On August 6, 2025, we held a special meeting to discuss how The Woodlands Township can work with partner agencies on an educational campaign about pathway safety, with a focus on the growing use of electric devices such as e-scooters and e-bikes. According to the Township Order 019-09, these devices are prohibited on Township pathways. However, usage has increased, particularly among children ages 9 to 14, many of whom ride without helmets. These devices are more affordable and accessible than ever, but they also present serious safety concerns. Helmets remain one of the most effective ways to prevent serious head injuries, yet the majority of riders, whether on an electric device, bicycle or scooter, do not wear them. At higher speeds, falls or collisions can cause severe injury, especially when no protective gear is worn. Public education is essential. Our goal is to inform residents not only about the prohibition but also about general pathway safety and etiquette.
Representatives from multiple agencies joined us at the meeting, including Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Harris County Constable Precinct 4, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3, Montgomery County Commissioners Precincts 3 and 4, Harris County Commissioners Precinct 3, Conroe Independent School District, Tomball Independent School District, Montgomery County Hospital District, the cities of Oak Ridge North and Shenandoah, and the Village Associations of Alden Bridge and College Park.
One of the most important outcomes of the discussion was the agreement that we must reach parents as the primary influencers of safe behavior for children and teens who use pathways for commuting, recreation or socializing. We discussed the importance of modeling and reinforcing safety practices such as slowing down around others, staying to the right and passing on the left, using signals or verbal cues when passing, wearing helmets, avoiding distractions and respecting all pathway users, including those with strollers or mobility aids.
We are grateful for the strong participation and support from our partner organizations. Through the Respect the Path campaign, we and our partners will share safety information in the coming weeks and months. We encourage all residents to follow pathway rules and model safe behaviors to protect themselves and others.
Sincerely,
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TYPICALLY MEETS on the third and fourth Thursday of each month at Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., 6 p.m., unless posted otherwise. Residents are encouraged to attend.

Denisse Jose and her father, Alejandro, ran in the Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas race together in 2024. Although it takes quite a bit of work for most people to prepare for a 10-mile race, for Denisse it’s a whole lot more.
Denisse was born premature in Monterrey, Mexico in 1994. The challenges she faced during the first six months of her life included a brain injury due to hemorrhages caused by excessive time on the respirator, the loss of one eye and damage to the optic nerve of the other eye, resulting in blindness.
At six months of age, Denisse was evaluated by a neurologist. The prognosis was that she would not be able to walk and would also have serious issues with motor skills, hearing problems and intellectual disabilities.
Denisse started on a long recovery journey with an abundance of effort, love and prayer, where she did approximately 13 hours a day of rehab with her parents, including multiple therapies to stimulate all areas of her brain. Denisse has had an amazing, even miraculous recovery where she began to amaze her loved ones by doing things that the doctors said she would not be able to do.
Now 30 years old, Denisse is fully functional physically, but still legally blind due to the physical damage in her one eye. She lives with her parents, who provide ongoing support and supervision. She enjoys a tremendous amount of love and care from her family and multiple friends.
Her training started in April with long runs on Saturdays with her father and two runs a week with her mother, Patricia. When asked who had the most energy or endurance toward the end of the race, Alejandro exclaims, “Denisse, of course! She ran the race talking all the time with other friends we found along the way.”
Denisse was very happy doing the race and during the whole training process and wants to do the race again. She and her family have lived in The Woodlands for 18 years and have found a large group of loving friends and a place where she lives a very happy and fulfilling life. She is truly an inspiring example of hard work, resilience, love and a whole lotta grace.

What does Patriot Day mean to you?
For me, Patriot Day is a time to remember those we lost on 9/11. A time to reflect on what this day represents and how, as a country, we came together, united by that horrible, despicable act. As first responders, we take an oath, pledging to serve and protect our citizens from harm. When we report for work, we never know what the day may bring or what challenges we might face. Patriot Day is a time to renew that pledge of service and to celebrate our country and our freedoms.
Where were you on September 11, 2001?
I was a Lieutenant in the Austin Fire Department, leading the Public Education Section. I was, ironically, at a high-rise building working with the staff on evacuation procedures. When news came of the plane striking the tower, I headed back to headquarters, and when I arrived, we learned that a second plane had struck the other tower, and a third plane hit the Pentagon. It was at that point that we went from watching what we thought was a horrible accident to ramping up for a potential widespread terrorist event.
In what way did 9/11 impact you?
Shortly after the first tower came down there was live video from the scene, and you could hear multiple PASS (Personal Alert Safety System) alarms going off. PASS alarms indicate a firefighter is motionless or in distress. It was at this point that I knew that many firefighters had lost their lives. That was gut wrenching.
Chief Buck began his public safety career as a volunteer firefighter at age 17 and brings over 40 years of experience across firefighting, law enforcement, and emergency medical services. Before becoming Fire Chief for The Woodlands, he served 26 years with the Austin Fire Department, rising to Division Chief and Shift Commander, overseeing 50 stations and more than 300 firefighters.
A Master Firefighter and licensed paramedic, Buck holds numerous certifications from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and has specialized training in water rescue, rope rescue, and hazmat response. He spent 15 years with Texas A&M Task Force 1 Boat Squads, deploying for Hurricane Harvey, the 2018 Hill Country Floods, and Tropical Storm Imelda. Buck is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program and holds degrees in fire science and public affairs. He is married to Ruth Anne Sullivan, a research nurse. They have two daughters: Taylor, a firefighter in Austin, and Darby, a medical resident at UTMB Galveston.

The Groundwater Reduction Plan (GRP) is a regional investment in long-term water supply sustainability—helping ensure there’s enough clean, reliable water for our community today and for generations to come.
Developed by the San Jacinto River Authority (SJRA) the GRP adopts a comprehensive strategy for effective water management, which includes:
• Promoting conservation
• Encouraging the reuse of treated wastewater
• Reducing groundwater pumping
• Introducing treated surface water sourced from Lake Conroe into the overall water supply of Montgomery County.
The operational process involves pumping raw surface water from Lake Conroe, treating it to meet or exceed state drinking water standards, and distributing it to large water users throughout Montgomery County via a 55-mile pipeline network. Residents of The Woodlands receive a balanced blend of 50% surface water and 50% groundwater.
All participating utilities, including Woodlands MUDs, contribute their respective shares to fund the construction, operation, and maintenance of the GRP facilities. Since 2010, this expense has been reflected on your monthly water bill under the Surface Water Conversion (SWC) Fee. It is important to note that the SWC Fee is a pass-through charge; customers are billed for the amount that the SJRA charges The Woodlands MUDs. Currently, the SWC Fee is $2.92 per 1,000 gallons of water used each month. SJRA reviews these rates annually.

Celebrate a greener Halloween with The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department at our fourth annual Pumpkin Smash! Join us Saturday, November 8, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride for an afternoon of pumpkinsmashing fun.
Each year, Americans toss more than a billion pounds of pumpkins into landfills. Instead of sending your Halloween pumpkins to the trash, bring them to our event and give them a second life as compost.
What should you bring?
• Pumpkins of any size or number - carved or whole, even those painted with acrylics
• Make sure to remove all non-compostable items like candles, stickers, yarn, googly eyes and any plastics
• Safety goggles and gloves (bring your own, or use ours)
• Closed-toe shoes for safety
SMASH IT, DON’T TRASH IT!
Pick your favorite way to smash! Send your pumpkin flying with our catapult, break it apart with a bat, or watch it burst from an 80-foot drop. All smashed pumpkins will be turned into nutrient-rich compost for local gardens, keeping food waste out of the landfill.
Curious about composting at home?
Local composting experts will be on site to answer questions and share info about free upcoming classes.
For details, please contact The Woodlands Township Environmental Services at enviro@ thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov or check our event page online.

The Woodlands hosted the 49th Biennial Convention of the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters (TSAFF) from July 14–17, 2025, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott. Representing nearly 20,000 professional firefighters across Texas, TSAFF focuses on public safety resources and legislative support for fire services.
The Woodlands Professional Fire Fighters Association worked with Visit The Woodlands to organize key convention components including site tours, information booth, incentive programs and events like a golf tournament and the President’s Banquet. Over 1,000 hotel rooms were booked, generating more than $650,000 in economic impact. These funds are vital to local development and in maintaining one of the lowest property tax rates in the nation.
To learn how to bring new meetings and conventions to The Woodlands for your organization or business, ask Josie Lewis, Director of Sales at Visit The Woodlands, about the Backyard Sales Campaign. You may reach her at Josie.Lewis@visitthewoodlands.com, or find out more at visitthewoodlands.com
Submitted by Greg Sherlock Hello again from Alden Bridge! This month’s village association board meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 9, at 6:30 p.m. with The Woodlands Chief Operating Officer Chris Nunes as our guest speaker. Next month, join us on Tuesday, October 14, at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are scheduled at the Township, 2801 Technology Forest. All are welcome to attend.
It’s hard to believe the summer is coming to an end, and now we’re switching gears to next month for the highly coveted Spookiest House in the Village Award (best Halloween decorations) at the end of October. When you are cruising the neighborhoods, looking for all those goblins and ghouls, send your favorite address to abvainfo@gmail.com no later than Thursday evening, October 23. We’ll award the spooky winners at the end of next month.
Plans for the Alden Bridge Fall Festival are underway. Circle your calendars for November 1, from 1 to 4 p.m., since you will not want to miss this great event. We will have food, games, a DJ, a rock wall and much, much more. We want to see everyone out with their families to enjoy a great time at Lakeside Park…and the best part, it’s free for all to attend!
We still have some space left for our Fall Festival vendor business tents. If you have a business serving Alden Bridge and would like to advertise, for $250, you will get a tent, table and two chairs. You are welcome to bring business cards and other free giveaways, but no sales can take place from the tent. All vendor fees go directly to our scholarship program fund. Space is “first come, first served,” so send us a quick e-mail today at abvainfo@gmail.com.
Do you receive our monthly email newsletter? If not, please send your email address to abvainfo@gmail.com so you can be in the know along with over 1,000 neighbors with our latest news. We won’t share your email address; it will be used only to distribute news of Alden Bridge. You can also find us on Facebook (Alden Bridge Village Association) and at our website, www.aldenbridge.org.
September is usually one of our hottest months, so we hope you are staying cool. Enjoy this month and next month, with those goblins enjoying Halloween. Be safe out there, Alden Bridge!

The Grogan’s Mill Village Association was proud to sponsor the Hailey Elementary 4th Grade Raft Regatta, held in May. This is a fun annual event at Sawmill Pool. Every year at Hailey the fourth graders build rafts out of milk jugs (saved by families) and duct tape. Two classes work together to develop a theme, build the boat and ultimately paddle it back and forth, relay style. It’s a right of passage as fourth graders leave the school and get ready for
Wilkerson in the fall.
Shopping at The Woodlands Farmers Market is a great way to support local businesses and your community. Proceeds from the market fund scholarships for local students, support local schools (including the Hailey Regatta!) and support the local food bank.
The market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon through September but resumes regular hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in October. Come on out and join your neighbors at the market! It is a great place to sample local products and find unique gifts for the special people in your life.
If you have nominations for the Yard of the Month, please send them in to yotm@ gmva.org. We would love to hear about beautiful yards in our community.
Vendors are listed every Friday in the weekly farmer's market newsletter so you can plan your Saturday shopping. If you are not a subscriber, you can sign up on the Grogan’s Mill Village Assocation website: www.gmva.org.

Submitted by Johanne Stanley Happy fall season! We, on the College Park Village Association board, all wish our community the best of the best for the upcoming fall season and winter months!
The 2025-2026 school season is in full swing with many activities and sports events to entertain us. Please be careful and patient when driving around school zones and follow the speed limits. We wish our students and parents the best!
In College Park our annual Spooktacular event will be on October 25, 2025, at Harper’s Landing Park from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a costume parade and contest! Prizes will be for Cutest, Scariest and Most Creative.
Our beautiful stores in The Woodlands are already stocked with ornaments and gifts to buy for the upcoming holidays! Always be careful when out shopping for your own safety. Lock your car doors and secure packages you leave in your car. In December, plan on home decorations, as we always have our decorating contest around the 18th.
In closing, our College Park Village board meets the third Monday of each Month at 6 p.m. at The Woodlands Township. We welcome anyone to come to voice any complaints to our board so that we can carry concerns on to the Township board members at their next monthly meeting. Have a great holiday season and please watch out for each other!
If your village is not listed, please contact your village association and encourage them to submit information for inclusion.
Pets give us comfort, friendship and unconditional love. Our connection to them can be among the strongest relationships in our lives. Not only do we need to keep pets safe from fires, but did you know that pets can cause fires?
Fact: Pets or wild animals have a part in starting about 750 home fires nationwide per year. These involve cooking equipment, fireplaces and chimneys, space heaters, lamps, bulbs, wiring and candles.
Here are a few safety tips:
• Pets are curious. They may bump into, turn on, or knock over cooking equipment. Keep pets away from stoves and countertops.
• Keep pets away from candles, lamps and space heaters. Consider batteryoperated, flameless candles. They can look and smell like real candles.
• Some pets are chewers. Watch pets to make sure they don’t chew through electrical cords. Have any problems checked by a professional.
• Have working smoke alarms on every level of the home. Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. If the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out. Never go back inside for pets in a fire. Tell firefighters if your pet is trapped.
This information was provided by The National Fire Protection Association, the leading information and knowledge resource on fire, electrical and related hazards.

No. Garage, yard and estate sales are not allowed in order to help maintain neighborhood safety and minimize traffic concerns. These types of sales can unintentionally attract unfamiliar visitors and lead to street parking which blocks emergency access.
To offer a safe and convenient alternative, The Woodlands Residential Development Standards allow for virtual sales through online platforms, provided the guidelines below are followed:
• Do not advertise your address publicly.
• Item pick-up must be by appointment only, one buyer at a time.
• All visitor parking must be in the seller’s driveway.
Presented by The Woodlands Arts Council, the Texas Fine Craft Show features a stunning range of media, including ceramics, decorative fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, wearable art, and wood. As with all events produced by The Woodlands Arts Council, proceeds from the Texas Fine Craft Show support the mission of Making Art Matter in our community through public art, student scholarships, microgrants, and educational outreach programs. More details about the Texas Fine Craft Show are available at thewoodlandsartscouncil.org.
This event is not organized by the Township and is shared as a courtesy through our partnership.
• Signage is not allowed.
Another option is to consider donating unwanted goods. The Township’s Recycle More Guide has numerous options. Download them at thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ recyclemore
