Rotary donates to Home Stay

Mt Hope Mining receives its regulator permits

On behalf of the Rotary Club of Cobar, Rotarian Brytt Moore presented a donation of $1,000 to Dubbo’s Macquarie Home Stay managing director Rod Crowfoot at the Debutante Ball at the Services Club on Saturday night. Mr Crowfoot said the donation was very much appreciated and will be put to good use to ensure that patients and their families who use the accommodation facility when accessing medical care in Dubbo have a comfortable stay.

Following last week’s Mount Hope Mining target announcement, the company has now received all their regulatory approvals for their maiden drilling program.

Managing director and CEO Fergus Kiley advises the NSW Resources Regulator has approved their drill plans, covering both Reverse Circulation and Air Core drilling across all three of their prospects.

“Track clearing is complete, and drill pads are being constructed as we speak, all part of our final prep ahead of the contractor’s arrival in the coming weeks,” Mr Kiley told investors on Friday.

“At Mt Solitary, we’ll be aiming to convert our gold Exploration Target of 42.5 to 81.4 koz into a JORC-compliant resource.

“And for Black Hill and Mt Hope East, this will be their first ever drill testing, both are high-priority targets defined by strong geophysics and geochemistry.”

Mr Kiley said it was a major milestone for Mount Hope and a real turning point as they move from groundwork into live exploration.

He said the company’s next updates will be from the field.

New targets to be developed

Debutante Ball raises $9,107

West Cobar Metals is developing new drill targets at their Bulla Park Copper Antimony Project 110km west of Cobar.

The company has recently completed a mapping and reassessment program concentrating on identifying areas of higher-grade copper, antimony and silver.

West Cobar Metals’ managing director, Matt Szwedzicki said the new drill targets are based on a reinterpretation of existing drill data, high quality geophysical surveys and new surface mapping.

“Surface geological mapping and reevaluation work at our Bulla Park copper, antimony and silver project continues to show that only a small portion of the potential resource has been drilled to date. There are now clear targets where there is potential for higher grades and additional tonnages, potentially also at shallower depths,” Mr Szedzicki said.

Stolen vehicle Police are requesting assistance from anyone who may have information about a vehicle stolen from the Nymagee district last week.

Police received a report that a silver Ford F150 (with NSW registration plates BA98AU) was stolen from a property in Peisley Road, Nymagee sometime between Monday, July 14 and Wednesday July 16.

The vehicle was later recovered on Sunday July 20 in bushland off Pangee Road.

Anyone with any information in relation to the theft of this vehicle is urged to contact Cobar Police or Crime Stoppers.

This year’s Debutante Ball raised $9,107 for the Macquarie Home Stay facility in Dubbo. The money was raised through ticket sales, a raffle and donations. The LMJR Group are currently working on Cobar Shire Council’s director of corporate and community services, Kylie Smith said the planned work at LBV will create a new front entry and administration area for the retirement home.

“The works include essentially a new ramp for the front of the village, a ramp with the appropriate gradient,” Ms Smith said.

She said the new ramp will make access to the facility easier for residents and visitors with mobility issues and will also give improved access for ambulance staff needing to bring in stretchers.

Ms Smith said a reconfiguration of the administration offices and a nurses station will also be carried out as part of the planned upgrade.

Public Works will be managing the project for Council with work expected to commence mid to late August.

Ms Smith said the work should be completed within 14 weeks.

She said unavoidably there will be some interruptions for residents, staff and visitors.

“We’re focusing on mitigating the impact as much as we can because it is a residential facility and people are living there.

“There’s a limit to the amount and the scale of the work we can undertake,” Ms Smith explained.

Ms Smith said Council had taken on board their feedback and have modified the plans to try and meet everyone’s needs.

She said the aim was to brighten up the entrance and make it accessible for all and to also make the administration area more workable and user-friendly.

“Hopefully we get a really good result,” she said.

RAS scholarship Laura Harley from Nymagee, is one of nine students from the Orana region who has been admitted to the RAS Foundation’s (RASF) 2025 Rural Scholarship program.

Laura joins a cohort of 80 students from across rural and regional NSW and the ACT. The RAS Foundation Rural Scholarship program recognises students who are passionate about giving back to their communities through their chosen career, with the scholarship providing essential funding to do just that.

Laura has lived her whole life in Nymagee, with her parents and sisters.

Her family runs a sheep and cropping enterprise, and growing up in this environment has shaped her values and work ethic.

Laura has always been passionate about teaching.

She is now in her third year of a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary) at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga.

After university, she hopes to teach in a rural or remote community, believing these areas are often overlooked and wants to do her part in giving back.

RAS Foundation Manager Cecilia Logan said this year’s participants were outstanding ambassadors for rural and regional NSW and commended their commitment to building a better future for their community.

“Pursuing higher education is financially draining, particularly if students have to relocate to an urban area or participate in unpaid university placements, which restricts their ability to work,” Ms Logan said.

“Our Rural Scholarship program was created to help bridge that gap, ensuring students from rural and regional areas are getting the same opportunity as those living in city centres, and that those skills are going back into regional communities.”

Numbers down due to cold weather Cold weather kept a few members from attending the July meeting of the Cobar VIEW Club last week, but those who managed to brave the winter conditions were rewarded with a delicious, well presented meal and a catch-up with friends at the Empire.

General business matters were discussed at the meeting with the annual Oaks Day event preparations to be finalised at the August meeting. This is the major fundraiser for the club, which is hosted and supported by the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club.

Proceeds go to the Smith Family “Learning for Life” educational support program for disadvantaged children.

Guest speaker at last week’s meeting, Lillian Simpson, gave an interesting insight into her recent holiday in Thailand, where the brief was to “rest, relax and enjoy exotic food and signature drinks”.

A plethora of photographs supported Lillian’s detailed description of temples with life sized stone figures including the Big Buddha, various traditional buildings and the never ending stone steps! She toured honey and cashew nut factories and walked around Old Phuket Town. Lillian spoke about how elephants are revered in Thailand and said they were a feature of “Fantasia”, a show where a story of young love was interwoven with performing trapeze artists, traditional dance, music and colourful costumes.

Everyone enjoyed Lillian’s holiday!

Little League Stars are Roosters First Graders of the future The Cobar Roosters Under 10s took on Narromine in their Round 9 Dubbo & District Junior Rugby League match on Saturday in Narromine.

It was an uncontested game with Jason Thou Cleary, who completely dominated the match, earning the Roosters Coaches Award while Ashton Hyland collected the Sportsmanship Award.

The Roosters Under 11s game against Narromine was also uncontested with tries recorded

by Cooper Trudgett (2), Keelan Atuau (2), Josh Gillette and Billy Tiffen.

Billy earned the Coaches Award and Zalyn Manning was named the team’s Players’ Player.

Cobar’s Under 16s had to forfeit their Round 9 match with Dubbo Macquarie in Dubbo while the Roosters Under 12s had a bye this round.

In Sunday’s Mini League games at Tom Knight Memorial Oval, Maggie Lancaster and Beau Medlin earned the Little League Stars awards.

The Under 6s awards went to Ezra Bunting, who recorded his first try this season and to Hunter Patterson, who made a fantastic tag.

In the Under 8s game, Jason Doherty, Colt Evans, Corey Martin and Nixon Shields earned the Coaches Awards.
