THE STAR: royals

Christ the King had their 2020-21 season wiped out due to COVID, but they are primed to return to the court in style this season. The Royals - albeit extremely young - will be one of the most talented teams in the northeast. Juniors Jahlil Bethea (6-foot-2) and Brandon Williams (6-foot-7) are certified high-major recruits, and they’ll likely be tasked with the “star” responsibilities. Bethea (247 No. 109) had a standout spring and summer for the New Jersey Legacy of the Nike EYBL 16U, while Williams holds high major offers from USC, Missouri, Kansas State, Illinois, LSU, and TC.

The X-factor on this team might be Dwayne Pierce. The 6-foot-4 sophomore is a tough, skilled combo guard with plus athleticism, and he has proven the ability to get hot from the perimeter. 6-foot-11 junior Sauce Shillingford will man the middle for Arbitello and company, and the big man recently picked up an offer from local college Manhattan. The Royals also feature freshman Kiyan Anthony - the 14-year old son of Carmelo Anthony who will undoubtedly see some run in the rotation. Head coach Joe Arbitello holds a 233-63 win/loss record through 10 seasons, including six championships a piece in the NYC and Catholic State leagues.
