teen. Tällaisia asioita pohtivat Gustave Flaubertin romaanin Bouvard ja Pécuchet päähenkilöt. Väsyneenä oman olemisensa monimutkaisuuteen he päättävät ottaa selvää kaikesta, kaikista tieteistä ja kaikista taiteista – ja tietenkin epäonnistuvat katastrofaalisesti kaikissa yrityksissään. Romaani käsittelee tuoreesti, yllättävästi ja hauskasti tämän(kin) ajan ihmisenä olemisen ongelmia. Sen muoto on loputtoman toisteinen, yritystä ja erehdystä kieputtava. Ja siksi niin kovin elämän kaltainen. Tuomas Rinta-Panttilan dramatisoima ja ohjaama esitys on farssiksi vedetty kriittinen ensyklopedia. Tired of their own labyrinthine existence, the protagonists decide to find out everything there is to know about everything, about every discipline of science, about every form of art. Naturally, this sort of an effort is bound for disaster. An endless loop of trial and error reminiscent of life itself, Flaubert’s novel deals with the human condition in a way that remains fresh, surprising and exhilarating to this day. Dramatist-director Tuomas Rinta-Panttila’s stage adaptation is a critical encyclopedia-turned-farce where two present-day heroes step in to lead the audience on the above-mentioned quest: to fully understand what in the world is going on in the world!
