President’s Report CEO’s Report Directors’ Report Financial Reports Club Grants Recipients
President’s Report Dear Members, As I reflect on another year for the Juniors Group of Clubs, I can report to our members that the future is looking very positive as we had a full year of trading without restrictions, which affected all of us for so long. The three Juniors clubs are an important social hub for our community, and we have finally been able to get back to doing what we do best in that respect by providing a place to dine, drink, watch live entertainment and sport, and meet up with family and friends. This is very pleasing from my perspective and why we all invest so much time and energy into the club. This then also allows us to perform our primary charter of fostering the great game of rugby league in the South Sydney area through financing our Junior League competitions and development squads each year. As our CEO Geoff Knight will touch on in his report, we have refurbished the club’s fitness centre and have plans to refurbish our ground floor which is well underway and scheduled for next year. The other project which has been undertaken in recent months is a freshen up of the Henry Morris Bar which is now known as “Henry’s”. Whilst remaining a sports bar, we are livening up the room as a multipurpose space including live music on Friday nights and Music Bingo on Sundays. We are also making great pizzas four nights a week from Thursday-Sunday. Henry’s will also be available to hire for your next party with the ability to give you a sectioned off area exclusively for your use. It is another exciting addition to the club and coupled with the fitness centre and ground floor renovations, shows that we are progressing with providing our members with first class facilities. Another key offering that we provide are our function spaces. Between our three venues we have a space to suit any occasion. We now have the addition of Henry’s Bar to add to our venue list which will be suitable for birthday and Christmas parties. We are also offering a unique funeral package for large gatherings of up to 400, where we can offer an all-in-one funeral service and wake in the Wintle Theatre. We believe it offers a solution to people looking for a non-religious service and wake in the one place in comfort for all involved. Our functions department can answer any questions you may have relating to either of these function spaces. It’s not too late for any of our members to plan your Christmas work or social event with us.
4 | ANNUAL REPORT 2023
On the community front we continue to provide financial support through the Club Grants system and support many community events. These include the Malabar family day in October that celebrates the lives of the Malabar locals lost in the 2002 Bali bombings. The Juniors are also the major sponsor for the Maroubra Fun Run which has returned for the first time since 2019 and is a great day celebrating health, fitness, and community. Each year we also sponsor Randwick Council’s Step Out Speak Out Walk which raises awareness about domestic violence and asks everyone to stand up and say no to domestic violence. We are proud to be associated with these community events. We continue this year to revise and re-invent our weekly promotions and major draws and look forward to another bumper Christmas period with our mega raffles for both toys and hams plus a Volkswagen T-Roc to be given away to one lucky winner for Christmas. We can’t wait to have our member’s children attend the annual kids Christmas concerts in December as well. It really is a great time of the year as we all look forward to the Christmas and holiday period. The Rabbitohs had a mixed year as they looked like genuine premiership favourites in the first half of the NRL season, but then fell away and failed to make the semi-final series in the end which was a disappointing finish to a very promising year. We all know that this team can do better and with the addition of Jack Wighton next year, and a full pre-season at the new Centre of Excellence at Heffron park, I have no doubt that they will bounce back in 2024. I would like to acknowledge the efforts of our management team and hard-working staff led as always by our CEO Geoff Knight, plus the unwavering support and diligence of our board of directors. I would like to acknowledge the sad passing of our long-standing director Peter Ramsay, who truly loved the club and devoted a large part of his life to the junior league and licensed club operations. I also welcome Cliff Pearce, who has filled the vacant position on the board as a result of Peter’s passing. In closing I would like to personally wish all our wonderful members a merry Christmas and a prosperous and healthy new year. Keith McCraw | President
CEO’s Report Dear members, I am pleased to present to you the Chief Executive Officer’s report for the financial year ended 30th June 2023. Financially speaking 2023 was somewhat of a trading recovery year as our club like the industry as a whole looked to regain the support of their communities and steady the ship after being forced to shut down for 3.5 months in a COVID-19 affected 2022. This of course needs to be considered when comparatively reviewing our financial performance for the year which recorded a net loss after tax of ($35,000) after posting a loss of ($2,466,000) in the prior year. While it has been pleasing to see a somewhat “return to normal” there are always challenges imminent, in particular the rising cost of living which is affecting many of our members and their families. The rising cost of goods, services and wages is also making it very challenging for us to maintain acceptable service levels while ensuring we continue to offer members value for money. Rest assured your current board of directors and management team are working tirelessly in our roles as custodians to maintain the Juniors Group of Clubs as vibrant affordable entertainment venues. The following table encapsulates our financial performance since 1 July 2021: FINANCIAL YEAR

Members are reminded that the financial information contained in this report is presented in a summary format and that if you would like to review the detailed version containing all disclosures it can be downloaded from the club’s website or posted out to you on request. The freshly modernised gym is proving very popular with members both young and old and continues to be very busy. Plans are well advanced for an internal refurbishment of our ground floor area. The work is scheduled to start early in the new year. The plans and décor look very exciting, and we are confident members will be pleased with the new look. On a personal note, I would like to thank our chairman Keith McCraw and the Board of Directors, management, and staff of the club for their truly outstanding efforts over the past twelve months. Sadly, our long-standing Director Peter Ramsay had to endure the death of his only son and then 7 weeks later, he passed away of a broken heart. He was a member on our Board for over 20 years, served as a Junior League volunteer for over 40 years and was a much respected and loved member of our community. Pete will be missed by all who knew him. Finally, to you the member’s, thank you again for your ongoing support and patronage which is integral to the future success of the club.
