Welcome to the Winter 2025 edition of the “Encore” magazine.
We are delighted to share with you a packed program of events going into the cooler months. Once again, it’s full of information on everything the Juniors Group of Clubs has to offer across our three venues. What better way to be entertained than at The Juniors with great food, quality entertainment and all the NRL and sports action on our live screens.
Art Club Annual Exhibition
Our Art Club celebrate their 60th Anniversary in 2025 and will once again be showcasing their works of art in the Terrace function room between 15-17 August at The Juniors Kingsford. The Art Club started in 1965, and is one of our longest running special interest groups we have at the club. I would like to acknowledge this great achievement as they celebrate six decades of artistic passion, talent and creativity. I hope that many of our members stop by to view the many works on display. You won’t be disappointed.
Junior League & State of Origin
Another footy season is well and truly upon us, and it is great to see all the young local boys and girls running around for their various clubs in our junior league. Participation rates are once again strong this year as we strive to promote and foster the game of rugby league in the South Sydney area. This is a mammoth task, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and volunteers who are vital in helping us week in and week out to make this happen. We couldn’t do it without them.
It’s always an exciting time of the year coming into State of Origin and this year the Blues have a new coach in Laurie Daley. We wish him well and hope he can bring home the chocolates for NSW after last year’s series win!
The Juniors in The Community
This edition’s focus in the community is our “Winter Weakies Swimming” Intra Club that provides a great way to stay fit and engage with the local community during the winter months. We, as a club, love supporting these smaller community groups and I encourage anyone in the local area to get involved! Full details are on page 7.
Entertainment Highlights
As an avid show attendee myself I’m always keeping an eye on what is coming up at the club. We have a star-studded couple of months ahead with some iconic acts performing in our award winning Wintle Theatre.
Highlights include Australian rock legends 1927, club favourite Peter Northcote, and the Tierney brothers who are one half of the world famous vocal group Human Nature. We also have the rescheduled Digger Revell and Normie Rowe show on Sunday 13th July for those of you that love the music of the golden age of rock n roll. Be sure to get your tickets early to secure your favourite seats and see you at the show!

Welcome members to the latest edition of the “Encore” magazine and we look forward to seeing you at our three venues over the next few months. There is a great deal happening over the winter months as we offer the best in entertainment, food, promotions, and live sport. As always, we have been working hard to deliver the best events and promotions for our members.
Ground Floor Renovations
I am pleased to advise that as this magazine goes to print we will be nearing completion of our ground floor renovations. This has been a 12 month project which was done over several stages to allow us to continue to trade and we are ecstatic that it’s now getting the finishing touches. We hope our members are happy with the end result. The floor has been transformed into a modern and functional space which members can be proud of.
I want to personally thank all our members who have been very understanding during this time of disruption. All of us here at the club appreciate your support during these renovations.

Henrys – 49% off “Happy Hours”
Henrys now has two permanent happy hour promotions every week with 49% off drinks on Fridays 4-6pm and Saturdays 12-2pm. With the cost of living affecting everyone this is a great time to snap up the best drink prices in the eastern suburbs. New EV charging Stations
The Juniors Kingsford now features three Electric vehicle charging points for our members that drive electric vehicles. These are located on the entry level of the underground carpark next to our entrance. I’m sure they will prove to be invaluable to patrons who can charge their car while they socialise at the club.
Winter Heatwave Raffle
To keep you nice and cozy this winter our popular Winter Heatwave raffle is back with over $3,000 worth of prizes. The raffle was a huge success last year and we look forward to another great day this year.
There are 40 prizes and tickets are $1 each or receive the buyer’s bonus and receive extra tickets. Drawn Sunday 8th June at 2pm and replaces Lucky Cards on the day. Full details are on page 5 of the Encore.

Celebrating 50 Years of Fun with the Winter Weakies Swimming Club!
For 50 years, the Winter Weakies Swimming Club has been making waves in our local community!
Since joining forces with The Juniors as an Intra Club in 2011—after our big splashy merger with Maroubra RSL—we’ve been all about good vibes, great people, and a whole lot of poolside fun.
This season, come make a splash with us at the Des Renford Leisure Centre’s Indoor Competition Pool! We’re diving into action every Sunday morning from April to September — and you’re invited!
Whether you’re a water warrior or just dipping your toes in, we’re a family-friendly, all-inclusive club that welcomes everyone. So bring your energy, your smile, and maybe a towel— let’s dive into a season of fitness, fun, and community connection!

Meet Cristian Constantine, a regular who has been attending The Juniors Fitness Centre for the last 9 years. Cristian’s weekly training routine consists of a full body workout split into 3 days: the first day of chest and triceps, second day of legs and shoulders and third day of biceps and back.
If you met Cristian today, you wouldn’t be able to recognise him with the 16 year old that first started attending The Juniors Fitness Centre back in 2016.
At the time, Cristian would take a bus after high school classes to The Juniors to work out. He started coming to The Juniors Fitness Centre with friends because of the student pricing and how close and central the Fitness Centre was to where he lived. Cristian recounts that as soon as he stepped foot into the club, a friendly face directed him to the Fitness Centre where had an easy time signing up for a membership.

“It’s a community that’s being created in the Fitness Centre where you really have a sense of belonging.”
Over the last 9 years, Cristian graduated from high school, completed his marketing degree at Macquarie University and started working full-time. Throughout all these significant life milestones, Cristian has continued to renew his Juniors Fitness Centre membership. What has made him stay over the years?
“I’ve been to many gyms in the Eastern suburbs. Something that’s missing that I always get from the Juniors Fitness Centre is a sense of community with staff and other patrons.
The staff don’t just greet me at the door - they know my name and encourage me to try new things. They proactively help guide and push me in my workouts, show me the correct way to use equipment and share other methods to train different muscle groups.
I’ve also made friends with other patrons, like Offer Malka. Offer is almost double my age but we’ve gone from not knowing each other, to a nod hello, to a short talk and now we like to train together when we see each other at the gym.”
Being a smaller gym, our gym-goers are more than just their membership number. Cristian is number 73218 but he’s Cristian as well and is also known by his nicknames Big Cris and Big Dog around the Fitness Centre. Our Fitness Centre instructors have decades of knowledge in the industry and when experience is coupled with personal connection, it allows instructors to know the gym-goer’s personality and what they’re striving for.
Our instructors know there’s no blanket way of working out that suits everyone. Instead, the instructors take on a personalised approach because they know each person’s perceived limitations and can push them in the right direction.
Another reason Cristian has stayed at The Juniors Fitness Centre are the full gym renovation in 2023. With all the new and added equipment, Cristian is able to work out more efficiently since he no longer needs to wait.
If you ever see Cristian in the Fitness Centre, come and say hello. Our staff, and Cristian, are more than happy to foster a friendship, work towards fitness goals and embark on fitness journeys together.
