Paranormal Paranoia The Paranormal world covers such a broad range of topics, from ghost tours to exorcisms and house hauntings, to understanding séances and so many other ways to connect with the spirit world, it’s truly incredible.

I

n putting this issue together, we have covered as much as possible in order to inspire people to delve into the world of the paranormal, albeit some will say it’s all a crock, there’s no such thing as demons or spirits that attach themselves to humans, such paranoia!

Many sceptics will tell you it’s all smoke and mirrors and yet, across the world, there are equally as many people with experiences that can’t be explained.

James Randi, world famous sceptic, via his career as a magician and escape artist, has spent much of his 92 years debunking the paranormal. In 1996, he offered $1 million prize to anyone able to prove beyond doubt the existence of ghosts, paranormal activity, psychic or extrasensory powers and spiritual phenomena. However, according to the James Randi Educational Foundation website, that offer is withdrawn.

Personally, I have seen and experienced too much spirit activity to deny its existence. So, proving it is not anything I am worried about. Let’s say that discernment and personal experience counts for a lot and there will always be 6

believers and sceptics. That’s what makes life fun!

If I could wish for one thing, it would be a way to capture what I see through my eyes on video; I just never seem to have a camera in hand at the right time! One example of this was with Gary Sullivan.

We were walking around a haunted location, when we both happened to look up towards the roof of a building that had some pretty awful energy about it.

We were just in time to see a pigeon slam into an invisible wall! With a ‘squawk and poof’ of feathers and in broad daylight, it fell out of the sky landing, stunned but alive, on the roof. It shook its head and flew off after a couple of minutes. To this day, we don’t fully understand what happened. It would have been amazing to catch on film!

I have also had the pleasure to investigate many haunted locations and experienced some serious incidents over the years, many with Gary. They have left me intrigued and fascinated about the paranormal world. Sadly, we have also investigated many supposed hauntings, only to find out that the use of drugs had

contributed to the experience. Those people needed help with mental health issues; paranoia over paranormal had set in.

Louise’s column will tie in with a second new column Sacred Sites: Alchemy written

by Freya Sampson. This column will look at the mystical side of sacred sites.

Speaking of Gary and his new tag as The Paranormal Godfather, he features in this issue with a candid interview about his life and experiences. I also look at ghost tours, the types of companies involved, what they offer and ways to get the most out of a ghost tour!

Intern Brooklyn May got involved between all the madness that is Uni and COVID-19, to pen a piece on her 21st Century take on the Paranormal. Brooklyn looks at some of the original ghost investigators and how their experiences shaped the paranormal world.

Freya Sampson has put together a list of spirits and ghouls in a unique feature on Entitology. It’s a great initial introduction to the sorts of spirits one might encounter on a ghost investigation or even an exorcism.

Jane Offer, in her Reflections Column, looks at Science versus the Paranormal.

Her experiences in many countries around the world have seen people on all sides of this discussion butt heads passionately.

Continuing on the supernatural theme, resident columnists ShirleySienna and Jason D Varga, take a very different path of what happens during séances and when using a Ouija board. It’s a wellbalanced feature.

Film and Television of the

Paranormal It’s ‘Paranormal Month’ at Supernal, so let’s look at some oldies, newbies and goodies.

We all remember Derek Acorah, a trance medium and quite the entertainer, now himself one of the Dearly Departed. His show ‘Most Haunted’ was a spooky fest in itself, mainly because of the participating guests and regular characters. The series was full of paranormal adventure, to the point of seemingly and perhaps very well acted, psychic and uncomfortable possession!

I recommend this series simply because of Derek’s uniqueness on many levels and it is a good lesson on what to do and what not to do, when investigating a haunted house.

A newer show I have been recently introduced to is Omar Gosh. Omar is a guy in America who, both on his own and with a team of friends and paranormal enthusiasts, investigates many different types of reportedly haunted places buildings and open areas.

However, Omar is a regular guy, he certainly gets the creeps, he is happy to debunk and further investigate and say “Well I don’t know, but I’ll try and find out.” I had plenty of laughs all the way through and I do like that he is respectful of the spirit world, doesn’t mind saying a good prayer of protection when he’s worried and wears his evil eye and mala beads just in case. He doesn’t claim to be the expert and is totally interactive, handing it over to the viewer to leave messages, voicing their opinion and giving suggestions for the show.

Of course, as films go, one must watch the classics, Beetlejuice and Ghost – oldies, but necessary for a good ghost story and both do give one a lot to think about when interacting with the ‘other side’.

Remember - the truth is far stranger than fiction could ever imagine itself to be!

I must say that I have been binging these on YouTube. Not too scary, although my daughter got the creeps, so maybe I am well-seasoned. However, the episode with the doll’s head that kept turning itself around and some not so friendly atmospheric conditions, I did find a little unnerving. Simply because I once owned a pair of very old and spooky dolls that I had to shut in my laundry at night so I could get to sleep - oops!

Sacred Sites: The Alchemy Ethics

Sacred: contextual meaning; deserving veneration: indicating great respect and reverence.

Since the Industrial Revolution began in 1760, life on our planet has been on a slippery slope toward mass extinction.

In our race to make life easier for ourselves, we have inadvertently, as a global culture, been moving in a rapid direction that is quite the opposite of respectful, reverent and sacred, in the way we treat our planet, environment and ecology.

Yet, when we have an opportunity to travel, literally tens and hundreds of thousands of people journey to see the world’s natural wonders and to witness the archaic, prehistoric megaliths around our planet, which are all sacred sites to the original peoples of that area.

What is it about these ‘Sacred Sites’, that capture one’s attention, that

fascinates and beckon to humanity?

We stand in awe of these mystical places for many reasons: Our global cultures nostalgia for the archaic Our desire to know ourselves and our unique place in the universe Their sheer stature and beauty Their seemingly impossible locations Their precise construction or gargantuan size, which we are unable to replicate even with the most modern technology available in 2020.

Their subject matter, what they consist of physically and metaphysically.Their arrangement in aligning to constellations in the heavens, their rising and setting and solar processional alignments.

Their purpose and let’s face it, we have very little idea of this. The feeling, which is

evoked in our being when we gaze upon images of them or when we are literally standing in front of them The mystery of synchronicity that leads one to be present at a sacred site, and that which occurs around and within them. The sense that there is something they are asking of us to remember and become.

Given we, as a global culture, have very little idea of our true ancient origins, is it any wonder that we have, by and large, forgotten why we are drawn to sacred sites and how to behave when we actually visit.

It’s not like there are any units you can take in school to learn about this. Nor is there an Enlightenment 101 tertiary course available, which educates one as to the ethical alchemical practices for life and sacred sites.

This is knowledge gathered, piece by piece, through

So, what does all this have to do with the down to Earth practicalities of ethics for visiting sacred sites?

First, let’s understand what ethics truly are. Ethics are born from a set of values, which come from a person’s underlying beliefs. Beliefs that exist within the subconscious mind. In the Article/Interview ‘What is Community?’, Dr Uncle Noel Nannup (read the story HERE), spoke in- depth about culture and how conflict has arisen between the peoples of the world, due to their varying sets of values and understandings about life. It is what we call ‘culture’ and they don’t always align.

There’s a saying, which to me, describes the difficulty of aligning values systems.

‘It is easier to put a camel through the eye of a needle

than it is for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.’ What exists within one’s beliefs matrix, defines our subjective version of reality.

There is very little absolute truth in the world, as truth is determined primarily by point of view. This is why mystery schools were born. To explore the nature of reality, in the pursuit of absolute truth.

Many of the principles within the teachings of the mystery schools are those which have been put into practice to create the megalithic structures, those which we call sacred sites, commonly known as pyramids, henges and alignments.

The principles, from which they are created, are those that are found both in nature and in the wonders of the world. These are observed through the common thread of mathematics and geometry, which is why the

term ‘sacred geometry’ was born. It describes the patterns and shapes from which creation flows and continues to flow through creation.

This language and culture unites all cultures and languages, for it matters not which dialect one speaks, nor the tonality of skin, nor creed, it is the one absolute unifying language which nature and divinity vibrate to, no matter where you are in the world or to which planet you travel.

The two other universal fundamentals are love and gratitude; how we feel when we give or receive these energies freely.

Next month we explore some sacred geometry principles and universal truths and how they relate to simple techniques for good practice within and around sacred sites.

Introduction to Sacred Sites

By Louise Clarke The land is more than just the dusty earth on which we stand!

From time immemorial certain spaces have had a powerful attraction for millions of people around the world. Legends and age-old stories tell of extraordinary experiences people have had while visiting these sites, which are said to have the power to heal the body, enlighten the mind and bring balance to an environment out of harmony.

What is a sacred site?

Depending on whom you ask, a sacred site may be associated with a cathedral, mosque or synagogue, or a waterfall, mountain, lake or forest.

To the Western ear, ‘sacred’ may be synonymous with sacrosanct or enviably holy and associated with an actual geographical location. To indigenous cultures, everything has spirit and everything is deeply interconnected. Their spaces are considered to be spiritually alive, of cultural value or even actual representations of creation itself.

There is a deeply spiritual tribe in the Limpopo province of South Africa called the VhaVenda, who are desperately trying to protect the area long believed to be associated with rain making. This area includes Lake Fundudzi, the Thathe Vondo Forest, Mashovhela Rock Pool and Phiphidi Waterfall.

Central to countless legends, sacred Lake Fundudzi is one of the few true inland lakes in South Africa. Said to be created by a landslide 20 000 years ago, Fundudzi is filled by the Godoni and Mutale rivers. Mysteriously, with no obvious outlet, it never overflows.

“The lake has been declared a National Heritage Site but some local campaigners have argued that this was only done to promote tourism and job creation...”

Until recently it was not advised for tourists to visit the lake, which is still somewhat difficult to find and there is a curious method of approaching the lake.

When a visitor first sees the lake they are expected to pay the proper respect by turning their back to it, and then bend down to look at it upside down through their spread legs. This is a salute known as the ‘ukodola’.

sacred sites In another time the area around the Phiphidi Waterfall was a ‘zwifho’, a sacred space. Only a few select members from a lineage of healers in the Ramunangi clan of the VhaVenda were allowed to meet there to perform rites to summon and give thanks for the rains.

The waterfall is surrounded by towering forest trees that reach into the sky like antennae of the gods. The water in the Mutshindudi River tumbles about 20m into a large pool hidden in a natural amphitheatre of indigenous rainforest.

In the early morning the area is often hidden under a blanket of mist. Sun rays pierce through the gaps between the branches, giving the falls a mystical aura associated with its reputation as home to the swirling spirits of the gods and the mythical lion that roared to summon the rains.

But the wise ones from the Ramunangi no longer go there; they have not been for a while and are unlikely to return. Those in the know say even the mythical lion, Guvhugughu, whose roar once haunted this holy site, has gone silent.

This site, like many the world over, are under threat of development as a tourist attraction, to become inaccessible to all except those who pay an entrance fee to visit. Expanding human settlements, the clearing of adjoining hillsides for the planting of trees,

cattle grazing, the invasion of alien vegetation and the erosion of the cleared hillsides are creating concerns about the longterm protection of the lake.

The lake has been declared a National Heritage Site but some local campaigners have argued that this was only done to promote tourism and job creation, while ignoring the spiritual value of the lake. Swimming in Lake Fundudzi is not recommended, as it is full of crocodiles.

Mphatheleni Makaulule, a master of indigenous knowledge systems in the area, is campaigning to preserve the numerous sacred sites, indigenous forests and nature in general through her organisation ‘Dzomo la Mupo’, which means ‘to speak for the natural world’. She says, “Sacred sites are everything to us. They connect the sun, moon and earth. Sacred sites hold the harmony of the universe. They are keepers of people. They hold the

Noun: The study of astral ‘wildlife’, is divided into many specialised fields that cover their morphology, physiology, anatomy, behaviour, origin and distribution.

‘Boogie-busting’ is an intriguing, fascinating and nail biting profession and, one could say, there is a pretty standard set of beings to be encountered.

Non-physical beings, or entities, come in various shapes and sizes, existing primarily in the Astral Dimension (AD). This means that they have no physical body only astral energy and, as the AD is devoid of light, there is no heat there. It is also the dimension in which the subconscious and conscious mind, feeling and emotion exist.

The Astral is subject to the law of polarity/duality.

To explain, this means that, while enjoying the lovely atmosphere in one street, one can cross to the adjoining street and feel totally uneasy; this same contrast applies in the astral.

An Astral Being is attracted to the light that a physical being emanates from their soul.

It shines out through the physical body, which emits heat, wave frequencies of emotion and thought and geometries of light and sound.

A person, who unwittingly makes a contract with an Earthbound Spirit (EBS) or entity, enabling it to draw on a particular frequency and therefore gaining greater access to the physical dimension, effectively piggybacking off a person.

The following is a brief description of the garden variety astral entities, which a modern day exorcist would most commonly encounter, when called to assist in the liberation of a person, place or thing.

In the Celtic Tradition they’re known as: Earth – Gnomes: small humanoid like and live in the earth, love gems and crystals.

Fire – Salamanders: mini dragon like creatures that are found in and around the flames of any fire.

Air – Sylphs: Winged faerie like creatures, which are invisible and guide the breeze and wind movements.

Water – Undines: live in pools often with waterfalls and where there is activity in the water.

Astral Being is a generic term for any spirit that lives on one of the various layers of the Astral Realms.

Other Elemental beings that may help or hinder a person are: Faeries - miniature human like with wings and magical abilities.

Pixies - Like a faerie only smaller, with coloured skin and butterfly wings.

Elementals - Tiny Nature Beings Elementals are defined as the small beings who occupy nature’s elements. Each culture has different names for the same types of beings.

Elves - White beings with elongated features.

Magical, beautiful, seductive, may cause illness.

Sprites - A generalised term for any of the elemental winged being.

Goblins - Mischievous or malicious grotesque beings that are particularly greedy for gold and jewellery. They have magical abilities like to a faerie.

Earthbound Spirit - Ghost There are several common types of EBS. An EBS is a person who has left their physical body and who has, for some reason, not returned to the light/Source. The various causes for this can be – unfinished business, unawareness of their own death, fear of retribution, hopelessness/misery, shock/ confusion, addiction to the physical world and human desires, violent death by own or others hands.

Poltergeist Literally translates as ‘noisy-ghost’, meaning they move physical objects and things around the house. They may also interfere with the electricals of a place, lights, communication devices, TVs. Possession A type of spirit attachment, which has progressed to an advanced stage. Here the spirit has overtaken a person, as over time they have incrementally given their power away to an EBS or other entity.

More common types of EBS encounters are: Dark Witch, Dark Sorcerer, Dark Sorceress EB Guardian (eg Featherfoot, Witch doctor etc) EB Addicts – Alcoholics, Marijuana, Heroine, Methamphetamine, Pharmaceuticals, Steroids, Adrenochrome.

Other common terms for EBS are: Etheric Being/Looper – one who is unaccepting of their death.

One who is experiencing the same thing over and over, similar to ground-hog day.

Sacral Being – usually a child who is EB due to an emotional issue.

Mental Being – one who is aware of their passing, has no emotional attachment and who has a message to pass to a loved one.

Corporeal Being – one who can move consciously and freely throughout the Astral Realms.

Shape-shifter An Astral Being who is able to change its form to suit its own purpose. It will change form to calm a person, to frighten them or to befriend them; whatever is required.

The Dark Lord The head of the Demonic forces appearing in several forms. It is wise not to speak those names, lest we call them into creation.

Their aspects can be seductive and alluring, preying upon human desires, generally money, power and fame. They are extremely cruel, which creates severe harm to all bodies.

The very mischievous version, the trickster, creates confusion, distraction and diversions.

High Demon One of the Princes of the Underworld responsible for the testing of humanity.

Demon A general term for a being that administers to the hellish frequencies and dimensions.

Lessor Demon (Minion) A foot soldier for high demons and the Dark Lord Curse Demon A small gremlin like creature, who is conjured when a curse is ‘spelled’. The curse demon will be present in the energy field of the person or place. They are more like a ‘naughty’ child, but can be very destructive.

Nightmare A type of demon in the astral dimension, which invades the dream-scape of a person or animal experiencing a nightmare.

feature Succubus/Incubus Female and male demons who prey upon and exploit the sexual desires of a person, often in dream state.

Repeated sexual interactions with one of these demonic beings can cause severe illness or even death, as they drain the vitality of a person, through accessing their sexual and primordial chi.

Vampire There are two types of vampires. One is similar to a Dementor, as coined in Harry Potter, an energy sucking being, which feeds on the frequency of powerlessness, misery and hopelessness causing depression.

The second is a possession or succubi; a curse based on lust, which is handed from person to person via the Dark Lord seductive lineage.

Werewolf A humanish wolf being, related to hell hounds, who may possess someone or who may use the astral to terrorise a cursed person which is their primary food source.

Their cycle of terrorising is governed by the moons cycle, being most active in the fullest phase of the moon and least active in the darkest phase of the moon.

Hell-Hounds Usually appearing as black, enormous, with red glowing eyes and often having a bad smell. They may exhibit super strength, speed or be fiery.

They are gate keepers of the magical and supernatural. They may also hunt down souls.

Extra Terrestrials There are infinite types of ET’s.

The most common two that plague humanity are: Common Greys These are the type that you see on the internet everywhere and in sci-fi movies. They have no emotional body and this is their prime interest in humanity, as it’s a need for their survival.

Reptilians Primarily I refer to the inter-dimensional reptilian beings, who are very angry and aggressive in nature.

They are rude, abusive and have no love for humanity. They consider themselves to be superior and are of warrior caste.

Implants Either a physical or non-physical thing that is placed in either the subtle or physical bodies of a person, who has inadvertently given permission, consciously or more usually unconsciously, to the ET’s.

They may be nanotech or crystalline like, or even light or dark matter and come in all shapes, sizes and patterns.

Talking to spirits or talking to ourselves?

By Jason D Varga When it comes to some paranormal phenomena, it does help to know the difference; what is really going on when we use tools such as pendulums, glass moving, Ouija boards and even table tipping. We need to know how to differentiate between when we are communicating with spirit and when we are tapping into our own subconscious or even higher self.

Spirit communication is largely attributed, by those who are unaware of the difference, to what is really Ideomotor phenomenon. So what is Ideomotor phenomenon or response? According to the dictionary definition: Ideomotor phenomenon is a psychological phenomenon wherein a subject makes motions unconsciously.

The Ideomotor response or Ideomotor reflex, often abbreviated to IMR, is a concept in hypnosis and psychological research.

refers to the process where a thought or mental image brings about a seemingly ‘reflexive’ or automatic muscular reaction, often of minuscule degree and potentially outside of the awareness of the subject.

As in reflexive responses to pain, the body sometimes reacts reflexively with an Ideomotor effect to the idea alone, without the person consciously deciding to take action. The results of automatic writing, dowsing, facilitated communication and Ouija boards have all been attributed to the phenomenon.

So what is really happening here? And, how can we avoid it or use it?

Let’s take the simple pendulum: when asking for guidance from spirit, it is advisable to hang the pendulum from something, to be ‘hands-off’ so to speak.

This way it is not possible to influence the swing of the pendulum with our own subconscious thoughts.

However, sometimes it is more helpful to actually tap into those locked away thoughts. For example, let’s say you have misplaced your keys, a common experience for most. The conscious mind may struggle to remember where you put them, but that information is still available at an unconscious level. So, by using a pendulum to set up

yes/no questions to locate the keys or even to point you in the direction of the keys, can be a handy tool indeed.

There are various takes on the way to use a pendulum, but try it yourself. If you own a pendulum or a simple weight, such as a steel nut and bolt tied to a length of string, hold it as still as you can. Decide that a circle equals ‘Yes’, while a straight swing equals ‘No’. Now just think, “YES” over and over until the pendulum responds with the correct movement.

‘Physical’ phenomena such as glass moving and table tipping can be kick- started by IMR. The sitters around the table all want some sort of evidence and their unconscious minds will work together in a kind of group mind connection.

Then, via IMR, they begin to tip the table or move the glass. The beautiful thing about this is that it builds belief and powerful psychic energy that opens the pathways for authentic spirit communication.

A good medium does not need any of these ‘tools’ to communicate with spirit. The use of such visual displays is generally to give the sitters something tangible - seeing is believing.

In turn, this removes any negative energy that may be blocking the authentic spirit communication. Also, let’s face it, whilst having stuff move around on its own accord is jolly good fun; it can also be a pathway to psychokinesis, the ability to move objects via thought alone.

As always, be aware and always treat such tools with safety and respect!

Séances and Spirits

I would sit in her room and pour over stories of table tipping, and messages from Ouija boards, photos of mediums producing ectoplasmic spirit entities from the various orifices of their bodies, and remember still a picture of an empty chair where a woman had once sat, a victim of spontaneous combustion-the only thing left, a pair of shoes and ashes.

More than a few of us, young and silly, or old and still as silly, have played with the Ouija board - glass rocking around and flying off, candles burning and espied apparitions, or thinking we have and scaring ourselves unnecessarily. I decided long ago that it wasn’t a good idea to play around as, in truth, I understood a lot of what my young friends did not. I was already privy to information and was a

clear seer and experiencer all my childhood and young adult life. I have learnt to love the company and accompanying noises, knocks and happenings that comes from living with and communicating with spirit on many levels. To someone who has no understanding and is vulnerable, unchecked it may cause psychological scars, fear, paranoia and misery.

What ‘spooks’ some people out, is my norm. However, I am well aware that there are entities and forms of negativity that I do not wish to have anything to do with, nor wish to attract.

As well as facilitating my groups and classes, designed to develop spiritual understanding, mediumship, and the psychic and intuitive facilities, I often bring in my ‘spooky table’ or Ouija board, as well as using ‘the cards’ on any given evening.

I also host séance and communication evenings or soirees, often with both Jason and Anthony, our Editor.

During our séance soirees, we work with the board, writing down the messages as the planchette moves and, as the table twists, turns, spins and creaks, it has been shown to be of spirit orientation, as we haven’t been able to replicate it.

Jason has been satisfied that it is not we humans; it is coming from ‘the other side’.

While we have plenty of evidential mediumistic and visual information, at the same time lots of laughter ensues, as ‘the table’ does

seem to like to show off a bit.

We always work on a high and happy note and there are also tears or release realisation, with connections made that reminds us how wonderful and what a privilege it is to reconnect and communicate with those passed on.

The Paranormal, a 21st Century Point of View

Instances of paranormal activity have been recorded or witnessed throughout time, with stories of ghosts, ghouls, demons and other such entities written into the folklore of various cultures throughout the world. Research into the paranormal and the act of ‘ghost hunting’, otherwise known as paranormal investigating, only really began during the 19th Century, (mid 1800s) by Harry Price and members of the ‘Ghost club’ like Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan-Doyle and W.B Yeates just to name a few. In recent years becoming popularised by television and internet webisodes of ghost hunting shows such as ‘Most Haunted’ and ‘Ghost Hunters’. My personal favourite a web show called ‘Buzzfeed Unsolved’ which delves into, not only the Supernatural – ghosts, demons, aliens and other such entities, but also investigating popular actual crime cases.

Definition of Paranormal Investigating: Paranormal investigating, most often referred to as ‘ghost hunting’ is the search for tangible evidence of the existence of supernatural beings - more often than not ghosts and other such spirits - in locations where ‘ghost sightings’ have occurred frequently. These are often places of former mass genocide, abandoned places that once housed multitudes of people - hospitals and prisons most notably, as well as ancient sites, burial grounds that have been paved over and built upon and finally, most commonly, in graveyards and cemeteries.

Notable paranormal investigators include Harry Price and Ed and Lorraine Warren, most well known for their involvement in the Amityville Horror haunting.

This event led to the book and movies ‘The Amityville Horror’. Then there is John Zaffis, who has created and appeared in many documentaries based on the research of paranormal phenomenon.

Many people are critical and sceptical of the results and findings of paranormal investigations. Many people believed and still believe the Amityville horror case was nothing more than a hoax orchestrated by those involved.

In contrast, many believe wholeheartedly that it was real and that there is definite forensic evidence to prove the existence of a demon.

But that’s just it; to a sceptic of the paranormal it’s hard to prove anything when there is no solid scientific evidence of the paranormal existing. The definition of paranormal even states ’beyond the scope of normal scientific understanding.’

As such, there have been many sceptics of the tangibility and factuality of the results provided by paranormal investigators.

Arguments often used, are the faking of evidence, as well as the discussion of many of the tools, including electronic devices used. Thus the reactions and evidence collected by ghost hunters could be a result of radio frequencies and other, scientifically explainable reasons. Then, there are the

overdramatised and televised depictions of ‘Ghost hunts’ which can hurt the credibility of many investigations.

Tools typically used in ghost hunting: 1. Ouija boards are a rather dangerous game to play in the locations frequented by ghost hunters. Ouija boards are used in places with high paranormal activity to contact spirits and have spirits relay a message or answer questions for those using the tool. It is considered highly dangerous by many, as there is no clear certainty of whom or what you are contacting.

2. Infrared thermometer is used to detect a change in the heat signatures of a room, area or space. It is how many investigators try to identify hot or cold spots, which are often assumed to be spirits and their presence.

3. EMF (Electromagnetic Field Meter) is used to detect any changes or fluctuations in the surrounding electromagnetic fields, trying to find possibly unexplainable ones that give evidence of the presence of another being.

4. EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) devices. One is a spirit box that flicks between various radio frequencies per second and used to help spirits communicate through electromagnetic frequencies.

Success is not always guaranteed as some voices that come through, could be someone talking from a radio station and could easily be misinterpreted. Any sort of recording device can be used to collect EVP. 5. Holy water may seem somewhat odd and while not all investigators carry this with them, many do confide in priests before investigations and carry holy water when investigating areas rumoured to house demons.

As someone who feels they have had many a paranormal experience in their own home, I feel I can say that, while there is a lot of glitz and glamour and over dramatization to the whole televised ghost hunting phenomenon, there is definitely a charm and definite intrigue to the findings of some of these investigations.

Ghost Tours & Adventures

As a part of our paranormal edition, I thought it’d be fun to pen some of my thoughts on the topic of ‘Ghost’ Tours as, for over 20 years, it’s been my honour to experience and work with hauntings and spiritual phenomena.

No matter where I roam around the globe, I have encountered spirit. At times, it has made my hair stand on end and other times, made me almost physically sick.

Working as a psychic medium and ghost investigator, with Gary Sullivan (Forever Haunted) and Australian Ghost Adventures (now defunct) has opened the doors to

the paranormal in a big way and allows me now to share my take on it all.

I have been intrigued by spirit since aged seven, when my sister and her friends held a séance. We gathered around the dining room table with candles lit, windows darkened and doors closed. My sister began, asking spirit to come forth. She also wanted Jesus to appear.

Candles flickering, funny odours pervading the room, (maybe someone pooped their pants?); ‘eerie faces’ appeared in the darkness.

All I remember after that is girls screaming, doors and curtains flung open and kids in tears. Strangely, I found myself unafraid, as

adventures I watched what I now know to be a spirit person floating in the corner of the room.

Enough said, here are my tips on ghost tours.

Tour Experiences There are various types of ghost tours; most are walking with spooky stories to enthral the audience, building up fear-based energy. Others allow patrons to spend time trying to connect with ghouls, and spirits of the dead – a vigil.

Others have sleep-overs and entertaining fright nights.

I prefer operators that run multiple groups at once, covering the tools of ghost hunting, the history and offering a mediumistic, spiritual experience. This means each group experiences all levels of a hands-on ghost investigation.

Before you sign up for any tour, work out what you would like to experience and find a company that offers it.

Location If you’re travelling, do some research and incorporate a tour or two along the way. We did a couple in Edinburgh, UK and, while one section was genuinely haunted, the tours themselves were informative, fun and packed full of awesome history!

Operators There are certainly some interesting characters involved in the haunted tour business. It’s unregulated and, like all businesses, you’ll find good and bad. My advice is scrutinising any potential company.

They will regale you with stories and experiences to frighten the pants off the gullible and, personally I find that interesting in people claiming to be ghost busting mediums - mediumship is all about healing!

Spirit, or ghostly apparitions, are often misunderstood and, as portrayed in the series Ghost Whisperer, where a ‘ghost’ appears to be disgruntled, due to an understanding medium, he or she, eventually moves forward into the light, leaving the crowd standing around with sighs of' “ooh - ahh!”

I’ve always thought it funny, when participating in a ghost tour, that on more than one occasion I’d be involved in assisting, shall we say ‘a stuck spirit’ to move on. By allowing my energy to be utilised by workers from the spirit world, lost or confused souls are able to shift their energy; no waving of hands and woo-woo on my behalf, just willingness and good intention. This ultimately leaves that location a little less haunted! Please note: sometimes tours insist you agree to not ‘assist’ any ‘stuck’ souls into the light!

Ghost Hunting Tools Many companies use EMF meters, temperature gauges and other cool stuff. My suggestion is that if you have your own ghostbusting gear, ask if you can bring it along; there’s nothing like a ghost adventure to learn how it works!

I also suggest people take a low wattage torch along, as too much white light tends to send spirits packing. A great experience I had at the

Old Geelong Goal was when one guy turned on his torch and it lit from one wing to the other! He was carrying a battery in a backpack. OMG, I laughed, it was like a real-life Ghost Busters Movie. I have no idea what he thought was going to gobble him up, but he was definitely (emphasises the humour) going to see it coming!

Photography Photography is another area that has set the paranormal world apart.

The Paranormal Godfather

Gary Sullivan has been a paranormal investigator for many years.

From his days as the lead investigator in the Haunted Australia TV series to Australian Ghost Adventures and Forever Haunted to his present role as the Paranormal Godfather in Chronicles X TV Show.

Have you ever seen a ghost?

In order to answer the question, we need to know or at least understand what a ghost is. I have witnessed many apparitions over the years to which many would term as a ghost.

What are ghosts?

As yet, nobody can actually be sure. We don’t know what they are made of or why they exist. However, we shall always seek answers to this enigmatic question.

Do you get scared?

Of course. It’s a natural human emotion to feel scared in certain circumstances. We all have the ‘fight or flight’ instinct built in. There have been times where a dry cleaner would have been handy!

How do you know what you’re looking for?

Generally speaking, we are only looking based on assumptions because, as I said, we don’t actually know what a ghost is. A lot of evidence suggests we are looking for an energy of unknown sources.

How long have you been investigating?

I have personally been investigating for around 40 years and I am still no closer to knowing the answer as to what ghosts are. Maybe one day we’ll all know the answers we seek.

How do you go about investigating?

I used to base all my findings on science and technology, with sophisticated equipment to investigate with.

However, science wasn’t providing all the answers.

These days I tend to rely on my own senses and intuition as, quite often equipment would fail due to power drains or have malfunctions, whereas your own instincts won’t let you down. Trust in yourself and what you feel.

Where’s the most haunted place you’ve been to?

That would have to be Aradale Lunatic Asylum in Ararat. I was fortunate enough to be a part of the first team to investigate there. There were no expectations, but it certainly did come alive on the first night we were there.

Right from the moment we arrived to the time we packed up, it was non-stop action, from apparitions to high class audio responses. It was exciting and yet somewhat terrifying at the same time.

interview Are ‘ghost tours’, the real deal?

In a word – no! They can be great for understanding history of certain locations and helpful for giving you tips for investigating, but I wouldn’t say you were investigating, just lining the pockets of some people.

Can you get hurt or killed by a ghost?

In my opinion no, when was the last time you read in a newspaper or heard on the news that somebody was killed by a ghost? So, the chances are extremely remote, if at all. However, it is possible that the actions of a ghost can cause you to be injured if you are spooked and run through the darkness, causing you to fall or something.

Are spirits demonic?

Not all people alive today are truly evil and neither are all ghosts. However, there are some downright nasty energy’s around that some

would determine as demonic. I reserve judgement on what I would call demonic.

Can they attach themselves to you, or follow you home?

Absolutely. I have personally been impacted on numerous occasions.

If you feel you have picked up an attachment, then you should consult a medium or spiritual healer and have them remove it.

What is the scariest situation you have been in?

It happened at Aradale in 2006. While investigating the female wing of the Asylum, I felt as though I had left my body and was looking at myself from about 15 metres away. It was the strangest, and yet scariest situation I had ever been in.

I wanted to get back to my body but was unable to.

Then, out of nowhere it felt like I ‘whooshed!’ back to myself at the speed of light.

It was just a blur. After that

incident, I never felt right enough to carry on investigating that night.

What type of gadgets do you use, and do they work?

These days, I don’t use gadgets as much; I have learnt to rely on my instincts and intuition. Formerly, I would have used EMF detectors, infrared thermometers, digital audio recording devices and thermal imaging cameras as well as night vision cameras and a DVR system, just to name a few.

There were many instances where the cameras and audio devices had picked up something that was unexplained.

What was Haunted Australia?

Mystical Guides is a Melbourne based company that produced Haunted Australia TV Series (2007), Chronicles X (with Meadow Media 2020) and is developing the Paranormal Godfather.

Saturn Rules In this time of COVID-19 and economic recession, the voice of Saturn is everywhere to be heard. He speaks of isolation, exclusion, boundaries, border control, law enforcement, confinement, quarantine, responsibility and accountability.

Fear pervades the zeitgeist.

No’s and don’ts abound; no parties, no dancing, no hugs. Keep your distance under threat of judgement, ostracism or lawful punishment. The times are Saturnian; tough, heavy, oppressive. Metaphorically, dark clouds are blocking the light of the Sun, the source of life-giving vitality.

Saturn is strong in its own sign Capricorn, the sign of Government, business and the economy. It is the underlying ruler of the Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn,

that is the prime significator of why 2020 is proving to be such a difficult, challenging year. At this time, it is functioning as the protector/ controller of Government imposed social restrictions deemed to be necessary to limit the spread of COVID19 and keep us safe.

In late July, National Treasurer Josh Frydenberg controversially proclaimed he was taking inspiration for economic recovery from Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan.

They instituted an economic rationalist program of small Government, tax cuts for the wealthy, privatisation, financial deregulation and reduced union power which has resulted in hugely increased inequality, reduced public services and an insecure, casualised workforce that, out of economic necessity, continues to work even when sick. This is currently amplifying the spread of COVID-19, with resultant increased mortality of the elderly in privatised aged care facilities. Notably, Saturn rules over both old age and death.

The Second Wave of COVID and Frydenberg’s speech comes as retrograde transiting Saturn in Capricorn is about to square the 28th and 27th degrees of the November 1982 conjunction of Saturn and Pluto in Libra. This conjunction corresponded to the ascendancy of Thatcher and Reagan and the

implementation of their neo-liberal economic agenda, which caused immense hardship and political division at the time. The square perfects in the first week of August and again during the third week of November, the immediate aftermath of the US election, which is sure to be a period of intense polarization and division, especially given the personality and political strategy of Donald Trump.

Mars Challenges Saturn Saturn’s rule will be seriously challenged by Mars, the planetary god of war and passion, also strong in its own sign Aries, from the fourth week in August to the first week in October with peak influence occurring on and around August 25 and September 30 AEST, when Mars makes an exact 90-degree square alignment to Saturn. I foresee culture and justice warriors [Mars] clashing with police and Governments [Saturn] over ongoing social restrictions, mandatory mask-wearing and the right to protest, for example.

Mars, whether for self-centred or idealistic reasons, wants to do what it wants to do and, when armed with the courage of conviction and righteous anger may just damn well do it, regardless of consequences or threats of punishment. Healthy Ways to Cope with Pressure & Stress

By Derran Heney We all feel stressed from time to time; it is a normal psychological and physical reaction to the situations that life throws us.

Feelings of stress are typically triggered by: • feeling under pressure, competing demands and time constraints • facing significant changes or losses • worrying about people, problems • having little control of situational outcomes • having overwhelming responsibilities • not having enough balance in life An individual’s response to stress and stressful situations can depend on many factors. Some of these include how well supported we feel, our natural tendency to cope and use healthy coping mechanisms and many other individual factors. Also, we may cope well in some situations rather

than others, at different times of our lives which is quite normal.

We may be familiar with our own stress responses, but stress can affect individuals differently on an emotional, psychological and physical level. Let’s look at each of these closely.

On a psychological level, some people can respond to stress by feeling irritable, aggressive or impatient; for some, they may worry and feel anxious, nervous or afraid or even feel over- burdened and neglected. Others can feel lonely, perhaps being unable to enjoy life or feel present.

Sometimes it can be a change in behaviour that can indicate a person feels stressed. Stress can be overwhelming and make it hard to make decisions or can contribute to a lack

of concentration, under or overeating, increase in substance abuse like smoking or drinking alcohol more than usual, feelings of anger, sadness, feeling tearful or crying.

When we are stressed, our bodies generate chemicals and hormones, known as Adrenaline and Cortisol.

These hormones are crucial to our protective fight or flight response, which is essential to our survival however, this flood of survival hormones and the stress itself, can contribute to some uncomfortable physical symptoms including: • shallow breathing or hyperventilating • insomnia or other sleep problems, dreams and nightmares • lethargy and tiredness, poor concentration and memory

mental health • tension headaches and migraines • high blood pressure, tachycardia • indigestion or heartburn, appetite disturbances • constipation or diarrhoea • feeling sick, dizzy or fainting Keeping a check on stress levels is essential because too much stress for an extended period, can affect overall health and wellbeing and may contribute to severe physical or mental health conditions.

What helps to reduce stress?

Friend therapy: Talking with a good friend or supportive person can help ease burdens and to view issues and solutions in a different way.

Meditation and mindfulness: These activities can help activate the body’s natural relaxation response.

Meditation therapy can help reduce everyday stress and boost energy and mood by encouraging deep breathing alongside stillness exercises to encourage presence, decrease anxiety and promote better sleep.

There are free apps that can be downloaded such as Calm, Stop, Breathe and Think or Aura.

Complementary and alternative therapies: Some people find specific alternative therapies help manage feelings of stress.

Essential oils have been well documented for their role in relaxation such as Lavender and Rose. Other therapies that can assist with stress are acupuncture, reiki, vibration or sound healing and massage therapies.

Regular physical activity: Structured exercise and the promotion of other physical activity produce endorphins.

These chemicals, when stimulated to release in the brain, act as natural mood enhancers and also improve the ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.

Balanced diet: When highly stressed, it is so easy to turn to comfort foods. However, following a proper diet, that is especially well balanced and includes key vitamins and essential nutrients for good health, is better for our overall health.

Sleep experts advise that we wind down at night by doing relaxation promoting activities and lessening intake of coffee and stimulants.

Where to turn to for support We all have times when we find it hard to manage and perhaps our usual ways of coping are not enough; maybe we find it’s a struggle to bounce back as we usually might. Talking with a trained professional can help with the awareness of thoughts and feelings and to find ways to diffuse these in healthy ways.

If stress is overwhelming and persistent, a person may find it helpful to seek further assessment and treatment from a health care professional like a GP, psychologists or counsellor.

As I write this, we are halfway through 2020. Here in Australia, we have had the bush fires, COVID-19 lockdowns and, just as restrictions are easing, we have the United States of America in the midst of an uncivil war.

Like any problem, there seem to be many underlying issues; people have been in lockdown due to COVID-19, the economy is taking a massive blow, all on top of a large population of homelessness.

I love a good conspiracy 2020 has highlighted for me theory, but a theory by some obscure things; we are definition is something all the same, we all want to unproven. Like those be happy, feel safe, be fed clickbait headings, ‘x theory and watered, to feel loved proves y’. No, theory cannot and to be individuals. At the prove anything, as it is same time, we create our unproven in itself. A friend own reality; we as individuals of mine posted a historical perceive the world photo with a story that he subjectively, taking external completely made up. It went influences and fit them to our viral and now it’s on the net; own beliefs. What is true for people find that photo and you may not be for me and think the story is true. How vice versa. easy is it to rewrite history?

Most of these theories come down to some invisible, allpowerful society controlling the world. Who else uses an all-powerful invisible entity and ignores science to control via fear?

Religion is wonderful in theory to bring everyone together in harmony, but in practice it separates us. It causes wars, controls us with fear and gives us someone or something to blame, so we don’t have to take any responsibility. Exactly what conspiracies do! I also have no doubt that those behind some of these theories have their own agenda too. I foresee a new dark age coming.

So, you can choose to create your own reality or perpetuate the fear propaganda; chose your narrative wisely.

I had a vision of the American president standing on the burning roof of the White House, tweeting about how good a president he is.

Just like Nero, the decadent and unpopular Roman emperor who ‘fiddled while Rome burned’. The phrase has a double meaning: not only did Nero play music

while his people suffered, but he was an ineffectual leader in a time of crisis. Sound familiar?

Perhaps the U.S. president should have read ‘The Meditations’ by one of Rome’s last good emperors, Marcus Aurelius. The Meditation, influenced mainly by Stoic philosophy, in turn heavily influenced the founders of Cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, which is the leading evidence-based form of modern psychotherapy.

The current supposed leader of the free world seems more intent on tooting his own horn instead of actually leading.

It is 33 years since the first synchronised Harmonic Convergence took place on the 16th/17th August 1987, organised by Jose and Lloydine Arguelles.

That event coincided with an amazing planetary grand trine alignment.

The idea of the convergence was to hold a unified connection at ‘power points’ around the planet, like Mt Shasta, Mount Fuji, Ayers Rock - now acknowledged as Uluru, Stonehenge, the Great Pyramid in Egypt and many other places all over the planet, that were spiritually aligned. Paranormal Vs Science

The mind, like an umbrella, is only useful when it’s open!

Some years ago, in the early 2000s, David and I were invited to participate in a UK TV show about energy healing. At a time when healing was still regarded by many as charlatanism and in the realms of the paranormal.

The presenter, Robert Kilroy Silk, a previous university lecturer, politician and now broadcaster, was known for his radical and controversial views, so it was no surprise that the conversation on the day became somewhat heated.

There was a fair division amongst the participants of practising healers, people who had benefited from healing, doctors and those who poo-pooed the very idea. Several guests told of their positive result from healing, including one lady who was there with her doctor. The doctor confirmed that her patient had a form of deafness, for which there was no medical help, yet after a couple of healing sessions, she could hear clearly. The doctor could only conclude that the recovery was as a result of the healing she received.

At this point, a young man became very angry, saying it was all nonsense and was a placebo effect. He also said that he was working with James Randi, an American millionaire who had offered to pay one million US dollars to anyone who could demonstrate supernatural or ‘paranormal’ ability under agreed-upon scientific testing criteria. During the break, the same young man was haranguing one of the healers, bringing her near to tears.

David went over to intervene and told him that the evidence was there and, irrespective of how it works, and the deaf lady was living proof, endorsed by her doctor. He added that healers were not interested in proving their ability, only in using it in good faith. The young man left.

health and wellbeing The word ‘paranormal’ is made up of para, the Greek word meaning beyond or apart from and normal. The definition implies that the scientific explanation of the world around us is ‘normal’ and anything that is above, beyond, or contrary to that, is to be discounted.

But can we discount it?

We have all had a situation in our life that appears to be coincidental; thinking of a person and then meeting them ‘by chance’; randomly hearing a favourite song of a loved one who has passed, we may even have seen a ghost. These events occur with such regularity and to so many that they cannot be discounted. Therefore, the paranormal, like all knowledge and beliefs, including science, should be approached with a mind open to enquiry – it should acknowledge, evolve and embrace.

Since the 1960s, there has been an upsurge of interest in the ‘beyond normal’, which has been referred to as the ‘Re-enchantment of the West’ by Christopher Hugh Partridge*. He believes this accounts for western cultures becoming interested in yoga, Buddhism, crystals and spiritually based teachings and that the decline in organised religion has led to a fascination with fantasy series such as Harry Potter, Outlander, Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones.

So, there is a rigid dichotomy between science and metaphysics; science will only accept that which is provable within a set methodology yet more and more people seem to want a spiritual understanding of the world and our place in it.

They want to know that their loved one has survived in some form beyond physical death; it gives them comfort and also a purpose for life itself – their life. Some people drop their arrogance of believing this is the only planet in the whole of creation that can sustain life and open their mind to infinite possibilities.

The debate about the paranormal has led researchers to contend that thinking differently about, and not judging, paranormal claims can yield valuable insights.

Should we discount an experience because it’s out of the ordinary and strange? I don’t think we can; ignoring the odd and unexplained has already prevented us from understanding so much of human experience. We need to question, explore and realise that such information will give us insights into issues around community, belief, tradition and knowledge.

Spirit of Things

Personal Interpretation of Symbols

This month I have chosen to write about symbols and personal interpretation of them. I have said personal, as it is really your own interpretation, as others may have their own. Symbols and signs can be received in two ways, psychically including through our intuition and also mediumistically because as a medium works, they can receive symbols within a reading.

We are all capable of receiving symbols through any of our five senses. It is really about being open to receiving and, as we all have a sixth sense, we can also use our extra-sensory perception or ESP if we so wish.

We can even receive symbols in our dreams, which is an excellent reason to have a notepad handy when you wake up, as the more you receive, the more meaningful they become.

When you receive symbols psychically, you can then use them to enhance your intuition and awareness.

it can also change your life through the guidance received. As we are all different, we process things in different ways and sometimes, we question whether it was simply our imagination. But, by writing the information down, you will start to see a pattern emerge, especially if it is repetitive, which will then help you gain an understanding of what is being shown. Then you can begin to build your ‘symbol dictionary’.

Everyday items can be symbolic and can even include colours. You can also see symbols subjectively inside your mind and

objectively as in front of you. You can even find that you are guided to look at something specific and receive a message.

A few examples include: Daffodils – representing Spring, spring in your step, in Australia, they are symbolic for Cancer.

Candle – shine your inner light as you can bring light to the darkness.

Clock – divine timing, time to act, timing is everything.

Fruit – reaping the rewards for hard work Key – open the door to new beginnings or a new way of being Mirror – take time to look within, look at things for a different angle.

Water – about your emotions or an emotional situation.

Cloud – depression or every cloud has a silver lining.

Other symbols can be anything from white feathers, butterflies, dragonflies and birds. Animals are symbolic

mediumship as they are in harmony with the God source.

Some examples are: Dragonfly – I see them as spirit messengers so when they are near, it is a sign that spirit is close by.

Eagle – symbolises freedom and that the person is flying high and at peace.

Owl – a sign of wisdom and endurance and can be seen as quite magical as portrayed in the Harry Potter books/movies.

In the Tarot, birds are seen as divine messengers and that spirit is guiding you. A few other prominent symbols in the Tarot include lightning bolts, which means divine intervention to do with any area of your life.

As your own symbol dictionary will be unique to you, when you discuss this with someone else you could have an interesting dialogue and see someone else’s perspective.

“The role of a Medium is to give evidence of life after death...”

The Star exudes hope, faith and your souls’ purpose, spirituality, emotional balance, to always believe in the power that is you.

Smaller stars represent your chakras.

Seeing repetitive numbers is also a common symbol/sign as in 11.11, 1.11, 2.22, 3.33.

11.11, in particular, is seen as a gateway and a message from the universe. Some also say that it can mean that spirit is close by.

In a reading, if spirit showed me a boat, it may mean they have been in the navy, owned a boat or passed while on a boat. If they showed me the ocean, likewise, they may have enjoyed the sea, they may have passed in the ocean or their ashes may be scattered in the ocean.

Similarly, by seeing a train could mean spirit lived near the train station, went to work on the train, was a train driver, was a trainspotter or their death may have

involved a train.

So, by seeing these symbolically, you can then ‘feel’ into the emotion behind it. You may even hear a noise associated to the symbol, which will then lead to the correct meaning of the symbol. Spirit will help us any way they can.

You could say symbols could be a shortcut to receiving information, whether it is psychically or mediumistically. It is important to note that the symbols’ meanings can change over time as you progress with your development, so make sure to update your notes and in time you will find you will not even need them.

Every transgender child has a unique and valuable story to share, which is why it was so important to take the leap of hope, faith and courage to speak up to adults in their lives about who they are.

Many parents have a history of resisting when their child initially began voicing their feelings about being the gender opposite to the one assigned at birth.

Evidence suggests that children who are supported to transition experience fewer tendencies toward depression, self-harm or attempted suicide.

Introducing September Rose September Rose is an 11yo girl. She is one of five children and lives with her parents and grandparents.

September is being raised in the cultural values of her Mauritian and English heritage. The family are Christian and her Mauritian grandmother is the matriarch.

The children converse easily and it was quite comical to watch them banter, laugh and joke with one another.

There was so much evidence in the home that amplified love, support, empowerment and pride.

September is a TPOC, a Transgender Person of Colour and, for over four years, she has attended Rainbow Connections youth and family group with her family.

I feel privileged to have been able to follow September’s journey over the years and to witness how she has grown to be a beautiful, intelligent and vivacious young lady.

September’s Interview “How old were you when you transitioned?”

“Six years and six months.”

“When did you know that you were really a girl?”

“My cousin Cameron used to stay with us when I was little.

She loved watching Dora, the Explorer and I would sit next to her and watch it too.

I fell madly in love with Dora!

I wanted to marry Dora!”

was a girl from a very young age; at eighteen months old. We would try and push Diego onto September. We got a Diego DVD for her, but she would have nothing to do with Diego.”

“Were there any other trans kids in your school?”

“Yes, one. Safe Schools Coalition (SSC) came out to the school to undertake professional development with the staff and help the child transition.”

Mel and Matt from SSC attended the school to advocate for September.

Due to the school already supporting one transgender child and being educated in gender diversity, September’s transition was almost seamless.

“Stand up and pee.”

“How would you describe living as your old self: pre-transition?”

“When I lived as my old self, I felt annoyed and frustrated.

My parents were not listening to me.”

Joyce added, “I knew that she was sad. I would ask her what was wrong, knowing full well what she was going to say. ‘Because I am not a girl’.”

“Who could you talk to about how you were feeling when you were living as your old self?”

“I could speak to Mum and Dad. My kindergarten teacher was very supportive.

She knew that I wanted to be a girl. She purchased a princess dress in my size, especially for me to wear at kinder.”

“Have you ever been bullied?”

“Yes. I have been bullied.

I was in Year Two, and the girl was in Year Six. It was an ongoing problem. I couldn’t understand it, as she was friends with the other trans student.

“My parents contacted the president of the Ballam Park Boomers and asked what the support would look like if I were to transition?”

The reply from Kellie, the president, stated, “If anyone in my club has an issue with this, then they can damn well leave.”

Kellie emailed Frankston Basketball Stadium informing them that a player had transitioned and the child will be playing in a girls’ team.

After September’s first game as a girl, Kellie asked the families and coach to stay back and have a chat.

Kellie was supported by her husband, who wished to take a visible role in the meeting about inclusion.
