FROM: MAYOR MATTHEW FRIES

Hello Severance!

I want to extend a HUGE thank you on behalf of the Town Council and Town Staff, to the 50 plus residents and stakeholders that attended our State of the Town-Town Hall on February 25th. The Town of Severance will be a better place for all of us, because you showed up, asked questions, expressed concerns and simply participated in your town government. We heard you, and again, THANK YOU!

Town Hall meetings, which are not formal meetings where decisions are made or votes taken, are not streamed live or recorded. The reason for this is that we want everyone to show up in person to facilitate a real conversation. On February 25th, that happened. We fielded over 25 questions and received dozens of comments. It never ceases to amaze me; what is on residents minds. I was so impressed with the diversity of questions and concerns. Most of the neighborhoods in Severance were in attendance. We will have another Town Hall in late summer. Look forward to details of that meeting coming soon. Maybe we can see even more of our awesome residents at that meeting, or there is always opportunity for public comment during our regular council meetings held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings

If you have any comments on why we do not stream or record these Town Halls, you can direct them to me. It is my decision. mayor@townofseverance.org.

Hope to see you around town!

Matthew Fries

TOWN COUNCIL CORNER

FROM: COUNCIL MEMBER

DAN MEYERS

Hello Fellow Residents,

My name is Dan Meyers, a member of your Town Council. At our recent State of the Town meeting, we were met with a full house of residents and business owners The Council and Management are grateful to all that took the time to attend and discuss the multitude of issues that face our community. I would ask that our guests spread the word of issues that we addressed in the Town Hall. Topics for discussion ranged from mosquito fogging to recreation to economic and commercial development and many topics in between. As in past town halls, the discussion was quite civil and I believe most walked away with a better sense of the functioning of our town.

I mentioned time and as we grow older, we understand the value of time and how it is spent In retirement, I have found that giving back to my community is a worth while use of my time. The flexibility (morning/afternoon meeting) as well as no deadlines or commitments, allow the retiree the time to focus on town issues. I have been fortunate over the last 4.5 years in meeting and speaking with so many of our residents. As retirees know, retirement is what you make of it and I would encourage public service if one is so inclined. As I have found, there are opportunities on Council, Planning Board, Tree Board as well as the

Citizens Advisory Board. Being involved will give you all the incite one may seek in how our government works here in Severance.

There are many ways in which a retiree may spend his or her time. One may believe that retirees do nothing My experience is that the large number of us enjoy filling our time with volunteer work, recreational activities and time with family and friends. It’s not always about the financial gain. I for one, after 35 years of productivity in the pharma industry, have decided to give my time to our town in several capacities. I am presently a council member, a liaison for the Windsor-Severance Historical Society and the Weld-RE4 school district as well as an alternate on the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization. These are all very time consuming and satisfying positions and a sense of accomplishment is the reward of participation. In my spare time, I enjoy the challenges of being on the Tailholt Metro District Board I do keep plenty of time to spend with friends and family and enjoy the multitude of recreational and culinary opportunities here in Colorado. Retirees do more than nothing.

I encourage anyone from 18 to 108 to get involved. While there are challenges and time commitments in every position, there are also rewards to be gained So come join us as a board or commission member or simply come to meetings (or Zoom) to listen and if warranted ask any questions that you might have.

If you have any questions or comments for me, do not hesitate to contact me at: dan.meyers@townofseverance.org

Emergency Preparedness

CodeRed, the Emergency Notification System in Weld County, is used by public safety officials to inform the public of immediate threats to health and safety. Sign up for the Weld County CodeRed alert system on this website:

https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/en-US/BF9B9A570C0B

Learn more about CodeRED: CodeRED will only be used for emergency situations near your specific address to keep you informed. We may use CodeRED to issue evacuation notices, shelter in place or lockdown orders, severe weather alerts (must opt in) as well as other public safety emergency information.

SIGN UP FOR CodeRED ALERTS

The system is geographically based, alerting only residents in the affected area. You will ONLY be alerted if there is an emergency near your address. Citizens may select how they would like to receive alerts; phone call, text and/or email. Emergency alerts are issued by the Weld County Regional Communications Center (WCRCC). A follow-up message will be issued by the WCRCC to announce an “all-clear.”

Weather alerts, which you must opt in for, are passed through the CodeRED system and sent by the National Weather Service.

Citizens need to register to receive alerts through their cellphone, text or email. Landlines in Weld County are automatically enrolled into the CodeRED system.

Registering for CodeRED is FREE and simple. There is also an app called CodeRED Mobile Alert that you can download for free onto your smartphone for free from iTunes or Google Play. (Additional fees may apply to use all features in the app.)
