When my grandmother was 26, she had an experience that left deep emotional scars. Finnmark was set on fire, and she and her husband and their three little children had to flee their home – or face death. For three weeks they were on the run, hiding in a small fishing boat. Taking care of the family was always an important part of my grandmother’s life, but today the family has fallen out of touch with each other. This film is about my attempt to gather the family once more to take one last family portrait – and to find out why things turned out the way they did.
THE DIRECTOR:
Yvonne Thomassen (b. 1977) from Alta, Norway studied journalism, TV production and directing at the University of Stavanger. Based in Bergen, she now works with film on a daily basis, and has contributed to several documentary films and fiction features. MY FAMILY PORTRAIT is her first feature documentary film.

Consisting of archive photos, super 8 footage, and interviews with old-timers, First Nation storytellers, historians, local characters and modern mushers, the film offers a rare glimpse of a nearly forgotten method of transportation and way of life. It’s the greatest story never told about the wild and wonderful history of the Klondike!

the temptress – «A dramatized documentary». Three years ago during my research for the temptress, I met a beautiful, tall and dark lady. We began discussing how it is to be a foreigner in Norway. In her shy and thoughtful way, Victoria Wol told me a fable about our lives, a universal story that she was told when she was a little girl in a village in Africa. This magical story, set in South Sudan and Norway, highlights the fact that every advantage holds a disadvantage. the temptress is a filmed meditation on temptation. To be more alert is to be more alive.
