A look at our poignant traditions of Remembrance
Remembrance honours all those who served to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life
As we head in to November and the UKprepares to observe one of its most poignant traditionsRemembrance Day - Portishead residents can be proud of the way our town, led by the Royal British Legion (RBL),marks the period of Remembrance with poppies, parades and services
The red poppy is a sign of both Remembrance (remembering those who lost their lives in conflict) and hope for a peaceful future
The period of Remembrance in Portishead began with the placing of large red poppies on lampposts throughout the High Street on Saturday 18th October and then on Sunday 19th October ?Tommy?statues were placed on the Portbury Hundred roundabout, another visual reminder of the sacrifice made by countless individuals
Poppies will be on sale from Saturday 25th October until Saturday 8th November (inc) from a number of donation points including Waitrose and Sainsbury?s supermarkets, Gordano Motorway Services and various Portishead businesses that support the Poppy Appeal The Poppy Appeal is the RBL?s biggest fundraising campaign, with donations from every poppy purchased going towards making
a difference to the lives of the armed forces community
Remembrance Sunday is the Sunday before Armistice Day ? this year it?s 9th November
A Remembrance Parade will take place in our High Street on this day, ahead of a church service at St Peters Church (full details on the facing page)
It?s a moving experience to be a part of the crowds lining the street to watch Portishead?s Remembrance Parade go by The parade, including a marching band, veterans, serving military personnel and a whole host of community groups, evokes a sense of great pride and respect
Armistice Day,also known as Remembrance Day,is observed on 11th November to commemorate the end of World War I,when fighting ceased at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 The day is marked with a two-minute silence at 11am to remember all those who have given their lives in wartime and other conflicts So on Tuesday 11th November an open service will take place at Waitrose piazza starting at 10 45am during which the two minute silence will be observed ? the 11th day of the 11th month at the top of the 11th hour

Lest we forget
On Remembrance Sunday - 9th November ?
hundreds of people will join the Portishead Remembrance Parade, with many more lining the parade route.
The parade will fall in at 10 30am at the Stoke Road and High Street junction and the Act of Remembrance service will take place at the junction at 10 45am, with audio provided along the High Street.A two minute silence will be observed at 11am, remembering those who gave their lives, followed by the last
post played by a bugler from Portishead Town Band before the parade sets off at approximately 1105am
The parade will head along the High Street with a salute being taken outside Tudor Garage and eyes to the left at the RBL Memorial Stone at the Brampton Way (Albert Road) junction, before the parade continues on to Church Road South and into St Peter?s Church for a Remembrance Day service,to which all are welcome

By local radio,TV and podcast guru Ian Downsy Downs
Iwas once interviewing local billionaire businessman Steve Lansdown for a charity event for Children?s Hospice South West and I asked him:?How do you know when you?ve made it??
He turned around, with a twinkle in his eye and said:?The kids stop asking to borrow the car and start asking to borrow the plane instead ??We both chuckled What a lovely man he is

But when do we know we?ve made it? I guess everyone has a different answer, but for me it was when Disney came knocking
Voiceover work goes hand in hand with radio and TV presenting - my profession since I was 18 That said, not all presenters are great at voiceover! My first gig was for another radio station up north I recorded all the idents between the songs (station identification pieces to reinforce branding etc ) plus the news and travel intros It?s a different skill to presenting - you need that big, bold, piercing voice to cut through all the other noise people hear day to day
Next,I moved into TV and voiced a commercial for ?Our Price?which was having its biggest summer sale ever My mum was super proud to hear me on TV as
well as on radio, even though you couldn? t see my face on either!
I then did a whole host of corporate voiceovers for companies making in-house videos,as well as lots of what we call phone prompts - the voice that says:?Please key in the extension number you require,or hold for assistance ? Those were nice little earners, but slowly but surely us professional voiceovers are being replaced by AI voices - so don? t believe everything you hear!
Then one day Vue asked me to be the voice of the cinema at Cribbs, the manager there listened to my radio show and thought it would be great cross promotion I?d be his voice over and we got tickets to give away on air

Each month I?d record a new advert about upcoming movies and special offers So if you were ever sitting in the cinema and heard someone say:?Sit back, relax and enjoy the Vue?that was me!
Another highlight was becoming the voice of the red Bristol Sightseeing tour bus I recorded pages of Bristol?s history in a tiny booth in the bowels of the old Evening Post building Anyone who knows me knows I love Bristol?s history,so that was a joy
I combined both my worlds when I became the voice of all Ashton Gate?s ITV adverts for their concerts last summer and I also voiced a documentary for the RNLI Most recently,I became the voice of The Curzon cinema in Clevedon - a charity I?m proud to support by giving my services for free
But the moment I really knew I?d made it was when I got a call from Disney asking me to be the voice of Father Christmas on all their adverts in every English-speaking country I couldn? t believe it! A very good friend of mine (also from Portishead),who works for Disney, had suggested I audition I thought there was no chance, not in a million years? but a few weeks later, there I was, being directed by the Disney team It all became very real when the director said:?Downsy, can you leave a little room for Mickey to laugh there please??
You know you?vemadeit whenyou needtoleavespacefor Mickey Mouse tolaugh, right?

By Angela Kingdon,an American living in Portishead
When British people find out I?m new to the country, they almost always look at me with big eyes and ask: ?Are you doing okay with weather??The question comes with raised eyebrows and a kind of sympathetic bracing,as if they?re expecting me to confess misery; they are usually stunned when I tell them I love it

The rain gets all the bad press, but I don? t get what all your whining is about I feel like it stops as much as it starts I love the sounds of those sudden downpours and I know they will clear up 20 minutes later, often accompanied by a rainbow right over the estuary It?s an all natural little reality TV show episode playing out just for us!
Maybe the key is that I?m an avid indoors-woman and this weather is perfect for the things I love most, reading and writing There's nothing quite like settling in with a good book while the wind whistles against the windows,or spending a Sunday working on an outline for a new book project while staring at the clouds moving up the Bristol Channel from Cardiff to Newport My writing projects have flourished here! There's something about grey skies that makes you want to create something thoughtful and profound British weather nudges you toward study, reflection and long conversations It?s a climate that makes you smarter if you let it I finally understand why so many of the world?s best literary artists come from this relatively small country
And then there?s how it brings people together On rare bright days,my sister-in-law?s garden becomes the heart of our family life, with everyone gathering for meals, laughter and cups of tea under the sun British people truly savour their time in the garden, perhaps because each lovely day feels like a gift When it isn? t sunny, there are other kinds of togetherness
If Denmark has hygge, Britain has what I?ve come to think of as epic cosy I delight in fires roaring in pubs, wellies by the door and Sunday roasts after a damp walk These aren? t occasional indulgences, they?re cultural cornerstones I am absolutely convinced a pot of tea tastes even better when shared on a rainy day Without drizzle, would ?cosy?even exist as a national trait?
So while my friends in America picture me forever damp and shivering, the truth is I?ve found a kind of weather that suits me It?s not tropical paradise, but it?s a landscape-maker,culture-shaper and a reason so many poets, painters and writers keep describing the sky

This summer Portishead High Street traders also endured long road closures which resulted in a down turn in trade.Enjoy recently talked to some of the traders who admitted trade is currently ?very quiet?

Here are five good reasons to shop local:
1Using your local independent traders helps build local communities and strengthen the local economy
2 You are helping to protect the small businesses which add character and diversity to our town
3 You get a personal service where the people serving you actually care

A careers officer at school laughed at Alan Cheesley when he said he wanted to be a computer programmer, today he runs a successful digital company while also finding time to maintain his passion for cycling
Having always had an interest in computers, after an early career as a successful salesman and trainer, Alan Cheesley, who grew up in Portishead and now lives with his family in Easton in Gordano, soon recognised the digital future He started creating websites, combining search engine optimisation (SEO) and his sales knowledge to create enticing messaging When this had significant results,in 2002 he formed Flow Online, now a successful company dedicated to helping small businesses thrive -

focussing on impactful messaging, largely through email marketing and SEO
Outside work Alan has always liked to keep fit and developed a passion for cycling, often for charity Alongside running Flow Online,Alan has now launched a new project combining his ITskills with his passion for cycling to offer self-guided cycle tours, helping others share his tried and tested adventures

Enjoy editor Tracey Fowler talks to Alan Cheesley as he launches cycle4fun to help cyclists enjoy adventures in places they never thought possible
WHAT MADEYOU TAKEUP CYCLING?
Largely to stay fit and healthy, but cycling has also given me the confidence to?try the unknown and untested In addition I found there?s great camaraderie when cycling in a group,it really is a great way to travel!
I UNDERSTAND YOU?VE ORGANISED AND TAKEN PART IN MANYCHARITYCYCLES?
Yes,I?wanted to cycle the Great Britain Coast, but knew I needed accountability Having connected with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in Portishead,I was given a lot of support and encouragement and thus the RNLI GB Coast Rides were formed ?RNLI?has?nearly 5000 volunteers and I chose to cycle 5000 miles of the GB coast to raise £10,000 for them ? I visited?194 RNLI stations,?cycling?7,221km (4,487 miles) and?climbed?68,276m (that's 42 miles vertically)

:Taken at the end of the Great Weston Ride in July 2025,which is a 58 mile ride over?the?Mendips raising money for Bristol and Weston hospitals
Many people cycled along with me and great friendships were established all around the Great British coast My aim is to publish these rides with detailed?maps in the near future
WHAT MADEYOU DECIDETO PUBLISH CYCLE GUIDES?
I thought my experiences would be of interest to other cyclists I want to help everyone enjoy cycling adventures with maximum fun and freedom in places they never thought possible ? I have 16 fabulous rides documented in great detail so far,all handpicked holiday destinations with choices of cyclist-friendly accommodation and ready-to-ride
cycling routes I have made the first ride into a product for just?£39,so that others can take away the pain of planning their own trip, save costs by not going on an organised trip and have complete control, taking just part of the trips if they want to The one I have published so far is for Croatia and the Dalmatian Islands Croatia is a wonderful country and the Dalmatian Islands are really special I have written the guide first hand and recorded videos which I think will help others feel more? confident?about cycling in places which may feel out of their comfort zone They can learn how to avoid busy roads and how to?cycle safely? in places they?never dreamed possible, with the freedom to ride solo or with friends,at?their own pace, within?their own set budget
If the success of this first guide goes well,I will publish the other destinations with a trip over The Alps next on the list!
Meanwhile you can find free guides for cycling inspiration and lots more information at www cycle4fun co uk

he Nursery in Portishead?s Combe Road is often in the news due its exceptional community engagement and the exciting adventures the children enjoy From taking part in beach cleans and picking pumpkins during farm visits,to dressing up for World Book Day,inviting a dentist to visit them and delivering the plants they donated to the community garden,it?s all fun and games for the children It?s not only the children who are cared for however? ?When a child joins The Nursery the whole family becomes one of our families?says strategic manager Natalie Konarzewska,?The Nursery is often called upon to advise on sleep patterns, behavioural issues and a variety of needs at home as well at nursery Our aim

is to always support parents and offer help and advice whenever we can and the same goes for our staff ?
Jackie Hardie, owner of The Nursery, the only independently owned nursery in Portishead, explained:?We are very much aware that a nursery is only as good as its team Our staff range from qualified teachers and highly qualified nursery practitioners to those on an apprenticeship and experienced support staff and we understand that in order for our staff to give their best,we need to give them our best ?
The Nursery is pretty unique in that its leadership team consists of not one manager, but a team of managers

Natalie picks up the conversation She said:?Having a leadership team rather than a single manager has many benefits such as?joint decision-making, increased innovation and greater employee engagement ?Sharing responsibilities allows for diverse perspectives, better task delegation and a more collaborative and resilient culture within the nursery Having different personalities, different approaches and different experiences within the leadership team makes the management more approachable A member of staff might have a preference as to which member of the leadership team they wish to confide in or approach with a problem over others and that?s fine We promote wellness and understanding amongst each and every team member so it?s important to us that staff feel the management is completely approachable It is also important to us that our leadership team members have worked in the nursery rooms with the children so they fully understand what is involved in the day to day operation and are empathic with our teams?

Finally Jackie added:?The most important thing for us is to find the right people with the passion and dedication to deliver unique opportunities and help create memorable childhoods for those in our care

This season, step into the warmth of The Windmill, where crackling fires, twinkling lights and the comforting clink of glasses set the tone for unforgettable celebrations

Lauren Denyer shares her favourite winter warmers
Whether it?s a hearty roast,a cosy café lunch,or a cheeky dessert to end the day, there?s something about autumn and winter that makes comfort food hit differently Here are some of my favourite ?go to?places, when I?m looking for good food, good vibes and a little escape from the chill outside
Great for a curry night, the atmosphere here is warm and friendly, with staff who make you feel right at home The menu has just what you would expect from your local curry house, from creamy kormas and rich balti to spicier dishes bursting with flavour alongside traditional Indian dishes like Dansak - made with mutton, lentils, herbs and spices and Dupiaza dishes, a staple of Indian cuisine prepared with large amount of onions. The food is always fresh, beautifully cooked and the portions are generous, making it great value for money There is also free, private parking right outside

I always feel Hall & Woodhouse is the kind of place you can dress up for,or just pop in for a casual meal - it?s smart, contemporary and a bit quirky, with great views of the marina The menu is packed with delicious options, from coffee and cake to a range of lunch and dinner choices, not forgetting the cocktails! November,as we celebrate 17 years in business,we will see how far we can ride between 10am-8pm on a stationary cycle placed within the salon Members of team Tonic will cycle in relay throughout the 10 hour period and we will ask friends and clients to guess the distance they think we will travel,in return for a donation There will then be a lovely prize for the person who gets closest to the distance covered As our anniversary coincides with the week of Black Friday,we will have some exciting offers available throughout that weekend too We invite everyone to call in and support this great cause ?

By Steve Harper, osteopath at Walnut Grove Clinic
In today's world, many of us spend a significant amount of time sitting at a desk in an office or home environment. However, prolonged sitting can have a negative impact on our posture and overall health. This is where the importance of ergonomics comes into play.
Ergonomics is the science of designing the workplace to fit the worker, rather than forcing the worker to fit the workplace By incorporating ergonomic principles into your office setup, you can reduce the risk of developing musculoskeletal issues such as back and neck pain

One of the key components of ergonomics is ensuring that your workspace is set up in a way that promotes good posture When sitting at your desk, make sure that your chair is adjusted so that your feet are flat on the floor, your knees are roughly at a 90-degree angle and your back is supported by sitting right into the back of the chair Your computer monitor should be around eye level, with your keyboard and mouse placed within easy reach
In addition to having an ergonomically-friendly workspace, the most important thing to do is to take regular breaks from sitting and keep mobile Getting up and moving around every hour can help prevent stiffness and improve circulation This doesn? t have to be for very long, only a minute or two but anything that breaks the length of time sitting is not only good for the body,it also helps with concentration and
problem solving Consider setting a timer or using a desk app to remind you to take breaks throughout the day
To further support good posture which can help alleviate back and neck pain, incorporating specific exercises into your daily routine can be beneficial These are a few exercises that can be done while sitting at your desk:
Gently tilt your head to one side, holding for a few seconds before switching to the other side Repeat several times to help release tension in the neck and shoulders
Roll your shoulders in a circular motion, moving them up,back, down and forward This can help release tension in the shoulders and upper back
Sit up straight in your chair, place your hands on your knees and round your spine like a cat. Then, arch your back and look up towards the ceiling like a cow Repeat several times to improve spinal mobility
Sit up straight in your chair, place one hand on the opposite knee, and twist your torso to the side Hold for a few breaths before switching to the other side This can help improve spinal flexibility and reduce tension in the back
All these exercises should be pain-free; if they are painful to perform then stop immediately By incorporating these exercises and ergonomic principles into your daily routine, you can help improve your posture, which in turn will help reduce the risk of developing musculoskeletal issues and increase overall comfort in your office environment
If you are experiencing persistent back or neck pain, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional, such as an osteopath, who can provide
personalised advice and treatment options to address your specific needs At Walnut Grove we have a number of professionals here to help just give us a call, pop in or visit our website for more information

Life can sometimes feel like it?s moving faster than we are Between responsibilities, expectations and unexpected challenges,it?s easy to lose the sense that we?re steering our own ship But taking back control doesn? t always mean changing everything at once - it starts with small, intentional steps
First, reclaim your time Look at where your energy goes each day Set boundaries where you need them and protect moments for yourself, whether that?s rest, reflection,or pursuing something meaningful
Next, reset your mindset.Control begins with how you respond to what life throws at you You may not be able to control every situation, but you can choose your attitude and actions Practicing gratitude, mindfulness,or journaling helps anchor your thoughts and gives you clarity
Finally, realign with your values Ask yourself:?What matters most to me right now??
When your choices reflect your priorities, you?ll feel more confident and empowered
Taking back control isn? t about perfection - it?s about direction Each decision,no matter how small,is a reminder that you are capable of shaping your own path The moment you decide to step forward with intention, you?ve already begun

Follow in the footsteps of poets on this short, circular, coastal path in Clevedon
Poets?Walk is a little over a mile in length but the area includes a wealth of features, including limestone grassland, woodland,a rich diversity of wildlife,an Iron Age fort, Second World War shelter and stunning views across the Bristol Channel
The site is managed by North Somerset Council with help from the Friends of Poets?Walk volunteer group and thanks to their hard work, some old footpaths have been reopened Poets?Walk is a tranquil route around Church Hill and Wain?s Hill Its name is a reference to the English poets Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Alfred Tennyson, who visited Clevedon and were inspired by the time they spent there

on your left,a sculpture erected in 1994 which includes lines from Tennyson?s poem In Memoriam AHH Ahead of you will be views of St Andrew?s Church, which viewers of ITV?s Broadchurch will recognise
Start at the pay and display car park at Salthouse Fields,or park considerately on the road and head to the signposted walk, taking the stone steps up into the woodland Turn onto the right-hand path which leads to a view point at the end,a big stone circle Turn left up some steps and continue to the lookout This was built in about 1835 by Ferdinand Beeston, then owner of the Salt House It is known as the Sugar Lookout After a few yards take the second path on your left, and then follow the zigzag path immediately on your right,up through the woodland Follow this path to the top of the hill and you will come to an iron cross bollard This originally marked the top of the (then fenced) zigzag path and prevented grazing cattle from wandering onto the path From here, take the right-hand path which leads back downhill You will pass the Tennyson posts
Continue down the path and at the junction with the formal path, take a sharp right and then a left, following the signpost to the Iron Age earthworks This paved path runs around the peninsular and was constructed in 1929 Near the end of Wain?s Hill, leave the formal path to take the zigzag woodland trail to your right This leads out onto the road so go past the cottages, allotments and town cemetery Turn left up to St Andrew?s Church and after passing the front of the church, take the right-hand path, signposted to Salthouse Fields Continue on the paved path until you see a woodland trail going up on your left Follow this trail until you get to some woodland steps, which then lead you back down towards Marine Lake and Salt House Fields Alternatively you can continue straight on to return via the lookout
The walk is about a mile and a half on relatively easy terrain but has many steps

Royce and Jodi Chiddle moved to Portishead 11years ago and can? t think of anywhere else they?d rather be.
Royce is from Norfolk and Jodi from Cornwall They met when Royce was working in Cornwall Jodi was later offered work in Ham Green and bumped in to an old college friend who introduced her to Portishead In 2014 Jodi and Royce made the decision to start their chapter together here
Royce is an experienced carpenter and found work easily In 2015 the couple bought their first property together in Portishead and transformed their one bed bungalow into a three bed two storey house They did all the design and the majority of the work themselves and whilst Royce is the expert and led the extension,Jodi got some great hands on experience too. This is when Royce decided to start his own business and RHC Carpentry and Building was established
Jodi said:?We know exactly how it can feel living in

and around disruption,so we make every effort to minimise this wherever possible and always have this in mind when planning projects with customers?
Fast forward 11years and Royce and Jodi love living in Portishead with their two children and two dogs Royce has built a strong reputation for high quality workmanship and the success of the business means he and Jodi are able to give back to the local community and beyond

Portishead business supports children?s hospital charity
This year?s Grand Walk,a family friendly sponsored walk on the Ashton Court estate raising money for Bristol Children?s Hospital, received exclusive sponsorship from Portishead business RHC Carpentry and Building
The charity is one close to the hearts of Royce and Jodi, who run the company,as their children have both received care at the hospital:their little boy when he was just a few days old and their daughter for several days early this year.
Royce said:?We believe it is important for local businesses to give back to their community and to good causes and our personal experiences of the care and expertise provided by Bristol Children?s Hospital left us eager to support them ?
The sponsorship meant that all costs for The Grand Walk were covered by the local firm, resulting in every penny raised by the participants going directly to helping the children?s hospital and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Bristol The amount raised was in excess of £29,000!
More than 400 people took part in the event, completing a 15km or 5km route, with a few Wallace and Gromit sculptures to spot along the way and a surprise appearance from the Wallace and Gromit Moon Rocket balloon
RHC Carpentry and Building provided a stand on the day which included sand play areas with children?s play trowels,a crane, toy dumper trucks, foam building bricks and pull back construction vehicles Each child also received a role play yellow safety helmet, with a mini tape measure and a strip of construction vehicle stickers to decorate their helmet with, which was a huge hit with everyone
The Grand Walk is not the first time the Royce family have supported the charity Jodi explained:?In May this year,at the age of three years and two months, our daughter Ebony ran her first ever race to raise money for The Grand Appeal - the AJ Bell 15km Mini Run for three to eight-year-olds We are so proud of her and feel this was a fantastic achievement at such a young age ?
Jodi also raised money for the charity, taking part in the AJ Bell Half Marathon in May this year

The Grand Appeal is the official Bristol Children's Hospital and this year it celebrates its 30th anniversary in partnership with Aardman Animations? Wallace and Gromit The Grand Appeal was founded in 1995 with a single mission to raise £10 million to support a new building for Bristol Children?s Hospital; 30 years later, having generated around £90 million, the charity continues to raise funds to enhance the service provided by the hospital
During the past 30 years the charity has invested in: an free accommodation for families whose child is being treated at the children?s hospital; medical research programmes; state-of-the-art equipment and music, play and art therapy that help young children to deal with the stresses and fears they may face during treatment For more details about The Grand Appeal visit www grandappealorg uk

Tracie Fry takes a closer look at this curious rule for home decor
Have you ever wondered why some homes feel comfortable and balanced? It's something you can't put your finger on but it just flows,it's easy on the eye and feels natural It may be a hack I've been learning about called the 3-5-7 rule - using the power of odd numbers to create visually appealing displays and layouts in your home A playful guideline that, when you think about it,has been with us for decades and has maybe gone unnoticed (think about the three-piece suite and a nest of tables) It's a fascinating idea that's not only effective but is easy to apply once you know what it is So,
1.
here's the 'ology bit - our brains are wired to look for patterns and order, but a little asymmetry keeps things interesting! Even numbers tend to feel static and predictable, creating a block, while odd numbers encourage our eyes to move around, allowing us to notice subtle visual triangles that feel more natural and engaging This creates a home that feels considered, less staged, and ultimately, more pleasing to the human eye This November, why not sprinkle a little 'odd' magic in your home and free up some flow!
Your coffee table is a prime candidate for the 3-5-7 rule Instead of a lone book or a pair of coasters, think in threes Imagine a stack of three chic design books, topped with a delicate candle and nestled beside a small, sculptural object like a unique paperweight Voila! Instant interest and sophistication
3.

2.

These can quickly become cluttered The 3-5-7 rule comes to the rescue! Instead of cramming every inch of space, create curated groupings On one shelf, you might have five objects:a small plant, two vertically stacked books,a decorative bowl, and a framed photo The varied heights and textures will draw the eye in and make your collection feel thoughtful and arranged
Creating a gallery wall can be daunting, but the 3-5-7 rule is your secret weapon! Instead of a symmetrical grid, aim for an odd number of frames Start with a central piece, then build outwards A collection of seven varied-sized frames, perhaps mixing photographs with abstract art, will create a much more dynamic and artful display than an even number of perfectly aligned pieces The slight imbalance makes it feel more organic and personal

Ready to give it a go? Play with threes, fives and sevens! You'll be amazed at how this simple trick can transform your space and bring a delightful sense of harmony and style to every corner of your home.Happy designing!

With Linda Hodgetts from Portishead Horticultural Society
As November arrives, provided we haven? t had any serious frosts and the soil is warm, you can plant bare root trees and shrubs in addition to planting up some spring bulbs
As we approach winter you will need to protect plants from frosts by having some horticultural fleece available and if necessary, bringing any non hardy plants indoors or taking some cuttings

am planning on restoring it as I like to feed the birds at this time of the year I usually put some fat balls out as well as a premium wild bird feed mix in addition to a supply of water
Now is the time to clean up the garden by removing any dead annuals and clearing any fallen leaves to prevent disease
Having removed my bird feeder earlier in the year I
Some lawns may have developed large patches of what looks like dead grass over the dry period but the recent rain should have helped I will be scarifying my lawn and over seeding and feeding ? which will hopefully restore the lush green sward Talking of lawns, the need to cut the grass reduces at this time of year and some advocate not cutting from November on However I have to say if the lawn is not too wet,I have cut mine in late December and even January!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the team at Springboard Opportunity Group,a wonderful local charity providing vital early years support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Springboard runs four sites, one in Clevedon and three in Weston and supports families across Clevedon,Portishead and the surrounding areas

Many of the children who attend Springboard face complex challenges, including physical disabilities, learning difficulties, autism, sensory needs and life-limiting conditions Guided by their vision, the team works tirelessly to give every child the best possible start in life and to help families feel supported within an inclusive, caring community

As an Associate Partner Practice of St James?s Place,Powell & Associates Financial Planning was delighted to help fund some much-needed new safety fencing which ahs now been installed at Springboard Clevedon, thanks to a successful grant from the SJPChildren?s Foundation Bristol
Ruth Glover,CEO of Springboard Opportunity Group, said:?We?re so grateful to Sara and Rich from Powell Associates and the SJP Children?s Foundation Bristol for helping us make these important safety improvements?
This winter, the charity will be running fundraising Christmas wreath-making workshops ? a perfect way to get into the festive spirit, learn a new skill and support a fantastic local cause

As we approach the end of 2025 we thought it would be prudent to suggest you take a look at how you have used your money this year and think about your plans for 2026!
HAVEYOU USED YOURISA ALLOWANCEFOR2025/ 2026?
You can have £20,000 tax efficiently in one ISA a year and this can be set-up or topped up into a current ISA up to the 5th April 2026.
Did you know you can open a

Junior ISA and add in £9,000 tax efficiently a year?
HAVEYOU PUT ASIDESAVINGS FOR NEXT YEAR?SHOLIDAYORHOUSE RENOVATIONS?
What budget do you have?
How much could you save a month towards a holiday, for special occasions, gifts etc?
Have you considered opening a separate account to start saving for those nice things or when things go wrong, such as your car or the boiler?
The end of the year can be a great time to take a financial review, make sure your money is working for you and plan ahead Pop into our High Street premises located in the Old Bakehouse Courtyard,by Ebb & Flo and the courtyard of shops,if you would like to discuss or book a no obligation financial review
The value of an ISA with St James?s Place will be directly linked to the performance of the funds selected and may fall as well as rise You may get back less than you invested
