El Teatro Dr. Oscar Russo Vogel del Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora, es un espacio representativo en nuestra ciudad que ha desempeñado un papel fundamental en la promoción y difusión de la cultura en nuestro municipio. Con una trayectoria de 57 años, nuestro teatro se ha mantenido como un referente del acontecer cultural de la región, siendo un punto de encuentro para la comunidad cajemense y un escenario para una amplia gama de expresiones artísticas y culturales, albergando en su recinto numerosas presentaciones de teatro, danza, música, conferencias, eventos académicos, graduaciones, exhibición de artes visuales y muestras de talleres artísticos, enriqueciendo así la vida cultural de la región, promoviendo y desarrollando un conocimiento sensible en sus visitantes y espectadores.
The Dr. Oscar Russo Vogel Theater at the Sonora Institute of Technology is a landmark in our city, playing a fundamental role in promoting and spreading culture within our municipality. With a history spanning 57 years, this theater has remained a key reference in the cultural scene of the region, serving as a gathering place for the Cajemense community and a stage for a wide range of artistic and cultural expressions. It has hosted numerous theater performances, dance shows, musical events, conferences, academic gatherings, graduations, visual arts exhibitions, and artistic workshops, enriching the cultural life of the region while fostering a deeper appreciation of the arts among visitors and audiences.
En 1995 fue rebautizado como Oscar Russo Vogel, ex rector y destacado profesor e impulsor de la cultura en la región.Además de ser un espacio para el entretenimiento y la recreación, el teatro ha contribuido significativamente al desarrollo cultural y educativo de la comunidad. Ha servido como plataforma para el talento local, brindando oportunidades para que artistas emergentes y grupos de teatro independientes presenten sus obras ante un público más amplio.
In 1995, the theater was renamed in honor of Oscar Russo Vogel, former rector, distinguished professor, and a key promoter of culture in the region. Beyond being a space for entertainment and recreation, the theater has made significant contributions to the cultural and educational development of the community. It has served as a platform for local talent, providing opportunities for emerging artists and independent theater groups to showcase their work to a broader audience.

A través de sus actividades, el teatro ha fomentado el diálogo intercultural y la apreciación de las artes escénicas. Además, en su fachada está plasmado el mural creado por el gran maestro Héctor Martínez Arteche (1934 - 2011 ), Evolucionística del Hombre Venado, de 340 metros cuadrados, realizado en mosaico de vidrio, contribuyendo así al enriquecimiento del patrimonio cultural de Cajeme. Additionally, its facade features a mural by the renowned artist Héctor Martínez Arteche (1934 - 2011), titled Evolucionística del Hombre Venado. ¿Qué te inspiró desde pequeño a interesarse en la innovación y la creación de proyectos enfocados en el cuidado del medio ambiente?
Desde niño, siempre sentí una gran curiosidad por el mundo y las problemáticas de mi comunidad, como la contaminación en los canales de riego y la falta de recursos rurales. Esa inquietud me llevó a desarrollar proyectos como invernaderos automatizados y el ECOBOT Fluvial, que realicé junto con Armando Gálvez y José Guadalupe, combinando tecnología con impacto social y ambiental.
What inspired you as a child to become interested in innovation and the creation of projects focused on caring for the environment?
Since I was a child, I always felt a great curiosity about the world and the problems in my community, such as pollution in irrigation canals and the lack of rural resources. That curiosity led me to develop projects such as automated greenhouses and the Fluvial ECOBOT, which I developed with Armando Gálvez and José Guadalupe, combining technology with social and environmental impact.

Sobre el proyecto invernadero automatizado, ¿qué impacto esperas lograr en las comunidades de bajos recursos?
Pues la idea del Invernadero Automatizado es optimizar la producción agrícola y apoyar a comunidades rurales al maximizar recursos ya que controla la temperatura, humedad y riego mediante una placa controladora, asegurando condiciones óptimas para las plantas. Es una solución accesible, manejable desde un teléfono, que evita el desperdicio de agua, clave para nuestra región.
About the automated greenhouse project, what impact do you hope to achieve in low-income communities?
Well, the idea of the automated greenhouse is to optimize agricultural production and support rural communities by maximizing resources as it controls temperature, humidity and irrigation through a control board, ensuring optimal conditions for the plants. It is an accessible solution, manageable from a telephone, that avoids water waste, which is key for our region.
El recolector de basura en canales de riego ECOBOT es impresionante, sinceramente. ¿Cuál fue el mayor reto al desarrollar este proyecto y cómo lo superaste?
Comenzamos con un prototipo súper básico, usando materiales reciclados, buscando combatir la contaminación en los canales del Valle del Yaqui, esenciales para la agricultura. ECOBOT Pluvial no solo limpia, también monitorea la calidad del agua. Impulsado por energía solar, es autónomo y controlado remotamente, ideal para reducir plásticos y químicos.
The ECOBOT is impressive, honestly. What was the biggest challenge in developing this project and how did you overcome it?
We started with a super basic prototype, using recycled materials, looking to combat pollution in the Yaqui Valley canals, which are essential for agriculture. ECOBOT Pluvial not only cleans, it also monitors water quality. Powered by solar energy, it is autonomous and remotely controlled, ideal for reducing plastics and chemicals.
¿Cómo visualizas el impacto de ECOBOT en la reducción de la contaminación fluvial del valle del Yaqui?
El impacto de ECOBOT es grande porque mejorar la calidad del agua es esencial. The impact of ECOBOT is great because improving water quality is essential. By implementing these ideas, we prevent the sun from degrading plastics, releasing chemicals that contaminate crops and can cause disease when consumed. It is crucial to develop technology to take care of our resources and health.
Participaste en el Congreso Espacial Centroamericano 2024. ¿Qué fue lo más emocionante de esta experiencia y cómo conectó con tus intereses en la ciencia y tecnología?
Lo más interesante fue conectar con más de 8 agencias espaciales, lo que me permitió conocer a grandes personalidades del ámbito. Disfrutamos de conferencias y mostramos el ECOBOT Pluvial. Contamos con Mateo Villarreal, de 12 años, y Daniel Del Río, universitario que ha trabajado con la NASA. Tenemos embajadores de Argentina, Perú, Costa Rica y varios estados de México, apoyados por una ONG y la Agencia Espacial Mexicana. Hemos llevado nuestro proyecto a comunidades rurales como Guerrero y Tabasco, promoviendo tecnología accesible. Con “Donde más brillan las estrellas” buscamos inspirar a jóvenes a superar límites y alcanzar sus sueños.
You participated in the Central American Space Congress 2024. What was the most exciting part of this experience and how did it connect with your interests in science and technology?
The most interesting thing was connecting with more than 8 space agencies, which allowed me to meet great personalities in the field. We enjoyed lectures and showcased the Pluvial ECOBOT. We met Mateo Villarreal, 12 years old, and Daniel Del Rio, a university student who has worked with NASA. We have ambassadors from Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica and several Mexican states, supported by an NGO and the Mexican Space Agency. We have taken our project to rural communities such as Guerrero and Tabasco, promoting accessible technology. With “Where the stars shine brightest” we seek to inspire young people to overcome limits and achieve their dreams.
Como estudiante de preparatoria, ¿cómo equilibras tu tiempo entre tus estudios, tus proyectos y tus intereses personales?
Es muy dificil, a mi me apasiona tanto la tecnología que, una vez me intereso en un tema en específico, comienzo investigarlo y ahí se me pasan horas y horas, es difícil tener un equilibrio entre mis intereses como en mis deberes y claro, en lo social, cosa que no está en mi agenda, me doy mis tiempos para la escuelas, mis deberes y la ciencia.
As a high school student, how do you balance your time between your studies, your projects and your personal interests?
It is very difficult, I am so passionate about technology that, once I get interested in a specific topic, I start researching it and I spend hours and hours there, it is difficult to have a balance between my interests and my chores and of course, socially, which is not on my agenda, I give myself time for school, my homework and science.
¿Qué papel juega tu familia o tu entorno en el desarrollo de tus proyectos y en la motivación para seguir adelante?
Realmente tienen una posición importante en este juego, desde que le dije a mi mamá de iniciar a participar en mis proyectos, ella comenzó con la motivación y es con quien celebro mis logros.
What role does your family or your environment play in the development of your projects and in the motivation to keep going?
They really have an important position in this game, since I told my mom to start participating in my projects, she started with the motivation and she is the one with whom I celebrate my achievements.

Al llegar a la CDMX, experimenté fiestas masivas, eventos con DJs y una diversidad cultural impactante. Estas experiencias me inspiraron enormemente para darle un toque único a mi música en el proyecto de Simpson Ahuevo como solista.

¿Qué te inspiró a convertirte en periodista y cómo comenzó tu trayectoria en los medios?
Desde pequeña me fascinaba el mundo de los medios. Mi abuelo trabajó en la Conagua, y verlo rodeado de cámaras y comunicando me marcó profundamente. Mi primera pasión fue el periodismo deportivo; soñaba con narrar partidos como José Ramón Fernández o David Faitelson. Sin embargo, mi camino cambió cuando viví en Estados Unidos. Ver las injusticias en México, como el caso de la guardería ABC, despertó mi interés por el periodismo social. Decidí regresar a México con una mochila y mi auto, convencida de que quería hacer un cambio desde mi profesión.
Michelle Rivera: Veracity and credibility in the news.
Michelle, what inspired you to become a journalist and how did your career begin?
I have been fascinated by the world of media since I was a child. My grandfather worked at Conagua, and seeing him surrounded by cameras and communicating deeply marked me. My first passion was sports journalism; I dreamed of narrating games like José Ramón Fernández or David Faitelson. However, my path changed when I lived in the United States. Seeing the injustices in Mexico, such as the ABC daycare case, awakened my interest in social journalism. I decided to return to Mexico with a backpack and my car, convinced that I wanted to make a change through my profession.
Del deporte a temas como seguridad y política, ¿qué retos has enfrentado y cómo los superas?
El reto principal es la responsabilidad de informar sin sesgos, algo que reflexioné mucho recientemente con un caso doloroso en Sonora. Es difícil equilibrar la integridad, la seguridad personal y la familiar. He aprendido a tomar decisiones que protejan mi bienestar y el de quienes me rodean, sin comprometer la verdad. La experiencia me ha enseñado a navegar por situaciones complejas sin cruzar líneas que puedan ponerme en peligro.
From sports to issues such as security and politics, what challenges have you faced and how do you overcome them?
The main challenge is the responsibility to report without bias, something I reflected on a lot recently with a painful case in Sonora. It is difficult to balance integrity, personal and family safety. I have learned to make decisions that protect my well-being and that of those around me, without compromising the truth. The experience has taught me to navigate complex situations without crossing lines that could put me in danger.
Como corresponsal nacional, ¿cuáles han sido las historias más significativas que has cubierto?
Las historias de violencia me han marcado profundamente. Recuerdo el asesinato de un bebé en Maycoba y el de un niño migrante de cuatro años. Estos casos me impactaron como madre y periodista, reforzando mi compromiso de dar voz a los inocentes. Otro evento significativo fue el asesinato de trabajadores de la CFE en la sierra. Narrar estas historias es doloroso, pero necesario para visibilizar las realidades de Sonora.
As a national correspondent, what have been the most significant stories you have covered?
Stories of violence have marked me deeply. I remember the murder of a baby in Maycoba and the murder of a four-year-old migrant child. These cases impacted me as a mother and journalist, reinforcing my commitment to give voice to the innocent. Another significant event was the murder of CFE workers in the highlands. Narrating these stories is painful, but necessary to make the realities of Sonora visible.
¿Cómo equilibras informar sobre temas delicados sin generar alarma?
Es un desafío constante. Publicar imágenes o videos impactantes puede generar críticas, pero a veces es necesario para llamar la atención de las autoridades. Siempre evalúo los riesgos antes de compartir información, priorizando el impacto positivo sobre la audiencia.
How do you balance reporting on sensitive issues without generating alarm?
It is a constant challenge. Publishing shocking images or videos can generate criticism, but sometimes it is necessary to draw the attention of the authorities. I always evaluate the risks before sharing information, prioritizing the positive impact on the audience.

¿Cuál ha sido el momento más gratificante de tu carrera?
Sin duda, ser parte de Radiofórmula. Estar al aire en cadena nacional, rodeada de figuras icónicas del periodismo, fue un sueño hecho realidad. Formar parte de este cambio generacional en la radio es un reflejo de años de esfuerzo y el respaldo de la audiencia.
What has been the most rewarding moment of your career?
Without a doubt, being part of Radio Fórmula. Being on the air on a national network, surrounded by iconic figures in journalism, was a dream come true. Being part of this generational change in radio is a reflection of years of effort and audience support.
¿Qué papel juega el periodismo en Sonora, un estado con desafíos tan particulares?
Sonora tiene un impacto nacional. Es un estado fronterizo y un punto clave para temas como migración y tráfico de drogas. Nuestro trabajo permite que estas realidades sean visibles a nivel nacional, lo que no es fácil de lograr, pero es esencial para el cambio.
What role does journalism play in Sonora, a state with such particular challenges?
Sonora has a national impact. It is a border state and a key point for issues such as migration and drug trafficking. Our work allows these realities to be visible at the national level, which is not easy to achieve, but is essential for change.
¿Cómo podemos fomentar mayor respeto hacia el periodismo en la sociedad actual?
Es difícil ejercer el periodismo en una época donde se da más crédito a blogueros, pese a la experiencia que tenemos como reporteros y youtubers y lo digo con todo el respeto. La falta de recursos y convenios gubernamentales ha afectado la credibilidad del gremio. Es fundamental que el público contraste información, confíe en fuentes responsables y evite adoptar criterios sin cuestionarlos. Al igual que otros sectores, el periodismo enfrenta desafíos por las circunstancias políticas actuales.
How can we encourage greater respect for journalism in today’s society?
It is difficult to practice journalism in an era where most credit is given to bloggers, despite the experience we have as reporters and youtubers, and I say this with all due respect. The lack of resources and governmental agreements has affected the credibility of the guild. It is essential that the public contrasts information, trusts responsible sources and avoids adopting criteria without questioning them. Like other sectors, journalism faces challenges due to the current political circumstances.
Finalmente, ¿qué legado deseas dejar como periodista?
Quiero ser recordada como una periodista empática y comprometida con las causas reales de los sonorenses y mexicanos. Mi sueño es ser reconocida como la mejor periodista que ha tenido Sonora, alguien que inspiró cambios y dio voz a quienes más lo necesitaban.
Finally, what legacy do you wish to leave as a journalist?
I want to be remembered as a journalist who was empathetic and committed to the real causes of Sonorans and Mexicans. My dream is to be recognized as the best journalist Sonora has ever had, someone who inspired change and gave a voice to those who needed it most.

I’d love for you to tell me a little about your roots and what your childhood in Guaymas was like. What shaped the woman you are today?
My childhood in Guaymas was very happy and free. My mom encouraged me to do sports from a young age—I started swimming at seven, played soccer in high school, and returned to swimming in middle school, which eventually led me to the gym at 14. That’s how Caro Fitness and Carolina were born, right?
Did you adopt the nickname “Caro Fitness” from then on?
In high school, my dad inspired me to study medicine. After university, I planned to go to Germany, studied German, and worked in a hospital, but I didn’t have the money required for the visa. That’s when Caro Fitness was born as a hobby—I posted on social media about training together, and 30 people signed up!
How was your experience studying medicine at the Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara? What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them?
My biggest challenge was balancing studies and exercise. In my first year of medical school, I didn’t have access to a gym, and my parents prioritized my academic adaptation. But I realized that exercise is essential for my physical and mental well-being. Overcoming those challenges shaped me into the resilient person I am today.
Me convertí en atleta este 2024 y espero mi primera competencia ahora en este 2025. Equilibro mis facetas porque mi emprendimiento refleja lo que me apasiona. Cuando trabajas con el corazón, todo fluye, incluso en los momentos difíciles. La disciplina y constancia son claves, nunca es tarde para empezar. / I became an athlete in 2024, and I’m preparing for my first competition in 2025. What daily habits or rituals do you practice to stay focused, motivated, and healthy?
Besides exercise and nutrition, the key is to enjoy the present, focus on the now, and move forward with small daily steps.
What has been your biggest challenge as an entrepreneur, and what did you learn from that experience?
I always wanted to return to medicine and pursue a specialty abroad, but I realized how much I love Mexico. Now, as an entrepreneur, my biggest challenge is to position my brand, keep growing, launch new products, and reach more people.

¿Cómo comenzaste tu carrera en TUFESA y qué te llevó a especializarte en telemetría y administración de mantenimiento? / How did you start your career at TUFESA and what led you to specialize in telemetry and maintenance management?
Llegué a TUFESA casi por casualidad. Venía de trabajar en otro estado y planeaba quedarme solo dos o tres meses en Ciudad Obregón Sonora, ya que esperaba una llamada de Veracruz tras un examen de colocación. Sin embargo, me adapté rápidamente al equipo de trabajo y decidí quedarme. Empecé como auxiliar de tacografía en un pequeño departamento de tres personas, y esa experiencia marcó el inicio de mi camino aquí. / I came to TUFESA almost by coincidence. I was coming from working in another state and planned to stay only two or three months in Ciudad Obregon Sonora, as I was waiting for a call from Veracruz after a placement exam. However, I quickly adapted to the work team and decided to stay. I started as a tacography assistant in a small department of three people, and that experience marked the beginning of my path here.
¿Podrías compartirnos una breve descripción de tu día a día como coordinador de telemetría en la empresa? / Could you share with us a brief description of your day-to-day work as telemetry coordinator at the company?
Cada mañana, inicio con la Reunión de Inicio de Actividades (RIA), donde el equipo comparte pendientes y objetivos del día. A partir de ahí, superviso su trabajo, apoyo en problemas y gestionar reuniones con proveedores y mis superiores. Es un balance dinámico entre planificación, seguimiento y colaboración constante / Every morning, I start with the kick-off meeting, where the team shares pending and objectives for the day. From there, I supervise their work, help with problems and manage meetings with suppliers and my superiors. It is a dynamic balance between planning, follow-up and constant collaboration.
