We hope this message finds you well. As stewards of our community’s natural environment, we are excited to share a progress update on our reforestation efforts.
Last fall, we as a Board, made a significant financial commitment to our community by allocating a record-breaking $1 million toward ongoing reforestation initiatives. We are thrilled to witness the realization of that investment as tree-planting activities have commenced across The Woodlands.
Our dedicated Parks and Recreation staff, in collaboration with contracted partners, have initiated the first phase of our 2024 planting season. By the end of the year, 5,100 trees will find new homes across our reserves, cul-de-sacs and parks system, enriching our landscape and preserving our natural forest.
The planting season is strategically divided into two phases. The spring phase, currently underway, will see the installation of 2,500 trees. Following this, the fall phase, scheduled from October to December, will add another 2,600 trees to our urban forest.
Ensuring the success of newly planted trees is paramount. Our Parks and Recreation staff diligently provide each tree with the care it requires, including approximately 24 to 30 watering sessions within the first year after planting. This commitment aims to optimize their chances of establishment and longterm growth.
We are immensely grateful for the support and dedication of our residents in our collective efforts towards sustainability. Together, we are fostering a greener, healthier and more resilient community for current and future generations.
Thank you for your continued partnership as we work towards a brighter, more sustainable future.
With warm regards,
THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS TYPICALLY MEETS on the third Thursday and the fourth Wednesday of each month at Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Drive, unless posted otherwise. Residents are encouraged to attend.

From its first day, The Cynthia Woods
Mitchell Pavilion has existed to bring The Arts to you. Cynthia Woods Mitchell, wife of George P. Mitchell, founder of The Woodlands, had a dream of bringing a world-class performing arts facility to town after attending a free ballet performance with her family at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas.
The initial vision was a small outdoor venue that would play classical shows and would bring the residents of The Woodlands closer to the performing arts. However, for The Pavilion to be a successful venue, development professionals encouraged the Mitchells to expand their plans from “500 seats on the side of a hill” to a full-blown amphitheater that would provide revenue-generating contemporary shows that could support the performing arts. Plans went from 500 seats to 10,000 and a deal was struck with PACE Concerts (now Live Nation) to bring contemporary shows to The Pavilion and have “rock pay for Bach.” The concerts would help to fund community and school programs to encourage growth of the performing arts.
In April 1990, the dream became a reality when The Pavilion opened with a star-studded gala weekend. The Houston Symphony performed April 27, Frank Sinatra April 28 and
Alabama with Clint Black on April 29. The original facility provided 3,000 reserved seats and room for 7,000 guests on the lawn.
In 1995, The Pavilion’s Board of Directors approved its first expansion to enhance capacity and offer more amenities for guests. The expansion encompassed the addition of 1,900 uncovered reserved seats and increased lawn seating by 1,100, resulting in a total capacity of approximately 13,000. The 6th season opened on April 18, 1995, with a sold-out crowd and Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers on the Main Stage.
In the early morning hours of September 13, 2008, Hurricane Ike made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane on the Gulf Coast and forever changed The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Hurricane Ike caused catastrophic damage to the facility forcing the cancellation of the remaining event season. In November 2008, The Pavilion Board of Directors approved the most ambitious construction project in venue history – the rebuild of nature’s greatest stage. That December, crews started construction and in an unbelievable 160 days reopened as a whole new chapter for The Pavilion with Dave Matthews Band on the Main Stage. The new facility expanded the roof by almost 2.5 times, increasing the number of covered seats to more than 6,000.
With several more state-of-the-art additions in the years since,
including a dynamic, 21,000-square foot event center and first-class club, The Pavilion has separated itself and has been ranked as one of the top venues in the world to experience a live performance.
While attending events at the venue is a staple if you live in The Woodlands, The Pavilion might be most proud of its outreach initiatives. Through training, performance opportunities and numerous outreach programs, The Pavilion brings the arts to more than 50,000 children annually. Additionally, through The Pavilion Partner Scholarship program, more than $2.1 million in scholarships have been awarded to area students pursuing a degree in the fine arts. And through various grant projects, more than $250,000 is funded to arts educators, local school fine arts programs and other arts initiatives, including a partnership with The Woodlands Children’s Museum.
Cynthia Woods Mitchell always referred to her namesake Pavilion as: “A Salute to the Power of a Dream.” The Woodlands community helps support this dream by attending shows, embracing the arts and amplifying The Pavilion’s mission to the community and beyond.
George and Cynthia Mitchell attend the gala opening of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on April 28, 1990. Frank Sinatra performed on stage that evening during this milestone moment in the first 50 years of The Woodlands.
of our beloved community, it’s a fitting time to reflect on the incredible outdoor spaces that have been an integral part of our lives for half a century. From the moment George Mitchell first envisioned The Woodlands in the 1970s, he knew that preserving nature and creating green spaces would be essential to our identity. As we commemorate this milestone, let’s take a moment to appreciate the parks, pathways, trails and open spaces that make The Woodlands truly exceptional.
Let’s start with our parks. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat or a place for family fun, our parks have something for everyone. From the manicured lawns of Town Green Park to the serene beauty of Northshore Park, these green oases provide the perfect backdrop for picnics, playdates and leisurely strolls.
But it’s not just about lounging in the shade—our pathways and trails beckon adventurers of all ages. With more than 200 miles of pathways and trails crisscrossing our community, there’s always a new route to explore. Lace up your sneakers or hop on your bike to discover hidden gems and scenic vistas around every corner.
Of course, no discussion of The Woodlands would be complete without mentioning the crown jewel of our outdoor spaces: the George Mitchell Nature Preserve. Named in honor of our community’s visionary founder, this sprawling wilderness offers a rare glimpse into the natural beauty and biodiversity of our region.
Covering more than 1,700 acres, the preserve is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. From the towering pines of the Piney Woods to the tranquil waters of Spring Creek, every visit promises an opportunity to reconnect with the great outdoors. Whether you’re birdwatching along the trails or simply soaking in the sights and sounds of nature, the preserve offers a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
So, as we celebrate 50 years of community, let’s continue to cherish and protect the outdoor spaces that make The Woodlands a truly special place to call home. AS
High temperatures, scorching heat and prolonged droughts brought on by Texas summers can take a toll on native trees. Prioritizing preventive care and maintenance now is crucial for your trees’ longevity and ensures that they remain healthy and vibrant throughout the hot summer months. Here are the top priorities for your summer tree maintenance regime.
Trees should be watered slowly, deeply and less frequently than turf or landscape plants. Now is the time to check drip irrigation, sprinklers and soaker hoses for damage to ensure they are working properly when you need them. As temperatures begin to rise, give young trees a deep watering at the drip line one to two times a week in the early morning or late evening. Mature trees only need supplemental water if we go for multiple weeks without rain.
Often overlooked or improperly executed, mulching your trees is necessary to retain moisture and regulate soil temperature. Use native mulches made from bark, wood chips, or pine needles - organic forms that break down slowly over time and return nutrients to the soil. Don’t “volcano mulch.” Mulch should never be mounded around the tree’s trunk; spread a 2 to3-inch-layer in a ring near the drip line that funnels water toward the tree.
Texas summers attract various pests and diseases that threaten tree health. Too often symptoms go unnoticed until tree stress is high and it’s losing its leaves in July. Monitor trees regularly for signs of infestation or disease to catch problems early when treatments are more effective.

With the arrival of summer, families eagerly venture outdoors to enjoy the warm weather. However, lurking in the shadows are pesky mosquitoes, ready to turn a sunny day into an itchy ordeal. Here is a comprehensive guide to safeguarding your children from mosquito bites, ensuring their summer remains full of laughter and outdoor adventures.
Dress your little ones in long sleeves, pants and socks when heading outdoors, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active. Dress them in light-colored clothing, as mosquitoes are less attracted to lighter shades.
Invest in insect repellents specifically designed for children, containing EPA-regulated active ingredients like DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon, eucalyptus or IR3535. Always follow product instructions and consult with your pediatrician before applying any repellents to infants under six months. Stroller nets are inexpensive and effective barriers.
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so regularly inspect your backyard for potential breeding sites. Empty kiddie pools, overturn buckets, put away toys and regularly change the water in bird baths. By eliminating standing water, you reduce the likelihood of mosquitoes establishing a breeding ground near your home.
When playing outside, a basic box fan can effectively ward off mosquitoes, preventing them from reaching and biting you and your child. Garlic barrier is another option to confuse a mosquito’s senses while not harming our pollinator pals. Scan the mosquito QR code on the photos to the left to learn more.

There is no better way to beat the heat than to dive into the pool and enjoy the brand new splash pad which will be free for residents all day. The real fun begins at sunset as the Pool Party will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be pool floats, games, snacks, fire trucks, music and free Kona Ice!
Congratulations to all 2024 Graduates! Thanks to the overwhelming success of our 2023 Fall Festival, the Cochran’s Crossing Village Association donated $3,000 to four local schools and awarded five $1,000 scholarships to Cochran’s Crossing high school seniors. All the proceeds from our Fall Festival support our student scholarships and teacher grants.
The 2024 Fall Festival will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Shadowbend Park. Tables are limited, so reserve yours before they sell out. Our meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the The Woodlands Township offices; the public is always welcome to attend.
Submitted by Johanne Stanley Greetings, residents, from the board of the College Park Village Association! We hope all our residents are planning fun times with their families, whether it’s a trip to a fun destination or enjoying a
staycation at home! Everyone loves to play in pools and water features, but we must never forget about safety first!
Our Harper’s Landing Park community pool will open with lifeguards, as always, on May 18, 2024. It’s also our annual College Park Poolooza to celebrate the beginning of summer! Come and join College Park residents, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
Our residents are always so respectful of each other by keeping our yards maintained every week. Another way of showing respect to each other is by parking vehicles in your driveway or your closed garage. Ambulances, fire trucks, police cars, school buses, and garbage trucks should NEVER be blocked from passing by vehicles parked on the street.
In closing, please check our College Park website and Facebook page for upcoming event details. Our monthly board meeting is the third Monday of each month at The Woodlands Township building at 6 p.m. Any resident concerns are welcomed at our meeting!
Everyone, take care and drive carefully! Leave earlier than needed to get where you’re going because it seems traffic has doubled!

The Panther Creek board is excited for summer and a few upcoming events. Our Annual
Flag Day Community Picnic will be held June 15, 2024, at Ridgewood Park. This free event is open to all residents of Panther Creek and will feature free hot dogs and hamburgers prepared by our masters of the grill, free Kona Ice, free access to the pool and much more including a patriotic flag display. Meet your neighbors and have an old-fashioned good time.
We have seen several residents mention on social media they miss the Astros game outing that was held before the pandemic. Interested? The board is considering reviving the event, but we need your help. If your family is interested in the event, reach out to a board member, or email us at panthercreekvillageassociation@gmail.com. If we have enough participation, we can get that scheduled!
Without you, there is no community. Come to our monthly meetings on the second Thursday of each month at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. at 6 p.m. and learn about your community and the many ways you can contribute your talents and ideas.
The Panther Creek Village Association is a civic service and community organization. Learn more about us at PantherCreekVillage. org or on Facebook at Facebook.com/ PantherCreekVillage.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR by planting native species and landscape according to our Covenants and guidelines.
Now that the days are longer and the sun is shining more, you may be thinking about enhancing your yard and home landscaping. Did you know that there is a difference between native and invasive species when it comes to plants and trees?
Native species are found in our local ecosystem through natural distribution. Invasive species are plants and trees that have been introduced from other sources and locations. Invasive species disrupt the ecosystem and inhibit the ability for native species to grow and thrive.
The Township maintains a list of native trees and shrubs for residents to consider in their yard. Be a good neighbor and plant native species. For assistance, please contact Covenant Administration at 281-210-3800.
