Team Synopsis: saints

Head coach Carl Arrigale comes into his 24th season with a talented squad - albeit very young. The 2021-22 version of the Saints will feature a guard-heavy rotation - one that will play fast and shoot a lot of threes. The Saints squad will come into the year hungrier than ever after a COVID-riddled 2020-21, and they have their sights set on Arrigale’s 12th Philadelphia Catholic League championship.

The Saints are fairly well-balanced across the board, so you could go a couple different directions with their “star” selection. 6-foot-1 senior guard Masud Stewart returns, and he’ll have a big role in Arrigale’s system. Stewart is a relentless driver of the basketball and will put pressure on opposing defenses with his jump shot. Stewart holds several mid-major offers, and he’ll look to increase his stock during the 2021-22 season. Junior forward Sultan Adawale transferred to the program during the offseason, and the 6-foot-8 forward provides a physically-imposing presence for the Saints. Formerly of St. Louis Christian, Adawale has the athleticism required to be a dangerous two-way post. Adawale plays above-the-rim on both ends of the floor, blocking shots defensively and slamming down dunks on the offensive end. He will be a stalwart in the post for this Saints team, and will likely make waves on the national recruiting scene.

THE STAR:

SUPPORTING CAST:

The Saints’ supporting cast has a chance to be special. 2024 point guard Rob Wright III is incredibly fast with the ball in his hands, and his playing-style should fit perfectly under Arrigale. Wright spent the spring and summer impressing for Team Final 15U, as did 6-foot-10 sophomore Luke Bevilacqua. Both Wright and Bevilacqua will play significant minutes in Arrigale’s rotation, and Bevilacqua should be a nice complement alongside Awawale.

2024 Amir Williams, a 6-foot-6 forward, has all the physical tools required to be an elite defender. After a strong grassroots season with Team Final alongside Wright and Bevilacqua, Williams may very well find his way into the star conversation for this team by season’s end. 5-foot-9 sophomore Khaafiq Myers will look to earn minutes for Arrigale, as will juniors Shawn Battle and Bruce Smith. 175 H/T @247
