WHISPER MAKES A RESOUNDING ENTRANCE AT LAS VEGAS MARKET ®

LAS VEGAS, NV

T

he big noise coming out of the recent World Market is about a bed-in-a-box brand named Whisper® by Therapedic.

Therapedic has entered the crowded bnb category with a brand of its own that its factories will be able to bring to their own individual markets as early as this month. The Whisper products are unique to the marketplace in that they are hybrids, featuring the 789 Quantum Edge pocketed unit from Leggett & Platt with premium foams like gel visco and other high-performance proprietary foams.

customers, or fulfilled to the consumer directly by a direct ship program. Therapedic executives felt the group needed a bnb program, now, and not wait until the factories had roll-pack equipment. They designed a program with Leggett to serve as a bridge to supply this type of product until the Therapedic factories could compress and roll mattresses on their own. “This is the best of both worlds,” said Gerry Borreggine, president/CEO of Therapedic. “We needed to be in this business now, but in many cases our factories were not ready for it. With the Leggett program we have a trusted partner who will be able to supply us until we get the equipment to sustain this business on our own.” The Therapedic factories that do have roll-pack capabilities will make the Whisper beds on their own, independent of Leggett, according to Borreggine. “We are excited to bring this concept to our customers, via our own factories,” Borreggine said. “But, until we can do it on our own, Leggett is providing us with a valuable assist to get this program rolling. The product is as good as, or better than, like-priced flatbed mattresses, according to Borreggine.

WHISPER BNB’s three delivery options offers optimal flexibility.

“In order to compress these beds, we needed to use better materials to ensure that they would unpack without a loss of loft or resiliency,” Borreggine said. So, Therapedic used better foams and stronger coil units, he said.

The retails on the three-model lineup will be: $699/$799; $799/$899; and $899/$999. The covers feature a stretch knit and a gray damask border, both from Culp.

“The Whisper beds may remain compressed for up to a year without loss of loft or firmness,” he said.

As yet a further point of distinction, the beds will be made to Therapedic specifications, compressed and roll-packed by Leggett & Platt at their Tupelo, MS facility. The beds may be shipped to Therapedic factories, to Therapedic retail

Compressed beds will make-up 75%-to-80% of the market in three years, said Borreggine. “It’s the wave of the future, but the future is now, and with Whisper we are here to meet it today,” Borreggine said.

The Whisper beds could remain packed and inventoried at a retailer’s warehouse without fear of the product ‘going bad,’ according to Leggett executives.
