Wānaka Backyard Trapping are launching the 2024 Nature Talks series this week! Guest speakers will share their passion for New Zealand’s natural environment and native species.
On 3 July, Greg Lind will talk about his 35 year journey working in conservation for DOC and now as co-chair of the Southern Lakes Sanctuary Trust.

U3A (University of the Third Age) was started in France, with the aim of presenting a programme of universitybased, continuing education for older adults. It has since evolved world-wide into a community-based system of independent self-run groups, with many established throughout New Zealand. Wānaka is in the fortunate position of having two such groups, each operating slightly di erently.
The Upper Clutha U3A meets on Friday mornings, for blocks of lectures on specialised topics, held in March, May, July and October. So far this year, the series have been on “Talking Rubbish” and “How Fellowships Bene t Our Artists”, while the July series is about “Rural Champions: Farming Today, For
Tomorrow”. Four mental health specialists will speak in October.
The Mt Aspiring U3A meets monthly on the last Thursday of the month, to hear from local speakers. Study groups are also run on speci c topics, led by one of their own members, covering such topics as whisky, art, science, the history of medicine, and current a airs.
The Upper Clutha U3A has an annual fee of $50, while the Mt Aspiring U3A’s is $30. Both o er very good value for the number and quality of the presentations available to the members. Some people belong to and enjoy the two groups.
