The Schultzs were selected as the Lewis Missouri State Fair Farm Family by the Lewis County extension council and local Farm Bureau. The family includes daughters Stephanie, Jodie, and Julie. NECAC offers modular home program A new opportunity offered by the North East Community Action Corporation (NECAC) allows people to buy energy-efficient and fully-equipped modular homes. NECAC is the first not-for-profit agency in Missouri to participate in the Next Step Network’s home-ownership program. NECAC is a 12-county area not-for-profit social service, community health and public housing Community Action Agency. NECAC contracts with federal, state and local governments, private businesses and other not-for profit organizations to operate and administer self-sufficiency service programs for the low-income, elderly, youth, disabled and disadvantaged population. The agency’s Central Administration Offices are located in Bowling Green, with NECAC Service Centers operated in each county. “This is just another tool for home-owner-
ship, said NECAC Deputy Director for Housing Developments Carla Potts. “It’s another opportunity for people to realize the dream of owning a home. Potts said the program can help enliven many communities by offering quality homes at an affordable price. “Not everyone can build a traditional house, she said. “But there are other options, and this is one of them. It’s one of the best programs I’ve seen. NECAC will do estimates for a lot, foundation and other costs for qualified applicants, who will then choose from one of four floor plans. Applicants must meet credit guidelines of lenders, who will make the purchase loans. Once an agreement is signed, the home will be ordered. NECAC will oversee the set up and do finish work. Contractors will take care of heating and cooling, electrical and plumbing installation.
The energy-efficient homes range in size from 960 square feet to 1,580 square feet, and come with major appliances furnished. There are three three-bedroom, two bathroom models and one four-bedroom, twobathroom models from which to choose. The price range is estimated at $40,000 to $55,000. Next Step is based in Louisville, Ky., and is dedicated to putting sustainable home-ownership
within reach of everyone while making sure houses are built to quality standards and are put on a permanent foundation. More about Next Step is available by logging on to www.nextstephomes. org.
