A MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY

DEAR RESIDENTS OF THE WOODLANDS,

At The Woodlands Township, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for every resident. Each summer brings a renewed opportunity to connect, recharge, and take full advantage of the amenities and programs that set our community apart.

Among the highlights of the season are our 14 community pools, thoughtfully placed around The Woodlands. These facilities are more than just places to swim—they are gathering spots for families, friends and neighbors. Whether you’re training for wellness, relaxing in the sun, or simply enjoying time with loved ones, our pools are maintained to the highest standards to ensure safety, cleanliness and enjoyment for all. Please remember, as we enjoy our beautiful, shared pathways, let’s all do our part to keep them safe, friendly and enjoyable for everyone.

Equally important to our identity is the celebration of Independence Day. The Fourth of July has long been a cornerstone of our community culture, and this year’s events will once again reflect the pride and unity that define The Woodlands. From the South County Parade to the Red, Hot & Pool event and our signature Red, Hot & Blue Festival, these moments bring us together in meaningful and memorable ways.

It’s important to acknowledge what makes these amenities and events possible. The sales and use taxes generated through your support of local businesses play a direct role in funding the services, facilities and programs we all enjoy. When you choose to shop, dine or do business locally, you’re helping sustain the very infrastructure and experiences that contribute to our community’s high quality of life.

We are fortunate to have a thriving local economy filled with businesses that reflect the diversity and excellence of our residents. I encourage you to explore everything our local entrepreneurs, retailers and restaurateurs have to offer. Their success is our collective success.

As we enter our annual budget planning season, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors remains focused on thoughtful investment and responsible stewardship. Our goal is clear: to continue delivering best-in-class services while preserving the unique character and livability of our community.

Thank you for your continued support and for playing an active role in what makes The Woodlands such an extraordinary place. Summer is more than a time of year here—it’s a celebration of community, connection and the place we all proudly call home.

Sincerely,

THE WOODLANDS TOWNSHIP BOARD OF DIRECTORS

2025 STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP

Earlier this year, the Board of Directors held a two-day Strategic Planning Workshop to evaluate the Township’s long-term vision and identify priority areas that will influence the 2026 budget and future initiatives.

Following in-depth discussions, the Board established seven key areas of focus:

1. Fiscal Responsibility: Focusing on policies and strategies that support prudent and efficient management of the Township’s financial resources.

2. Public Safety: Continuing to invest in fire and law enforcement services to meet the needs of a growing and active community.

3. Economic Development: Supporting a resilient local economy and fostering a business-friendly environment.

4. Transportation: Improving mobility and planning for future growth.

5. Tourism: Enhancing The Woodlands’ appeal as a regional destination for business, sports and leisure.

6. Resident Engagement: Expanding communication efforts to educate residents about complex topics and decision-making processes.

7. Quality of Life Services: Maintaining excellence in parks, recreation and environmental stewardship.

The Board also prioritized several projects and programs that support the established focus areas. These include:

• A performing arts center with integrated convention space and an attached luxury hotel

• Improved access to public golf amenities

• Expanded cellular coverage throughout the community

• Enhanced parking and mobility in Town Center

• Expansion of the trolley system

• Strengthened public safety initiatives

• Additional activation and programming along The Woodlands Waterway

To support the identified strategic focus areas and projects, the Board established several ad hoc committees to further explore and develop related initiatives, including:

• Ad Hoc Public Safety Committee

• Ad Hoc Transportation Committee

• Ad Hoc South Gosling Tract and Public Golf Committee

“The Strategic Planning Workshop was a valuable opportunity for the Board to reflect on our community’s strengths and set intentional goals for the future. We encourage residents to watch the workshop videos and stay informed as we continue to move forward with transparency and purpose.”

— Chairman Brad Bailey

The site also makes it easier than ever to stay engaged with your community. You can read the latest Board meeting agendas and recaps, submit a concern or request and view event calendars all in one place. If you want to report a downed tree, a park maintenance issue or a pathway obstruction, you can now do so directly online in just a few clicks.

And for those who want to stay up to date, the new site offers convenient sign-up options for email and text notifications, helping you stay informed about everything from emergency alerts to Township news and recreation updates. You choose the topics that matter most to you and the information comes straight to your inbox or phone.

PARKS & RECREATION MONTH

JOIN US THIS JULY IN CELEBRATING OUR AWARD-WINNING DEPARTMENT

July is Parks and Recreation

Month, and communities across the country take time to honor the essential services, spaces and programs that the Parks and Recreation Department provide. The Woodlands Township joins this celebration by recognizing the transformative power of parks and recreation in building stronger, healthier and more connected communities.

At the June 19, 2025 meeting, The Woodlands Township Board of Directors officially proclaimed July as Parks and Recreation Month in The Woodlands. This annual designation reflects the Township’s commitment to delivering high-quality recreational opportunities, preserving open space and supporting community well-being through parks, pathways, events and facilities.

This year, the celebration holds added meaning. The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department has been named a finalist for the 2025 National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. Presented by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association, the award honors agencies that demonstrate outstanding leadership in longrange planning, resource management, program development, environmental stewardship and community engagement. The Woodlands is one of only four agencies nationwide to be named a finalist in the Class II category, which includes communities with populations between 150,001 and 400,000. This recognition reflects the Township’s dedication to exceptional service and continued innovation in the delivery of parks and recreation programs.

The Township operates an extensive system that includes 151 parks, 220 miles of pathways, 14 pools and two recreation centers. These facilities support a wide range of programs for all ages and interests. Whether residents are participating in summer camps,

taking swim lessons, exploring nature, attending community events or joining senior fitness programs, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Signature amenities such as Texas TreeVentures, an aerial adventure course located in the Village of Creekside Park, and the Rob Fleming Aquatic Center provide exciting experiences for families, individuals and visitors. In addition, the Township offers a year-round calendar of activities including races, concerts, educational workshops and seasonal events that create meaningful opportunities for connection and fun.

In recognition of Parks and Recreation Month and the department’s local impact, the Township’s Communications Department produced a special video titled Branches of Impact. The video highlights the people, programs and places that make The Woodlands’ parks and recreation system a model for excellence. Residents are encouraged to watch the video online or scan the QR code featured in Township materials to learn more about how parks shape the community experience.

Beyond recreation, the Parks and Recreation Department plays a critical role in supporting the Township’s overall quality of life. From creating safe, inclusive spaces to promoting sustainability and wellness, the department helps make The Woodlands a desirable place to live, work and visit. Its programs encourage physical activity, environmental awareness and neighborhood engagement, all while fostering a strong sense of place.

As Parks and Recreation Month continues, residents are invited to explore everything the Township has to offer. From neighborhood parks and scenic pathways to special events and year-round programs, The Woodlands is proud to celebrate the many ways parks and recreation bring people together.

CONSERVE WATER THIS SUMMER!

TIPS FOR SAVING WATER

• Fix Leaks Fast:

A dripping faucet can waste thousands of gallons a year.

• Rinse in a Bowl:

Washing fruits and veggies this way saves gallons and the water can feed your plants.

• Run Full Loads: Run full loads and skip the pre-rinse, modern machines can handle it.

DID YOU KNOW?

• A faucet that leaks one drop each second can waste over 3,000 gallons of water in a single year.

• Swapping out an old toilet for a WaterSense model can save the average family up to 13,000 gallons of water each year.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A THRIVING NATIVE GARDEN THIS SUMMER

Do you struggle to find plants for your garden that can keep up with Texas summer weather? Integrating native plants into your landscape is perhaps the easiest way to maintain a healthy, colorful garden throughout the hottest months of the year. Native plants have evolved over many years to thrive in their specific growing regions, and wildlife depends on these plants to survive. Some common native plants in this area that can elevate your home landscape this summer are Red Yuccas, Gulf Muhly Grass and Fragrant Mistflower.

Well-established native plants sustain themselves with less water compared to non-native plants. Curating a landscape that utilizes plants that conserve water sets yourself up for a thriving garden, even during low rainfall conditions. Surrounding the plants with mulch also helps keep the soil moist, the temperature regulated and reduces weeds. Growing native plants in your garden creates a low-maintenance landscape, giving you more time to enjoy your outdoor space all summer long. When picking native plants for your garden, consider the following factors.

Hardiness Zones:

It is essential to choose plants that do well in your specific region. The Woodlands falls into the 9a/9b hardiness zones. The hardiness zone helps determine how well the plant will be able thrive in this area based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature.

Site Specific Conditions:

Assess your landscape before buying plants to ensure you pick the right ones for your space. Evaluate the amount of sunlight your space gets and how well the soil drains excess water to determine what plants can go where in your landscape.

Learn More :

Are you eager to learn more about how to create an outdoor oasis with native plants? Join us for the summer gardening series on July 25 and August 22. Classes are offered online or in-person. These one-hour classes begin at 6:30 p.m. Join us in person at 6 p.m. for mocktails and light bites at the Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard. Registration is required. WHAT’S IN YOUR WATER?

HOW TO READ AND UNDERSTAND

YOUR WATER QUALITY REPORT

At Woodlands Water Agency, we’re committed not just to delivering safe, high-quality drinking water, but also to keeping you informed about what’s in it—and why. One key way we do that is through our annual Water Quality Report.

Released every July, this report offers a detailed look at what’s in your tap water and how it measures up to federal and state safety standards. Inside, you’ll find a list of regulated contaminants, notes on any potential health concerns and explanations of where these substances come from.

So, what exactly is a “contaminant”? Technically, it’s anything in water that isn’t a water molecule. That includes naturally occurring minerals, disinfectants added for your safety, such as chlorine, and in some cases, substances that can pose health risks, such as coliform bacteria. While the word “contaminant” might sound alarming, many are harmless or even beneficial in trace amounts. Others are closely monitored and controlled.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets strict limits on how much of each substance is allowed in public water systems. If a contaminant ever exceeds these limits, it will be noted in your report under the “In Compliance” column.

Good news: In 2025, The Woodlands’ drinking water yet again met or surpassed all EPA and state safety standards.

Your Water Quality Report will be delivered to your mailbox in early July, and it’s always available online at woodlandswater. org/information. We encourage you to take a few minutes to read it. It’s a great way to learn more about the water you use every day.

Have questions about your report or water quality in general? We’re here to help. Contact us at 855-H2O-SAVE or email us at information@woodlandswater.org.

HELPFUL TIPS

FROM NEIGHBORHOOD SERVICES

With hurricane season underway and a new school year on the horizon, now is a great time to plan ahead. The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services team offers a variety of resources and programs to help you stay safe and prepared in the months ahead.

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY

Although it seems school just ended, August will mark an exciting time as students, parents and educators begin a new school year. Amid the hustle of new schedules, school supplies and sports, it is essential to prioritize safety. As children return to school, drivers must prepare for changing traffic patterns and increased road activity in and around school zones. The most common - and preventable - causes of school zone crashes include speeding, driver inattention and failure to yield the right of way.

Whether you are riding the bus, biking, walking or driving, pay close attention and obey all safety rules. With attention and care from everyone, we can ensure a safe and successful school year.

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS

When we think of emergency preparation, hurricanes and weather-related emergencies usually come to mind. However, it's important to prepare for emergencies such as fires, extreme temperatures, tornadoes, hazardous material spills and chemical or terror threats. Advanced planning is essential to protect your family and property.

Hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. Officials are predicting an above average hurricane season for 2025, so be prepared. Make a plan, build a kit and stay informed.

Visit thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ready for more information. If you would like to have Ready Woodlands presented to your group or neighborhood, contact us at neighbor@ thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.

SALUTE TO FIRST RESPONDERS: BLOOD DRIVES

As the summer heat lingers and we celebrate the heroes in our community, August is the perfect time to give back and honor those who give everything to keep us safe. This month, we invite you to join us for a special “Salute to First Responders” Blood Drive — a chance to show your gratitude by helping save lives.

Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Your donation could be the vital help someone needs. Sign up through Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and be part of this important effort! For general questions, please contact Cindy Strawn at 281210-3882 or cstrawn@thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov.

PROJECT 365: PAINT BY NUMBER FOR ENHANCED SAFETY

In an emergency, every second counts—and one simple, often overlooked detail can make all the difference: your house number.

Clearly visible house numbers are essential for first responders, law enforcement and delivery services. One effective way to improve your home’s visibility is by painting your house number on the curb. This ensures it can be seen clearly from the road, even at night or in poor weather.

Make your home easy to identify!

Free curbside paint kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis at the Township. Prefer to DIY? Skip the wait by using your own materials. Complete instructions are available in the video QR code below. Take 15 minutes today to enhance your home's safety and visibility—it’s a small step that could have a big impact.

We know some young people who are busy packing, getting ready to write the next chapter of their young lives at college. We want to congratulate our village scholarship winners. Each received a $1,000 scholarship, with one generously sponsored by Kumon for 2025! Madison Blanchard (TWHS) and Mina Santhanakrishna (CPHS) are the two selected recipients for the four-year university scholarships, and Asher Hallas (TWHS) is the selected recipient for the trade school scholarship as recommended by the scholarship committee members. Both Madison and Mina will be attending UT Austin, and Asher will be attending Lone Star College.

As we have done in previous years, when funds allow, the Alden Bridge Village Association will be sponsoring a $1,500 scholarship for an unnamed recipient at the Montgomery County Women’s Center.

The Cochran’s Crossing Village Association received

28 applications for two scholarships. Congratulations to the scholarship recipients Alan Dang and Chloe Ortega from The Woodlands High School. The $1,000 scholarships are paid directly to the students’ college accounts towards tuition. All applicants are outstanding members of our village, and we wish them every success!

Thank you to everyone who attended the June Pool Party at Bear Branch Park! Once again, the party was a fun evening with toys, floaties, snacks and Kona Ice! Hope to see everyone again next year!

For the May board meeting, the association went on a field trip to Fire Station #2. Thank you to The Woodlands Fire Department for hosting. After an educational tour, the association conducted the regular board meeting onsite. Did you know leaves and pine needles on your roof and in your gutters are a fire hazard?

The board is busy planning the annual free family fall festival to be held October 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Shadowbend Park. Please mark your calendars. There will be carnival games, inflatables, a petting zoo and so much more!

The association is offering two great ways for businesses to advertise to the community. We are selling booth space for the fall festival with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the education fund for teacher grants and student scholarships. Secondly, the village board is selling logo space on a reusable shopping bag that can be used for years. The shopping bags will be handed out to attendees of the fall festival and other events.

If you are interested in a booth or in purchasing advertising space on the reusable shopping bag, please go to cochranscrossing.org and follow us on Facebook for more information.

The association can be found at cochranscrossing.org, on Facebook as Village of Cochran’s Crossing Association, and on Instagram. Send us an email at communicationsforCCVA@gmail.com

Please join us for the July 22 and August 26 Cochran’s Crossing village board meetings at 7 p.m. at The Woodlands Township building, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard. Residents are always welcome!

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR GENERATORS?

Thinking about getting a generator to protect against power outages? Different rules apply, depending on whether the generator is permanent or temporary.

A permit is required for all permanent installations of power generators. There are a few important guidelines to follow.

• The unit should be placed in a spot that minimizes any impact on your neighbors.

• The top of the unit must not be taller than six feet above the natural grade.

• The unit needs to be screened from view so that it's not visible from the street or any neighboring properties.

• You may be allowed to place a generator up to three feet into the rear and side yard easements.

• Steps should be taken to reduce noise to acceptable levels.

If you are considering a permanent power generator, please visit our website for standards and permitting at thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ covenants.

Portable, temporary generators are allowed for temporary use only during power outages or lack of power due to natural disasters. Portable power generators must be stored out of public view when not in use.

For more information, please visit our website or contact the Covenant Administration Department at 281210-3800.
