ELIZABETH KNOX
INNA MODJA
Interviewed by Warren Smart
Interviewed by Alessandra Keighley Encouraged by her neighbour Salif Keita to sing with Bamako’s Super Rail Band, Inna Modja has gone on to craft her own unique style, mixing Desert Blues and Hiphop, becoming one of the most important Malian contemporary artists on the international scene. Her lyrics often focus on highlighting an injustice or an iniquity; she regularly speaks out against female genital mutilation and domestic violence and is an inspiring figurehead not just for feminism but also for all humanity. She Inna Modja takes no prisoners. She takes no shit.
Elizabeth Knox is the author of thirteen Elizabeth Knox novels, and a collection of essays. Her best known are The Vintner’s Luck, Dreamhunter and Dreamquake. Latest were Mortal Fire (finalist in the LA Times Book Awards) and the horror/science fiction, Wake.
