While we all have activities, tasks and commitments to undertake in our everyday lives whether to do with work, study, family, friends, partners or our health and well-being, which requires the use of your masculine energy of DO-ing. Rediscovering Joy

Joy – wowsers!! What a journey I have had rediscovering joy this past 9.5 weeks since I had a misstep while playing tennis soccer with my puppies! My feet stopped but my body kept going, doing this kind of wylde cartwheel freefall as my mind shouted ‘oh nooo .. you can’t do this now … you’re flying down South in 2 days!’. And then: Ouch!! big time: dislocated elbow and fractured right wrist [which wasn’t discovered until 2 weeks after my initial diagnosis and plaster caste].

This past couple of months+ has been a scary, vulnerable process of allowing myself permission to reach out for help, support, guidance, companionship and healing from folk. I love to give, find it so easy to do, yet reaching out for myself was a whole other matter. It pushed me into, then immersed me beyond, my innermost fears, doubts and limiting beliefs about worthiness, receiving and being hurt.I’ve plummeted to the depths of fear, despair and feelings of overwhelming aloneness as I came to grips with being unable to fend for myself. My inability to do very basic daily living requirements like: showering, dressing, eating and - shock horror for independent me - being unable to drive!! Having to ask for, and rely on others, goodwill to be taken to hospital and Dr appointments, get food or to just get out of the house was a challenge as I’m fiercely independent! I now realise how much so and that I was also fearful of putting others out, of imposing on them.

www.thebarefootmedium.com.au Consequently, I’ve been humbled by those who’ve stepped up &helped me. Some I’m close friends with, others I barely knew outside our meditation circle or via social media.

I felt despair &betrayal to the core of my BEing when close family did very little to help make things easier. And then great heartfilling joy when 2 of my granddaughters [one aged 19 &the other 10] said ‘I’ll look after you Nanna, I can do that’. My heart swells as I recall Miss 10 braiding my wylde hair so ‘it doesn’t get in your face Nanna’ or showing me how she can cook scrambled eggs for our dinner.

Once I got out of my own way, joy started showing up in myriad ways.

Via drives with my longtime friend and my 19yr old granddaughter out to the beach. We laughed in delight watching pelicans glide into the beach as we walked, talked and cried over deep heart sharings – once I softened and realised that I didn’t have to pretend, or be strong, or tough it out, even in front of Miss 19. Joy was in the liberation of those tears shed – in our shared laughter and through our fears, doubts and pain.

Did you know that JOY comes in random ways?? I’ve discovered its power through seemingly simple things like friends reaching out to say ‘hi’ via their messages, text, phone calls! Or via wonderful invites to come and stay a wee while. Joy is expressed and felt in simple moments: laughing over a cuppa, musing about our respective passions, and feeling the company, the living presence, of another person who wanted to spend time with me. Joy is also in watching the stars, smelling the sea breezes as the salt water kisses your toes or exploring your own back or front yard and its hidden treasures.

Getting my 2 adorable, loving, cheeky, boisterous and infinitely huggable Rottie Puppies home [after 2 months being cared for by some amazing

www.thebarefootmedium.com.au folk], listening to and watching them playing noisily gifted a deep deep joyrin me. I find myself giggling over thei antics and my heart is filled to overflowing with wonder and joy when they attempt to sit on my lap or look at me with total love in their eyes.

Right now joy is the liberation I experienced when the 6th plaster caste was removed and I could gaze in wonder at my arm. Do you know how amazing creation is!! Just pondering my hand and arm moved me to tears of joy as I wriggled fingers, touched my wrist and caressed my elbow. Then there’s this experiential joy, this sense of liberation in my soul and heart, in knowing that in just 8 days I'll be driving again.

Joy is a gift to oneself and each other when it’s selflessly given, received and experienced. It becomes sacred and holy because it touches the core of your being and the vibes you feel are beyond words. Joy is there for each of us when we give ourselves permission to receive it whenever and however it is gifted to us.

Joy is living consciously in the presence of every moment.

The Joy in Carnival!

Carnival has become a world-wide phenomenon for people from all walks of life: rich, poor, religious, nonreligious, old, and young. No one is excluded from taking part in these festive celebrations and all are encouraged to kick-back, relax and enjoy the wild ride! For those of you that may not know the background of Carnival, it originated as a celebration for Catholics, who wanted to enjoy themselves before the start of Lent (where they fast or give up certain luxuries to remind themselves of the sacrifices made by Jesus). Officially, carnival runs from Friday night to noon on Ash Wednesday, BUT some people like to start the festivities a bit earlier than Friday. Here is how carnival is celebrated in 4 different countries!

1. BRAZIL Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is registered in the Guinness Book of World Record as the biggest carnival in the world. The first celebrations date back to 1723 when the Portuguese immigrated to Brazil with celebrations enjoyed by the working people wearing flashy costumes, colorful masks and

mocking the clothes and mannerisms of the rich. Music and Samba is a HUGE part of carnival in Rio which really invites people to put their differences aside, brings people together and experiencing joy through celebration. There’s no “right” way to celebrate Carnival, which is what makes this event so special.

2. COLOMBIA In the northern part of Colombia, in a city named Barranquilla one of the largest carnivals in South America is celebrated! With folkloric dancers and singers taking to the streets wearing colorful costumes, walking and alongside unique floats to the beat of music with America, African Congo and Spanish influences. The main aspect of Carnival in Colombia is “la burla,” which is making fun of something or someone. If you go you probably won’t be directly picked on, because they would rather show their sense of humor through costume by dressing up in comical ways to poke fun at Colombian drug lords or pop culture artists and singers.

www.thebarefootmedium.com.au 5. SPAIN Funeral for a fish? Yup, that’s exactly what happens in Spain to mark the end of carnival on Ash Wednesday. The Burial of the Sardine (Entierro de la Sardina in Spanish) involves a procession of mourners dressed in black parading a model sardine in a coffin around the streets. Later, it’s set afire, symbolizing rebirth and regeneration.

3. ECUADOR If you celebrate carnival in Ecuador, watch your back for the “diablitos” (little devils), who love to play with water. The practice of throwing water balloons filled with water or flour, or dumping water on innocent bystanders is common by mischievous children and teenagers. Even though school authorities and the government forbid such “games,” it is still widely practiced throughout the country.

4. BOLIVIA Tucked away in the central part of Bolivia, the city of Oruro is the place to be for carnival. Over 50 groups gather to dance, sing and play music from early in the morning till late at night. Actually, to be exact, they celebrate 18 hours a day during the 4 days of carnival! The Bolivians dress up as demons, devils, angels, Incas and Spanish conquerors.

It’s even been recognized by UNESCO as a “Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Each of these countries is given the power to showcase and represent their own unique traditions and express their joy during Carnival celebrations. So, when February rolls around next year, expect to find happiness, joy and bliss no matter where you are in the world during Carnival!!!

Joys of Being an Empath BYÂ JULIE MCNEAL

Being an Empath in a nutshell means you are sensitive to energy, it means you can feel it.

Do you feel drained or sleepy around some people?

Do you feel anxious and jittery around others?

Are you what others consider to be oversensitive and emotional?

Do you get upset easily or depressed easily with no obvious trigger or reason?

Do you often sense the emotions of your close friends and family before they share them with you?

Do you become agitated or nervous in crowds?

Have you ever had to leave a shopping trolley full of groceries in the middle of the grocery store being overwhelmed with anxiety?

If this sounds like you then its quite possible you are an Empath and youÂ

have a heightened sensitivity to energy in your environment and that of the people around you.

Everything I just listed is what I experience or have experienced in my every day life, I've spent many years trying to figure out what was wrong with me, and yes it can feel like a double edged sword if you aren't able to understand the difference in your energy as opposed to that of someone or something else.

Learning what triggers you, what process works for you to earth yourself or what to do with these emotions that overwhelm you at times is really important.

However, there is no quick fix to learn to manage all of this, it is trial and error and you must be gentle with yourself.

It is perfectly normal to become frustrated with yourself when you just want to feel "normal" but understanding there is no such thing as normal and that you are perfect just as you are without judging yourself is crucial in learning to cope and gain some control over your experiences, your reactions and your power.

Yes, it can feel lonely and isolating when others around you seem to be struggling to relate to you in what seems to be your up and down mood swings and sensitivity, but it's important to be open and honest with your loved ones about how you're feeling and not be ashamed, those who are meant to be close to you in your life will learn to adapt and accept you as you are and you shouldn't expect anything less.

In truth, It's not your responsibility to make others understand, but you also need to remind yourself that they are simply engaging in your energy for their own learning experience as moths are attracted to a naked

flame, you will find other humans seeking to grow in their experience here on earth will be attracted to you and your beautiful heart too for wisdom, comfort, healing and love.

So you see it's important you learn to see the beauty in being such a sensitive and loving being.

Ultimately you came here to learn and teach others about love, and being able to feel others emotions and in some instances physical aches and pains assists you in relating to those you agree to assist upon their journey.

It is indeed a beautiful thing to feel things as deeply as us Empaths do, for even our more positive emotions are heightened, we feel the very depth of true happiness and we are joyful as a result, and the same goes for love, when we love it is deep and from the soul and the most heavenly joy comes from such a state of being.

Indeed, being such a sensitive being has its challenges but ultimately being an Empath is a great honour for you are serving the Universe in your human suit in spiritual awareness, truth and absolute unconditional love for it's the only way you know.

You exist in love, to teach love, to learn love, to be love because you are love!
