TWO GUITARS

Two guitars, two mates and two very different takes on what it means to be a modern Māori.

Choice musicians Billy and Te Pou are about to smash the biggest night of their lives. But backstage, the super tūturu competition they’re in has them thinking, “umm… are we Māori enough for this gig?”

Hilarious, thoughtful and filled with fun, this touching comedy explores the world of third-gen Māori who’ve missed the reo bus and find themselves a bit lost.

From the mind of award-winning playwright Jamie McCaskill (Ngāti Tamaterā), this is a musical journey that is as funny as it is moving.

PRIMA FACIE

Something has to change.

Tessa is a criminal defence lawyer at the top of her game and loving it: defending, cross-examining and playing the rules of the law to win. But when the tables turn, she finds herself at the mercy of the very system she has dedicated her life to. Shadows of doubt are illuminated, making us question, who is our legal system serving?

Turning our courts of law into a different kind of stage, this sharp, witty and gripping one-woman show has sold out throughout Australia, the West End and on Broadway.

Written by Suzie Miller, direct from Circa Theatre, this phenomenal production stars Mel Dodge and continues an urgent conversation for Aotearoa.

DOPPELLOOPER

It’s a double-trouble, double-take with Doppellooper.

We’ve all wondered what it might be like to have a doppelgänger and randomly bump into them one day.

In a strange twist of fate, Graeme James and Sonic Delusion, two flat-cap wearing, world traveling, live looping, indie musicians somehow ended up in the same town in Taranaki.

After being mistaken for each other one too many times, the musical doppelgängers have embraced the inevitable, teaming up to form the world’s

first (and only) looping supergroup, Doppellooper.

This is their long-fated premiere, so expect songs and stories from the road, a myriad of instruments and beautifully improvised chaos.

The Tantrum by Java Dance Theatre blends interactive dance and live music, as Tristan Carter struggles to maintain peace while the siblings grapple with their identities.
