At one stage or another everybody needs a helping hand, right? We all have those moments at least once in our lifetime, where things just get a little, or at times very, tough. That’s what Louise Carney considered when starting up the Food For Love initiative. There seemed to be a lot of people that were going through all sorts of hardships and so many times she heard, “I wish I could help them, I’m just not sure how”. Help can sometimes be a scary word. Modern society has created a world in which to help often means donating either a lot of time or a lot of money. It doesn’t have to. Food For Love provides home cooked meals and sometimes baking to those individuals and families who need a wee helping hand in times of hardship. We have a group of incredible volunteers who donate their time and ingredients and prepare delicious, wholesome meals. These meals are then delivered to the nominated family. Individuals or families are nominated privately by contacting our Facebook page. Cooks and families can often be anonymous. Louise Carney and Rebecca Sarginson have been coordinating Food For Love for over a year now and have had the privilege of seeing the benefits for both the nominees and the cooks. When you are going through difficult times, it can feel very

isolating. Having someone turn up with dinner not only provides practical help but also helps the family realise they are not alone and that there are people who care very much. For our cooks and bakers the knowledge they have helped someone in need is a wonderful feeling. Food For Love is always looking for new nominations for people to help and if you’d like to volunteer for us we’d love to hear from you too. Please message either Louise Carney or Rebecca Sarginson on our Facebook page, Food For Love.
