Wānaka Pride Week 2025 - Get Involved

This year, OUT&about Wānaka hosts the third annual Wānaka Pride Week running 3 - 7 September. Last year’s Pride Week was a huge success, and we're to continue celebrating diversity in our community.

2025 Pride Week features a Queer Film Fest, Queers and Beers Social, Drag Bingo, and Pride Ride, with a smattering of other events.

The Pride Street Party will take place on Saturday, 6 September, running from 2.00pm - 6.00pm at the Lake Wānaka Centre. This family-friendly event will host DJ’s and live music, a craft and info market, comedy, poetry, activities, and more! Plus, Fox and Badger will be providing some of their epic eats, a sausage sizzle and bake

sale for hungry tums. When day turns to night, the Lake Wānaka Centre will transform into Pride After Dark, featuring drag, burlesque, DJ’s, and dancers.

OUT&about Wānaka is a charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers. To help us promote inclusivity and create safe community spaces, please consider sponsoring or volunteering for Pride Week. All funds raised will support youth inclusion projects, inclusivity training and local support groups. Hawea Playgroup Family Pie Fundraiser

Hawea Playgroup is a not-for-pro t community organisation that o ers a wonderful, vibrant and supportive space for young families. You can nd an extensive selection of fun resources to share with your children during playgroup hours. They have a huge sandpit, ride-ons, swings, slides and trees for climbing, as well as a cosy library for stories, and lots of indoor toys and activities. Hawea Playgroup is led by Co-ordinator Bridget, who welcomes families and provides support to children and parents alike. Bridget is backed by a strong parent-based committee, which consists of a multi-talented group of dedicated Mums, who o er their time voluntarily to support this wonderful community resource.

This fundraiser will go towards general daily operational costs that keep this loved playgroup running. Any contributions are much appreciated.

This month I want to talk about the importance of having an escape plan should your house ever catch fire. Don’t just stick your head in the sand and say it won’t happen to you. House fires do happen and fire spreads quickly, scarily quickly.

You will have 1 to 2 minutes from the sounding of a smoke alarm to when your life is seriously threatened by ﬁre or smoke. In a house ﬁre

smoke builds up quickly, reducing visibility and it can be disorientating, even to trained firefighters. Work out your escape plan and practice. Practice it during the day and at night with the lights off. That way in the event of a fire, rather than panic, you will know instinctively what to do. Have two escape routes for every room and make sure you leave the keys in any deadlocks so you can get out.
