YOU ARE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO PLAN
Estate planning is not just for the wealthy. Any person over the age of eighteen should be considering it. Everyone from students heading to college to their grandparents and great grandparents should be talking about having certain documents in place.
The first document to consider is a Health Care Proxy. A proxy says who you choose to make medical decisions if you cannot make them for yourself. Consider the college student who may be under anesthesia for a surgery or the older individual who has some dementia or other cognitive impairment; both circumstances call for an agent under a health care proxy to make decisions. Some choose to supplement the proxy with a Living Will, which will express your wishes with respect to end-of-life decision making. This document can direct that certain treatments be stopped if they are only serving to prolong your life where there is no reasonable expectation of recovery.
A Power of Attorney authorizes the person you appoint as agent to handle all business and financial decisions as if they were you – including but not limited to banking transactions, real estate matters, and any other instance where finances are involved. Most college freshmen are 18, newly deemed adults under the law. By executing a power of attorney, they can give
parents the ability to access their bank account and assist with other financial items that they have always assisted with when they were minors. A power of attorney can be simple or can confer more complex powers, depending on the situation. For older individuals who may be concerned about diminishing mental capacity, having a power of attorney should eliminate the need for the Court to appoint a guardian to handle financial affairs.
Beyond these documents that are concerned with your affairs while you are alive, it is also important to plan your estate for after death. This can be done through a Last Will and Testament (a “will”) or a Living Trust. A will determines how your assets are distributed at the time of your death. In its basic form, it outlines who will be in charge of your estate, the executor, and what persons or charities you will leave to, beneficiaries. There are several kinds of trusts you can create during your lifetime. Depending on how it is written, trust benefits can include avoiding the Courts after death, protecting assets for Medicaid planning, or reduction or elimination of estate taxes after death.
Estate planning is not just for the wealthy and it is not just for the old. Different stages of life and individual circumstances call for proper planning at all ages.

Long Island, as we all know, is a special place for many reasons. Whether it is time spent in the Hamptons, enjoying the outdoors, or catching those incredible days at our ocean beaches, not much can compare to a perfect day out-east.
Another fascinating aspect of Long Island is it’s world-class fishing. Even if you aren’t a fisher, enjoying local Long Island Seafood is an opportunity not to be missed. We are in a special place; the Labrador Current draws cold water species down from the North off of our shores, and the Gulf Stream Current brings Southern species up from the South. These two currents almost create a ballet of advances and releases throughout the year. Along with this ever-performing dance of ocean currents, comes some of the most bountiful, unique and sought-after seafood that we are known for around the world. So, let’s talk about all of these special, and sometimes hidden, local treasures!
Last year we had mentioned an exciting potential opportunity that has now arrived…Atlantic Royal Red Shrimp!!! Shrimp that are local to Long Island, WHAT?! Yes, it is true, off the coast of Long Island, in very deep water, there is a variety of shrimp called Royal Red Shrimp that migrate up and down the East Coast depending on the time of year. To harvest these shrimp, a special set of circumstances and harvest methods need to align to have a successful landing such as this.
At Haskell’s Seafood Market and Cafe on Main Street in Westhampton Beach, you can discover this new “shrimp lovers” opportunity and experience true wild-caught Long Island shrimp. Royal Reds are sweet and succulent. Their texture can be comparable to fresh lobster, and even more tender. Haskell’s Seafood offers Shrimp Cocktail, Shrimp Salads, Shrimp Rolls, Cajun Buttered Shrimp and Fried Royal Red Shrimp as an offering to explore the diversity of this lesser known deep sea treasure. As these local shrimp have not been treated with any preservatives that most other shrimp have been subject to, you will have a pure and true experience as to what local wild caught shrimp can taste like in it’s most honest form.
There is another deep-water Long Island fish that we see throughout the year called Golden Tilefish. If you have ever enjoyed Golden Tilefish before, you may have noticed that it too has a sweet and almost crustacean-like flavor to it. It just so happens that Golden Tilefish and Royal Red Shrimp reside in the same deep waters of the ocean… and you guessed it…Golden Tilefish LOVE to eat Royal Red Shrimp! At Haskell’s Seafood, we enjoy sharing the information of all these fascinating facts about our local waters.
Ever heard of “Pumpkin Swordfish”?! Highly sought after by Chefs, the Pumpkin Swordfish gets this name due to the color of it’s flesh. It’s not a different type of Swordfish by nature, but the color and flavor of swordfish changes due to what it is feeding on. I’ll bet at this point you have guessed right again! When Swordfish feed on a high diet of Shrimp, it in fact changes the flavor and color of the fish to possess a sweetness and pumpkin-like rosy hue. All of this is happening right off the coast of Long Island thanks to the Royal Red Shrimp!
“So why haven’t I heard of or seen Royal Red Shrimp at grocery stores of markets before?”, one might ask. There is a very good answer to that. Some of our local seafood opportunities are boutique, meaning that some things just haven’t been marketed or made commercially viable due to the specialized effort that is needed to make a harvest possible. Haskell’s Seafood, founded by Captain Peter Haskell, maintains direct relationships with our fleet of fishing boats on the East End of Long Island which makes it possible for us to rediscover seafood opportunities that one may have never seen. Haskell’s Seafood is not only committed to only working with the local seafood harvests of Long Island, but we are a direct conduit to our local fisheries with no one in the middle. Local seafood is harvested, Haskell’s Seafood thoughtfully prepares, and we then want you to be the direct recipient of our East End’s bounty!
Much of our fisheries are about telling its story. Many of us have our own, growing up and fishing on the bays of Long Island, bringing the catch back to the house for an evening feast with family. It truly is our heritage on Long Island that we are talking about and sharing that story keeps heritage alive and well. We encourage this type of conversation at Haskell’s Seafood which often leads to education passing back and forth, awareness of our surroundings, and a responsible role that is played in the big/small picture of our Local Seafood Landings. I often say to myself, “What better of a life could you live, sharing all of this with others, experiencing the seasonal offerings year after year, and celebrating life on Long Island the same way it has been done for centuries, but doing it today and each day thereafter.” We look forward to all of your visits at Haskell’s Seafood this season and thank YOU for being a part of the big/small picture here on the East End of Long Island!

Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) Now Provides Convenient Air Service on Six Air Carriers
What’s new at Long Island MacArthur Airport? There are so many new and exciting upgrades to share! In the past five years, we’ve welcomed four new air carriers bringing the total to six airlines at ISP, serving 18 nonstop destinations, plus easy connections across the U.S. and beyond. Eighteen direct destinations is the highest number we’ve had since 2004 or possibly ever in Long Island MacArthur Airport’s long history. Our two newest air carriers are Avelo Airlines and Cape Air.
Avelo Airlines is a low-fare air carrier with a strong reliability record that frequently flies to hassle-free airports like ISP. Avelo will serve Charlotte’s Concord Padgett Airport (USA) and Central Florida’s Lakeland Airport located about halfway between Orlando and Tampa. Additionally, Avelo now serves the trendy destination of Wilmington, NC known as “Hollywood East” due to its role as a major film and television production hub. Additionally, Wilmington’s coastal charm, history and beautiful beaches presents a strong draw for Long Islanders.
Cape
Air Serves Boston Nonstop
Cape Air brings frequency and convenience to commuters and air travelers between Long Island MacArthur Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport and beyond. Cape Air flies the new Tecnam Traveller aircraft offering customers a private jet-style experience. The flights are ideal for Hamptons travelers heading to New England, the Cape and Islands, along with day trips to Boston from Long Island. Cape Air serves ISP four times daily with efficient, scenic, and stress-free travel and connections to major air carriers flying across the U.S. and even internationally.
“We’ve been working hard for many years to make Long Island MacArthur Airport a highly desirable place for new airlines and customers,” said Long Island MacArthur Airport Aviation Commissioner Rob Schneider. “We also put effort into the airfield itself along with additional emphasis on air service development and marketing initiatives. Ensuring state of the art security is another area of focus in 2025,” he added.
Kudos and Recognition for MacArthur Airport
In 2024, Long Island MacArthur Airport was selected as one of the 10 Best Small Airports in the U.S. for the fourth consecutive year by USA Today. The Wall Street Journal also recently praised our airport naming it among U.S. “Haven” airports for its laidback vibe and convenience. We also received recognition from Discover Long Island in the form of the Tourism Trailblazer Award. In 2025, The Washington Post ranked Long Island MacArthur Airport as one of the 50 best airports in America. “We are most grateful for these honors and could not achieve our success without the ongoing support of our loyal customers, and the leadership of Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter and the Town of Islip Board,” said Schneider.
What Does the Future Hold?
With its central location and promising opportunities for future growth, Long Island stands well positioned to enjoy the convenience of additional air travel, the attention of new air carriers, and the jobs and economic vitality that come with a dynamic airport. With the support of Supervisor Carpenter, the Islip Town Board, and the airport’s strong leadership, ISP remains critical to the prosperity of both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
“Long Islanders love to travel and we’re delighted to bring more options right to Islip’s easy Long Island MacArthur Airport. We’ve been listening to our customers and working hard with air carriers to bring new destinations for local residents and provide easy ways for visitors to access all the beauty of our Long Island home,” said Town of Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “All six of our air carriers help us drive economic growth and connectivity,” she added.
Across Long Island, residents celebrated JetBlue’s arrival at ISP in the autumn of 2024. JetBlue serves Orlando, Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale nonstop from ISP. The addition of JetBlue offers Long Island customers greater convenience and access to their favorite Florida destinations on New York’s Hometown Airline. The new convenience is bringing new customers to ISP to enjoy JetBlue’s award-winning service.
It’s also noteworthy to mention Breeze Airways’ announcement of nonstop service from ISP to Sarasota, FL along with new Wilmington, NC flights. In total, Breeze now offers eight nonstop destinations from Long Island MacArthur Airport along with BreezeThru flights (one stop / no plane change) to New Orleans and Tampa. Inside the Terminal and on the airfield, MacArthur Airport staff continues to make improvements to the customer experience along with infrastructure and other upgrades. Airlines are taking notice of our efforts.
The airport’s proximity to the Ronkonkoma / MacArthur Airport Long Island Railroad remains a significant feature both for transportation connectivity now and in the future. The Town of Islip formally issued a Request for Qualifications for private developers for a Terminal and Rail Integration project on April 8, 2025. You can learn more at ISPTerminal.com.

Why Air Tags Are a Traveler’s Best Companion
In today’s technology-driven world, air tags have emerged as essential tools for travelers, offering a practical way to enhance security and peace of mind. These small, lightweight devices use Bluetooth technology to connect with your smartphone, allowing you to monitor the location of your belongings in real-time through an app.
One of the primary concerns for travelers is the safety of their luggage. Lost or stolen luggage can quickly turn a dream vacation into a nightmare. By placing an air tag in your suitcase, you can track its location instantly, providing valuable information to airlines if your luggage goes missing. This real-time tracking can significantly reduce the anxiety associated with waiting for your bags at the carousel, as you’ll receive an alert as soon as your luggage appears.
Personal items such as wallets, passports, and electronics are often carried during travel, and losing any of these can disrupt your trip. Attaching air tags to these items adds an extra layer of security. For example, if you accidentally leave your wallet in a café, the air tag will alert you and guide you back to its location.
Air tags are particularly useful for group travel, helping to manage multiple belongings. By tagging each person’s luggage and important items, group leaders can ensure that nothing is left behind. This is especially beneficial for families with chil-
dren or large tour groups.
Solo travelers, too, can benefit from the reassurance provided by air tags, allowing them to monitor their items closely. Whether exploring a bustling city or relaxing on a beach, knowing your belongings are secure and easily locatable offers peace of mind.
Traveling with high-value items such as cameras, laptops, and jewelry requires extra precautions. Air tags can enhance security for these possessions, helping authorities recover items more efficiently in case of theft.
Using air tags effectively involves purchasing from a reputable brand, setting up the tags according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and attaching them securely to your belongings. Monitoring your items through the app and setting up alerts can further ensure accurate tracking.
Air tags are invaluable travel accessories, providing real-time tracking and enhanced security. Whether you’re a frequent flyer or an occasional traveler, air tags can make your journeys stress-free and enjoyable.
