Major fundraiser day of Cancer Society is back on Friday, 30 August 2024.

It is the 34th year of street appeal, where you will find volunteers stationed in different parts of town selling daffodils. Our volunteers can be found at Paper Plus, Medical Centre, Mitre 10, New World Wanaka and New World Three Parks between 9.30am - 2.30pm.

With your support, every dollar raised for Daffodil Day will go towards cancer care for patients and their whānau, education and awareness programmes, and life-saving cancer research.

Local dippers of Wanaka; Lyn Milne, Pip Wilson and Nicci Huston started the month by becoming faces of Cancer Society National Commercial by braving the icy

water of Lake Hawea, for the ‘It Could Be Me’ campaign while local day care centres, primary and high schools have also had the opportunity to register themselves to take part in this year’s campaign. Cancer impacts so many of us in New Zealand, with a heart-breaking 74 people diagnosed each day. The Cancer Society is here to help and support people with cancer and their whānau.

Cat Rescue Wanaka’s Mew-sic Bingo is a Fun Night Out!

Cat Rescue Wanaka had such a successful and fun time at their Music Bingo Fundraiser last year, they are doing it again this year. Music Bingo is like regular Bingo, but instead of numbers being called out, the host spins an eclectic mix of songs which players need to recognise and mark o on their Bingo cards. Last year’s even was a sell-out, so The CReW are recommending people grab their friends and get in quick for tickets. The RSA is looking for a volunteer Support Advisor to engage with service and ex-service people in need in the Wanaka area.

Our ideal advisor could have a military background, will be computer literate, selfmotivated, compassionate, and be able to relate well to young and old veterans and their whanau with discretion.

Training and mentoring will be provided by the District Support Manager based in Dunedin and they will join a network of volunteers across the Otago Southland district.
