Macon hit the diamond hard this week with a Major League looking schedule. They leadoff with a Tuesday Night game at Westran. “We jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and eventually built a 7-1 lead going in to the bottom of the 6th. Westran would cut the lead to 7-5. Our guys responded by having a big 7th inning. We scored 6 runs on 6 hits to give us some insurance runs.” Brendan Watts went 2-3 with a double and 3 runs, Trae Adams 2-5 with a double, Craig Smith 3-4 with 3 singles, 3 RBI, 3 Runs, Kaleb Welch 3-5 with 3 singles, Jordan Bealmer 2-3 with a RBI double, Skyler Thomas 2-4 with 2 singles, Christian Thrasher was 2-4 with a RBI double and single and Jay Olinger with a pinch-hit 2 RBI single. “We really hit the ball well to start the game tonight. We then got a little too relaxed and took our foot off the gas pedal a bit. Once Westran cut our lead to 2 runs going in to the 7th we did a great job of bouncing right back and scoring six runs. We had 7 guys with multi-hit games. When we get that much offense we can be tough to beat. We now turn our focus on a conference game with a great Palmyra team on Tuesday night.” Coach Robuck Tuesday Night the focus did switch to the Panthers as the Tigers had them in the crosshairs. The Tigers took their first loss of the season. The trailed 2 to 6 going into the bottom of the 6th but came rushing back with 3 runs. It was not enough to overcome the Panther lead with the Tigers losing 5 to 6. Watts was 2-3 with a single, 2 RBI double, and a run, Craig Smith

2-4 with a RBI single and a double and Jordan Bealmer 2-3 with a double and a RBI single. “I liked what I saw from our team tonight. We competed hard against a really good team in Palmyra. After falling behind by 4 late in the game we battled back and had a chance to tie it in the 7th. Our kids showed a lot of heart tonight. They played well and so did we. These kind of games are what make baseball fun to be a part of. We would of liked to have won, but I think we learned a lot about what kind of team we are even in defeat tonight.” Thursday the Tigers returned home and pounded the New Bloomfield 10 to 0. In the 1st Inning Brendan singled to lead off the game. Trae Adams bunted him into scoring position and Collin Patrick drove him in with a RBI single. That would be the only run we would need. Brendan Watts went 5 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 5. “I liked our intensity tonight and how we got on the scoreboard early and often. We’ve struggled at times with getting early leads and getting too relaxed. That was not an issue tonight. Brendan pitched a great game and to have 12 hits in 5 innings is a great thing for our team. Our defense was solid and highlighted by a diving play at third by Collin Patrick.” Macon played the first of two games Saturday with an 8 to 2 victory over Kirksville. “In the first inning after a couple of 2 out singles by Collin Patrick and Craig Smith, Jordan Bealmer came to the plate. Jordan would fall behind the count early but foul off a couple of pitches. Jordan would end up hitting one over the left fielders head to score 2 runs and get us an early 2-0 lead. Once again our guys showed up with great intensity and focus. Our lineup really hit some balls hard and got some runs on the board early to support a great pitching performance by Brendan Watts. Brendan really hit his spots well and let his defense make the plays behind him. He was very efficient with his pitches. Craig came in and slammed the door the last 2 innings. Real happy with our effort in this one.” The Final game was a nail-biting 10 to 9 win over Hallsville. “This wasn’t a pretty game by any means. We had too many walks and mistakes on defense, but I liked how our guys kept competing hard and found a way to win even when we didn’t play our best. We had 4 guys pitch and 8 different guys get a hit for us. To pick up 4 wins against some tough competition this week was a great accomplishment for our team. Hopefully we can keep the momentum rolling in to next week.”
