QUARTERLY NEWSLETTER • SPRING EDITION

Message From Our President

During our 86th annual meeting, I had the opportunity to share some exciting highlights from 2024 and outline our strategic plans for the upcoming year’s financial challenges. I want to emphasize our team’s unwavering commitment to achieving our goals and delivering exceptional service to our members.

To position ourselves effectively for the future, we have invested in additional resources and made significant organizational changes that align with our asset size, enhancing our operational efficiency. In 2025, we will focus on implementing a new core system, carefully evaluating the services and modules that need updates to significantly enhance the experience for our members and employees alike.

Over the last two years, we have successfully installed Interactive

Teller Machines (ITMs) at most of our drive-up locations. This spring, we are excited to complete the transition by installing the final two machines at our Elm Street branch in Manchester.

These initiatives, while demanding in terms of time and costs, are vital for fortifying our infrastructure and reinforcing our commitments in cybersecurity, workforce development, enterprise risk management, network improvements, and disaster recovery.

At Triangle, we proudly stand by our core values and principles, which guide our mission to serve our members and uplift our community. Our team is deeply committed to these values, which are essential to fostering transparency, effective communication, employee engagement, member focus, and financial literacy.

We envision 2025 as a pivotal year for financial and infrastructure growth. While challenges may emerge, we are enthusiastic about positioning the credit union for long-term success and continued service excellence.

Thank you, Scott

What NOT to Do with a Suspicious Email

Do not reply to the email for verification

If you receive a suspicious email that appears to be from someone you know, you may be tempted to investigate further. Replying to the email with questions like, “Have you been hacked?” or “Is this attachment safe?” only increases the security risk. If an email account has been compromised, the person who replies back to your question probably won’t be who you expect. You could be communicating with a cybercriminal in disguise.

Do not forward the email to someone else

The best practice is to never click a link or open an attachment that you were not expecting. But if you are fooled by a phishing email and you click a malicious link or open a malicious attachment, you may find that the link or attachment will not behave as expected. For example, after you open what appeared to be an image attachment, the file may open an installer window instead. Another example is when a malicious link redirects you to an unrelated login page.

Do not mark the email as spam

First, let’s clarify the difference between spam and a phishing attack. Spam emails are typically annoying or unwanted advertisements. Spam is often unsolicited, but it is usually just a harmless attempt to sell you something. On the other hand, a phishing attack is a malicious email designed to look and feel like real correspondence. Phishing emails typically include a call to action, such as clicking a link, opening an attachment, or even transferring money.

Valuable Insights into Your Credit with Better Checking

Better Checking just got better than ever with a new credit score tracker and more! Check out these valuable services:

1. Credit Score Tracking

Receive valuable insights into your credit score and see your score plotted monthly in a chart so you can easily see your changes over time. Your credit score is analyzed with several factors by TransUnion—total of all account revolving balances, real estate information, oldest account, loan balances, recent account delinquencies, and derogatory payment status.

You can also receive monthly notifications right to your email to easily track your score.

2. Credit Report

Your personal credit report contains details about your financial behavior and identification information. Each credit reporting agency collects and organizes data about your credit history from your creditors and public records.

Reviewing your credit report allows you to check for mistakes or fraud and it’s an effective way for you to understand what lenders see when they check your credit history.

3. Credit File Monitoring

Credit File Monitoring consistently reviews your credit history to detect any key changes and verify the accuracy of what is reported.

With IDProtect, you have access to credit file monitoring – your credit report will be checked daily and you will be notified by email when key changes or important activity related to your credit report are detected, such as: credit inquiries, public records, delinquencies, negative information, employment changes, new accounts opened.

Alerts may also be sent directly to your mobile phone via text and can be set up on our dedicated Better Checking website

In addition to credit score tracking and identity theft protection, your Triangle Credit Union Better Checking account also offers enhanced cell phone protection for up to four phones on your account—up to $400 per claim! Visit our checking account page to learn more and open an account today!
