FAMILY CRAFT FAIR On Saturday 1st November, from 11am to 3pm, there will be a Family Craft Fair at Wheaton Aston Village Hall, supporting Prostate Cancer UK.

PENKRIDGE VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS MARKET In addition to all this fabulous food, there will be Craft Stalls selling everything from handmade jewellery, gifts and handbags to wooden toys, making it easy to find unique presents for all your friends and family.

With over 100 stalls of fabulous food and local crafts, as well as plenty of entertainment, it’s no wonder Penkridge Victorian Christmas Market is the event that truly marks the start of the Festive Season! This year it will be taking place on Friday 28th November from 5pm to 9pm on the site of Penkridge Market, and admission to the event is free!

The Market will be brimming with local produce selling everything you need for your Festive Feast; with the chance to sample local delicacies such as savoury scotch eggs, speciality cheeses, jams, chutneys and preserves.

And if that’s not enough to satisfy your appetite there will be a wide variety of refreshments available, including a hog roast; jacket potatoes, pizza and doughnuts to name but a few! The Old Deanery Farm Cafe will also be open serving hot drinks and festive food, including a traditional Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings.

PENKRIDGE PARISH ADMINISTRATOR RETIRES Well-wishers gathered at the Haling Dene Centre in Penkridge on Friday to say farewell to Mrs Lynne Hames who has worked there as the Parish Administrator for the past 11 years.

Lynne decided to take early retirement after completing 35 years’ service in local government.

Councillors, colleagues and representatives of village groups were in attendance.

The Pre-School Learning Alliance, who have been based at The Haling Dene for several years marked the occasion with a presentation gift to Mrs Hames.

Parish Council Chairman, Councillor Sandra Chambers, thanked Lynne for the support and advice she had given councillors, and the help she had given the community.

Lynne was presented with an orchid, a book, and a monetary gift for a shopping spree.

Now Mrs Hames is looking forward to enjoying more time on country walks and world travel with her husband Brett.

EXHIBITION OF ART PRODUCED BY THE ROSEMARY HALE PAINTING GROUP Oddfellows Hall, Friday 24th and Saturday 25th October 2014 10am until 4pm. Admission free.

Come and visit the OddFellows Hall in Stafford town centre to view an outstanding exhibition of art work by students of renowned local artist and tutor Rosemary Hale. A selection of Rosemary’s work will also be exhibited and some paintings from students will be for sale.

A WEEK OF FUN & FRIGHTS ON THE FARM! opens its gates from Monday 27th Oct – Sunday 2nd November between 10am and 4pm. In addition to the farm’s usual attractions like friendly animals, adventure playgrounds and farm trailer rides there will be a host of spooky activities on offer – like visiting the pumpkin patch to pick your very own pumpkin for carving, pumpkin races, ‘splat the bat’ games and spine-chilling craft activities. Calling all young singers and musicians!

Boys and girls from across the region are invited to hone their talents in two specialist musical workshops hosted by Lichfield Cathedral School.

Woodwind, bowed string and brass players aged 8 to 18 are invited to take part in one of two all-day Chamber Music Workshops in November: Saturday 8th for musicians who have achieved Grades 1 to 4 and Saturday 22nd for those who have reached Grades 5 to 8.

Each workshop costs ÂŁ20 including all tuition, music, lunch and refreshments and is limited to 25 places.

WOLGARSTON HIGH SCHOOL CELEBRATING SUCCESS Congratulations to Scott Emery, who on Saturday 6th September competed in the final of the annual Staffordshire Poet Laureate competition.

Scott had successfully beaten hundreds of applicants to get to the finals at The Shire Hall in Stafford town centre.

The board of Staffordshire County Council through the Libraries and Arts had chosen Scott’s three poems, that he had entered into the competition last summer.

“The English Department are immensely proud of Scott Emery’s fantastic achievement and are delighted that he had the confidence and ambition to bid for the position of Staffordshire’s Young Poet Laureate. Regardless of whether he won or not, his effort and determination got him all the way to the final, which is an incredible achievement in itself: we congratulate him on his efforts and incredible success so far.

All young people should take inspiration from Scott – without hope, ambition and motivation, there can be no such thing as success. LOLLIPOP THEATRE ARTS OPEN AUDITIONS Open Auditions being held on Sunday 2nd November 2014 from 10am-1pm at St Dominic’s High School for Girls in Brewood.

Brewood based youth theatre company; Lollipop Theatre Arts (formerly known as The Lollipop Theatre School) are recruiting new members to join them for their production of Copacabana to be staged on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May 2015 at the Arena Theatre in Wolverhampton.

Sunday sessions cost £10-00 per week and sibling discount is available.

Open auditions to join Lollipop Theatre Arts will include a dance workshop, acting workshop and vocal workshop with current Lollipop members. Auditionees are asked to come dressed in comfortable clothes and sensible footwear and ready to get involved as much as possible.

Age UK South Staffordshire is the lead partner in Eat Well Staffordshire and can provide older people over 65 with a free wellbeing check to include looking at ideas for cheap economical meals and diet options and how to make sure weight levels are maintained or increased (where necessary). The trained volunteer mentors can help with social support, signposting, access to transport, food delivery services and lunch clubs.
