Serving up some of the most delicious recipes from their homelands, festival artists swap their instruments for cooking utensils and combine exotic flavours, fascinating cultures and moving stories in a cooking presentation like no other. Hosted by Jax Hamilton, the Nova Energy Taste the World stage is where you can catch tasty musical moments as some of the festival’s biggest stars serve up their favourite dishes in the kitchen.

Described as comfort food at its best – Pastel de Choclo is a much loved Chilean beef and corn casserole. The hearty dish includes a layer of caramelised corn and the combination of ingredients (beef, raisins, olives and roasted chicken) make for a delicious salty, sweet combination that is reminiscent of shepherd’s pie... yummy! Lisa, Mirain & Esy will take our taste buds on a sweet and savoury journey to Wales with their traditional Welsh cakes and Welsh rarebit. Welsh cakes – a favourite sweet treat in Wales are often described as a cross between a cookie, a scone, and a pancake and Welsh rarebit, the original cheese on toast will give you a new appreciation for the term ‘comfort food’. UPFUL & TRUE POT
Yelluh & Sparrow will share a beloved ‘Ital’ (Rastafarian) recipe with us, making their version of the classic Jamaican Saturday soup. Vegetables and beans are combined in one large pot in this no fuss recipe. POLISH TOMATO MULTI-CULTI SOUP
While many people associate tomato soup with Spain or Andy Warhol, Poland was where the first recorded recipe for tomato soup came from and they’ve been making it (and making it well!) for over hundred years. AUTHENTIC NEW ORLEANS GUMBO
New Orleans style chicken and shrimp gumbo that really rocks! Make this gumbo recipe for an authentic taste of Louisiana. New Orleans natives will tell you this gumbo is best paired with a Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio during the warm months and a Pinot Noir or Cabernet Sauvignon during the cooler months. TSB COMMUNITY TRUST COOK-OFF WINNER
As part of the Community Programme which takes place in the lead-up to WOMAD, budding young chefs at Taranaki secondary schools cooked up a storm of culinary creations, competing for a spot in the Nova Energy Taste the World kitchen. Students had two hours to cook their pre-selected dish, which represented one of the top 10 cuisines of the world, before presenting it to the judges. Julia from La Mambanegra will create this traditional Latin American soup. The Sancocho valluna is a main dish from the Cauca Valley, in Cali, Colombia. The dish is social! Meant to be shared and cooked with friends and is often a favourite for river trips because of it’s no fuss method; ingredients are combined in a big pot and slow cooked over a camp fire. VIETNAMESE CHICKEN SALAD
Van-Anh shares her fresh and vibrant recipe for Goi ga, the popular Vietnamese chicken salad. Thai lemon leaves and lime juice are combined with seasoned, poached chicken and rau răm, Vietnamese coriander in an explosion of flavours. Sun, 5pm, Nova Energy Taste the World
