WELCOME

Welcome

to the second annual West Chiltington Village Directory. One of a series of Village Directories in Sussex. This directory is delivered free of charge to every home and business in West Chiltington and the surrounding area. It contains details of the local clubs, societies, churches etc. In fact all the information that is useful to residents. Village Directories keep residents informed, shopping locally and using local services. Our aim is to support the community and the directory devotes 50% of its content free of charge to useful local information. This publication is made entirely possible by local trades and services who advertise. Please make every effort to support them and to mention that you saw the advert in The West Chiltington Village Directory. We now have a new website which has all the listings and advertisers contained in this edition. The website also has similar listings of 15 other West Sussex villages so if you need any local contact details for community groups in West Sussex this website is a good place to start. It is designed to also work on your smart phone or tablet so please have a look and make it one of your ‘favourites’ so you can easily access the contact details you need whether at home or on the move. We hope you find the Directory useful and that you keep it to hand for the whole year until the next one arrives. The Village Directory Team

SOUTH DOWNS SOCIETY

An annual traditional Village Fayre and Flower Show at West Chiltington recreation ground, Mill Road, every July. A day for the village involving all the villagers. All helpers welcome.

Based in Pulborough, we aim to conserve the landscape of the South Downs and are an entirely independent charity. We help our members, along with their families, to enjoy the South Downs and run over 200 walks annually across the South Downs National Park. We offer a local discount scheme and organise many day excursions to places of interest. Single membership is £25 a year and we send a regular newsletter with updates on our work which includes our comprehensive walks programme.

Our first work party was held at Highdown Hill near Worthing after the great storm of 1987. We have grown in stature and have a core group of volunteers but would like to recruit more to help. We mainly carry out work on alternate Sundays with the occasional Saturday and also weekend tasks, once or twice a year. Work carried out goes towards their 50 hour volunteer card over a year (but not compulsory) which entitles the holder to free entry to National Trust properties and discounts in their shops and restaurants. We’ve had students from Plumpton and various other colleges and those working towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.  We are a friendly bunch and provide any new recruits with a welcoming atmosphere and of course tea and biscuits! We also have many social events. Find us on facebook, visit our website or contact us for more information. EMAIL: sdntv@hotmail.com WEBSITE: www.southdownsntv.org.uk

WEST CHILTINGTON VILLAGE HALL

STORRINGTON AREA MINI BUS

The Village Hall hosts a wide range of activities and you can be sure that there is something to interest you. There are sporting activities including table tennis, badminton, short mat bowls, and aerobics, but if you are looking for something more cerebral the Fine Arts Society has a programme of monthly lectures. The Floral Club and the Horticultural Society have regular meetings as do the Women’s Institute. For “Strictly” fans why not try Line Dancing. If you are of a dramatic bent there is the Dramatic Society, or come along to the monthly Mary How film show; and for those of a musical persuasion the monthly Jazz Club has concerts with professional musicians. As well as this there are many private events held at the Hall throughout the year.

(including West Chiltington, Sullington, Thakeham & Cootham) Regular weekly trips to Worthing on Tuesdays. Every Friday shopping trips to out of town shopping centres. Every Monday to Pulborough (Tesco). Organised outings on Wednesdays during the summer including pub lunches. All services are door to door.
