Sisterhood Report Submitted by: Sandy Stone, Sisterhood President
What does Sisterhood do? For starters we run the onegs52 weeks a year. We help with shivas as needed and run the Judaica shop which is managed by Sisterhood volunteers under the capable direction of Judi Spintman, Karen Cohn and Jean Nacht. We hope that the entire congregation will support the Judaica shop for holiday and gift giving events. The profits directly support temple projects. We plan various enlightening programs, host the Chanukah tea and the fantastic Women’s Seder, supply the food for the Purim Carnival and we host the book bag meetings once a month. This year the Temple Shalom Sisterhood celebrated 50 years of service with a Gala dinner celebration in January. The evening was a success and we look forward to another 50 years of Sisterhood service to Temple Shalom. Sisterhood serves the entire congregation by providing financial support, educational and social events along with helping to foster friendships and leadership opportunities to its members. The religious education of all the children of the temple continues to be the primary mission of sisterhood. During this past year we donated $15,000 in scholarships to ensure that every child can attend Hebrew and Sunday school and helped to fund the Washington D.C. R.A.C. trip to ensure that this wonderful project will continue. We were happy to present the 2015-2017 directory that ensures all of our temple family will be able to contact all members. As a reminder for those that have not picked up their new directories, they await you in the lobby of the Temple. We have presented many varied programs this season and have tried to engage women and men of all ages and interests. For our Sisterhood Shabbat we were proud to present the Women of Valor award to Debra Antzis. At the last sisterhood meeting we presented the Volunteer of the Year award to Carole Flegel. We are thrilled to add these two competent and dedicated women to our roster of award winners and their names will be proudly added to our plaques. During my tenure as president of the Sisterhood we have added collecting pop tops from your soda and soup cans. These items will be sent to the Ronald McDonald charities that will help all children. Please don’t forget to take these pop taps to Temple and we will make sure they go where they are needed.
