CWA to focus on the challenges of neurodiversity

A garden grotto

St Laurence O’Toole’s church parishioners officially opened their new Grotto to Our Lady and the rose garden in the front yard of the convent on Sunday. About 50 people attended as Father Paul Finucane blessed the grotto and garden. The idea of the new installation was conceived by Joe Palma, and with the help of Michael Bannister, Brad Bannister and Mark Martin, they carried out all the physical work to construct the grotto over the last few months. Local parishioners donated 30 rose bushes to add colour to the tranquil setting. ▪ Photo contributed 6 Barton St

The Cobar branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) held their monthly meeting on Saturday. As part of the meeting agenda, the group discussed the upcoming CWA Awareness Week. This year’s Awareness Week, to be held next month, will have a focus on increasing awareness around neurodiversity (which includes ADHD, autism, dyslexia and Tourette syndrome), and the challenges those with neurodiverse conditions face, particularly for women and children in rural and regional areas of NSW. To coincide with Awareness Week and the next meeting, the Cobar branch is planning a lunch and health talk. The Cobar CWA group meets on the second Saturday of each month and welcomes new members. Have you have been thinking about joining the largest women’s organisation in Australia? Would you like to advocate for country women and children through lobbying for change, help your local community, create a network of support, and build friendships with like-minded women? Then you’re welcome to go along and join Cobar CWA.—contributed

Chance of more rain this week

After the wet start to the working week (although the Bureau of Meteorology didn’t record the showers in their rain gauge), the Bureau is predicting we could have some more light rain tomorrow and Friday. (The only rainfall the Bureau did record in Cobar last week was 1mm on Saturday.) Last week’s weather was very spring-like with every day climbing to over 20 degrees, with 20 the recorded top temperature last Monday before it topped out at 24.2 on Sunday, which was our warmest day of the week. The nights were chilly, all under 10 degrees, with 3.3 degrees on Friday our coldest morning of the week. Today is the last of the run of warm days with a maximum of 20 before it drops to 18 tomorrow and 18 is also the expected top for Friday. Saturday’s daytime temperature predicted to reach a top of 17 and then after an expected frost on Sunday morning, it should warm up to a pleasant 20 degrees.
