Are Shaping Jupiter

Editor’s Note: Here’s to the

Doers, Dreamers, Disruptors

What makes a man influential?

In this issue, we explore that question by shining a light on the men of Jupiter who are not just building businesses - but building community, inspiring wellness, and redefining success. Whether they’re shaping the skyline through luxury home construction, leading in health and wellness, or creating culinary experiences that draw the attention of the Michelin Guide, these men are proving that influence starts with intention.

They are fathers, mentors, athletes, creatives, and problem solvers. Many started with very little but worked with grit and vision to turn their passions into thriving ventures. You’ll read about entrepreneurs who transformed their garages into innovation labs, doctors who turned personal setbacks into healing careers, and business leaders who measure success not only by profit but by purpose.

What unites these profiles is more than ambition - it’s a sense of responsibility. A desire to leave the world, and this town, a little better than they found it. For some, that means sponsoring local youth programs. For others, it’s re-imagining a community golf course, or simply being the type of neighbor who shows up when it matters. In big ways and small, they lead with integrity.

We also dig into the lifestyle these men cultivate: from performance vehicles and personalized home design to fashion-forward style and thoughtful mental health habits. Because success isn’t just about working hard - it’s about living well. And here in Jupiter, we’re lucky to be surrounded by a natural environment that encourages both.

This issue is a tribute to the modern man - one who prioritizes balance, values relationships, and understands that personal health and community health go hand in hand. It’s a celebration of impact over ego, substance over show.

So whether you’re here to learn more about Jupiter’s rising leaders or looking for inspiration to elevate your own life, I hope these pages remind you of what’s possible when men live with purpose.

To the doers, dreamers, and difference-makers, this one’s for you.

The Jupiter Political Trailblazers Who Made Their Marks at Home and Beyond

Nestled along Florida’s Atlantic coast, Jupiter is known for its scenic beauty and affluent communities. Yet, beyond its picturesque landscapes, the town has been home to several notable political figures who have left an indelible mark on both local and national stages.

Jerry Thomas stands out as a pioneering force in Florida politics. Born in West Palm Beach in 1929, Thomas served in the Florida House of Representatives and later in the State Senate, where he held the position of Senate President from 1970 to 1972. His political journey also included a gubernatorial run and a brief tenure as Undersecretary of the U.S. Treasury under President Gerald Ford.

In more recent times, Patrick Murphy emerged as a significant political figure. After moving to Jupiter in 2012, Murphy successfully ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Florida’s 18th congres-

sional district. His victory over incumbent Allen West was one of the most closely watched races of the 2012 election cycle.

Carl Domino, a longtime Jupiter resident, served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2002 to 2010. Beyond his legislative work, Domino’s background in investment management and his multiple bids for congressional seats underscore his enduring commitment to public service.

On a more local scale, Joseph V. Reed played a pivotal role in shaping Jupiter Island’s community. In 1944, he and his wife, Permelia, founded the Jupiter Island Residents Committee and The Island Club, institutions that have been central to the island’s governance and social life.

From state legislatures to community boards, these individuals have significantly influenced Jupiter’s political landscape, reflecting the town’s unique blend of local charm and broader political engagement.

What drew you to the Jupiter area?

I grew up in South Florida and would always come to Jupiter to go surfing. Every time I visited, I admired the calm demeanor of the community, Iconic lighthouse, and how beautiful the beaches were. I promised myself I would move here whenever I had the chance.

How did you get into this type of career?

Favorite thing about and/or to do in the Jupiter area?

I went to University of Florida for premed, but switched into vertebrate biology research after realizing the pharmaceutical bias of medical curriculum. After graduating I went to the Florida School of Massage and fell in love with manual body work. Once I worked for a couple chiropractors, I realized I was helping more people get better faster than some of the chiropractors I worked for. So I asked, “How do I get your job?” They said I had to go to chiropractic doctorate school... so I did! The rest is history.

Going to downtown Abacoa on the weekends to see what fun events they have going on. Sometimes there’s concerts, every other Friday there’s food-truck rallies, or just going to watch sporting events at any of the bars. There’s a restaurant for any mood your in. Always a good vibe!businesses of all kinds.

What drew you to the Jupiter area?

My family relocated from New York to Florida in 1975, when I was 11. I loved growing up in Florida. I began my professional career in Los Angeles, then later transferred to Atlanta. Still, I always knew I wanted to return to Florida—and in 1994, I got that chance.

How did you get into this type of career?

I transitioned into real estate in 2000 after a successful career in the golf industry. At the time, my wife—an executive recruiter—was regularly referring her relocating clients to Realtors across Florida. Recognizing the opportunity, I earned my real estate license so she could confidently refer those clients to me. After gaining valuable experience working under several top brokers, I launched my own brokerage in April 2004. Today, I lead a dynamic team of 50 agents who are passionate about living—and selling—the Florida lifestyle.

Dr. Keith Cini, AP Agape Healing Arts

What drew you to the Jupiter area?

As an avid golfer and boater, Jupiter is truly my ideal place to call home. With its extensive waterways and abundance of world-class golf courses, it offers the ultimate lifestyle for outdoor enthusiasts like me.

In 2008, a friend working on Tiger Woods’ yacht Privacy invited us to visit. After exploring Florida, I fell in love with the quiet charm of Jupiter—quaint, peaceful, and timeless. I realized then: in Jupiter, there are no bad days at the beach.

Favorite thing about and/or to do in the Jupiter area?

After 9/11, I shifted from chasing nightlife in NYC to a path of health, longevity, and service. As a college All-American football player, I trained in Aikido in Japan, Tai Chi in China, sat with the Dalai Lama, and joined sweat lodge ceremonies. Guided by athletics and martial arts, I moved to Santa Fe, met extraordinary mentors, and began a lifelong journey of healing and spiritual growth. Today, I continue this path—cultivating balance in family, business, and community. Serving clients through unity gives me purpose, direction, and a meaningful way to support others on their healing journeys.

This health-conscious, supportive community aligns with our lifestyle. We love spending time on and in the water, surrounded by family, friends, and the natural beauty that makes this place feel like the center of the world.

Mitch Rockwell, Rockwell’s Hearing Center

What drew you to the Jupiter area? It’s a nice town that still fells small but has plenty to do.

How did you get into this type of career?

I joined the medical field in 1998 after leaving a position as an executive chef and moved into a position as an optical lab tech. In 2002 I accepted a job as practice manager of an office in Stuart, FL. where I became a Board Certified Optician. While holding that position I returned to college from 2010 until 2014 studying microbiology as it relates to vision and hearing. In 2016 I was offered to be practice manager of another company and created a hearing aid center in that office which lead me to opening my own clinic in Tequesta.

Favorite thing about and/or to do in the Jupiter area?

I’m an avid cigar collector so I spend a fair amount of time at Smoke Inn here in Tequesta. Having a background in the restaurant industry my wife and I enjoy trying all the restaurants in town.

How did you get into this type of career?

I’ve been into the car and truck scene since high school, and after high school I attended a technical school but dropped out because was far to slow-paced for me. I got my foot in the custom automotive retail business while living in Naples and working in the corporate retail sales world. While checking in on a store I managed I came across a small family-owned custom truck shop that opened in town. I was hired to operate the retail side of the business and the rest is history in the making, still today.

Favorite thing about and/or to do in the Jupiter area?

Healing Through Horses: The Story of HALT and Its Incredible Impact

Photos provided Ashley Colwell with Gunner, a rescued Paint Quarter Horse at HALT (Horse Assisted Learning and Therapy.)

Imagine spending your life being passed from home to home, neglected, forgotten, and without consistent care. That was the story of Gunner, a 26-year-old Paint Quarter Horse rescued from Central Florida. His previous owner used him for endless pony rides, forcing him to walk in tight, repetitive circles day after day. When Ashley Colwell found Gunner five years ago, he was dehydrated, suffering from glass embedded in his hooves, and struggling to walk properly. It took months of care and patience to retrain him to move naturally — a true testament to resilience and hope.

Ashley Colwell’s life has been shaped by two major passions: helping others and working with horses. As a licensed Speech and Language Pathologist, she dedicated her career to children before founding HALT (Horse Assisted Learning and Therapy) in 2022. HALT’s mission is to provide educational opportunities and therapy services that promote improved function, independence, and personal growth, using the incredible connection between humans and horses. The organi-

zation offers speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy for children and adults facing trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, addiction, and a range of mental health challenges.

Equine therapy has proven deeply beneficial thanks to the unique nature of horses: they are sensitive, intuitive, and nonjudgmental. Horses can pick up on emotional cues, offering emotional healing, trust-building, and confidence development in a way few other therapies can. Beyond emotional support, equine therapy aids physical healing by improving balance, coordination, muscle strength, and fine motor skills, while also reducing stress and anxiety.

HALT also offers a program specifically for veterans, which has been especially powerful for individuals dealing with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, depression, and physical injuries. The calming presence of horses helps veterans develop emotional regulation skills that translate into everyday life. Building trust with a horse often becomes a profound first step in rebuilding trust in others, something many combat veterans strug-

charity spotlight

gle with. Caring for horses also gives veterans a renewed sense of purpose, routine, and tangible progress in a safe, supportive environment.

Ashley and her team also work daily with autistic children and have found equine therapy to be remarkably effective. The sensory experiences involved, the movement, textures, sounds, and smells of a horse all provide calming, therapeutic input. This environment encourages improvements in verbal and nonverbal communication, such as spontaneous speech, eye contact, and expressive language. Horses foster independence, empathy, and emotional understanding, offering autistic children a rare and powerful opportunity to connect without the pressures of traditional social interactions.

Among HALT’s beloved horses is Thunder (“Beauty in the Storm”), a playful 7-8-year-old Cremello Quarter Horse. Described by Ashley as a “big goofball,” Thunder loves people, attention, and especially treats like bananas. His solid, creamy coat makes him a favorite canvas for the Palm Beach Autism Club children, who enjoy painting on him during sessions. Incredibly, Thunder once detected an oncoming seizure in a veteran, a testament to horses’ extraordinary sensitivity to changes in human heartbeats and emotions.

Another key member of the barn is Sequoia (Powerful and Courageous Spirit), a 26-year-old Paint Quarter Horse. Sequoia is known for her leadership, alertness, and deep intuition. Gentle yet strong, she’s a comforting presence for all who visit the farm, with a particular love

for molasses chews and apple treats.

HALT’s team includes an Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, a Licensed Mental Health Therapist, an Equine Therapist, a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, and a dedicated network of volunteers — including veterans who have completed the program and now return to give back and maintain their bonds with the horses.

“Our greatest challenge is securing the resources needed to support and grow our organization,” Ashley shares. “Caring for the horses and maintaining the facility is costly, and we are committed to offering scholarships for those who cannot afford therapy services.”

If you would like to support HALT through donations or volunteering, you can contact Ashley Colwell at jupiterfarmshalt@gmail.com and visit their website at halt2help.com.

The annual Hoof It For HALT 5K will be held on September 27 at 7 a.m. at Riverbend Park in Jupiter Farms. If you would like to attend or volunteer, more information can be found on the website.

Lori Griffith is the Founder and Executive Director of Chasin A Dream Foundation, serving families in Palm Beach, Martin, and St. Lucie counties.. You can reach her at lori@chasinadream. org. Follow Chasin A Dream Foundation on social media.

Breaking the Stigma that Boys Don’t Cry

Dr. Carri Lager

Little boys have traditionally been taught that they need to be “strong” and unemotional to be successful in life. This unrealistic, old-fashioned perspective has contributed to a barrier in men seeking mental health treatment, creating a psychological crisis for men today. In the United States, men experience higher rates of suicide, substance use disorders, and ADHD compared to women. Each year, 6 million men suffer from depression and 1 in 10 men suffer from an anxiety disorder, yet men are significantly less likely to seek help for these debilitating conditions than women. This is largely due to stigma and societal expectations around masculinity. Suffering in silence can lead to a negative self-image, unhealthy relationships, less resiliency when facing life’s inevitable challenges, and even long-term medical issues.

Therapy can offer a private, non-judgmental space for men to address a range of presenting concerns. Men seek therapy for a variety of reasons, here are some common areas: depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship or parenting issues, identifying and breaking generational patterns, life transitions, and self-confidence. Engaging in therapy can help men identify what their needs are, manage stress, explore their emotions, focus on creating healthy work/life balance, and develop stronger coping mechanisms. It can also equip men with skills to set boundaries, communicate effectively, and prioritize self-care. Therapy can help men recognize and address the signs of burnout, such as feel-

ing exhausted, detached from work, or experiencing decreased job satisfaction. Finally, chronic, untreated stress and/or anxiety can contribute to some serious health issues, such as a weakened immune system, chronic pain, headaches, digestive problems, sleep disturbances, high blood pressure, and even heart disease.

Men’s mental health is important because it directly impacts their overall well-being, relationships, and quality of life. It also affects the broader community, as men play significant roles in families and society.

Addressing men’s mental health can lead to improved relationships, healthier lifestyles, and a more supportive environment for everyone. Traditional gender roles and expectations can contribute to men’s reluctance to seek help with mental health issues. By dismantling these stereotypes and fostering a culture of open communication and greater acceptance, we can create a space where men can feel comfortable seeking help. Prioritizing and normalizing men seeking therapy is an important step towards a more balanced society where boys and men can openly lean on others for valid and much needed support.

Swim with Sharks Right off Jupiter’s Coast to Appreciate these Misunderstood Creatures

tiger shark goes after bait released by a guide on a recent Emerald Charters Shark Eco Tour.

We are blessed. The warm Gulfstream waters come closer to Jupiter than anywhere else. This massive ecological highway brings an abundance of underwater life to our waters. Turtles, whales, and yes, sharks!

With the warm water and good visibility, divers and snorkelers come from around the world to meet and greet our sharks. This pelagic population can be witnessed only a few miles and a short boat ride out of the Jupiter Inlet. Shark dive tours are available and designed to allow divers to look at sharks in their natural environment. Divers get an opportunity to dispel the myths of aggressive sharks attacking people.

Unfortunately, most of our knowledge and misunderstanding of sharks comes from their portrayal in the movie Jaws. Sharks are not the bad guys as portrayed. They are shy and really don’t want much to do with people. You don’t survive this long as a species by taking chances. They wander about and look for fish that “didn’t feel like going to school today” and eat them. Sharks are an integral part of our ecosystem. They eat

the weak or diseased fish. This ensures the growth of strong, healthy fish for the future. Once, sharks were hunted and killed to a nearly endangered category. They required protection by a variety of agencies. Thanks to population control and ceaseless public education, the population is beginning to come back and the oceans are healthier.

One dive charter operation, Emerald Charters, has been doing Shark Eco Tours in Jupiter for more than 20 years. Scuba divers can see as many as eight species of sharks within a couple dives. Tiger, hammerhead, bulls and lemons are usually around and seem to be the favorites. Divers board the Emerald and are taken to various sites that the captain has scoped out for shark activity. Once on site, the guide will give a safety briefing so divers know what to expect. The divers are escorted underwater where the guide will attract sharks to the group. Divers are often amazed at the peaceful, slow reaction the sharks have towards them. At first, sharks are very wary and cautious. After a few minutes the sharks and divers mingle and the divers get to see the sharks

A

up close and personal. It’s a thrilling adventure and creates memories for a lifetime. Cameras are encouraged. Sharks are very photogenic!

Not a diver? Not a problem. Several boats in Jupiter take snorkelers and free divers out to swim with sharks. In this situation, the sharks are attracted to the surface as the boat drifts with the gentle current. Snorkelers are allowed to exit the boat on a safety line and observe the sharks. Again, a guide is provided to attract the sharks and keep everyone safe in the water. No certification is required. It is required that you should be a “decent”

swimmer. These snorkel boats typically include the gear needed to do these trips. If the kids are down from college and get bored, you can easily arrange a snorkel tour for them and their buds. They get a little exercise and some sun. You get a little break from the hubbub and it’s all they will be talking about.

If you are a local, give it a try. There must be a reason people spend thousands to travel here to dive with these magnificent creatures. Sea you soon!

Meet Two Local Chefs Who Earned Nods From the Prestigious Michelin Guide

Now that the prestigious Michelin Guide has recognized Palm Beach County restaurants, the North County can boast two of the guide’s 10 notables.

Tim Lipman of Coolinary, in the Donald Ross Village plaza, opened his daily-menu, farm-to-table concept more than a decade ago with his spouse, Jennifer.

It won a “Recommended” mention in Michellin, indicating a restaurant worthy of a trip, even if it didn’t meet the parameters for a star in their rating system.

“All these years of hard work paid off,” Lipman said. “We were trying to do something new here. So this feels good to be recognized for it.”

Jupiter dining was taking a new path when he decided on a restaurant of his own, and he was at a forefront.

“When we started out 13 years ago, Jen and I did it all ourselves, out of our own pockets.” It took mettle to open a new concept back then, he said, and investors were wary.

“We ended up funding the whole thing.”

For the first few years, he said, “We worked open to close, every day we were open,” he said.

Gradually, the community embraced his daily farm-to-table menu and boutique wine program.

“We’re clearly making people happy,” he said.

Chasing awards isn’t for him, however.

“We always try to do better every day. There’s always room to improve.

“It would be great, though I’m not sure we qualify for a Bib Gourmand. It’s great that our work was acknowledged. I told my guys to accept the pat on the back. Have fun. They’ve worked hard right along with us.”

He’s allowed himself to take a step back these days, however, in order

Coolinary owner and chef Tim Lipman, with son Ollie, at the restaurant on Donald Ross Road. Of the Michelin nod, he says, ‘It’s great that our work was acknowledged. I told my guys to accept the pat on the back. Have fun.’

to enjoy family life. His son Ollie is 3½ , and Lipman said he wants to enjoy these days of discovery.

“We love our restaurant family,” he said. “Some of them have been with us from Day 1. But we have a family of our own now. Watching our son grow is the best.”

The family travels together now, too. “We don’t go anywhere without him. If Ollie’s not invited, we don’t go. I don’t want to leave him. Every moment is crucial at this stage of his life; they are moments I can’t get

back. We worked so hard for him, I want to enjoy this.”

Lipman will be cooking at food and wine events in the Hamptons, Aspen and other places over the summer as the dining slows down here.

New hours for summer mean Coolinary, the 100-seat restaurant with bar, called the Parched Pig, will close at lunch. A new menu started mid-May.

“We go with brighter flavors and lighter foods. More white wines to complement the dishes,” he said.

Diners can look for foods such as a swordfish in a Romesco sauce along with corn cream, and sautéed spinach. Other ingredients are Aioli Bakery’s rye bread, smoked peppers and carrots.

“The caraway and smoked peppers and carrots give it a distinct flavor profile,” Lipman said. It’s served with a cool salad of fava beans, shaved aparagus, red onion, radish, pickled herbs and olive oil.

A wahoo ceviche, a Thai red curry, a lamb taco with harrissa and eggplant jam, and a Latin-inspired American wagyu steak also are on the new menu.

The steak is served with a fried yucca fritter and a vegetable escabeche with a charred onion crema.

Many of his ingredients are from favorite local sources he’s used since he opened.

“We still use Cod and Capers Seafood, and get vegetables and tomatoes from Diane (Cordeau) at Kai Kai Farm. We have a tomato salad from her tomatoes with tahini lime vinaigrette — really great.”

Asked about opening a second restaurant, he was quick to quash the idea.

“Maybe I’ll think about it when Ollie starts school. Right now, I’m just enjoying our success with this one. We worked so hard for it. We’ve just gotten to the point we can relax a little.”

Coolinary, 4580 Donald Ross Road, Palm Beach Gardens. Open Monday-Saturday 4-10 p.m. (Summer hours).

Building an Indian dining empire

At Stage in Palm Beach Gardens on PGA Boulevard, and Ela Curry Kitchen and Cocktails in the Donald Ross Village Plaza, chef/owner Pushkar Marathe invites diners to try his “home” cooking from India with modern twists.

Stage, pronounced STAAHJ, is the more formal of the two restaurants, with Ela being the street food and more casual concept.

Though Stage won the “recommended restaurant” label in the Mi-

in the kitchen

chelin Guide, Marathe feels that Ela may also have won if the parameters for consideration were different.

“We really are sincerely trying to give the best we can,” he said.

He’s happy for the recognition, he said, though awards are not why he cooks. He would like a star, but said the recognition helps.

“I’m very content, though and happy for our county and excited for all our team.”

Marathe forged a path through myriad cuisines while training. He started in culinary schools learning French classical cuisine.

“In culinary school, that’s what you’re taught. When I worked in Switzerland, my executive chef was French. One of my sous chefs was Italian. I learned French and Italian cooking there.”

He learned from everyone in all kitchens with different backgrounds, he said.

He cooked his way around Dubai and Quatar, where much of the workforce is “all ex-pats — people from all around Asia. Filipinos, Chinese, Korean, European.”

He came to the U.S. in 2007 on a training visa, and worked with notables such as Jeremy Ford and Nivan

Patel – now award winning chefs on their own.

In South Florida, stints in Fort Lauderdale with acclaimed chefs Max Dean and Paula deSilva forwarded his lessons in tropical flavors and seafood from the Caribbean.

A job in California introduced him to his wife, Nicole, and they eventually returned to South Florida to be with her family, and raise a family of their own.

“I always wanted to have my own restaurants,” he said. “But originally I wanted a chef-driven restaurant, and never wanted to focus on Indian cultural cuisine. I always wanted to focus on global foods.”

Marathe opened Stage in 2020 –the year the pandemic shut down restaurants. The restaurant also was hit by one of the tornadoes that swept through Palm Beach County in October 2024.

“We can say we survived Covid and a tornado,” he said, laughing.

He opened Ela Curry Kitchen in 2022, named for cardamom – his favorite spice. Diners rave over the street food angle he’s presenting.

Now, he said, “I’m a chef and a businessman. My job is mentoring and motivating the next generation

of cooks.”

The Michellin Guide review is a good marketing tool, he said. As for reaching for a coveted star, he said, “I will work for it, but I always tell people we’re our own competition.”

He said he strives for the best every day, and was surprised he wasn’t named for Ela Curry Kitchen. “Everything we do here is from scratch...In all honesty, I thought it would be recognized.

The menus reflect the flavor-filled street foods of India at Ela, with dishes such as a dosa — a crepe made from fermented lentils and rice, stuffed with a sambar, or curried stew. The popular butter chicken is there, along with paneers, curries, and chutneys to accompany hand-helds. All are made in-house.

The exotic cocktail lists are available at the bar’s unique “reverse happy hour” Sunday to Thursday, 5-9 p.m.

Marathe recently opened a second Stage in Boca Raton, and he’s currently opening a second Ela location at CityPlace in West Palm Beach. Next door to it will be the provisions and prepared foods market, Mango Mercado.

“We have other plans,” he said, but he’s not ready to share those yet. “It will be a new concept for us.”

As he builds his business, he remains true to his origins.

“Here is the beauty of it all: When I started out cooking, I really started cooking to see the joy in people’s faces. I live for it.”

As others, Marathe is changing the menu for summer, and putting on specials, such as a fresh lychee salad, and a mango lassi with mango salad. He’ll close his restaurants for lunch service until next fall; it’s open daily for dinner, 5-9 p.m. Stage, 2000 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens. Ela Curry Kitchen, 4650 Donald Ross Road, Palm Beach Gardens. Both open daily for dinner (summer hours) 5-9 p.m.

Summer is Boating Time: Make Sure to Insure Your Precious Vessel

When July rolls around in Florida, it transforms into a haven for boating aficionados. Picture yourself basking in the sun while effortlessly cruising across crystal-clear waters, whether you’re aboard a nimble 21-foot flats boat or an opulent 60-foot Viking yacht. However, with such extravagant toys comes the crucial need for protection.

Enter watercraft insurance, your ultimate safeguard against a host of potential challenges. This vital coverage shields your investment from the ravages of nature, like hurricanes, as well as unforeseen incidents involving towing and trailer mishaps. In Florida’s unpredictable climate, securing marine insurance is more than just prudent; it’s essential. It provides financial relief for damages incurred during storms, or if you unintentionally collide with a hidden reef while navigating the stunning Bahamian waters.

But wait, the protection doesn’t end there. Trailers, which are often targets for theft, also require insurance to keep you secure from unwanted surprises.

Plus, your valuable equipment, such as those high-end deep drop reels, are protected against theft, ensuring your gear is safe.

And let’s not overlook the social aspect of boating! If an accident occurs and a guest gets injured, the liability coverage of your policy will protect your financial assets, allowing you to enjoy your time on the water without the worry of potential legal troubles.

So, as you gear up for an unforgettable boating experience this July, remember that safeguarding your cherished vessel with thorough insurance is just as crucial as the excitement of sailing itself! Embrace the adventure and create lasting memories, all while keeping your treasures secure on the open waters.

DV8: A Place for Car, Truck Owners Who Want to Take Their Rides to the Next Level

Outside the door of his shop, DV8 Motorsports, Cary Jones has parked his current ride. It’s black matte and sleek.

“It’s a 2024 C-8 Corvette; six months old. A good stress relief.”

For Jones, who’s been into muscle cars and trucks since he was a teen, just handling a car with a V-8 gas engine and close to 500 horsepower is calming.

“I like feeling the motor, hearing the sound of an engine turning over. Feeling it.”

He’s standing by a window full of forged aluminum rims in his shop where the sunlight streaming through their spoke patterns turns them into art.

They’re oversized — 18 to 20 inches.

“Big trucks. That’s what these rims are for. We put wheels on everything from golf carts — not many now — to F-250s,” he said.

Most wheel jobs also involve lifts. He said trucks can be lifted from 2 to 16 inches, or lowered, 2 to 5. For cars, it’s lowering only, from ½ inch to 2 inches.

“Even ½ inch can make a difference in the handling,” he said.

Enhancing both performance and appearance is what it’s all about here, where car enthusiasts can get their rides customized with rims to match paint, smart suspension lifts, or lowering, and gas and diesel performance parts. Computers tweak engines for optimum output, he said.

Jones handles orders for 25 to 30 vehicles a month, working in his eight-bay garage on the popular F-250s, Jeeps and Broncos. “The Broncos are now as popular as Jeeps,” he said.

He does work for dealerships, doing all the customizing their buyers require. “I do builds for Napleton Dodge — their Jeeps — Greico

Ford in Delray Beach, Schumacher Chevy GMC.”

Customers want high performance engines, fender flares, and rims to make them stand out from a road full of look-alikes. They pay $1,600 to $10,000 and up to get the custom look and sporty ride. The builds can take from one day to three months, depending on the parts needed and complexity of the work.

“The problem with today’s cars, everything looks the same. So everybody wants to individualize their car. They want to customize it. It makes it more exciting to drive.”

While most of his customers are older, there are young drivers coming in to get rims and maybe lifts.

“We have a lot of repeat customers. That’s a cool thing, to design things for the dad, then his kids come to us for their cars, and now, we’re seeing their kids.”

Jones, 46, has been changing up his cars since he was a teen. He’s from Vancouver, Canada, but has been in Florida since he was 15.

“I’ll never go back up north.”

He got interested in motorsports in high school, fixing up his own car, then his friends’.

ago on Dixie Highway in Lake Park, and moved to the current location in 2013. “I turned my passion into a business,” he said.

He’s been involved in racing and rallies around the state as well.

“I was drag racing stock, and road racing. I sponsored the drag races at Moroso Speedway.”

Jones also took his Mercedes Benz CL5 63 AMG, “the one that got away, “ on a road rally from the Keys to Orlando.

He eventually sold it, but it’s the one car he wishes he had again.

“It’s an amazing car. A four-door, with 724 horsepower and 820 pounds of torque. You could cruise at 185 and it was so smooth.”

Now, along with the Corvette, he has a 1970 Chevelle SS and a 1968 Lincoln Continental.

A land yacht?

“It’s a classic car — has the suicide doors. I’ve wanted one for 10 years and finally found the right one. It’s something you just get in and cruise. It’s a great date-night car.”

For trucks, he drives a 2023 F-250, a 2024 F-150 Raptor and a 2024 Ford Bronco Raptor.

“And I just bought a restored VW bus.” This was after a weekend at Barrett Jackson auction — a car lover’s dream.

“My girlfriend wanted one,” Jones said.

But don’t look for electric cars in his garage, and few come in the shop.

“We’ve done Cybertrucks and Hummers, but as cool as you make them, they’re still not cool,” he said, laughing.

And his fantasy car?

“One of the Lamborghini’s. A Revuelto, probably.”

But dropping $600,000 for a car isn’t in his game plan just now.

“I could do things like that when I was younger. Now that I have kids, it’s off the table.”

But his daughter, 9, plays a role in the business.

“She loves the Jeep ducks,” he said. Jeep owners frequently place rubber ducks on the windshields of

other Jeeps.

“It’s just a thing. So we designed our own duck with our logo and we put them out there,” he said. “It’s a great branding tool.”

The Special Bond Between Guys and their Dogs

About 20 years ago, a guy named Tom asked me to explain why he cried harder when his family dog passed than when his Mom passed.

“I explained how our dogs are always there for us, whether we come home late from work, don’t feel like playing that day, etc, and then I said it’s because they are nonjudgmental, and never ask us why we are wearing that tie, or mention that we forgot to take out the garbage.

“He’s not just a dog. He’s my shadow, my confidant, my silent strength on the days I can’t speak. He doesn’t need words to understand me—and that’s a rare kind of friendship.”

The bond between guys and their dogs is often rooted in loyalty, trust, and unspoken understanding. For many men, a dog becomes more than a pet— it’s a best friend, a protector, and a nonjudgmental companion. Dogs offer steadfast loyalty and affection, which can create a strong emotional connection, especially for men who may not easily express vulnerability in other relationships.

There’s also a shared sense of adventure—whether it’s hiking, road trips, or just hanging out in the backyard—that reinforces the camaraderie. In many cases, the dog becomes a steady presence through life changes, offering comfort, purpose, and even a sense of identity.

Summer Serenity: Exploring Jupiter’s Water Adventures Without the Crowds

While much of Florida heats up with summer vacationers, Jupiter enjoys a special kind of calm. Once the winter tourists clear out and before the back-to-school rush, the summer months become a best-kept secret for locals and savvy travelers. With fewer crowds and plenty of sunshine, it’s the perfect time to dive into the wide variety of water activities that make Jupiter a coastal paradise.

Paddleboarding is a favorite pastime for both beginners and experienced adventurers. Calm mornings on the Intracoastal Waterway or the Jupiter Inlet offer smooth conditions and crystal-clear views of manatees, rays, and sea turtles gliding beneath the surface. Stand-up paddleboarders can launch from spots like Sawfish Bay Park or Coral Cove and explore winding mangrove trails and quiet coves with plenty of room to roam.

For a more immersive experience, kayaking through the Loxahatchee River—one of Florida’s two federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers—is both peaceful and scenic. This time of year, you’ll often find yourself with the waterway to yourself, winding past lush vegetation, historic sites like Trapper Nelson’s homestead, and abundant birdlife.

Jupiter’s sandbars, such as the popular one near the

Jupiter Inlet, come alive during summer weekends, offering a social but laid-back vibe. Boaters and jet skiers gather for impromptu floating picnics, tossing anchor in the shallow turquoise waters. With fewer tourists around, locals can enjoy the space without the usual congestion—perfect for sunbathing, tossing a Frisbee, or letting the kids splash in knee-deep water.

Offshore, summer is peak season for fishing, and the open waters off Jupiter provide some of the best action on the Atlantic coast. Head out with a local charter and you might reel in mahi-mahi, wahoo, snapper, or even sailfish. Thanks to the proximity of the Gulf Stream, deep sea fishing is just a short ride from the inlet, and the calmer seas of summer make for ideal conditions.

Whether you’re paddling, exploring hidden river bends, anchoring on a sandbar, or casting a line into deep blue water, summer in Jupiter is a water-lover’s dream. With fewer people and more room to play, now’s the time to soak up everything this coastal gem has to offer.

Outdoor Kitchen Design Should Complement Your Home’s Style

In the Jupiter area, outdoor living is a way of life—and the most successful outdoor kitchens are those that thoughtfully complement the home’s existing style. These elegant patios are designed for seamless entertaining, combining function with aesthetic appeal. A well-planned layout often includes a fully equipped outdoor kitchen, a welcoming dining area, a cozy fireplace with a mounted television, and a built-in wet bar and beverage station for effortless hosting. Generous covered seating ensures year-round comfort, rain or shine.

The key to creating a cohesive and inviting space lies in the details. Materials for cabinetry, countertops, stonework, and the bar structure should echo the home’s architectural elements, creating visual harmony between indoors and out. A natural stone fireplace or a bar crafted from similar materials can mirror textures used on the home’s exterior, tying the entire design together.

Lighting plays a pivotal role in transforming the patio after sunset. Strategically placed fixtures offer both safe-

ty and ambiance. In these Jupiter patios, lighting is subtly integrated into hardscape features—glowing beneath stair treads, under countertop overhangs, and along coping edges. Beyond the built environment, landscape lighting enhances mature trees, lending drama and depth to the nighttime setting.

When thoughtfully designed, an outdoor kitchen becomes more than a cooking space—it’s a luxurious extension of the home. With the added convenience of a wet bar and beverage station, entertaining is elevated to a new level of ease and elegance, perfect for intimate evenings or lively gatherings under the stars.

Installing Hardwood Floors: A Rewarding, but Intricate Process for the DIY’er

Installing wood floors is a rewarding but intricate process that requires careful planning and execution. While it’s not a beginner-level DIY project, those with basic carpentry skills can successfully complete it with patience and the right tools. Essential equipment for the job includes a chop saw, table saw, and jig saw, which help ensure accurate cuts and a precise fit.

Starting in a smaller room, such as a bedroom, is advisable for gaining experience before tackling more complex areas with hallways and multiple doorways. Proper subfloor preparation is a crucial first step to ensure a smooth and level surface before the boards are laid down. Any imperfections in the subfloor can

affect both the final appearance and the durability of the flooring.

Once installation begins, staggered planks help create a natural and polished look. Keeping joints varied prevents a rigid pattern that might appear artificial. Careful attention to detail is required when making precise cuts around doorways and obstacles, ensuring a seamless and professional finish.

Although the process takes time and effort, the transformation achieved through installing wood floors makes it a worthwhile project. With careful planning and patience, the results can significantly enhance the beauty and functionality of a space.

June ushers in rugged heat, soggy afternoons, and sweat as a daily accessory—just in time to honor the men who raised us to tough it out. In Jupiter, no man embodied that more than Trapper Nelson.

Born Vincent Natulkiewicz, Trapper Nelson became known as the “Tarzan of the Loxahatchee River.” He moved from New Jersey to the Loxahatchee River in the 1930s seeking solitude and ironically, became a popular tourist attraction.

Early on, he sold animals to zoos and feathers to the plume trade. As environmental laws came about, he adapted and created a riverside zoo with native wildlife. Visitors arrived by tour boat from as far as Palm Beach to hear his stories, explore his homestead, and taste exotic meats. He used his earnings to buy land from local landowners and at tax acquisition sales during the Great Depression. Expanding his

land at a brisk pace, Trapper Nelson amassed over 1,000 acres by the time of his death in 1968.

Thanks to his fiercely protective spirit, most of the area remains untouched. The state of Florida ac-

quired his land and it is part of Jonathan Dickinson State Park. His homestead still stands and is only accessible by water. You can paddle to it from Riverbend Park or Jonathan Dickinson State Park’s concession. You can also arrive by personal boat on a high tide and dock at Trapper’s original boat house or via the State Park aboard the Loxahatchee Queen.

Today, the Loxahatchee River is one of only two National Wild and Scenic Rivers in Florida—an unlikely, yet perfect place for a paddle race, despite the gators. The annual Great Loxahatchee River Race, now in its 22nd year, honors Trapper Nelson’s tenacity. The race is organized by Jupiter local, Steve Prior, and is supported by the Florida Paddling Trails Association, a non-profit dedicated to supporting and enhancing Florida’s paddling trails. The race draws about 100 paddlers in mostly kayaks, outrigger canoes and a few paddleboards to endure the consistently brutally hot conditions each year.

A $20 registration includes park entrance and lunch, a rare bargain in the race world. Proceeds benefit the Loxahatchee River Center in Burt Reynolds Park East and operated by the Loxahatchee River District. The District manages water quality and wastewater in our area. The River Center connects residents to the river by providing eco-education through kayak tours, fishing camps, and interactive exhibits. It’s a cool, educational spot, especially in the summer when you want to escape the heat. It is free to visit, with a gift shop that supports the center’s mission.

Trapper Nelson showed us how to protect and thrive in nature and his legacy endures both in enjoyment of the park and in ongoing efforts to protect it from de-

velopment. Thanks to countless residents who have toughed out Florida’s last legislative session, the State Parks Preservation Act has passed both the Florida House and Senate and is awaiting signature from the governor as of this writing.

The return on time spent in nature is priceless, so get wild, get scenic, let’s paddle!

For over 15 years, Alex has immersed herself in the local paddling community as a guide, instructor, coach and local advocate. New paddlers are her specialty.

Strong for Life: A Sonographer’s Guide to Men’s Health in Jupiter

Living in Jupiter means living fully — out on the water, under the sun, and in the moment. But true health isn’t just about staying active — it’s about staying ahead of silent threats that could cut your adventures short.

As a sonographer for over 25 years, I’ve seen what hides beneath the surface: early heart disease, plaque in the arteries, aneurysms forming silently. These are the conditions that don’t always come with warnings — until it’s too late.

Men’s Health Month is a call to action: prioritize prevention, stay strong, and keep doing what you love for decades to come.

Your Health: The Real Power Play

An ultrasound screening is one of the smartest, simplest moves you can make. It’s quick, painless, and can catch life-threatening problems before they catch you — from your heart to your arteries to your abdominal aorta.

Your Stay-Strong Strategy:

•Get screened regularly: Preventative scans give you peace of mind — and real-time info.

•Move your body: Surf, golf, cycle, run the trails — just keep moving.

•Fuel up wisely: Fresh seafood, fruits, greens — the Jupiter lifestyle fuels a longer, stronger life.

•Monitor the big three: Blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar — know them, control them.

Superfood Spotlight: Power Up Your Plate with

Grilled Salmon with Avocado Salsa

Heart-healthy omega-3s from wild-caught salmon and potassium-packed avocados make this the perfect meal for strong arteries and a stronger future.

4.Serve with a side of fresh greens or quinoa.

Quick, fresh, loaded with heart-protective nutrients — and perfectly suited for a sunny Jupiter supper.

The Midlife Man Makeover: Strength, Stamina, and Sanity After 40

So, you’ve hit your 40s (or 50s), and things don’t feel like they used to. The energy’s lagging, the beer gut’s growing, and your sleep? Let’s say it’s more of a nap roulette.

You’re worried that life is passing you by too quickly, and you still have much to accomplish. You may even be questioning if this is the best you can get.

Welcome to midlife. But don’t panic—you don’t need a sports car, your freedom, or a younger girlfriend. You need a reset: one that starts with your strength, your stamina, and your sanity.

Strength is the new sexy

After 40, muscle mass in men starts to decline by up to 5%, which means strength training isn’t just about looking good; it’s about functioning well. It’s about feeling strong and capable, about carrying all the groceries in one trip. Start with bodyweight basics: pushups, squats, and farmer’s carries. Two to three sessions a week can shift your metabolism, posture, and confidence, making you feel more powerful and in control.

Stamina keeps you in the game

Cardio’s not dead—but it’s not the whole answer either. A balanced approach keeps your heart healthy, supports testosterone, and keeps "dad bod" at bay. Bonus points if you swap one happy hour for a sunrise or sunset beach walk. Remember, you live where others vacation. Jupiter’s got the perfect backdrop—use it!

Sanity is your superpower

Mental health isn’t just a women’s issue—it’s a human one and a crucial part of your midlife journey. Stress, burnout, and unspoken anxiety can sneak in quietly and wreck everything. But you’re not alone. Talk to someone. Set a new goal. Hire a coach or personal trainer. Journal. Breathe. Lift something heavy and sweat it out. Strength isn’t just physical—it’s the courage to say, “I need a reset,” and do something about it. Your mental health matters and Jupiter has a great support network. The midlife man plan: Here’s your local kickstart:

• Hit a Jupiter gym or group outdoor activity.

• Take your wife’s smoothie recipe and use it.

• Join a wellness event or group challenge.

• Lift heavy, laugh often, and don’t take yourself too seriously.

You don’t need a full-body makeover, a younger girlfriend, or a new boat. You don’t need to make drastic changes to your life. You need to pause, reset, and look within. You need one solid rep, an intentional walk, an honest conversation. Start there. Small, deliberate steps can lead to significant improvements; you’re not alone.

Hearing Aids Can Help Your Golf Game, Too

Did you know that hearing aids not only help you hear better but they can improve your golf game? That might seem odd but here are some facts based off clinical research that prove a correlation between hearing health and a stronger golf game.

Improved Focus

Golf is a sport that requires extra concentration and focus to play your best. Untreated hearing loss can affect your ability to focus because it requires more mental energy to process sounds. This can leave you feeling mentally fatigued, making it harder to focus on the task at hand, like sinking that next putt. After all, if hearing wasn’t so important for golfers, why do golf tournaments insist on silence while playing?

Improved Balance

For golfers, good balance is essential to maintaining your form as you move through the process of hitting the ball. Hearing loss can affect your balance by making you feel less oriented in your surroundings. Hearing aids can help correct this, making it easier to stay balanced and precise when swinging your golf club or walking the course.

Hear The Tone Of Your Strike

The sound your club makes when striking the ball can tell you a lot about the quality of your swing and whether or not you need to work on your technique. Without the ability to hear this, it can be difficult to improve the yards you could be adding to your next drive.

Sounds Of The Golf Course

While you might not think about it much, the reason for silence while playing is due to the need to hear the different elements on the course. If you have hearing loss you’ll miss out on these experiences and possible cues needed to play your best.

Better Communication

Golf might be an individual sport but it is most often enjoyed while playing with others. It is a great outdoor activity that lets you connect with others. If you struggle to hear, hearing aids can ensure that you don’t miss out on any of the conversation on the green or in the clubhouse. When you can hear people clearly you can communicate and collaborate effectively. Plus who wants to miss out on conversations?

Better Safety

Golf courses have some obstacles when it comes to staying safe. There are multiple golf carts, lawnmowers, and other equipment making noise on the green. If you have hearing loss you may not hear these sounds which can put you at risk of accidents and injuries. You might not hear a calf cart driving towards you or someone yelling “FORE!” Prescriptive hearing aids help you stay aware of your surroundings.

Redefining Strength: A Holistic Perspective on Men’s Health

Drs. Keith and Bella

June is Men’s Health Awareness Month, an opportunity to expand the conversation around what strength and resilience truly mean for today’s man. While conventional ideas of masculinity often emphasize endurance, productivity, and grit, modern integrative medicine encourages a more sustainable model of health, one that values recovery, balance, and proactive care.

At Agape Healing Arts, we support men in exploring wellness from a whole-body perspective. Whether you’re an athlete, a busy professional, or balancing work and family life, your body’s performance depends not just on exertion but on how well you recover and maintain equilibrium. Many men push through pain, ignore early signs of dysfunction, or rely on short-term fixes like supplements or overtraining. But true health begins with understanding how to work with your body, not against it.

Our approach blends traditional healing with modern therapeutic methods to support long-term vitality. Acupuncture, for instance, stimulates the body’s natural healing response, helping regulate stress, reduce inflammation, and improve circulation. Cupping therapy enhances lymphatic flow and eases muscle tension, while craniosacral therapy helps balance the nervous system and support structural alignment. These modalities not only relieve discomfort but improve energy, focus, and resilience.

We also incorporate internal martial arts like Tai Chi and Qi Gong, gentle yet powerful practices that increase flexibility, coordination, and proprioception. These movements are especially beneficial for men who enjoy sports like golf, tennis, or pickleball, offering a way to boost performance while

preventing injury. They also promote mental clarity and emotional stability, often overlooked aspects of men’s health.

Holistic wellness means going beyond muscles and joints, it includes cardiovascular health, digestion, sleep, and emotional well-being. Preventive therapies that nurture the nervous system and enhance physical awareness can shift the focus from symptom management to true optimization. When circulation is strong, posture is aligned, and stress is managed, the body naturally performs at its best.

There’s no one-size-fits-all strategy for health, but there is a path that values long-term function over quick fixes. Investing in bodywork, mindful movement,

and integrative therapies helps men stay active, grounded, and mentally clear, well into the later years of life.

Men’s Health Month is a chance to pause, listen, and make intentional choices for well-being. Because when your body moves well, you live well.

Drs. Keith and Bella, holistic physicians and owners of Agape Healing Arts, offer personalized integrative care focused on your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Lost and Found: How The Club at Lost Lake Went Private and Found a New Lease on Life

The dining room at The Club at Lost Lake has undergone a million-dollar renovation as part of the overall project to upgrade the facilities. Also on tap are course improvements, new practice facilities, and re-grassing the course.

On a spring morning, Richard Aycock made the turn at The Club at Lost Lake, looking like he could play 36 holes. The retiree said he was thrilled that his home course had gone from semi-private to fully private.

“I think it’s wonderful. They are going to make many improvements. I think the previous echelon was just burned out,” Aycock said. “They’ve already made major improvements to the clubhouse.”

The transformation started when the Hobe Sound Tom Fazio designed golf course was purchased in October 2023 by the family owned J & K Holdings, LLC. One of the new owner’s first moves was to lure out of retirement Bob Coman, who has earned the reputation as a golf course whisperer over the decades. Coman helped establish

Palm Beach Gardens’ PGA National Resort & Spa as a golf mecca from 1985-1995. After transforming The Boca Raton & Club’s golf experience from 1995-2005, he returned to PGA National in 2005 and landed the Honda Classic, a PGA Tour event that remains today - now the Cognizant Classic. Bob moved on to make the golf & club operations financially successful at The Fairmont Turnberry Isle - Miami in Aventura from 2008-2013. He then breathed life back into The Biltmore in Coral Gables (from 2013-2020), a National Historic Landmark Hotel and beloved municipal course, restoring the course to its original 1926 Donald Ross design. He returned to The Boca Raton Resort & Club from 2020, endured COVID and then retired. Now, Coman is back

in the game in Hobe Sound looking to work his magic at The Club at Lost Lake – neighboring some of the most exclusive golf clubs in the area, such as Apogee, The Grove XXIII, MacArthur, and Medalist.

Taking a golf course private can be hard – especially for neighborhood golfers who play a course three times a week. So first, Coman needed buy-in. “There’s always resistance to change, but then when people sit back and look, they go, ‘Well, my property value is going to increase because it is a private course, the quality and the maintenance of the golf course will improve and the entire community is going to be elevated because of the change,’” he said.

Coman said he wished he had bet the over on the number of semi-pri-

vate members who would convert to private members. “Everybody was predicting I won’t get anymore than 20 or 25 members out of the semi-private members to join. Well, I thought there would be at least 50,” Coman said.

The Club at Lost Lake got 76 former semi-private memberships to convert to private members at the $25,000 initial Joining Fee offer by September 30, 2024. Now the fee is $45,000, and there are 126 full golf memberships. It’s still the best private club value available. Coman says most golf memberships start at least $75,000 in the area.

The owner behind this transformation wants to keep in the background. He didn’t comment on this story, but Coman said ownership’s desire is simple, “He wants a club that he’s proud to bring his family and friends to,” he said.

And to do that, he plans to transform what was once known in 1993 as the Double Tree Country Club.

First, the golf facilities. Coman says there are no plans to mess with the original Fazio design. Part of the capital improvement plan is to re-grass the tees, the fairways, the greens, refurbish the bunkers and repair cart paths.

The practice facilities will be breathtaking to the golf enthusiast, in line with what courses – both private and public – are increasingly offering. The driving range will be redone with new drainage, target greens, laser leveled tees, 20 synthetic tee stations, and will be re-grassed. Coman is still mulling over whether to install Top Tracer technology that tracks the flight of the golf ball. The practice putting green is going to need its own zip code as the plans are to expand it to 25,000 square feet, stretching from the cart barn to the end of the clubhouse. The short-game area will be reinvented with five target greens created with bunkers for golfers’ practice pitching, chipping and sand game.

The clubhouse will also see significant upgrades. “We’ve done over a million dollars in renovations already,” Coman says, pointing to the newly renovated dining room. “The dining room was very dated and not appealing. Now we’ve modernized it and made it more welcoming and warm.”

The golf shop will be expanded and relocated. The patio will be extended to the putting green so people can sit outdoors while watching the golf activity around them. The plan is to integrate golf into the social atmosphere, as opposed to keeping them separate. “Many changes happen when a course goes private but none so much as how it creates a sense of ownership and community amongst the members,” Coman said. “When you pay money to join a club, you are vested and committed to making that club successful,” he said. “Members will support what they feel they’ve helped create.”

Superheroes in Sneakers: The Importance of Dad Time

In the epic tale of parenting, dads often bring something truly special to the story. Whether it’s an impromptu wrestling match before bedtime or a welltimed belly laugh that diffuses a meltdown, fathers add a unique spark to family life.

Research has confirmed what children have known all along: dad-time is prime-time. Fathers contribute to their children’s growth in meaningful ways, adding humor, adventure, and a healthy dose of unpredictability. These moments of connection aren’t just fun—they’re foundational.

Kids with involved fathers are shown to perform better academically, develop stronger social skills, and have higher self-esteem. A dad teaching his child to ride a bike isn’t just imparting balance; he’s building trust and resilience. When dads cheer at soccer games or show up for school plays, they’re planting seeds of confidence and security that will grow for a lifetime. And let’s not forget the hilarious life lessons dads impart. Ever hear a dad joke? Of course, you have. (What’s brown and sticky? A stick!) Those groan-worthy gems teach kids how to laugh at life and not take everything too seriously. Who else but Dad would remind you that

“life’s too short to match your socks?”

But father involvement isn’t just about the big milestones or perfectly staged family photos. It’s the little things—sharing pancakes on a Saturday morning, singing off-key in the car, or teaching the art of the perfect cannonball. It’s in these simple moments that dads teach their children how to navigate the world with kindness, curiosity, and courage.

So, to all the dads out there: Know that your presence is a superpower. Whether you’re flipping pancakes, assembling (and reassembling) IKEA furniture, or simply being there with a reassuring hug, you’re shaping the next generation in ways that no cape or mask ever could.

Fatherhood isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up. Because, in the eyes of your kids, you’re not just a dad—you’re their hero. And what’s more important than that?

Laying the Foundation: PGA (Posture, Grip, and Alignment) for Golf

In the pursuit of a consistent and powerful golf swing, many players understandably focus on the intricate mechanics of the takeaway, downswing, and follow-through. But neglecting the foundational elements of posture, grip, and alignment is akin to building a house on a shaky base. These three pillars are the bedrock upon which a repeatable and effective swing is built. Mastering these basics, while seemingly simple, can yield significant improvements in your ball striking and overall game.

Posture: Your Athletic Foundation

Think of your posture as your address position – the athletic stance you adopt before initiating your swing. A good posture promotes balance, allows for a full range of motion, and sets the stage for proper swing mechanics. Here’s how to establish a solid golfing posture:

1. Stand Tall, Then Bend: Begin by standing upright with your feet shoulder-width apart. Imagine a plumb line hanging from your ears, through your shoulders, hips, and ankles.

2. The Hip Hinge: Now, hinge forward from your hips, keeping your back relatively straight. Avoid rounding your shoulders or hunching over. This movement should feel

similar to preparing to sit in a chair.

3. Slight Knee Flex: Introduce a slight flex in your knees. This athletic stance allows you to engage your leg muscles for stability and power generation during the swing. Avoid excessive bending, which can restrict movement.

4. Maintain Spinal Angles: The goal is to maintain the natural curves of your spine. Your upper back should be relatively flat, and your lower back should have a slight inward curve. Avoid excessive arching or rounding.

5. Weight Distribution: Your weight should be balanced over the balls of your feet, allowing you to feel grounded and athletic. Avoid leaning too far forward onto your toes or back onto your heels.

6. Arms Hanging Naturally: Allow your arms to hang naturally from your shoulders. Your hands should be positioned comfortably in front of you, ready to grip the club. A good posture creates a stable and balanced platform, allowing your body to rotate efficiently and generate power without losing control.

Grip: Your Connection to the Club

Your grip is the crucial connection between you and the golf club. It dictates how you can control the clubface throughout the swing, ultimately influencing the direction

golf advice

and trajectory of your shots. While variations exist, the fundamentals of a good grip remain consistent:

1. Hand Placement: For a right-handed golfer, the left hand should be placed on the club rest. Position the club diagonally across the fingers of your left hand, starting from the base of your pinky finger and running towards the base of your index finger. Close your hand, and the club should rest comfortably in the heel pad of your palm.

2. Pressure Points: Apply moderate pressure primarily with the last three fingers of your left hand. Avoid gripping too tightly in your palms, which can restrict wrist hinge and reduce clubhead speed.

3. Right Hand Integration: The right hand should then grip the club below the left. There are three primary grip styles:

○ Overlap (Vardon): The pinky finger of the right hand overlaps the index finger of the left. This is a popular grip among many skilled players.

○ Interlock: The pinky finger of the right hand interlocks with the index finger of the left hand. This can be beneficial for players with smaller hands or those seeking a more connected feel.

○ Baseball (Ten-Finger): All ten fingers are on the club. This grip is often used by beginners or those with weaker hands.

4. “V” Alignment: Pay attention to the “V” formed by the thumb and index finger of both hands. Ideally, these “V’s” should point towards your right shoulder. This helps promote a neutral clubface at impact.

5. Consistent Pressure: Maintain consistent and moderate pressure throughout your grip. Tension can restrict your swing and lead to inconsistencies.

A proper grip allows you to control the clubface angle, generate power efficiently, and maintain a consistent feel throughout your swing.

Alignment: Seeing Your Intended Path

Alignment is the act of positioning your body and the clubface in relation to your target line. Proper alignment ensures that your swing is directed towards your intended goal. Here’s how to align yourself correctly:

1. Choose Your Target: First, clearly identify your target. This could be a specific point on the fairway, the pin, or the front edge of the green.

2. Clubface Alignment: Align the clubface so that the leading edge is perpendicular to your target line. Imagine a straight line extending from your target back to your ball. The clubface should be square to this line.

3. Body Alignment: Once the clubface is aligned, align your body parallel to the target line. This means your feet, hips, and shoulders should form a line parallel to the imaginary line extending from your target through your ball, but slightly to the left of the target (for a right-handed golfer). Think of standing on railroad tracks – the target line is one track, and your body is aligned with the other.

4. Ball Position: Your ball position will vary depending on the club you are using, but it should be consistent

within your stance. For example, with a driver, the ball is typically positioned over your left heel, while with shorter irons, it moves progressively towards the center of your stance.

5. Check and Double-Check: Before you swing, take a moment to visually confirm your alignment from behind the ball. Ensure your clubface is square to the target and your body is aligned parallel to the target line.

Incorrect alignment is a common cause of errant shots. Even a perfectly executed swing will send the ball off target if you are not aligned correctly from the start.

It’s crucial to understand that posture, grip, and alignment are not independent elements. They are interconnected and influence each other. A poor posture can make it difficult to achieve a proper grip, and incorrect alignment can lead to compensations in your swing mechanics.

By diligently focusing on mastering these three fundamental basics, you will establish a solid foundation for a more consistent, powerful, and accurate golf swing. Take the time to practice and ingrain these elements into your pre-shot routine – it’s an investment that will pay dividends on the course.

Out of the Group Chat, Into the Trip: Why Your Guys’ Getaway Needs a Travel Advisor

Planning any trip is exciting, but planning one with your best guy friends? Even better. When the crew is finally ready to take the trip out of the group chat, your next move should be calling a travel advisor. Sure, your friends may think they’ve got it handled with a group text and a shared spreadsheet, but bringing in a travel pro can make the whole experience seamless and unforgettable. Whether you’re heading to a new city, chasing a bucket-list golf course, or deep-sea fishing off a new coast, a travel advisor takes your trip to the next level.

1. An Experience You Can’t Google

Some of the best experiences aren’t online, and if they are, they’re often sold out or not set up for groups. A travel advisor uses industry connections to lock in hard-to-get tee times, VIP seats at major games, or a private charter that guarantees a full cooler. If your group is after something exclusive, a travel advisor makes it happen and makes it memorable.

2.

No One Has to Be the Leader

Planning usually falls on one friend’s shoulders, and that can get old fast. Bringing in a travel advisor takes the pressure off the group. From flights and lodging to transfers and activities, everything is handled from door to door. All you have to do is show up with your bags packed. And if anything goes sideways, skip the hold

3. All Fun, No Friction

Letting a travel advisor handle the itinerary means your trip is built to match your group’s vibe, whether that’s all-out adventure, chill time, or a little of both. You could be teeing off in the morning, sampling local brews in the afternoon, and ending the day with a private chef cooking up your fresh catch. You get a personalized trip without the hassle, and none of the group has to lift a finger.

The next time your guys’ trip starts gaining traction in the group chat, call a travel advisor to turn the talk into action. With a pro in your corner, every guy gets what he wants, and you all get a trip worth talking about for years to come.

Cheers to the Gents Who Show Up

Running a business, I’ve seen how men’s reliability leaves a mark. It’s rarely loud, but it resonates. Picture the father at every soccer practice, rain or shine, cheering in slacks and tie from work. His kid might not say it, but that dad standing by the sideline watching, speaks volumes. Or the coworker who says, “I’ll handle it,” and does, every time. These acts strengthen teams, families, and communities.

What strikes me is how reliability often goes unnoticed. We all know a friend who checks in when life gets heavy: “You good?” That gesture carries weight. As a woman in business, I count many blessings on my fingers, among them, good men who keep their word, show up whether it’s easy or not, and turn collab-

oration into partnership.

Reliability means being there well. It’s the mentor who honors a months-old promise, the neighbor who checks your boat lines unasked. These gents don’t just show up; they lift up everyone around them.

Here’s to the men who get it done, day after day. Your consistency may go unsung, but it’s noticed. Cheers to the gents who show up. Keep being the ones we can count on.
