Agarden grotto CWA to focus on the challenges of neurodiversity
from TCW 160823
The Cobar branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) held their monthly meeting on Saturday.
As part of the meeting agenda, the group discussed the upcoming CWA Awareness Week.
This year’s Awareness Week, to be held next month, will have a focus on increasing awareness around neurodiversity (which includes ADHD, autism, dyslexia and Tourette syndrome), and the challenges those with neurodiverse conditions face, particularly for women and children in rural and regional areas of NSW.
To coincide with Awareness Week and the next meeting, the Cobar branch is planning a lunch and health talk.
The Cobar CWA group meets on the second Saturday of each month and welcomes new members.
Have you have been thinking about joining the largest women’s organisation in Australia?

Would you like to advocate for country women and children through lobbying for change, help your local community, create a network of support, and build friendships with like-minded women?
Then you’re welcome to go along and join Cobar CWA. contributed
Chance of more rain this week
After the wet start to the working week (although the Bureau of Meteorology didn’t record the showers in their rain gauge), the Bureau is predicting we could have some more light rain tomorrow and Friday.
(The only rainfall the Bureau did record in Cobar last week was 1mm on Saturday.)
Last week’s weather was very spring-like with every day climbing to over 20 degrees, with 20 the recorded top temperature last Monday before it topped out at 24.2 on Sunday, which was our warmest day of the week.
The nights were chilly, all under 10 degrees, with 3.3 degrees on Friday our coldest morning of the week.
Today is the last of the run of warm days with a maximum of 20 before it drops to 18 tomorrow and 18 is also the expected top for Friday.
Saturday’s daytime temperature predicted to reach a top of 17 and then after an expected frost on Sunday morning, it should warm up to a pleasant 20 degrees.
Some old familiar faces were back in town on Saturday night to help Stuart Wharton (at centre with wife Sherrin) celebrate his 60th birthday at the Cobar Bowling & Golf Club including Pamela and Garrey Peebles (Charters Towers), Samantha Oliver Sherriff (Singleton), Kylie Whitla (Orange) and Peter and Mandy Prince (Toowoomba).

• The Matildas Australian Soccer team has a Cobar connection. Their hero goalie, Mackenzie Arnold’s grandmother was Cobarborn. Mackenzie is a great niece to Terry and Ken Dunne who are super-proud of her and the team. Mackenzie’s Cobar cousins have been following the team’s progress and will be cheering even louder tonight in their World Cup semi final game against England.
• Cobar Public School has welcomed a new teacher with Stephen MacDougal recently swapping his city life in Bankstown West for Cobar’s red dirt. CPS assistant principal Silvana Lennon said it’s been a while since the school had a teacher take up a permanent transfer from the coast. “In the midst of a teacher shortage, it’s heartwarming to have people seeking out a life in Cobar,” Silvana said.
• There were a few Cobar runners (and former Cobar residents) lined up in Sydney’s Hyde Park on Sunday morning for this year’s City2Surf 14km run and thankfully Bethany Smith, Tom Summerhayes, Jay Egan, Alistair Travis, Todd Fugar, Matt
McBride and Scott Smith all appeared to be smiling in their finish line pics at Bondi.
• Sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Lance ‘Tiger’ McBride, Ida ‘Pat’ Atkinson and Val Gillett who have recently passed away.

Top five finally sorted with Cobar finishing third
It has taken the full extent of the 14 competition rounds of the 2023 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League competition to get the final composition and finishing order of the top five but it was finally decided on Saturday.
Cobar’s three teams, the Roosters First Graders, the Roosterettes League Tag team and the Roosters Reggies Reserve Grade side, have all finished third in their respective competitions.
The First Graders took on the undefeated Gulgong Bull Terriers on Saturday at Gulgong.
Gulgong retained the Boronia Cup and their unbeaten status when they got over the top of the Roosters with a 36 to 24 win.
Tries for Cobar were scored by Ash Davies, Ben Griffiths, Thomas Plater and Zane Taylor with Perfect Plater converting all four tries.
Gulgong’s win earns them a week off before they begin their finals journey playing in the major semi final at home next week.
It could be that they will come up against the Roosters once again, if the Roosters can get over the top of the Dunedoo Swans, who finished second, in this Saturday’s qualifying semi final that will be played on Dunedoo’s home turf, which will present the Roosters with their fifth consecutive road trip!
The previous meetings between the Cobar and Dunedoo sides saw the Roosters score a convincing 42-16 win in Round 3 at Cobar, and then the return match at Dunedoo resulted in a 20-all draw.

The Roosters will have all three grades at Dunedoo this Saturday for the qualifying semis with their Reserve Grade to play Coonabarabran and the Roosterettes meet Narromine in their League Tag game.
