With passion and sensitivity, The Kugels play traditional Klezmer music and original works by their in-house Arts Foundation Laureate composer/accordionist Ross Harris.

THE PERFORMERS Ross Harris, accordion, former NZSO French horn player and lecturer at Victoria University, is one of our leading NZ composers.

Robin Perks, violin, has played in a number of orchestras in Europe in his 20s, and was a member of

Debbie Rawson, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and Xaphoon is a former NZSO player, probably best known as the leader of the ensemble Saxcess.

Nick Tipping, bass, wears many hats - from a PhD and lecturer in Jazz to playing with national and international stars and as a presenter on RNZ concert programme.

Anna Gawn, soprano, classically trained. Her dramatic vocals and brilliant rapport with audiences, create a vibrant layer of expression and colour to the ensemble.

Rockgas Wanaka is a locally owned and operated family business based in Wanaka. We have an exciting opportunity available for a new member to join and help grow our business.

This role’s key priority is to safely and efficiently deliver LPG cylinders to our commercial and residential customers whilst building strong and lasting relationships. Other daily activities include Filling LPG Cylinders, vehicle safety checks, loading product onto the truck, organising delivery runs and, ensuring the highest level of health and safety is maintained for you, the wider team and our customers.

To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and attributes: • A Class 2 HT licence with a solid driving history and ideally Dangerous Goods Endorsement (assistance can be given to obtain DG) • Strong customer service skills with the ability to use handheld tablets.

• Proven ability to self-manage your workload, problem solve and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

• An understanding and commitment to Health, Safety and Compliance to a high level • A good level of fitness • Forklift licence

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Quiz Night to Help Luge Trailblazer Race to the Top Gear up for an evening of fun, trivia and community spirit at Hunter’s Fundraiser Quiz Night, Thursday, 22 February at Ground Up Brewing. Test your knowledge, win prizes, and help talented young athlete Hunter Burke continue his race to the top of the world luge rankings.

Fresh off his astounding 27th place finish at the prestigious 2024 Luge Junior World Championships in Norway, Hunter will be at the quiz to personally thank the community who helped him get there.

While we enjoyed summer sun, Hunter underwent rigorous training sessions, racing in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. His achievement is incredible, as he competes against northern hemisphere athletes with year-round winter training.

Alzheimer’s Disease Therapy: Is There a New Hope?

The Wanaka Branch of the Royal Society brings leading thinkers, highly regarded in their field of knowledge and expertise, to talk about their work. Each year, ten eminent national speakers are included in the programme.

Beta-amyloid plaque accumulates in the brain as people age, for people with Alzheimer’s Disease, it accumulates much faster. Another feature of Alzheimer’s is the appearance of tangles of tau proteins. In effect, Alzheimer’s is a protein-aggregation disease. It causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die, with a gradual decline in memory, thinking, behaviour and social skills. Research globally focuses on three issues: prevention or delay (“use it or lose it”), early detection and effective treatments. Professor Cliff Abraham, University of Otago, and his research team are working on a promising new blood test for early detection and the use of gene therapy to introduce a therapeutic neuroprotective protein into the brain.

Fabricate Sewing Room Looking For Helpers

Fabricate is the sewing room at the Wānaka Community Workshop in Gordon Road.

Established in 2022 the space now boasts an array of sewing machines, a large layout table and an incredible fabric library.

Volunteer session leader Estelle Lawry has been working with her team on some exciting learn to sew projects that are perfect for people looking to start or continue their sewing adventure.

“We have simple projects for beginners, come and make a sunhat, cushion, doorstop or help with our eel puppet project. We also need people who have sewn before who can share their skills or support others.”

The Fabricate volunteer session is on Tuesday mornings from 9.00am – 12.00pm, there is also a CoSew group on Saturday mornings. The space is also available for anyone wanting to teach fabric craft.

The well attended Wo(Man)Shed Volunteer sessions are weekly on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.00am – 12.00pm.
