THE STAR:

Jaylen Drane is one of toughest guards out of the state of Chicago. Going into his senior season, he looks to keep this reputation and help lead the Wolverines to a deep run in March. Drane (247 Comp. 290) is a 6-foot-2 point guard with crafty ball skills, and he plays just as tough and physical as you’d expect from a Chicago-bred point guard. Drane should have a terrific senior season, and will undoubtedly be operating as one of the best guards in the Chicago Public League. If Drane limits his turnovers and consistently makes plays for his teammates, head coach Robert Smith should do a lot of winning in 2021-22.

A pair of twins out of the 2023 class will see a major jump in their minutes this year for Simeon. Miles and Wesley Rubin are both 6-foot-7 forwards, and both will play big roles for Smith and company. Products of the Nike EYBL’s Chicago MeanStreets program, the Rubins proved they were nationally relevant after a strong 16U season on the circuit. 2023 guard Jalen Griffith will also see a boost in his minutes this season, and he’ll be an important cog alongside Drane. The rest of the rotation still needs to sort itself out, but Smith should have plenty of talent to compete with the best in Illinois.
