EXCITING CHANGES HAPPENING HERE AT THE UPPER CLUTHA MESSENGER

New

full colour printing

Our printing partner has recently upgraded to a new colour printing press, which means from issue 2 July 2025 we can now bring you The Messenger in full colour! We have certainly come a long way since starting as a one-page, weekly community diary in 1978.

Are you an advertiser? Would you like to be?

To complement the new printer and improve overall visual flow, we’re making a slight adjustment to the paper size. Now, we can o er all black and white, and colour adverts in categories, and have amalgamated some of our ad sizing options. There will be some slight changes to advert sizes and prices. There has been no change to the cost of our ‘world famous in Wanaka’ line ads.

Deadline changes

Line ads - From 30 June the new deadline for all line ad bookings will be 11.59pm (midnight) on Mondays.

Display ads - From 27 June, the deadline for all display ads that are to be designed by us, will be 12.00pm on Fridays. The deadline for print ready ads remains unchanged, but will have to be firm at 12.00pm on Mondays.

Community spaces - From 26 June, The Community Diary deadline will be moved to 12.00pm Fridays. The Community News and Front Page Story bookings and content deadline will be 12.00pm on the Thursday before publication.

What this means for you

We understand that changes can raise questions, and we want you to know that we’re here to support you through the transition. If the size of your ad is changing, we can o er a service to assist with resizing if needed (free of course).

We value your continued support, partnership, and readership. This next chapter is an exciting one, and we’re thrilled and privileged to have you along for the journey. If you have any questions, or if you’d like to discuss your upcoming campaigns, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We’re here to help!

MY COMMUNITY NEWS

Hawea’s Heartbeat is Connection

In Hawea, community is more than where we live - it’s how we show up for one another and make this place so special. But staying connected isn’t always easy in the rhythm of daily life.

That’s why the Hawea Community Association (HCA) is changing things up. This time, instead of a formal public meeting, they’re inviting locals to Community Connections - a relaxed, people- rst gathering designed to spark conversation, curiosity, and connection.

There’ll be no lengthy presentations. Just the chance to meet others, nd out what’s happening locally via stalls representing local groups and initiatives, and explore how you might get involved - all over a free breakfast, with kids' entertainment to keep the little ones happy.

It’s a small but meaningful way to bring people together, reminding us that strong communities grow not through meetings, but through shared moments, getting involved in the things that matter to us and mutual care.

Whether you're a long-time local or newly arrived, everyone’s welcome. Come for the breakfast - stay for the connection.

Pasi ka Photographer in Wānaka to Share Visual Stories

WHAT: Nick Netzler shares his WAI Wānaka photographic experience WHEN: Thursday, 19 June, 6.30 - 7.45pm WHERE: Wānaka Community Hub, Sidey Auditorium INFO: Email getinvolved@waiwanaka.nz to register/reserve

Wellington visual artist Nick Netzler, travelled to Wānaka earlier this year, as part of Creative NZ’s Paci c Arts Nature Residencies. His rst time in Wānaka, he spent time with WAI Wānaka, learning more about the work they do and documenting the team in action.

“This was a whole new experience for me. As someone from urban Wellington, spending time with WAI Wānaka and their community really opened my eyes. The way we came together and valued the environment felt very natural for me from a Pasi ka worldview,” says Nick. “I was in awe of the beautiful Wānaka landscape and the community’s e orts to protect it. As a photographer, it was a big learning curve seeing how hands-on and practical the work is to keep the waterways healthy and owing.”

Nick returns to Wānaka to share his experience and a selection of photos from his residency with the community. Join us this Thursday, 19 June, from 6.30pm at the Wānaka Community Hub. Light refreshments served on arrival.

It is a free event, but registration is necessary. Please register via the email address getinvolved@waiwanaka.nz or for more information head to www.waiwanaka.nz
