Friends of St George’s Church Autumn Programme

Wisley Garden

The Friends of St George’s Church are delighted to offer a particularly wide-ranging autumn programme. Thursday 12th September:

Saturday afternoon, 2nd November:

Coach Outing to RHS Wisley Gardens and the Surrey Sculpture Trail. Coach departs 10am from St George’s Church, returns 5.30pm. Cost £38.50 or £26 for RHS members.

Music of a very different kind - samba drumming from the Silver Sounds. This community band for older people will take us on a tour of Brazilian street music followed by an opportunity to try our hand at this exhilarating musical form. Suitable for all ages and ideal for half term. Refreshments at cash bar. £5 - free for children, £2 for students, un-waged or on low income. 2.30pm for 3pm.

Friday 18th October: Organ recital by Nigel Wilby to mark the refurbishment of the church organ. Includes pieces by Bach, Percy Grainger, Saint-Saens and Marcel Dupré to show off the organ’s newly-restored choir manual. 7pm for 7.30. Café format – bring a picnic. Cash bar. £10.

Traditional music of Afghanistan -Veronica Doubleday, John Baily and Marc Clayton will perform more music and songs on the classic instruments of Afghanistan. John and Veronica lived for two years in Herat and discovered the importance of learning to play the music they were researching. Supper, in the same Afghan vein, from caterer Julie Mack. 7pm for 7.30. £16 to include supper, £10 concert only. All events take place in St George’s Church, BN2 1ED. Lloyds Bank branch to close Lloyds Bank is to close its Kemp Town branch in St George’s Road on 4th November 2019, following a review. The bank says that customers’ needs are changing and counters at the branch are 10% quieter than a year ago. The bank says: “The majority of customers are also using alternative ways to bank and we have another branch close by.” The nearest alternative Lloyds branches are in North Street and at Preston Circus. You can also use the Post Office for many everyday banking transactions.
