The increase in the number of homes has been achieved by reducing the number of larger 4- and 5-bed units that were proposed in the outline consent, and increasing the numbers of smaller 2- and 3-bed units, complying with the Government’s aim of making optimal use of suitable sites. 50 % Climate Change flood

The rejected plans for Friars Oak Fields Rydon Homes had sought to address the reason why the Secretary of State refused planning permission for the development in March 2018 by including the provision of a pedestrian bridge over the railway line. Hassocks Parish Council objected to the proposal and the site is specifically excluded from development in its emerging Neighbourhood Plan. Friars Oak Fields Residents Association also campaigned against the plans, with many people commenting that the site is valued and special as a green space and that Hassocks is already having to absorb a huge number of new houses.
