the city of Lamar would be 8.725 percent. It is estimated that the one percent sales tax would raise between $700 million and $800 million annually. Through a rather complicated formula, 90 percent of the revenue would go to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), five percent to cities, and five percent to counties.

Local Girl Scout Troop No. 10532 recently participated in the Girl Scout PAWS Project. The girls were able to gather supplies together to help the local animal shelter. They graciously gave 58 pounds of cat and dog food, newspapers and several rolls of paper towels to help in the care of the animals. Girl Scouts shown are Clara Buck, Rae Crossley, Zee Crossley, Jessica Baldridge and Erin Kremp. Lamar Animal Shelter Manager Sandy Alexander is shown accepting the donation from the troop. She would like to thank the troop for their donation and is always in need of paper towels, cat and dog food if you would like to help out, as these items are a large expense for the animal shelter and the City of Lamar.

First Street overpass project to begin week of April 21 LAMAR-Work is scheduled to begin the week of April 21 to build an overpass across I-49/U.S. 71, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Work crews of the prime contractor, APACMissouri of Columbia, will work primarily during the day, but some nighttime work may be required. During the project, drivers can expect lane closings at times on the interstate. Also, the east outer road will be closed for a time at 1st Street. The exact date of the closings will be announced later. The project has a construction cost of $2.3 million. Fifty percent of the cost will be borne by MoDOT, and the other 50 percent shared by Barton County, the cities of Lamar and Lamar Heights, and the Barton County Ambulance District. Completion date is targeted for November 14, but inclement weather and construction delays could alter that date.
