n recognition of the fire service, the Westhampton Beach Historical Society, in cooperation with the Eastern Long Island Antique Fire Apparatus Association, presents an Antique Fire Apparatus Exhibition on the Great Lawn. Apparatus from the 1920s, 30s, 40s will be on display, as well as a Fire Prevention Trailer and Fire Education Program.

Eastern Long Island Executives (ELIE) is a regional networking organization dedicated to the promotion of business on the East End of Long Island. It started over 30 years ago as a monthly networking and educational forum with dinner meetings held at the Culinary Institute of Suffolk Community College. In December 1998 ELIE was established under the laws of New York State as a not for profit corporation. Following the severe economic downturn at the end of 2008 ELIE changed the format of its organization to a regional networking group with one member per industry. It currently has 30 members who meet once per month for breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express in Riverhead. In addition, ELIE hosts 4 to 5 networking events throughout the year that are open to the entire area business community.

Thee Greater Westhampton communities are famous for their Atlantic Ocean white sugar sand beaches on the barrier island known as Dune Road. Which community you live in determines which beaches you can actually access. The Villages of Westhampton Beach, Quogue and West Hampton Dunes each have their own municipal beaches for their village residents while the surrounding hamlets and have fewer free options available to them. In addition to these municipal beaches, there are ample private beach clubs and hotel related accommodations that will offer great beach experiences in the Greater Westhampton communities.
VILLAGE OF WESTHAMPTON BEACH ROGERS BEACH Full-service Main Village Beach Pavilion just south of the Beach Lane Bridge is complete with public restrooms, snack bar concession, changing rooms with lockers as well as both indoor and outdoor showers. Lifeguards are on duty during summer season. LASHLEY BEACH @ JETTY 4 Limited-service Village Beach Pavilion with public restrooms and outdoor showers. This is a preferred local surf spot with a more relaxed atmosphere also with lifeguards on duty during the summer season. Both of these Village of Westhampton Beach locations maintain parking lots and are accessible by permit for Village residents at no cost. Non-resident beach stickers may be obtained at the Municipal Building on Fridays between the hours of 4-7pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. The Village extends beach privileges as a courtesy to taxpayers and year-round residents residing in the hamlets of Westhampton, Quiogue, Remsenburg and Speonk for a fee. Summer renters inside the Incorporated Village’s boundaries may obtain beach privileges for a fee. Summer renters in the hamlets of Westhampton, Remsenburg, Speonk and Quiogue may obtain beach privileges for a fee. At no time is random parking permitted on Dune Road for public beach access. VILLAGE OF WEST HAMPTON DUNES The he beaches of the Village of West Hampton Dunes have had the honor of being designated as one of the top best restored beach in the United States following years of both short-term and long-term re-nourishment. Access to the Atlantic Ocean beach for Village residents and leaseholders ONLY is via a series of boardwalks over the dunes throughout the village. Lifeguards are not provided and at no time is random parking permitted on Dune Road for public beach access. PIKE’S BEACH This Town of Southampton limited service beach located in the Village of West Hampton Dunes is operational for residents and leaseholders within the Town of Southampton as well as non-residents. It was opened in the late 1990s after having been closed for more than 10 years. This 400 foot beach offers lifeguard supervised swimming, sunbathing, and bathroom facilities. Lifeguard on duty between 10 am and 5 pm. Parking Fee: Charged 10 am to 5 pm. A permit is required 7 days a week from June 1st through September 15. Seasonal Beach Fees for Southampton Town Residents $30 / Vehicle, Senior Residents $20 / Vehicle, Non-Resident $225 / Vehicle and NON-RESIDENT DAILY PASSES $20 / per day. For access information to Pike’s Beach in West Hampton Dunes as well as Ponquogue Beach and Tiani Beach further west in the communities of East Quogue and Hampton Bays, contact the Town of Southampton Department of Parks and recreation at 631-728-8585 CUPSOGUE BEACH This 296 acre Suffolk County barrier beach park offers lifeguard-supervised swimming, sunbathing on white sand beaches and some of the finest saltwater bass fishing to be had on Long Island. A food concession, restrooms, first aid center, showers and changing rooms are all conveniently situated at Cupsogue’s pavillion. Campers and recreational vehicles are permitted along the access road running parallel to the outer beach. Diving is permitted at slack tide on the bay side of the park only. Michael Paraskevas has been an illustrator since graduating from The School of Visual Arts in 1984. He then went on to receive his MFA from SVA in 1986. He’s worked for most major magazines including Sports Illustrated, Time, Town & Country, New York Magazine and Rolling Stone, to name but a few. Michael Paraskevas has also illustrated and written 24 children’s books over the years with his mother, Betty. The two went on to create and write the animated East End Hospice television series Maggie and the Ferocious Beast for Nickelodeon. Westhampton Free Library The Westhampton Free Library is your community center, providing a wide spectrum of programs and services to meet the needs of our population in a safe, socially distanced atmosphere. In other words, the library is your hub for entertainment, information and technology resources. There is always something happening at our beautifully renovated Westhampton Free Library. The recent renovation project included the conversion of 2,500 square feet of unused space into usable space. Our children’s program room was expanded and our main floor was reconfigured to accommodate a more efficient flow, additional book stacks and a quiet study room. Adults can learn about everything from history to travel as part of our ongoing Link and Learn series. They can also participate in our writers’ groups or join our book discussion group. This summer, we are hosting a fabulous bus trip to a Brooklyn Cyclones game, as well as Monday Night Movies on the Great Lawn. Our health and exercise classes, some offered virtually and others at the beach, include Senior Total Fitness, Senior Tai Chi, Zumba Gold, Yoga, Pilates and Meditation. Children can make discoveries in our second-floor Idea Place. Programming for children and families includes story time, reading clubs, music and movement classes for toddlers, cooking classes, craft workshops and much more. You can also visit the Tween Scene that’s reserved just for kids ages 10-12. In our Teen space, young adults can read, play video games, watch movies and visit with friends. The library has something to offer everyone at any age. Our collection is diversified. Throughout the library, you will find DVDs, digital audio and video players, video games, magazines, newspapers, graphic novels and, of course, lots of books. Our patrons also have access to an extensive collection of e-books and audiobooks that can be downloaded onto smartphones, laptops and tablet computers. If you are having trouble figuring out how to use your personal electronic device, then visit our Library Geeks at our Inspiration Bar – the hours are available in the library newsletter. Continue your education through Universal Class, which offers over 500 online classes, all from the comfort of your own computer and on your own time schedule. The Westhampton Free Library has been the community’s educational hub since it opened its doors in March of 1897 with a charter granted by the State of New York and signed by Melvil Dewey, creator of the Dewey Decimal System. In 1951, our original Library Avenue building opened and served the community for more than 100 years, providing generations of families with books, music and programming. In June 2010, our new state-of-the-art library opened its doors to the residents of Westhampton, Westhampton Beach, Quogue, East Moriches, East Quogue, Eastport, Remsenburg and Speonk. Our library is beautiful and environmentally responsible. The renovated building features efficient lighting, occupancy sensors, high-efficiency heating and air conditioning units, plumbing that reduces water usage by 45% and solar panels that generate 8% of our energy. The Westhampton Free Library is a special place where families can come together to learn, read or just have fun. This summer, we will offer hundreds of programs. Book Bundles: Are you stuck in a reading rut? Or are you just in a hurry and want to grab a few books but don’t have time to browse? Try our book bundles! Each book bundle has three books (or two books and a DVD) based around a different theme (for example, “Madcap Adventures,” “When You Need a Good Cry,” “Fathers and Sons” and “Looking Back on a Long Life”). Take a look at our Book Bundles display when you visit the library and check one out! Don’t see a bundle that feels right for you? Fill out our What Should I Read Next form, and we’ll put together a bundle just for you.

Hold My Spot: Hold My Spot allows devoted fans of certain authors to have a copy of new books automatically placed on hold. Fill out the form and pick as many authors from the list as you like. When your chosen author(s) publishes a new book, a hold will be placed on it for you automatically! Each time an author publishes a new book, the order of the hold will be randomized to ensure that all participating patrons have an equal chance to be first in line.

Ann Skovek Seed Library
In honor of Ann Skovek, who left a generous donation to the Library, we are offering our Seed Library once again to card-holding library patrons. Patrons can stop by the library’s Reference Desk to “check out” an array of seed packets that are hand-stamped and come complete with growing instructions. Available seeds include vegetables, such as arugula and beans; herbs, such as basil and cilantro; and flowers, including calendulas and nasturtiums. Limited to four seed packets each month, per household.

M
ost industries, with few exceptions, were affected by the international COVID-19 crisis. Aviation was not immune. Six of the largest US air carriers lost $35B and 700 US domestic routes were cut. As one of the largest industries in the United States, aviation has seen more than its share of adversity throughout the last several decades and it’s resilient --so is Long Island MacArShelley LaRose-Arken thur Airport (ISP). While the Town of Islip owns and operates MacArthur Airport, it is truly an asset for Long Island and the entire region. The airport brings thousands of skilled jobs to our area and is consistently an economic engine. Regional airports like Stewart and Westchester County Airports had no commercial traffic during the summer and fall of 2020. MacArthur, even at its lowest point, had one average daily departure in May 2020 and began to rebuild. ISP routinely encouraged its air carriers American, Frontier and Southwest Airlines to add capacity when consumer behavior and confidence supported it. This enthusiasm prompted Southwest Airlines to begin new nonstop service daily to Nashville in June 2021, and Frontier Airlines to begin nonstop service to Las Vegas in November all from Long Island MacArthur.
Today MacArthur Airport is already operating at 2016 service levels and is expected to be at pre-COVID levels before the end of 2021 When comparing same destinations at our competitor airports, MacArthur Airport travelers were more responsive, and MacArthur Airport is also recovering faster. Industry leaders suggest that it will be 2024 before air travel and the industry recovers. However, today Long Island MacArthur Airport is already operating at 2016 service levels and is expected to be at pre- COVID levels before the end of 2021. This is in large part due to leisure travel demand, and Long Island’s commitment to its regional airport. Business and international travel have been slow to rebound in today’s climate. In a recent survey of Long Island air travelers, customers enjoy the experience of traveling from MacArthur Airport because it’s clean and convenient. In April 2020, MacArthur was the first airport in the country to install a continuous air surface purification system that eliminates airborne and
surface pathogens, as well as the installation of anti-microbial films at high touch surfaces. Efficient security lines and space to social distance also entice leisure travelers to choose MacArthur Airport. On the aircraft, passengers can feel confident traveling, as cabin air exchanges 20 times per hour. There have been zero recorded COVID outbreaks among passengers at airports as of December 2020 according to a study by, Harvard T. H. Chang School of Public Health.
The airport is rebuilding and reimagining with more than $60M in capital programs completed or in progress over the last five years. Some of these projects include two runway rehabilitations, four taxiway rehabilitation projects, construction of a new fire rescue building, rehabilitation of the west terminal apron, mechanical electrical and plumbing upgrades, main terminal roof replacement, and the construction of a new ground vehicle transportation center that will offer travelers a better customer experience. A public workshop is scheduled to explore possible terminal alternatives to support airport demand in the future and to connect the airport more seamlessly with the Long Island Railroad. The alternatives also include a better customer experience, long term flexibility, operational efficiencies, ability to accommodate new modern aircraft, and a customs facility to meet new facility requirements to accommodate international flights. Concessionaires and vendors are getting innovative and offer touchless pay methods for parking and grab and go food and beverage options. This summer, Blue Point Brewery will be the newest concession for travelers to enjoy a taste of local Long Island fare. Long Island MacArthur Airport was selected by USA today as the #4 best small airport in the country with nonstop destinations to 12 domestic cities – Atlanta, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Meyers, Las Vegas, Miami, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tampa, West Palm Beach and connections to many more domestic and international destinations.
