Barefoot Walk for Kenya St Michael’s CE (A) First school At the end of the summer term 2017 all the children of St Michael’s CE (A) First school took off their
shoes and walked barefoot out of school. This was
not a march of defiance but an incredibly generous gesture.
St Michael’s have had a strong link with Malinda Primary in Kenya since 2012 and when visiting teachers have shared photos of Malinda children, St Michael’s children have identified that the children do not have shoes and wanted to do something about it. Incredibly on that last day in July every child

Finally on the Wednesday 21st February the suitcases were loaded into a Land Rover to be taken to Malinda Primary. The shoes were unpacked and the neediest children were sent to the Headteacher’s office to find a pair that fitted. Hatmakers, hatmakers showcase your hats – New exhibition at Wool @ J13 this May Artists and crafters who create headwear out of wool-based textiles are being called to submit their work as part of a new exhibition at Midlands wool fest Wool @ J13 on 12th & 13th May.
Wool @ J13 co-organiser Ingrid Wagner, a wool artist based in Staffordshire, is on a mission to gather at least 100 hats for the ‘Get Ahead, Get a Hat’ showcase; which will help raise both awareness and funds for one of the event’s nominated charities, Brain Tumour Research. The hat can be of any style and inspired by any era, but must be handcrafted with wool being the highest fibre content, as Ingrid explains: “We want to gather as many hats as possible – wild, wacky, imaginative or classical. Be it a Balaclava, a Bowler or the flourish of a Fez, a Cavalier’s hat or an extravaganza worn to a wedding;
12
whatever shape or size or from whatever era you choose to draw your inspiration, we want to see it; whether you crochet, knit, weave, stitch or however you choose to achieve your hat, as long as the highest fibre content is wool (not acrylic, please note), we advise you to let your imagination go wild, run backwards and forwards in time to see what you may unearth sitting atop the heads of the people and then let your fingers do the talking. If you make it, we’ll show it. “Entering a Hat in our Exhibition will support Brain Tumour Research’s fundraising for vital research into this body, mind & soul-destroying disease. It may be a little-known fact that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other form of cancer and your creative input can represent a contribution to helping to end this startling statistic.”
masterclass with felt artists Innerspiral was a huge hit on the weekend of 10th and 11th March, with many of the attendees keen to showcase their creations in the hat exhibition. Ingrid is also rallying a fund-raising flash mob from Stafford’s Soup Kitchen tearoom on Saturday, 31st March in honour of the charity’s annual ‘Wear A Hat Day’.
Those keen to enter their own woollen head-covering creation into the exhibition can do so for just £2, with 50p going straight to Brain Tumour Research.
To secure your space in the ‘Get Ahead, Get a Hat’ exhibition or to find out more about the Wool @J13 festival, head to: http://wool-j3.uk or email: hello@wool-j13.uk.
Exhibitors will then see their hats shown to the public during the 2018 Wool @ J13 festival at Lower Drayton Farm, near Penkridge, on 12th & 13th May. The ‘Get Ahead, Get a Hat’ exhibition is one of a series of events being run by the Wool @ J13 team to support Brain Tumour Research – a hat making

Stafford’s Premier Independent Psychic Centre Expands Four months ago Angel Attic, opposite the Texaco garage at St. Patricks Place, Stafford opened its doors to the public for the first time, providing demonstrations of mediumship, afternoon teas and fish and chip suppers with mediums, workshops with top class tutors, private reading and much more. The demand has been so huge that we have needed to take on another training suite and a new purpose made demonstration area, with increased capacity, while still retaining our gift shop and café area, where the kettle is constantly on to warmly welcome those with an interest in all things psychic and mediumistic, looking for understanding, development or who are just curious.
The quality of mediumship at Tuesday evening demonstrations is such that even using our new demonstration room, mediums are frequently attracting capacity audiences. Angel Attic has become renowned for high quality, evidential mediumship, delivered in a relaxed energised environment free from the constraints of religion, to ensure the true essence of a loved one in spirit is portrayed. Our “Experimental Night” that involved everyone in table tipping, angel cards, pendulums, automatic writing and dowsing proved hugely popular and a night of table tipping is planned for the 3rd April, with another full experimental night scheduled for the 26th May.
Recent workshops on tarot cards, pyramids, trance mediumship and spirit art, all tutored by mediums with vast individual experience, have proved hugely successful with attendees eager to ensure their places are reserved on future workshops by the same tutors. Other workshops over the next few months include a “psychic boot camp”, angel cards, shamanic drumming, tarot cards and Chinese astrology, animal communication, graphology, musical mediumship, pyramids, mediumship and psychism, as well as Saturday evening specials and Sunday workshops, with a host of very experienced visiting mediums.
Afternoon teas and fish and chip suppers with mediums are also very popular, our next fish and chip supper being on the 23rd March. All that and private sittings too! If you would like more information, make a reservation at one of our events, or book a private sitting, please email rachel.angelattic@gmail.com, contact us through facebook or telephone 07504 126336.

self-tanning the danger of sitting out in the sun is well documented and, in any case, the UK isn’t blessed with a steady supply of the natural option. but self-tanning options have really improved in recent years and from just a few £s you can gain a completely natural tan. if you just need colour on a small area such as your face, a home self-tan is an ideal option. if you haven’t tried any of the available lotions recently then you won’t know how light or dark the results will be, so you should do a 24 hour patch test. choose a small area of skin that really won’t notice e.g. on your stomach and 26
apply some of the product. take care not to cover the area for the first hour or so otherwise the lotion will just rub off and give you a false ‘reading’. one of the key things to remember when doing home tanning is that it’s imperative to wash your hands post treatment – orange fingers really isn’t a good look. While this is ideal for small body areas, if you want greater coverage – legs, arms, back – then using a salon is a must. not only can they reach all those difficult areas, but the tan will be more even. With the right skin preparation and with someone else applying the tan (either a lotion or spray), not only will you have better results but it will last longer too.

Staffs Fest - 25th 26th & 27th May at Lower Drayton Farm Staffs Fest a three day festival brought together by LR Partnership a local events company, has already made its mark on the UK music scene attracting local, regional and national musicians and audiences from all over the UK. The festival which celebrates its fourth year in 2018 is held at Lower Drayton Farm, Penkridge near Stafford ST19 5RE and has already proved to be especially popular with people living within the local communities of Stafford, Stoke, Penkridge and Cannock. Attracting local and national media interest has increased the profile of this fast-growing festival with the BBC and several regional radio stations together with local press outlets interviewing and co promoting performers, organisers and sponsors. Having used a single large performance stage in recent years to host all acts, Staffs Fest 2018 will underline the growing success of the event with the introduction of a second marquee which will host an additional stage featuring acoustic acts and on the Sunday a Northern LR Partnership presents Soul All Dayer with 8 DJs playing all on vinyl.
The festival is not one dimensional however. In addition to the wide ranging live music on offer, there are a range of food and drink vendors and gift stalls, clothing and ethnic stalls providing all manner of things suited for a typical music festival audience whilst the beer tent promises to never run out of beers and spirits throughout the weekend. As befitting a family orientated music festival, provision is made for younger members in the audience with a Kidz Corner, inflatable’s, kids disco plus free access to Lower Drayton Fun Farm, which includes everything from animal feeding to adventure playground. As with previous years, LR Partnership are allowing all children under 16 free admission throughout the festival weekend as long as they are accompanied with an adult. All ticket types whether its an evening only, day/evening ticket or weekend all include optional camping. One of the best value for money festivals in the UK only £40 for a weekend ticket. Fairtrade at Penkridge Penkridge Middle School
A group of Year 6 pupils from Penkridge Middle School took part in the ‘Ethical Challenge’ organised by the CO-OP store as part of International Fair Trade Fortnight.

The pupils were introduced to the CO-OPs commitment to ethical trading and many of the Fair Trade products available.

With a huge amount of stock in each store everyone thought the amount would be huge but were amazed to learn that, through a range of recycling initiatives and a policy to never send waste to landfill, the store generates less than one wheelie bin of waste each week. Following the activity everyone was given ome fairtrade products and began to design posters promoting the Fairtrade initiative which may soon be on display in the local shop. The behaviour and enthusiasm of all of the pupils was superb and they all agreed they will take the Fairtrade message home to their friends and family.
This then lead to the company’s policy to reduce waste and the children were asked to guess how April 2018

Be Smart, Keep Updated Staffordshire Police
As part of the wider approach to digital and traditional engagement, Staffordshire Smart Alert was launched by Police and Crime Commissioner for Staffordshire Matthew Ellis in March 2016 to improve engagement between Staffordshire Police and the communities they serve. The free service, which is for people aged 12 years or over, allows you to personalise your Smart Alerts to find out more about rural, horse, canal, school and cycle crime and to receive free, localised crime alerts and community safety advice. Each alert will include an incident number and contact details so members of the public can contact Staffordshire Police if they have any relevant information. Local businesses can also receive alerts that are relevant to their industry sector. Local officers can now send instant alerts when a crime has just taken place, or is taking place, in the area they are in. These targeted alerts can be sent out to a radius ranging from 3km down to a single street in an area, for example, where a child has gone missing or a home has been broken into. This will allow residents and businesses to play a more active role in their community and act as the eyes and ears of Staffordshire Police to help stop criminals in their tracks. Set your personal preferences through the Staffordshire Smart Alert website www.staffordshiresmartalert.uk or download the App and you’ll receive up to date information either by email if you’ve registered on the website, or directly through the App.
