What a long, hot, dry summer.

I know that we had fewer days over 100 than we are accustomed to, but dang, it was brutal and felt like it went on forever this year.

Maybe I’m getting older, or maybe it really is getting hotter.

I’m not sure…..probably both!! But cooler weather is upon us, and soon the crisp nights will lend their way to chilly mornings, and those fall days are the best. Who doesn’t love the idea of a fall afternoon, trying to get off work early and grabbing your kiddo out of school to make an evening hunt?

Or Friday afternoons in the fall, parking your car and walking up to the stadium and hearing the band and the drums as the High School Football game is getting ready to start?

Yessir, Fall is the best, and boy do we need it. We need some relief, and cooler weather just seems to put everyone and everything in a better mood. Temperatures have been so hot and bothered this summer and here’s hoping Fall can take it all down a notch and provide some much needed relief.

This fall we also have a chance to head to the polls and look at new ideas and vote for those who we believe line up with our values and hopes for our families and our communities. There is a lot riding on this election. I know we say that of all of them.

But this year, there really is big choices that we as Texans and Americans are going to have to make as far as the direction of our State and our Country. There is too much riding on this one folks. You can’t sit it out. We have big, big issues facing our Nation, and we need to elect serious people to help us address them and who will create the pathway forward. Educate yourself on the issues and vote for the candidates you feel line up with your values. I don’t care if your beliefs make you line up with the Elephants or the Donkeys, just make sure that you line up to vote. It’s your civic duty to do so, and it’s your communities, state and country depending on you to do it.

Finally, let’s be kind to each other no matter what the outcome is.

The candidates might have forgotten what it means to be classy, but let’s show them that as Texans, we haven’t!

God Bless,

Dave

NEVADA GRASSIE THE ART OF THE HUNT

USAF Veteran Nevada Grassie is a master artist with an innate ability to transform animal skulls, bones, and wood into extraordinary works of art. His pieces are one-of-a-kind, a reflection of his deep passion for hunting and the great outdoors.

Born in Gallup, New Mexico, Nevada was raised on a ranch, where he worked, hunted, and embraced the western lifestyle. His artistic talent was shaped by his upbringing—his mother’s phenomenal saddle-making and leathersmithing skills, paired with his father’s cowboy heritage. From an early age, a sketch pad was never far from Nevada’s hands, allowing him to capture the beauty of nature through drawing and carving.

Nevada’s talents shine in his bone carving work, alongside custom wood gunstocks and eclectic pieces crafted from a variety of materials. He finds inspiration in the natural contours of each skull, often saying that the “lines” of a bone guide his creations. “When I get my hands and mind into a project, I can just sense the story in those BONZ,” he shares.

After serving two deployments over a decade as a Combat Engineer in the United States Air Force, Nevada returned to his roots—hunting, creating, and giving back. His efforts have raised over one million dollars for organizations like The Wild Sheep Foundation, Wounded Warriors, and others across the country.

A significant part of Nevada’s story is his connection with his canine companions. His first, SIX, was more than just a dog—she was his right hand and constant friend through life’s toughest moments. When SIX passed from cancer, her loss left a deep void, but in came Tarawa, a new champion for his heart. Tarawa now walks by his side, carrying the torch that SIX once held, and the bond between Nevada and Tarawa is strong, filled with anticipation for life’s next adventure.

As Nevada reflects on his journey, he shares, “I am grateful for the support and love from my family and friends.” This heartfelt sentiment underscores the importance of those who have

First Annual Capital Cares Sporting Clay Shoot: a Resounding Success

Capital Farm Credit recently hosted its inaugural Capital Cares Sporting Clay Shoot, an exciting event designed to strengthen connections with key broker partners while raising funds for charity. Winners of the shoot had the unique opportunity to select the charities for the donations, adding a special touch to the event.

Held on August 20th, the event was a notable success, raising $5,000 and that donation was divided between Swing It Foundation, Disabled Outdoorsmen, and Stomping Grounds.

A Promising Start

The exclusive, invitation-only event provided a focused and intimate experience for participants. Josh Hansen from Capital Farm Credit, who played a key role in organizing the shoot, was pleased with the turnout and enthusiastic response. “It was incredibly fun. We were all in and committed to making this event a success,” Hansen noted.

Looking Ahead

Encouraged by this year’s success, Hansen and his team are already gearing up for next year’s shoot, slated for August 19th, 2025. They plan to retain the event’s intimate feel by focusing on core clients and broker partners. “We’re working on a save-the-date for next year and are refining our approach to better cater to our target audience,” Hansen shared.

They are hopeful to increase the donation amount for next year’s event, aiming to build on this year’s achievements.

The Planning and Execution

The planning committee was dedicated to creating a memorable experience, starting with selecting sponsors aligned with the farm and ranch real estate industry, such as title companies, surveyors, and Land.com. “We wanted brokers as shooters, so we sought out service companies to sponsor each station,” Hansen explained.

Guided by the planning team’s vision, the team successfully blended a fun, engaging atmosphere with valuable networking opportunities while ensuring the charitable aspect of the event was a central focus.

Future Prospects

Capital Farm Credit aims to build on this year’s success by continuing to focus on relationshipbuilding and refining their event strategy. “Our marketing team is eager to elevate the event, but our core mission remains deepening relationships,” Hansen concluded.

As Capital Cares looks forward to next year’s event, anticipation is high for another successful sporting clay shoot that promises to blend enjoyment, connection, and industry collaboration.

If your business is interested in becoming a station sponsor for next year’s event, please contact Josh Hansen at Joshua.Hansen@CapitalFarmCredit.com.
