Dear members,
It is my pleasure to once again present a report on the year that was for The Juniors Group of Clubs. In a time when cost-of-living pressures continue to shape how people choose to spend their leisure dollar, we remain proud to be not only a football club at heart, but also a vital social and community hub for our members and the wider community who share their valuable free time with us. For the 2024–25 financial year, our revenue increased compared to the prior year; however, rising operational costs resulted in a post-tax loss. Our CEO will provide a more detailed overview of these figures in his report.
I must take this opportunity to acknowledge the passing of one of our long-serving directors, Spyro “Spros” Spyrou. Spros was a much-loved figure within the Souths Juniors community, as reflected in the hundreds who attended his memorial service to pay their respects. He served as a Director for over 14 years and, prior to that, as Catering Manager at the Kingsford Club for many years. More importantly, he was a great friend and a strong support to me, particularly in our shared passion for junior rugby league and the licensed club. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
In Spyro’s place, I warmly welcome Blake Solly to our Board of Directors. Blake brings a wealth of experience in both business and sports management as the current CEO of the South Sydney Rabbitohs. His knowledge and leadership will be an invaluable addition to the board, and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.
On the community front, we remain committed to providing financial support through the ClubGRANTS system and to backing important local events. These include the Malabar Family Day in October, which honours the lives of locals lost in the 2002 Bali bombings, and the Maroubra Fun Run, which we are proud to sponsor once again. The Fun Run has firmly re-established itself as one of the area’s leading charity events, celebrating health, fitness, and community spirit. We are proud to stand alongside these initiatives.
Our entertainment and promotional calendar continues to deliver a diverse and exciting range of activities for our members. Henry’s Bar has quickly become a favourite – the go-to spot for major sporting events such as State of Origin, as well as weekly sport, racing, live music, and the hugely popular Sunday night Music Bingo. This year saw the successful launch of our first Everest Calcutta and the introduction of a new Quiz Meisters trivia night every Wednesday. Of course, a major attraction remains the 49% off drinks Happy Hour, held every Friday from 4–6pm and Saturdays from 12–2pm.

Our commitment to live entertainment remains strong, with top local and international artists performing weekly in the Wintle Theatre. We are especially looking forward to welcoming our members’ children to the annual Kids’ Christmas Concerts in December – always a highlight of the season and a reminder of the joy of community at this special time of year.
On the football front, the Rabbitohs endured a challenging season, finishing 14th on the ladder with nine wins. Injuries to key players played a significant role in shaping results, as they would for any NRL club. The positive news is that the majority of the playing group is committed to next season, with the squad set to start at near full strength. With a largely unchanged roster, there is great anticipation for a stronger campaign in 2026, and we all look forward to following their progress with renewed optimism.
As we look ahead to 2026 and beyond, The Juniors Group of Clubs is filled with confidence and purpose. Our proud foundations as a football club and community hub continue to guide us, and with each challenge comes the chance to grow stronger together. The year ahead presents opportunities to strengthen our operations, enhance our entertainment and social offerings, and continue nurturing the next generation of young players who embody both the future of our club and the proud traditions of South Sydney. With the unwavering support of our members, we are confident that the future holds progress, resilience, and shared success.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the dedication of our management team and staff, whose efforts are guided by the leadership of our CEO, Geoff Knight, along with the steadfast support of our Board of Directors. To our members, I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful Christmas and a new year filled with health, happiness, and prosperity.
Keith McCraw | President
Dear members,
It is my pleasure to present the Chief Executive Officer’s Report for the year ended 30 June 2025. The past year has been one of measured progress, ongoing transformation, and renewed focus on strengthening our foundations to support the future growth and sustainability of The Juniors Group of Clubs.
Financial Performance
For the 2025 financial year, the Group recorded a net loss after tax of $2.872 million, compared to a loss of $2.172 million in 2024. The 2025 financial year was shaped by several key factors:
- Inflationary pressures and rising wage costs continued to impact margins across our operations.
- Depreciation charges increased to $5.622 million, reflecting substantial investment in venue upgrades.
- Finance costs rose due to higher additional borrowings supporting capital development.
- Community and sporting grants of $826,000 were distributed to support junior rugby league, local schools, and community organisations.
Despite these challenges, our positive cash generation demonstrates the Club’s resilience and financial capacity to continue to invest in growth initiatives to provide much needed financial support to our community.
During the year, we completed a major renovation of the ground floor gaming room, the construction of a new café, and a full upgrade of the front reception area. These projects have significantly enhanced member experience, modernised our facilities, and positioned the Club to grow visitation and revenue in future years.
Our consolidated group balance sheet remains strong with member’s funds totaling $43,130,000 as at 30 June 2025.
Members are reminded that the financial information contained in this report is presented in a summary format and that if you would like to review the detailed version containing all disclosures, it can be downloaded from the club’s website or posted out to you on request. We recently submitted an Expression of Interest to Randwick Council regarding the potential redevelopment of the Rainbow Street Market site. This would enable us to explore the possibility for us to build a new clubhouse on part of the site. We are still in the very early stages of this process and look forward to discussing this with Council.

However, should we receive agreement in principle to sell this site, it will provide the necessary foundation for us to move forward with formal negotiations and secure the best deal possible for the Club and its members. Without this preliminary approval, it remains difficult to progress the matter further, but we remain optimistic and will continue to keep members informed as the process develops. I ask that members approve this. I also request members approve the resolution to sell 9 and 11 Wallace Street. These are non-core assets, and while there are no current plans to sell, this approval provides flexibility should the sale align with the Club’s strategic or financial objectives in the future, and I think now is the right time for this approval.
In August this year, we were deeply saddened by the passing of our long-serving Director, Spyro Spyrou. Spyro’s commitment to The Juniors spanned decades, both as our former Catering Manager and as a valued Director of the Board. His contribution, guidance, and friendship enriched our Club, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of working alongside him. Beyond his service as a Director, Spyro was a proud and dedicated member of the Junior League, serving in many roles including coach, manager, Junior Reps selector, and Director. His passion for community and sport also extended to his involvement with the Maroubra Sub-Branch, where he was an Honorary Member. We extend our deepest condolences to Spyro’s family and friends. His legacy will remain an enduring part of The Juniors’ story. I am pleased to welcome Blake Solly, CEO of the Rabbitohs, as a Director on our Board and look forward to working with him.
I wish to extend my sincere thanks to our Board of Directors for their leadership and strategic oversight, to our management team and staff for their dedication and professionalism, and to you, our members, for your continued support and loyalty.
In conclusion 2025 was one of progress, prudent investment, and ongoing community support. While our bottom-line result reflects the realities of a changing operating environment and substantial reinvestment, our Club’s balance sheet remains strong, our mission remains clear, and our future remains bright.
