The meeting is an opportunity to hear what your committee has achieved in 2023 and what is planned for 2024. Your suggestions are welcome too. The election of the committee for 2024 is held at the meeting and this is your opportunity to be a member of the committee which is a willing and committed team making Albert Town an even better place to live.

We actively engage with QLDC and the local Police on your behalf and organised a Safer Streets meeting where locals expressed concerns and offered solutions to Upper Clutha Community Board members. We surveyed local teenagers to hear what they would like to see improved in Albert Town. A project for next year may be a bus shelter for Mt Aspiring College students on Alison Avenue. The Brain Health Research Centre (BHRC) Tours of Central Otago among other initiatives.

The library is transformed into a brain to explore. Families can participate in a range of activities, from simulating brain disorders to learning how to stay ‘Positively Wired’. The highlight of the event, a giant inflatable brain, offers an immersive walk-through experience for all ages.

Explore Gardens + Galleries and Support Plunket Held over three days, across more than 15 art galleries and 10 stunning private gardens, Gardens + Galleries has multiple events to choose from, all in support of Wakatipu Plunket. You won’t want to miss this inaugural fundraising event.

Gardens + Galleries offers a beautiful cross-section of gardens, from small and compact to large parklike gardens. The artists’ trails in the Wakatipu Basin representing a diverse group of local painters and sculptors, including the spectacular Twilight Opera in Springpointer Garden.

Plunket’s Community Services are not Government funded, so are reliant on grants and fundraising events like this. The funding is used to contribute to the overheads of keeping our Plunket facilities open and maintaining our community services. Our community services include playgroups, support

groups, injury prevention (including car seat installation and advice that covers Queenstown, Upper Clutha, Cromwell, Alexandra, and Central Otago regions) and a safe space for whānau to come for support, education and companionship with other families with children of a similar age. Our rooms Co-ordinator is a friendly face welcoming visitors to our centre and provides a listening ear and support where needed. Kirimoko Catchment Group Inspires Collective Action

The Kirimoko Catchment Group – an urban initative supported by WAI Wānaka, Bike Wānaka, Southern Ventures and Wānaka Backyard Trapping, is making waves in our community for their ongoing efforts to restore the Kirimoko neighbourhood.

Established in 2022, the group’s mission is to enhance local biodiversity and recreational access, focusing on monthly maintenace sessions at the Kirimoko bike trails.

“We come once a month, a few folks from the community, to pull weeds and give the place a good tidy up. It’s been a great collaboration.” says dedicated member Ewan Mackie of Bike Wānaka.

Jaylene from WAI Wānaka adds, “The Kirimoko Catchment Group is a great example of the positive work being carried out by neighbourhood groups in our urban spaces, with an increasing number of volunteers getting involved in caring for the environment here in the Upper Clutha. The group’s efforts to restore their neighbourhood will undoubtedly impact our precious waterways - and for the better.”

The Kirimoko Catchment Group’s next maintenance session is set for Friday, 19 January from 5.00 - 7.00pm at the Kirimoko bike trails. “All are welcome to join in on the fun, regardless of experience,” says Jaylene.
