Tettenhall College – New Bus Routes from Staffordshire Tettenhall College is a non-selective independent, day and boarding school for 2-18 year olds situated in the picturesque village of Tettenhall on the outskirts of Wolverhampton. Haughton Christmas Lights raises money for local charities Haughton once again exceeded itself with the annual Christmas Lights display and this year

raised £10,244 via its two collection boxes for the

charities they support. These include the County Air Ambulance, Katherine House Hospice, the Stroke Unit at Royal Stoke Hospital, and of course their local St. Giles School and the Starz Play Group.

On the nights running up to Christmas Eve there were so many people that it was at times difficult to get around the busy parts of the village. However, most people found a sensible place to park and got out of their cars to walk around to get a closer look at all the decorations.

The lights begin to go up in November and this year were officially switched on Saturday 9th December.

This year Haughton looked even more magical when there was a fall of snow which made the village look like a typical Christmas scene.

Although the snow only lasted for a few days this did not put visitors off. A resident said that “It is wonderful when entering the village from the darkness of the A518 to suddenly be enveloped in a wonderful light show and hopefully this puts a smile on the faces of commuters passing through, as well as our visitors”.

As Haughton’s fame spreads they welcome visitors from far and wide, and again look forward to receiving more during Christmas 2018 when they will again be fund raising for their charities.

A special thank you must be given to all villagers who, once again, help to make this event such a success.

Living Well with Dementia Support Groups

CASS host Living Well with Dementia groups in Stafford and Cannock which allow access to those who are supporting someone who lives with dementia, to information and advice in regards to their caring role, an opportunity to socialise with other carers in a safe environment and a chance to spend some time with the person they sometime out of the house.

After the success of the living well dementia group we have expanded our Carers support Groups to Penkridge via a CASS Café. These support groups welcome carers who support someone living with any long term illness or condition. The café replicates the outcomes of the living well with dementia group – by offering a chance to get much needed information and advice for Carers.

Penkridge Market

Easter Bank Holiday Market If you’re looking for somewhere to go this Easter Bank Holiday, then why not pop along to Penkridge Market, where they will be holding a Bank Holiday Market and Car Boot Sale, on Monday the 2nd April. The event will run from 9am to 3pm and with free admission and free parking, it’s a great free day out for all the family.

Around 100 market stall holders will be selling everything from bread, olives and pickles, to plants, handbags and hardware. There’s an indoor market as well as a hard standing area, so it’s a fantastic day out, whatever the weather.

There will also be plenty to keep the children entertained, with a bouncy castle on site, as well as toy stalls, sweets and ice-creams.

Matt Williams, Manager of Penkridge Market said: “Our Bank Holiday Markets are always very popular, but our Easter one always seems to be the busiest.

I think people are keen to get out and about after the Winter and love hunting out a bargain. Our hard standing area also means there’s no muddy fields, so it’s a brilliant day out whatever the weather.”

2017 we sold an example made c.1964 with orange numerals for nearly £280,000 including premium. This achievement was reported in the national media. The owner consigned the watch to auction at one of our valuation events in the east of England. Many other star items have turned up at our events.

We currently also hold the world record for a Women’s Social and Political Union (Suffragettes) Hunger Strike medal sold at auction, being that of Mary Aldham (aka Mary Wood) who slashed the portrait of Henry James at the Royal Academy Exhibition in 1914, and caused a riot. We sold her medal and various personal effects on behalf of the owner for £23,450 including premium.

Members of the public will have the option, if they wish, to consign their goods to auction (subject to terms & conditions). Cash purchase offers are also available.

Q: I think I am in a smoke exempt area, can I have a fire installed?

Q: We don’t have a chimney – can we still have a log burning stove?

A: You don’t need a traditional chimney to have a stove installed, we can use a Twin walled flue system which is designed for use when no chimney is in situ. It is also used regularly in conservatories and orangeries.

Very occasionally a property is not suitable for such an installation, but always check with us first.

Q: How long will the installation take?

A: The majority are installed in one day. If extra building works are carried out it will take longer, but we aim to give you as little disruption as possible.

Q: Do I have to get a builder to make alterations to my fireplace?

A: Most clients will ask for all the works to be carried out by us, which we are happy to do. Occasionally some customers will be renovating a house and have a

Stafford Spiritualist Church Come along to Stafford Spiritualist Church, where a warm welcome awaits you. Spiritual Healing is available on a Monday 1pm-2pm and on a Wednesday 6:30pm-7:20pm donation only.

We hold regular services on a Sunday evening, starting at 6:30pm-8pm where a demonstration of mediumship is included within the service (free will collection) and on a Wednesday it’s our Evening of Mediumship 7:30pm -9pm (£3 entrance).

Charles Darwin Tuesday 13th March

Tuesday 13th February Roger Wilson and Jim Stuart will be our speakers.

Roger Wilson, District Timber Marketing Forester, has been with the Forestry Commission for 41 years 29 of which have been on Cannock Chase.

Jim Stuart has worked for the Forestry Commission for 20 years, 17 of which have been spent on Cannock Chase as Wildlife Ranger and Tractor Manager. Their talk will cover the management of the Forestry Commission Cannock Chase areas including:- design plans, environmental assessments, the production of timber, tractor work, restocking, maintenance, recreation, heritage, and conservation amongst other things.

Charles Darwin naturalist, geologist and biologist was one of Britain’s most famous and influential scientists. He was born and received his early education in Shrewsbury. At first his father wanted him to become a doctor then that having failed sent him to Cambridge in the hope he would enter the church. That also failed. Darwin obtained an excellent degree and was immediately invited, on a self funding basis, to join HMS Beagle. So began his life’s work. Derek Holloway our speaker will explore aspects of Darwin’s life.

Stafford Players have “Hayfever” in February To begin 2018, Stafford Players have chosen to stage the ever popular Noel Coward play “Hay Fever”.

This light period comedy explores the bizarre antics of the middle class, ultra-Bohemian Bliss family.

Judith Bliss is a retired actress to whom all the world is literally a stage. The play takes place over a summer weekend in the mid 1920’s and follows the catastrophic and dramatic effect the family have on their four individually invited house guests.

The writing is brilliant and a fine example of the camp, sarcastic, acidic humour for which Coward was renowned.

Stafford Players’ very experienced cast is headed by married couple Denise Arthur and Geoff Dobbs who play Judith Bliss and her writer husband David. Their rather wayward children are played

by Carly Smith and David Pritchard. Appearing as Judith’s doting admirer Sandy is Jordan Wingfield.

This shows a very different side of Jordan who took on the daunting role of Alan Turing in the Players’ last play “Breaking the Code”. The flamboyant Myra is played by Dawn Huxley, who won the NSDA Best Actress award for her superb performance of Claudia in Stafford Players’ production of ”Honour” two years ago. Dave Parton, who plays the diplomatist Richard, and Gabrielle Ashmore, as the timid Jackie, complete the guest list. The task of trying to care for this motley assembly falls to Clara (played by Brenda Hunt) and Amy (undertaken by newcomer Rikki Rushton).

The play runs from Tuesday February 13th to Saturday February 17th at 7.30pm in the Malcolm Edwards Theatre (MET) at Stafford’s Gatehouse.
