BRONCOS

THE STAR:

Junior guard Dae Dae Ames and junior forward Davius Loury are both primed for a breakout 2021-22 campaign. Ames is coming off a standout spring and summer, manning the point guard position alongside Loury for the Mac Irvin Fire. The 6-foot-3 Ames (247 No. 64) is a smooth operator in both transition and the halfcourt, and the left-handed playmaker is at his best when he’s facilitating for others. That being said, he has an innate ability to put the ball in the basket, and he has a great chance to lead the Broncos in scoring. Loury is a 6-foot-7 wing with an evolving skill-set, and he should operate as one of the elite swingmen in the midwest. Iowa State recently had their entire staff in to see Loury, and he should continue to see a rise in his recruitment with a strong 2021-22 high school season.

THE skinny:

The Kenwood Academy Broncos enter the 2021-22 season with sky-high expectations, largely due to a talent-stocked rotation led by Ames and Loury. They lost 5-star junior JJ Taylor to a transfer to Donda Academy, but still have plenty of talent to compete in Illinois. Head coach Mike Irvin - also the head coach for the Mac Irvin Fire of the Nike EYBL - will deploy an athletic, talented bunch that should be as good as any public school in the country. The only noticeable drawback is the Broncos are on the younger side of most elite teams, so they will need to earn their stripes quickly.
