiva, Adán Núñez, vocalista de Golden Ganga, nos compartió su perspectiva sobre la evolución de la banda, su impacto en la música y su compromiso ambiental. Además, Julio Ávila y Slim Ans, figuras emergentes en la escena, nos contaron sobre sus inspiraciones y trayectoria.
Throughout the night, the audience enjoyed a mix of reggae, hip-hop, rock, electronic music, reggaeton, and tech house, creating an unparalleled atmosphere. The music flowed, transforming the festival into a space for connection, dance, and celebration.

Ya iniciada la gira por los 20 años de historia musical. ¿Cómo ha sido el camino de Golden Ganga desde Zapopan hasta consolidarse como referente del reggae en México?
Ha sido un viaje increíble. La música nos ha permitido conectar con muchísima gente, compartir mensajes positivos y, sobre todo, aprender en el camino. Ha habido momentos difíciles, pero la pasión siempre nos ha impulsado a seguir adelante. Lo más valioso ha sido la energía de la gente y cómo nuestra música resuena con ellos.
Now that your 20th-anniversary tour is underway, how has Golden Ganga’s journey been from Zapopan to becoming a leading reggae band in Mexico?
It has been an incredible journey. Through music, we’ve connected with so many people, shared positive messages, and most importantly, learned along the way. There have been tough moments, but our passion has always driven us forward. The most valuable thing has been the energy from our fans and how our music resonates with them.
Han llevado su música a distintos países. ¿Qué influencias han marcado más su sonido en estos años?
Nos han inspirado artistas como Bob Marley, Sublime, Manu Chao, entre muchos otros. La música no tiene fronteras, y cada cultura con la que hemos convivido nos ha dejado algo. Aprendemos de cada escenario y de cada público que nos recibe.
You have taken your music to different countries. Which influences have shaped your sound the most over the years? We’ve been inspired by artists like Bob Marley, Sublime, Manu Chao, and many others. Music has no borders, and every culture we have encountered has left its mark on us. We learn from every stage and every audience that welcomes us.

¿Cómo ven actualmente la escena del reggae y el ska en México?
Son géneros que han crecido con su comunidad de seguidores fieles. Aunque no son los más comerciales, la escena sigue viva y con propuestas frescas. Hay una necesidad de mensajes positivos y comunitarios en la música, y el reggae siempre ha sido un vehículo para eso.
How do you see the current reggae and ska scene in Mexico?
These genres have grown with a loyal community of followers. While they may not be the most commercial, the scene remains alive with fresh talent. There is a need for positive and community-driven messages in music, and reggae has always been a vehicle for that.
Han trabajado en proyectos de reforestación con Earth Army. ¿Cómo equilibran su impacto artístico con su compromiso social?
Nos tomamos muy en serio nuestra responsabilidad con el planeta. Con Earth Army, hemos lanzado más de 5 millones de semillas en áreas como la Selva Lacandona, el Bosque La Primavera y Cerro Viejo en Jalisco. Creemos que la música es una herramienta poderosa para movilizar y generar conciencia, por lo que invitamos a nuestra comunidad a involucrarse activamente.
You’ve worked on reforestation projects with Earth Army. How do you balance your artistic impact with your social commitment? We take our responsibility to the planet very seriously. With Earth Army, we’ve launched over 5 million seeds in areas like the Lacandon Jungle, the Primavera Forest, and Cerro Viejo in Jalisco. We believe music is a powerful tool for mobilization and awareness, so we invite our community to get actively involved.
Julio Ávila: Entre el regional, el pop y la exploración musical
Julio Ávila: Blending Regional, Pop, and Musical Exploration
¿Cómo ha sido tu evolución musical desde que comenzaste a tocar la guitarra a los 13 años?
Ha sido un proceso de descubrimiento. Empecé con el regional mexicano, pero conforme crecí, me fui acercando a otros géneros como el pop y el hip hop. Disfruto experimentar y fusionar distintas influencias en mi música.
How has your musical journey evolved since you started playing guitar at 13? It’s been a process of discovery. I started with regional Mexican music, but as I grew, I explored other genres like pop and hip-hop. I enjoy experimenting and blending different influences in my music.
Interpretaste “Cicatrices” en la secundaria y eso marcó un antes y un después en tu carrera. ¿Cómo viviste ese momento?
Nunca imaginé que ese día descubriría mi verdadera pasión. Fue la primera vez que canté en público y desde entonces supe que quería dedicarme a la música.
You performed “Cicatrices” in high school, marking a turning point in your career. What was that moment like?
I never imagined that day would lead me to discover my true passion. It was the first time I sang in public, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to music.

¿Qué significa para ti ver el éxito de artistas sonorenses como Carín León y Natanael Cano?
Me inspiran muchísimo. Ver que alguien de tu misma tierra logra tanto te motiva a seguir adelante. Ellos demuestran que no hay excusas para no perseguir los sueños.
What does it mean to you to see the success of Sonoran artists like Carín León and Natanael Cano?
They inspire me a lot. Seeing someone from your hometown achieve so much motivates you to keep going. They prove that there are no excuses for not chasing your dreams.

Slim Ans: From Freestyle to Professional Studio
¿Cómo fueron tus inicios en la música y qué te impulsó a dedicarte al rap?
Todo empezó con el freestyle. Veía a Eminem en “8 Mile” y me fascinaba esa cultura. Luego me metí a las batallas en Hermosillo, hasta que decidí tomarlo en serio y comencé a componer mis propias canciones.
How did you start in music, and what drove you to pursue rap?
It all started with freestyle. I watched Eminem in “8 Mile” and was fascinated by that culture. Then I got into rap battles in Hermosillo until I decided to take it seriously and started composing my own songs.

¿Cómo es tu proceso creativo para componer letras con tanto impacto?
Ahora trabajo de manera más estructurada. Me gusta hacer campamentos de composición con mis amigos, donde nos enfocamos en escribir y producir con metas claras.
How do you approach writing impactful lyrics?
Now I work in a more structured way. I enjoy songwriting camps with my friends, where we focus on writing and producing with clear goals.
¿Cómo ha sido la transición de trabajar de forma independiente a firmar con Sony Music Publishing?
Fue un cambio radical. Antes hacía música por pasión, pero ahora sigo una estructura más profesional. Hay metas que cumplir, tiempos que respetar, pero también muchas oportunidades.
How has the transition been from working independently to signing with Sony Music Publishing?
It was a drastic change. Before, I made music out of passion, but now I follow a more professional structure. There are goals to meet and deadlines to respect, but also many opportunities.
