EDITOR’S WELCOME

A MINDFUL LIFE

Summer is upon us, and enjoying the outdoors is essential for many of us who recreate in, live in, or visit the Wood River Valley. While it may seem that endless trails and river access are abundant, it’s important to keep them clean, respect these resources, and observe proper etiquette for cyclists, hikers, stargazers, and those fishing when we are all sharing nature’s best—hopefully for many years to come. There is much discussion about Idaho, and although we reside in the true gem of the Gem State, it’s the longstanding community in our Valley that has nurtured this incredible place. Let’s continue to care for it, and especially look after one another.

SVPN Magazine ’s July issue highlights inspiring stories about events in the Valley and celebrates our sense of community and belonging, as illustrated by the cover and the cover story about Higher Ground and Matthew Krumwiede’s journey. We honor his service and healing while acknowledging Independence Day, the 4th of July.

Celebrating 25 years, the Wood River Farmers Market fosters a community spirit that brings farm-fresh goods to the table and so much more. Read about how this summer and fall’s impressive array of products is all about freshness from the growers and their quality offerings.

At this year’s Sun Valley Writers’ Conference, discover the power of words and take advantage of numerous options to participate and listen to authors who exemplify the importance of thinking, good storytelling, and embracing ideas. Longtime SVPN contributing writer Martha Williams has selected a few authors to get to know and many events to enjoy.

This edition of SVPN Magazine features several local business stories, including that of Forterra, a new company in Blaine County testing self-driving vehicle systems to assist soldiers and civilians on the front lines. Discover how Carey, Idaho, is involved!

SVPN also spoke with Camilla Bradley of CK Bradley who is celebrating a year in business in Ketchum and understands what Sun Valley-ites enjoy wearing to look their best. In addition, read about Naifeh Fine Jewelry and the inspiration behind the new “sun” jewelry line.

In Stanley, there’s plenty of live music at the Kasino Club, which hosts Thursday Street Dances. In addition, the Saints Weekend at the Mountain Village Resort has transformed into a sold-out weekend of fun, featuring music all over Stanley. The Stanley section also includes a calendar of events and activities to enjoy by the Salmon River.

Don’t miss out on even more live music in Sun Valley. RJK Entertainment and Sun Valley Resort are presenting another incredible concert featuring Ashley McBryde, with Mae Estes as the opening act. It’s a must-see. There are also plenty more live music happenings in the Arts Etc section.

Delve into SVPN ’s Fine Art section and explore events, artists, artworks, and activities at the Sun Valley Museum of Art. Discover new exhibitions in Now Showing, and a feature on the legendary Western artist Thom Ross, who has an innate ability to connect history and narrative through art.

Rounding out this month’s magazine, SVPN ’s Wellness section presents the latest musical release from Tyia Wilson, a truly meditative experience; who is being awarded at St. Luke’s; and what’s new at CENTERED. In addition, the Style Dial section provides insight into how to incorporate and enjoy some Sun Valley style this summer from our top interior decorators and designers.

Be sure to pick up the Sun Valley Restaurant Association’s new dining guide, included in this month’s SVPN issue, and also explore the various real estate offerings that could inspire you to call Sun Valley home.

Enjoy the heart of summer,

HIGHER GROUND

Leading and serving the nation through therapeutic recreation

Higher Ground is a national nonprofit deeply rooted in the small ski town of Sun Valley, Idaho. Originally founded in 1999 as Sun Valley Adaptive Sports, its mission focuses on adaptive sports and recreation for individuals with disabilities. These roots remain central to Higher Ground as it continues to provide yearround local programming that gives children and adults with disabilities access to skiing, cycling, paddling, and other outdoor sports that foster confidence, strength, and connection.

In 2005, Higher Ground expanded its mission to include military veterans and, more recently, first responders—individuals who often carry both visible and invisible wounds from their service. For over 20 years, the organization has developed specialized, trauma-informed programs that integrate recreational therapy with peer connection and mental health support. Participants include those living with PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and physical injuries sustained during their service. Each experience is customized to meet individual needs, providing both intensive weeklong programs and ongoing support through local Community Resiliency Units (CRUs) that foster continued growth and connection.

“While our programs and reach now span coast to coast—with veterans and first responders traveling from around the country to participate—Sun Valley will always remain our home,” says Higher Ground Chief Executive Officer Cole Petrie. “It’s where our story began and where we continue to make the impossible possible. Whether it’s helping a child take their first ski run with adaptive equipment or guiding a veteran through whitewater after years of isolation, Higher Ground exists to break down barriers and build lives of purpose, strength, and belonging.”

A LIFE OF RESILIENCE

Matthew Krumwiede’s journey of purpose

Born on September 30, 1991, in Topeka, Kansas, Matthew Krumwiede has led a life marked by grit, adversity, and purpose. As one of three brothers—including a twin—he grew up surrounded by the outdoors, sports, and service. After relocating with his family to Missouri at age seven and then to Idaho at nine, he embraced the mountains and fields, playing hockey and lacrosse while also trying his hand at football, cross country, and boxing. This active upbringing fostered a love for challenge and camaraderie that would shape his future.

That same ethos would later attract Krumwiede to Higher Ground, a national nonprofit located in Sun Valley, Idaho, with a mission as bold as the surrounding mountains. Originally established to support individuals with disabilities, the organization has since expanded its focus to include veterans and first responders across the nation, combining the restorative power of nature with evidence-based therapeutic support. Through adaptive sports, peer connections, and immersive experiences, Higher Ground provides more than just recreation— it offers a path forward for those living with both visible and invisible injuries.

Krumwiede enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2010, pursuing a childhood dream of adventure and duty. However, two years into his service, on June 12, 2012, while on foot patrol in Kandahar, Afghanistan, he stepped on an improvised explosive device (IED). The blast resulted in the loss of both legs above the knee, severely injured his left arm and abdomen, and caused a traumatic brain injury (TBI). He was 20 years old.

His recovery at the San Antonio Military Medical Center and the Center for the Intrepid was grueling, characterized by physical pain, surgeries, and struggles with depression and addiction. Yet, it also ignited a profound shift in perspective.

Supported by his family, Krumwiede rediscovered the beauty in life. His injuries ignited an internal drive to defy limitations. He took on jobs that surpassed expectations: working on a ranch, driving a semi-truck loaded with straw, and serving as a fire lookout in Idaho’s remote Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. He volunteered with veterans’ organizations and spent a year in the Republic of Georgia, building partnerships for disabled veterans. There, he discovered the power of recreational

therapy to restore identity, joy, and community among individuals with disabilities.

In May 2021, that conviction led him to a chance encounter with a program manager from Higher Ground during a mountain biking program. What started as a single outing soon evolved into something more enduring—Krumwiede finds joy in introducing adaptive sports to others, witnessing the way participants’ faces light up as they push beyond their perceived limits.

Today, Krumwiede acts as both a mentor and a guide, assisting others in facing their limitations—whether perceived or real—through physical challenges and camaraderie. At Higher Ground, he guides participants in adaptive sports including skiing, cycling, and kayaking, customizing each experience to enhance both skill and confidence. He also ensures ongoing support for participants after they finish a program. for veteran recovery. Its evidence-based results demonstrate reductions in PTSD symptoms, increased self-efficacy, and lasting emotional resilience. For Krumwiede, the impact is profoundly personal. What began as a program turned into a home; what started as recovery transformed into a renewed mission.

Working with veterans holds special significance for Krumwiede He highlights the benefits of recreational therapy, helping participants focus on the present and build resilience through adaptive sports. “When you’re recreating outside, it’s hard to dwell on past troubles,” he says. Through Higher Ground, Krumwiede continues to inspire, demonstrating that challenges can forge a life of purpose and impact. 

TAKE A BITE OUT OF LIFE

The Wood River Farmers Market celebrates 25 Years

During long summer days, nothing is better than biting into a locally grown plum or popping a fresh cherry tomato into your mouth. Imagine enhancing that delicious moment with the sounds of laughter, neighbors and friends mingling, and Idaho farmers sharing the tricks of their trade. All of this and more is available each week from June through October at the Wood River Farmers Markets in Ketchum and Hailey.

Celebrating its 25th season, the Wood River Farmers Market boasts a full selection: from fresh fruits and vegetables to eggs, meats, and dairy, as well as handcrafted baked goods and specialty foods and beverages. To enhance daily life, local artisans offer jewelry and crafts, along with fresh-cut flowers and plants. There’s truly something for everyone.

Carol Rast of Prairie Sun Farm, located outside Fairfield, has been a part of the market since its inception over two and a half decades ago. Additionally, Rast’s farm started as a backyard garden and eventually expanded to over an acre with two greenhouses, where she cultivates chemical-free vegetables ranging from greens and carrots to peas, beets, and more. The Rasts and other local farmers had been selling in the Wood River Valley for several years through CSAs, but they conceived the idea of a weekday Ketchum market to supplement their offerings.

“Judy Brossy (of Ernie’s Organics in Shoshone) and I scouted it out and talked to Atkinsons’, who was a great partner,” Rast says. “Our husbands helped us set up, and we got things going.”

Starting in June 2000, 13 vendors from Buhl, King Hill, Fairfield, Shoshone, and surrounding areas of Blaine County set up stands in a city-owned parking lot near the grocery store every Tuesday. They sold produce, pies, cookies, soaps, and breads.

A Hailey market also commenced on Thursdays, collaborating with the Ketchum contingent in 2005, leading to the formation of the Wood River Farmers Market Association (WRFMA).

“It was pretty small at the beginning, but it’s grown and changed and moved around,” says Rast.

After the city-owned lot was transformed into Town Square, the Ketchum market relocated along 4th Street. In 2019, the group

moved to the River Run parking lot with the backing of Sun Valley Company. In 2023, the City of Ketchum provided Forest Service Park, allowing the market to return to the center of town.

Likewise, the Hailey market has relocated to various sites, starting in the parking lot of Hailey Atkinsons’ before moving to a grassy lot on Main Street near Sturtevants, then to Carbonate Street, and finally to Roberta McKercher Park.

The days and hours of the market varied throughout these changes, as the WRFMA aimed to determine the optimal times for each location, the vendors, and the community.

“At the beginning it was all cash only, but that’s changed for most vendors,” says Rast of other changes over the years. “Some of us old-timers still only take cash, though. Our farms are too small, or we’re dinosaurs, I guess,” she laughs.

Much else hasn’t changed, although the association reaches out to new vendors as they express interest. And there’s one rule that definitely hasn’t changed: the product must be made or grown by the vendor.

“We’ve had a lot of transformation over 25 years, but we’ve kept pretty close to the same rules and bylaws, and we keep improving the market over time,” Rast says. “Most people just want good produce. That’s what we’re here for.”

As shoppers stroll through today’s markets, they will encounter familiar faces that have been a part of the scene for two and a half decades. This includes Rast and other original market vendors, such as Nate Jones from King’s Crown Organic Farm and Connie Fawcett from Brick Oven Bakery.

This summer’s Ketchum market showcases over 30 vendors, including Squash Blossom Farms, Koehn Trout, Joe’s Juice, and Big Lost Beef. Many of the same vendors also participate in Hailey, like Lava Lake Lamb, La Parilla, and Hillside Bread. Each week features live music from groups such as Dusty and the Drifters, Mia Edsall, and Hailey Mead.

“I’m excited to see all of the vendors and shoppers again this summer,” says Carolyn Helmke, co-manager of WRFMA.

“Local farmers markets increase the viability of family farms, preserve farmland for future generations, and provide a fun and positive community meeting place for locals and visitors.”

Rast is also excited to see old friends and make some new ones. “The people I’ve met at the market are kind and compassionate, and some I keep up with year-round,” she says.

“People have been supportive and appreciative of the work farmers are doing. There are people who’ve become friends over 25 years. They’ve watched my kids grow up and seen a lot in their families, too. That’s been an unexpected side of it. It was a business, but it’s become more than a business to me now. It’s friendship, too.” 

THE WONDER OF WORDS

Sun Valley Writers’ Conference 2025

In his autobiography, Mark Twain wrote of his friend Henry Huttleston Rogers that the man was a “wonder to me and a delight” for his selflessness whenever a friend or cause was in need.

“I dreaded anything that might disturb my ease and comfort,” Twain admits. So, to see his friend take great troubles for others “was to me a strange and marvelous thing, and beautiful.”1

Twain’s astonishment inspired both joy and selfreflection, and his observation is a call to look beyond ourselves to the stories and actions of others.

This year, the 31st of the world-renowned Sun Valley Writers’ Conference (SVWC), explores “Words & Wonder” in this way through a kaleidoscope of topics, perspectives, and voices from July 19-21 at the Sun Valley Pavilion and around the resort’s lawn and venues.

From women’s liberation to brain surgery, Henry V’s influence on the medieval ages to Desi Arnaz’s impact on television, along with literary treats and traverses in

between, the conference offers something for every curious mind. In large Pavilion talks and smaller breakout sessions, attendees will hear from prizewinning writers and new voices, as they share their work, engage in debate and dialogue, and take part in the community that is three magical days of SVWC.

Among those speaking in smaller sessions are poet Safiya Sinclair (How to Say Babylon); fiction writers Liz Moore (The God of the Woods) and Claire Keegan (Small Things Like These); conservative economist Oren Cass on America’s working class; and Norwegian explorer Erling Kagge on humanity’s obsession with the North Pole.

Larger Pavilion talks kick off Saturday afternoon with Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, who will discuss her new memoir and political milestones of the 1960s.

photos by Ray J. Gadd-SVWC

On Sunday, poet and novelist Ocean Vuong will speak about his new book, The Emperor of Gladness. The Pavilion stage then welcomes back the joviality of The Improvised Shakespeare Company ® as they create an entirely original play based on audience prompts. The evening closes with a panel on transformative U.S. presidents with Goodwin and historian Max Boot, moderated by journalist Evan Osnos.

For Monday, the dais plays host to National Book Award-winning author Colum McCann, who will discuss his new novel Twist, as well as former U.S. Surgeon General Vivek H. Murthy speaking about loneliness and connection, and Carl Hiaasen, weaver of Florida escapades, on his newest novel, Fever Beach.

Also featured on the Pavilion stage will be the third presentation of the SVWC Writer in the World Prize, which recognizes a writer whose work expresses a rare combination of literary talent and moral imagination, helping us to better understand the world and our place in it. Past winners include Barry Lopez, Abraham Verghese, and Margaret Atwood. This year’s surprise honoree will be announced shortly before the conference begins.

Many familiar faces return to the conference, including physician Abraham Verghese, journalist Andrea Elliott, former NATO Commander and four-star Admiral James Stavridis, and another funny Florida man, Dave Barry.

New faces abound, too, from the witty observationist and essayist Sloan Crosley (Grief Is for People), to acclaimed novelist Andre Dubus III (Ghost Dogs), and actor and director Griffin Dunne (The Friday Afternoon Club).

This year’s New Voices Fellowship, which showcases rising literary talent, welcomes Nayantara Roy and Yael van der Wouden. And, SVWC continues to nurture up-and-coming literature through its Writing Fellows program, which this year welcomes eight MFA students and recent graduates to be immersed in the full conference experience.

Throughout, attendees can visit the Typewriter Rodeo, where guest poets will craft a custom poem on a vintage typewriter. Or the Art & Words exhibition of book-related artwork on the Pavilion’s west terrace.

“It’s our hope that, for a few magical days, each of us will be filled with a state of wonder through the medium of words—those singular elements of human genius, poetry, art, learning, and emotion,” says SVWC Literary Director John Burnham Schwartz. “This year we traverse on a path to deeper knowledge of self and society, hoping we might come through the wondrous doorways of the unexpected, the unfamiliar, and the inexplicable, towards beauty, empathy, and understanding.”

THE REPAIRING WORK OF STORIES

Colum McCann on Deep Sea Cables, Connection, and Hope

Sometime in the late 1980s, a young Irishman biked across the U.S., enjoying a circuitous route from Boston to Florida, then westward and north. That was now-acclaimed author Colum McCann’s first visit to Idaho, many years before he would write his 2009 National Book Award-winning novel Let the Great World Spin

Known for epic and intricately woven stories, McCann’s dozen books have ranged from his 9/11 ode to transatlantic flights and unlikely friendships spanning the Israel-Palestine border. On that day though, nearly forty years ago, the future novelist found himself at the southern end of the Wood River Valley.

“I was on the side of the road near Picabo looking at some horses, and one of the local ranchers invited me to camp on her family property for a few days,” he says.

Remembering that hospitality, McCann returned to Idaho in 2011 as a guest of the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference (SVWC). He’ll speak again this year about his newest novel, Twist, about a journalist who goes on assignment to cover the repair of deep-sea cables carrying the world’s information. The idea for the story emerged in 2020 after he became enthralled with the conduits that carry so much of our lives.

“Our voices, our texts, our emojis, our emails–everything that we think we are–are running in these small tubes at the bottom of the ocean floor where humans have never been,” says McCann. “It’s dark, unexplored, and fantastic territory. All of it is strangely miraculous and wonderful, and also slightly terrifying.”

Traveling through fiber optic cables no bigger than an eyelash, our words run through the depths, pulsing at the speed of light with the aid of rubber and copper, silicone and glass.

“Such cables have been around for 170 years, and today they carry 95% of the world’s intercontinental information,” says McCann. “Our communication happens almost instantaneously, and it’s hard for us to wrap our minds around.”

Probing our lives at the bottom of the sea, Twist explores our universal connections and surprising disconnections, how little we know and how fragile and vulnerable the system is. McCann is intrigued by what we don’t understand, and how stories offer a way to grasp the unfathomable.

“Stories help us navigate what we’re afraid of or what perplexes us,” he says. “Fiction can accommodate the messiness of it all, flesh it out. Stories weave together and create a fabric we can understand.”

The work of Twist relates closely to a non-profit McCann co-founded in 2012: Narrative 4, which organizes story exchanges for young people. In pairs, each person shares their story, then they each retell their partner’s tale to the group.

“We see this helping people navigate a world suffering from an epidemic of loneliness and isolation,” says McCann. “We use stories to confront that, to recognize others beyond ourselves. Telling the story of somebody else is a real triumph–it breaks down the barriers we’ve put up against ourselves.”

Through narrative, McCann is interested in the concept of repair, whether of deep undersea cables or of our connections to one another.

“If we’re living in broken times, how do we learn to heal? How do we mend across the divide?” he asks. “Times are moving very quickly, and I think part of our anxiety is that we don’t have time to mend what’s broken.”

Storytelling is crucial, McCann says. “Stories get into the uncertainty. We have massive divides that refuse nuance, and stories are all about nuance and getting to know one another.”

McCann will discuss Twist and the power of stories at SVWC, an event celebrating words and wonder across geography and time.

The cables that connect us may be out of sight, hard to reach, and dangerous to fix, but they are also vital, reparable, and offer hope for renewal–just like a great story, or any story at all. 

Shortly after Dr. Vivek Murthy became the 19th Surgeon General of the United States in 2014, he and his team embarked on a national tour to survey Americans’ most pressing health needs.

They found much of what they expected–epidemics of obesity and opioid use, pervasive struggles with mental health–but also a surprising ailment undergirding all the others.

Loneliness, Murthy realized, related to all of the issues he’d observed across the country, from addiction and violence to anxiety and depression, disengagement and political polarization.

The profound experience of listening to Americans shaped Murthy’s two terms as Surgeon General and a book he published in 2020: Together: The Healing Power of Human Connection in a Sometimes Lonely World

“I still think about them today–the thousands of people I met, the stories they so bravely shared,” Murthy says. “And I keep those stories with me as I think about how I can contribute.”

Before becoming America’s Doctor, Murthy was a child of medicine. Growing up, he helped in his parents’ Miami clinic and observed the power of partnership between physician and patient.

“They practiced joy, inspiration, and mutual healing, which was rarer than I realized,” Murthy says. When he became a practicing doctor his work centered on prevention, which carried into his time as Surgeon General reporting on everything from e-cigarette use and youth mental health to workplace burnout, firearm violence, and health misinformation.

Yet, “Of all the issues I worked on, none resonated more deeply with people than the work on loneliness,” Murthy says.

After Together came out, he began hearing from even more people, all of whom were struggling in their own way. He also heard good news: from people building programs in their schools and communities to address isolation and its effects.

“People are hungry for a better path forward,” says Murthy. “We have the opportunity right now to collectively reexamine how we’re living our lives and to shift away from that triad of success (money, wealth, and power), which so many young people told me was shaping how they invested their time and their worries.”

Murthy’s farewell publication from his time as Surgeon General, “My Parting Prescription for America,” offers a new formula, what he calls the “Triad of Fulfillment,” grounded in relationships, service, and purpose.

“That’s what I’m focused on now,” he says, “Trying to drive a broader conversation and nurture the core virtue of love, which has to be at the center of a truly fulfilled life.”

Through his efforts, Murthy is building on the foundation his parents laid out.

“One thing I learned early on was to start by listening. To ask people what they need. To ask how you can be helpful. And then to try to understand what’s in their words and what’s on their minds and hearts.”

Murthy will be a guest of the Sun Valley Writers’ Conference this July, speaking about Together and the importance of choosing community.

“I’m looking forward to being in Sun Valley,” he says. “This is a time when we need art more than ever to connect to this deeper vision of how to live a fulfilled life. Art allows us to imagine something that we may not be experiencing in the moment. It allows us to believe that a different life, a better life, may be possible.” He adds, “Literature does this extraordinarily powerfully. It’s one of the reasons why I’m excited to come to the Conference, and why I admire so many of the writers gathering there. We have to help people imagine a different way to live. If you can’t imagine it, you can’t believe it. If you can’t believe it, you can’t live it.” 

VALLEY FORGED

Childhood friends connect on cutting-edge defense tech

Left, Frank Fiaschetti and Scott Sanders at Forterra’s test range south of Carey, Idaho.

Among the many alluring aspects of life in Sun Valley, perhaps the most compelling and universally appreciated is the effortless access to vast, untouched wilderness, sage-covered foothills, and endless prairies. From backcountry skiing on remote ridgelines deep in the Pioneer Mountains to fishing in secluded stretches of desert streams, the outdoor recreation options are limitless. While these outdoor adventures consistently take center stage in the Sun Valley narrative, tech startup Forterra has found an entirely new way to leverage the area’s abundant playgrounds.

Headquartered just outside the Washington D.C. beltway, defense tech firm Forterra has recently added a critical component to its operations in the Wood River Valley. Specializing in self-driving and autonomous platforms for ground operations–think self-driving semi-trucks and military transport vehicles–Forterra has discovered the ideal testing site in the desolate expanses of southern Blaine County. The extremes of central Idaho’s climate and terrain offer Forterra an excellent location to put its vehicles and systems through their paces in environments that closely mimic the varied locales where their vehicles will eventually operate.

From navigating the frigid, sub-zero temperatures and deep snowdrifts of January to crawling over craggy creek beds under a blazing summer sun, along with everything in between, the high alpine desert offers Forterra limitless options. It is an oftenoverlooked part of the country, and Forterra has Wood River Valley local Scott Sanders to thank for putting the Gem State on their radar.

Among those who choose to explore new surroundings, a remarkable number are drawn back to their roots in the mountains. Ketchum native and Marine Corps veteran Sanders perfectly exemplifies the ‘boomerang local;’ as his strong desire to leave the Valley was eventually met with an equally compelling urge to return home.

“I knew I just had to get out of the Valley and see what else there was,” says Sanders. After attending the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia, Sanders joined the Marine Corps as an Intelligence Officer before eventually becoming a special operator

Beyond simply providing better cost savings for the American taxpayer, many new technologies are being developed to keep American service members safely out of harm’s way.
Handheld control units enables vehicle control and management at your fingertips

After his initial foray into the defense tech industry with another autonomous systems company in Southern California, Sanders joined Forterra, leading their business development team before assuming his current role as Chief Growth Officer. In their pursuit of creating a highly advanced system for selfdriving vehicles, Sanders and the Forterra team needed to test their platforms in an environment that closely resembles the conditions where the technology will eventually be applied.

“We really needed a way to test our platforms in a complicated environment,” Sanders explains.

While working for his previous company, Sanders had been tasked with identifying and developing a testing site, an objective that, unbeknownst to him at the time, would initiate his return to Sun Valley. As luck would have it, the test site

he developed in California was situated on land owned by a family from Sun Valley and indirectly connected to a childhood friend of Sanders from the Valley.

When it came time to build his next testing facility for Forterra, Sanders was motivated not only by a desire to return to his hometown but also by the need to find a location with a more favorable regulatory environment than he had encountered in California.

“I went back to the same family,” Sanders says, “and I asked, ‘Who do you know with a bunch of space out in Idaho?’” The small-town connection proved fruitful once more as he was introduced to a ranch owner in Carey with a property perfectly suited to Forterra’s needs.

Forterra systems specialize in off-road, complex environments

While startup life may not allow Sanders and Fiaschetti as many midday ski laps as they’d prefer, the opportunity to work for a company at the forefront of defense technology from their beloved hometown more than compensates for it.

Above: Vehicles operate in an autonomous convoy at Forterra’s test range

Right: Scott Sanders, Chief Growth Officer

After establishing the testing facility and formally setting up in the Wood River Valley, Sanders’ next task was to look for the company’s first Marketing Director, giving him the chance to strengthen Forterra’s ties to the local community and enhance its local presence. “We had interviewed around 20 people, mostly ‘Madison Avenue style’ people from New York, with agency backgrounds, and I thought they were all pretty bad for what we wanted to do,” Sanders says.

Enter childhood friend and seasoned marketing professional, Frank Fiaschetti. Fiaschetti and Sanders have been friends since grade school at Hemingway Elementary, where they competed together on the ski team. Like Sanders, Fiaschetti completed his full-circle journey away from and finally back to the Valley.

During his time away, Fiaschetti honed his marketing expertise by running an agency and had a lengthy stint with Red Bull. In search of advice on finding someone to lead Forterra’s marketing effort, Sanders reached out to his old friend. “I wanted to know why I couldn’t find the person I

was looking for. Surely this kind of person should exist,” notes Sanders. “So Frank and I got coffee and talked for two hours.” Eventually, they both agreed that Fiaschetti shouldn’t help find the right marketing person but rather that he fit the bill perfectly himself. After navigating the formal interview process, he became the second member of Forterra’s nascent Ketchum office.

Today, there are four full-time employees based in Ketchum, including Sanders and Fiaschetti, along with six other roles located at the test facility in Carey. Being locals with an intimate understanding of the well-documented departures of longstanding local employers Scott USA and Smith Optics, both see a unique opportunity to bring a thriving, well-funded business back to the Valley. For Fiaschetti, an eventual return to Sun Valley was always part of the plan. “I wanted to go out, go to school, do my time outside the Valley, but I always knew I wanted to come back,” he says. “But honestly, about five years into my journey, there was nothing really left to come back to.”

In recent years, new local businesses like Forterra have started to fill the gap in opportunities for young professionals aspiring to live

the mountain town dream. With Forterra’s current headcount exceeding 275 people, primarily based in Washington D.C., both Sanders and Fiaschetti are optimistic about their capability to expand their presence in the Valley and create even more local jobs.

While startup life may not allow Sanders and Fiaschetti as many midday ski laps as they’d prefer, the opportunity to work for a company at the forefront of defense technology from their beloved hometown more than compensates for it. The heart and soul of the Wood River Valley will always be its connection to its pristine alpine surroundings, but Forterra’s early success underscores the potential for non-traditional mountain town businesses to flourish, discovering new ways to utilize the community’s natural resources and abundance of talented locals. 

MEN’S SECOND CHANCE LIVING Legends Pickleball Weekend

This summer, both pickleball enthusiasts and community members are invited to participate in a weekend that combines sport, service, and star power. From July 31 to August 3, Men’s Second Chance Living (MSCL) and the Wood River Pickleball Alliance (WRPA) are teaming up to host an unforgettable event—not merely a tournament, but a celebration of community, recovery, reinvention, and resilience.

The annual MSCL Legends Pickleball Weekend is more than just a fundraiser—it serves as one of MSCL’s primary events to garner vital support for the organization’s mission. This energizing weekend aims to uplift lives and strengthen the community, blending sport, service, and recovery into a powerful celebration of second chances.

MSCL empowers men recovering from substance use disorders through safe housing, comprehensive support services, and a clear path to rebuilding their lives. Guided by the Four Rs—Recover, Rebuild, Restore, and Re-enter—MSCL helps residents achieve long-term sobriety, reconnect with family, pursue education and employment, and rejoin the community as contributing, engaged members. By supporting each man’s journey, MSCL strengthens not only individual lives but also the fabric of the broader community.

“Whether you’re here for the sport, the stars, or the cause, there’s something for everyone,” says MSCL Executive Director Sonya Wilander. “This event supports our mission—and WRPA’s—to foster wellness, connection, and second chances.”

Every summer, MSCL collaborates with the WRPA to host the Legends Pickleball Weekend, uniting tennis legends, local athletes, and supporters to create a positive impact. This exciting event helps fund recovery, education, and wellness initiatives while also broadening the reach of youth pickleball in the Wood River Valley. WRPA utilizes event proceeds to enhance access to the sport through scholarships for college or trade school, support for school pickleball clubs and camps, and the establishment of a community-wide league. Their efforts encourage healthy living, safe recreational spaces, and connections throughout the valley via clinics, tournaments, and public play opportunities.

This year’s proceeds from the event will also support several meaningful causes: a scholarship for a deserving MSCL resident to continue their education and reenter the community with purpose; expanded youth sports access and leadership development through WRPA; and a contribution to The Valley Club Employee Scholarship Fund, which helps unlock educational opportunities for local workers and their families. Together, these investments uplift individuals, strengthen families, and foster a healthier, more inclusive Wood River Valley.

Back by popular demand, this year’s tournament proudly welcomes four legendary tennis icons—John McEnroe, Mats Wilander, Mikael Pernfors, and Vince Van Patten—who return not only for the competition but also because they believe in the

cause and were deeply moved by the community spirit and natural beauty of the Wood River Valley. Their ongoing support adds celebrity appeal to local missions, creating lasting community impacts. Fans will have a unique opportunity to watch these legends in action from courtside and connect with them throughout the weekend.

But the real magic happens on the courts. On July 31, top professional men’s and women’s pickleball players in the country will lead a skills clinic, teaching techniques and strategies to local players. These elite players will then coach 16 amateur teams on Saturday in a fun Pro-Am tournament hosted at The Valley Club. On Friday afternoon, these same professionals will battle it out on the court at The Valley Club in a heated competition that shouldn’t be missed.

“This collaboration is a game-changer,” says WRPA President Lee Sponaugle. “We’ve tapped into the national pro circuit and are bringing the best to the Wood River Valley. It’s not only a chance to watch them play—it’s a rare opportunity to learn from champions.”

SUN VALLEY STYLE

CK Bradley knows how we dress

Camilla Bradley is no stranger to fashion or Sun Valley. She launched her first line of retro skiwear, Apres by CK Bradley, in 2011, roaming the West in an Airstream trailer and delivering her keen sense of fashion slopeside, including at Baldy. And her new store, CK Bradley in Ketchum, is now celebrating its first anniversary.

“Sun Valley encompasses my brand in such a perfect way,” says Camilla. “I am my brand, and I don’t know where else the beauty of Sun Valley exists. It’s a wonderful combination of style, function, and lifestyle.”

CK Bradley in Ketchum is Camilla’s second store, along with her flagship location in Newport, Rhode Island. Equipped with her fashion business insight and refined design skills, which she has developed since childhood by creating short tube miniskirts from her mother’s Hermes scarves in the ‘90s, Camilla understands how location and lifestyle affect dressing, especially in Sun Valley.

“From my perspective, Sun Valley combines the two sides of CK Bradley,” she says. “One that is put together after a vigorous mountain bike ride or hike where you picnic lunch on a peak, and then you get dressed up to go out to dinner, a cocktail party, fundraiser, or live music at the base of Baldy, or attend the symphony at the Pavilion. Sun Valley folks embrace a need to dress up and look beautiful.”

CK Bradley has become a cherished clothing boutique among locals, which is Camilla’s favorite aspect of owning a store in a mountain town in the West. Her clothes fit well and look appealing on everyone, which is extremely important to her. She’s also conscious of trends, but never embraces fast fashion.

“I’m not producing a dress for you to wear one season and give away, throw out, or pass off. I’m making a dress that you can wear ten years ago, today, and in another ten years to come.”

“CK Bradley features a tailored look, and it’s clothing that will be worn for years to come,” she says. “I’m not producing a dress for you to wear one season and give away, throw out, or pass off. I’m making a dress that you could have worn ten years ago, today, and in the decades to come.”

And there’s more than just dresses, skirts, and activewear, which come in colorful and beautiful flowing colors for summer. There are flip-flops, hats, jewelry, and bathing suits designed to be worn with any CK Bradley clothing item. Additionally, Camilla carries hostess gifts. Yes, that’s right—a gift for the party host—it’s making a comeback.

“If you need a quick fix for a last-minute occasion or just to change things up, we’ve got a lot of versatile, colorful pieces including a kaftan, which you can wear as a dress, open over a t-shirt, or with jeans, or it can be paired with nice flip-flops and, boom, you can be at somebody’s backyard BBQ,” she says.

CK Bradley offers practical Sun Valley formal wear and a sports line for pickleball, hiking, and more called Topsy skirts, named after Camilla’s father’s girlfriend. For fall, darker earth tones and muted colors are coming in, which can also be worn in spring to suit the seasons of a mountain town.

“Our summer colors are bold and bright because Sun Valley women are buying dresses for the summer,” she says. “And skirts are back—not miniskirts, but a proper length, which we love.” Camilla adds, “I’ve been doing this since ‘99 while I was in college 25 years ago, and I really know nothing else. It’s part of my DNA, as my biggest inspiration is my mother. With my own family, Sun Valley is a special place for my husband and children, which makes having CK Bradley in Ketchum even more of a passion.” 

SAINTS WEEKEND IN THE SAWTOOTHS

Last July’s inaugural Saints Weekend in the Sawtooths just about took the roof off the Stanley sky and sent the stars rainin’ down fire, so it’s no surprise that this summer’s second annual event sold out in a matter of hours. Mountain Village Resort touts this stellar-stacked weekend lineup on the Velvet Falls Dance Hall lawn as their premier music event of the summer, featuring the incendiary energy of Shane Smith and the Saints, who throw down unbridled, openhearted Americana roots music that dares you to stay in your seat.

The weekend also includes musical artists like the Lowdown Drifters, Angel White, Jonathan Terrell, and many more. Friday, July 11 features a Welcome Bonfire Night with live music; on Saturday, July 12, gates open early in the day for familyfriendly lawn games and concessions, with music firing up at 6pm. Shane Smith and the Saints take the stage at 9pm, followed by more live music in the Dance Hall (21+)

until 2am. Sunday, July 13 brings a morning brunch jam with a Bloody Mary/Mimosa Bar to ease out of the sizzling weekend.

The Saints have spent the last 15 years building upon humble beginnings in the red-dirt country sound of northern Texas and Oklahoma, to the star-studded dirt of a Montana Yellowstone movie set, which literally hurtled them to prominence with their signature sound.

Originally from Terrell, Texas, front man and singer/ songwriter Shane Smith moved to Austin and launched his band in 2011. His raw husky baritone is a powerful lead to the big four-part harmony of the band, members of which include Bennett Brown, fiddle, Dustin Schaefer, lead guitar, Chase Satterwhite, bass guitar, and Zach Stover, drums. Smith’s songwriting is genuine story-telling, with lyrics that radiate conviction about his own life experiences as well as those of people they meet on the road. Brown grew up listening to Appalachian and Celtic-inspired folk and bluegrass music, inspiration that emanates from the way he plays fiddle. Schaefer grew up loving classic rock. It’s these influences that have allowed their sound to evolve—a unique blend of folk rock, influenced by country and roadhouse rock & roll.

“Anyone who stops through, even a single time, would agree that Stanley is a very special place.”

Fans are well acquainted with the fiery intensity of a Saints live show and the band’s ability to ignite the crowd, add fuel, and create a wildfire of energy that radiates between the stage and the audience. Says Shane, “We’ve always tried to put a heavy emphasis on the energy of our live show. We’ve had to lean in on that side of our music, and over time, as a result, it’s become a bigger part of our brand.”

The band’s tireless touring has resulted in a cult fanbase that is uniquely suited to their unwavering approach of blurring genre lines. Smith once said, “They’re so passionate that they not only support the music, they show it to every one of their friends and promote it for you.” The years of raw, redemptive performances are now paying off, not only with the appearance on the hit TV show Yellowstone, but also headlining concerts at prestigious venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre (which the group sold out in 36 hours) and the Ryman Auditorium.

It’s been a decade since the Saints played in Stanley for the first time. They had met Ron Smith, aka IdahoRon, while playing Steamboat Music Fest in Colorado in 2015. Smith, who is the talent buyer, booking agent, and production manager for all live music events at MVR since it was purchased by Russell and Mandy Clark in 2014, booked the Saints to play MVR that summer. They came back in January 2016, in a rented van with a poster of Geronimo in the window, representing their then just-released sophomore album, Geronimo. “We set them up on a makeshift stage in the back of the restaurant,” says IdahoRon. “It was 25 below and there were around 75 in attendance. I have booked them to perform at Mountain Village Resort every year since.” This second annual Saints Weekend in the Sawtooths sold out 1,800 tickets in just hours.

Says Shane, “After that initial show, we fell in love with Stanley and made it a permanent stop on all of our Northwest tours every year since. We love the people of Idaho. They’re as genuine as it gets, and we feel at home when we return for a show. Anyone who stops through, even a single time, would agree that Stanley is a very special place.”

The Saints’ latest album Norther was released last year, with its final track, “Fire in the Ocean” premiering in an onscreen performance on Yellowstone. It’s an album filled with all the electricity and eclecticism of a Saints’ live show, and the sound of a band pushing its limits and expanding its reach. Smith says proudly, “It’s not a one-sided album. It’s got every single element of what makes up our sound right now.” And that would be elemental fire in the mountains. 

THE HOUSE WITH THE VIEW

Some homes are built to impress. Others are built to last. But every so often, a home is reimagined—with history in its bones, new life in its design, and a soul that can’t be replicated.

Perched on 2.8 private acres in Sun Valley’s storied Elkhorn neighborhood, 316 Juniper has become known as The House with the View—a home not newly constructed, but entirely reborn.

This is not a story of sleek, modern architecture or fast-tracked design. It’s a story of reclamation. Of legacy. A conscious choice to preserve—not demolish. To recognize integrity in what already existed and reimagine it for the future.

Originally located on Fairway Drive, the home was destined for demolition when a friend invited the current owner—known for a deep commitment to sustainability and stewardship—to visit the property for potential salvage. What was intended to be a material pick-through turned into something much more: a discovery of strong bones, true craftsmanship, and a structure too honest to be lost to landfill.

Rather than strip it bare, the decision was made to move the entire home. Not for the first time, either—this was a family with experience building and relocating homes in the Valley. Partnering with the legendary Pacific Movers and a select team of local artisans, they carefully relocated the structure to its new site: a secluded hillside with 360° protected views of Bald Mountain and the surrounding high desert. The arrival was met with celebration. Neighbors, friends, and community members gathered for what felt like a new beginning.

In recent years, the rise of pre-fabricated and relocated home construction—both globally and right here in Sun Valley—has

a growing shift toward smarter, more time-efficient building practices. This home follows that same forward-thinking path: a new foundation poured, the structure professionally relocated, and a comprehensive, high-end renovation completed onsite by trusted local builders.

In fact, the project was so innovative that the City of Sun Valley approved it with record support, setting a precedent for the inclusion of reclaimed materials in future guidelines—a meaningful step forward in a region grappling with development challenges, rising costs, and urgent sustainability concerns.

The remodel was a collaboration of thoughtful professionals: ABC Building, Maxwell Structural Design Studio, Bouiss & Associates Engineering, Sawtooth Plumbing, Matt Youdall Architecture, Nathan Shutte Landscape Design, and Roots Landscape. Every contributor honored the home’s original strength while elevating it with contemporary warmth and enduring materials. Roman clay walls, cold-rolled steel, concrete accents, custom lighting—every surface was considered, every transition intentional. While the goal of sustainability was met by preserving the solid wood beams, wood floors, and stone that is hard to come by honestly today, new materials that give the home a fresh modern feel were also incorporated, allowing it to become what it is today.

underscored

The result is a four-bedroom, six-bathroom residence with two powder rooms, two additional flex spaces, and a layout designed for both intimacy and celebration. Soaring ceilings and walls of glass invite the outside in, while lodge-scale spaces offer comfort without compromise.

“What makes this home truly rare is not just the land or the views—it’s the story,” says listing agent Eeva Turzian of Sun Real Estate/Christie’s. “It’s a celebration of craftsmanship, conservation, and creativity. Buyers today are looking for more than square footage. They want meaning. This home delivers both.”

In a time when speed and scale dominate real estate, The House with the View is a bold reminder: there’s beauty in doing things the right way, even if it’s the hard way. It’s a philosophy that places legacy above trend—and integrity above ease.

“It’s nearly impossible to find this kind of privacy, architectural integrity, and year-round sun exposure—just minutes from downtown Ketchum,” adds Turzian. “This isn’t just a house with a view. It’s a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own something soulful and lasting in one of our valley’s most established neighborhoods. It has all the best parts of a classic Sun Valley home to gather family and friends and the modern luxury touches today’s buyer desires.”

Today, 316 Juniper stands not just as a home, but as a testament: that we can honor what came before, while building what comes next. That sustainability is more than materials—it’s mindset. And that a house can become something greater when rooted in vision, care, and community.

This is The House with the View. A place reimagined with the land, the future, and the valley in mind.

PROVIDING EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AND INVESTMENT

St. Luke’s honored for service and commitment

The St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation’s Board of Directors and the Harvey Gray Family recently awarded the 2025 Carl A. Gray Memorial Award for nursing excellence. Each year, the entire hospital staff nominates a nurse who exemplifies excellence in their nursing practice. The nursing staff then votes for the colleague they believe is most deserving of recognition. This year, Adri Klemer, RN-BC, BSN, Admin Supervisor, Medical/Surgical, was the staff’s clear choice to receive the excellence award.

“It is truly one of my favorite nights of the year—a time to honor the incredible work our nurses do every day,” says Megan Tanous, St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation’s chief development officer. “Our nurses demonstrate unwavering dedication to both safety and compassion, ensuring the well-being of every patient with kindness and empathy. Their professionalism and humanity shine through in every interaction. We hear from so many grateful patients who are eager to share their stories of exceptional care and to recognize the outstanding nurses of Wood River. The celebration is a beautiful reminder of how much they mean to our community.”

The Harvey Gray Family established the annual award through the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation to honor Carl A. Gray, an enthusiastic member of the Sun Valley Ski Club. Awards of distinction were also presented in specific areas aligning with St. Luke’s core values. The honorees included Brooke Haynes, RNC-OB BSN–Lead RN WR

OB GYN, recognized for Integrity; Hadly Steel, RN AMCBC BSN–Nurse Manager Multispecialty Clinics, honored for Compassion; Meredith Toevs, RN-BC, BSN, Medical/Surgical, acknowledged for Accountability; and Brandy Herold, RN, ASN–Family Medicine, recognized for Respect.

Adding to the awards list, St. Luke’s Wood River has been named a 2024 Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey, the global leader in health care experience solutions and services. This award places St. Luke’s Wood River in the top 5% of health care providers in delivering exceptional patient experience over the past year.

“Receiving the Press Ganey HX Guardian of Excellence Award® affirms that the efforts and care our team exhibits every day truly make a difference in our patients’ care and experience,” says Almita Nunnelee, chief operating officer/chief nursing officer of St. Luke’s Wood River. “Our focus on teamwork, commitment to safety, and patient-centered care is at the heart of everything we do. We are grateful for this recognition and remain dedicated to serving our community with excellence.”

Press Ganey partners with more than 41,000 health care facilities to minimize patient suffering and strengthen caregiver resilience, with the goal of enhancing the overall safety, quality, and experience of care.

“St. Luke’s Wood River is redefining what it means to provide compassionate care,” says Patrick T. Ryan, CEO and chairman at Press Ganey. “Their empathetic approach to patients and their unwavering support for staff fosters genuine human connections

and a positive, nurturing environment. We’re privileged to be a part of their journey and witness their remarkable achievements.”

In addition to the Press Ganey award, St. Luke’s Wood River has been recognized as one of the 2025 Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals by The Chartis Center for Rural Health. This annual award program acknowledges exceptional performance among the nation’s rural hospitals based on the results of the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX®.

“The Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals award program highlights the best performers and provides a roadmap for those looking to enhance financial and operational performance while continuing to care for the communities they serve,” says Michael Topchik, executive director of the Chartis Center for Rural Health.

The INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural hospital performance, utilizing publicly available data to measure and monitor performance across various areas impacting hospital operations and finance.

“As a small, rural hospital, we pride ourselves on offering the advanced capabilities typically found in larger, metropolitan hospitals, while maintaining the close-knit, personal touch that defines our community,” Nunnelee says. “Our team’s dedication to providing high-quality care in a warm, supportive environment ensures that our patients receive the best of both worlds.”

St. Luke’s Wood River has also been honored with the Idaho Award for Leadership in Energy Efficiency for its outstanding efforts in sustainability and responsible energy use. The hospital made a meaningful impact on its community through staff education, preventative maintenance, unoccupied shutdown procedures, and air handling unit economizing.

“These initiatives are a part of our commitment to sustainability and responsible energy use,” Nunnelee says. “We will continue to explore how we can contribute to a healthier environment for our community.” She adds, “St. Luke’s Wood River is honored to be recognized for our efforts and will continue to strive for excellence in serving our community.”

TRANSFORMING HEALTH THROUGH MIND-BODY INTEGRATION

Solutions to common and chronic health issues

Our clinic is specifically geared toward results-based care for common issues such as sports injuries, chronic pain, concussions, autoimmune disorders, hormone imbalances, organ and glandular stress, long Covid, and more. Often, our results are remarkably quick, while sometimes they require a bit more persistence and determination. In addition to our brain-based approach to these issues, we utilize over 15 different modalities to accelerate healing, reduce pain, enhance cellular energy and mitochondrial function, and promote longevity.

Here are our favorite solutions for chronic conditions through a brainbased approach.

QNRT

Healing in the modern world requires a paradigm shift that integrates mind, body, and spirit. While conventional medicine often focuses on managing symptoms, new therapeutic approaches recognize the interconnectedness of mental, emotional, neuroimmunological, and physical health. One such approach is Quantum Neuro Reset Therapy (QNRT), a technique developed by Dr. John Turner. QNRT addresses the underlying neurological patterns that perpetuate stress, inflammation, and autoimmune disorders. Through neurological reprogramming, it can reset the body’s nervous system, allowing for improved regulation of hormones, immune function, and overall health.

NEUROFEEDBACK

Another solution-based avenue is neurofeedback, a form of brain training that has been shown to enhance brain efficiency, regulate the nervous system, reduce stress, and improve cognitive function. Neurofeedback utilizes real-time monitoring of brain waves to assist individuals in learning how to regulate their brain activity, fostering resilience to stress and promoting better mental and physical health. Studies have demonstrated that neurofeedback can improve conditions such as anxiety, PTSD, and chronic pain—issues that are deeply connected to the development of autoimmune disorders.

AMIT METHOD

The AMIT method re-establishes neuromuscular function, meaning the technique ends pain, restores muscular function, and increases strength—instantly. The muscular system is related to the endocrine system. Muscles can become “inhibited” or shut down due to trauma such as an accident, force, repetitive motion, nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, or inflammation. The AMIT method effectively establishes muscle function within minutes. Research on the muscular system increasingly highlights its importance in regulating the nervous system, the endocrine system, longevity, and bone density.

There is hardly anything this skillfully applied trifecta of techniques cannot handle.

While the challenges of the modern health crisis are daunting, the potential for healing is enormous. As more people take control of their health by addressing the root causes of illness—through diet, lifestyle changes, emotional healing, and other innovative therapies as listed above—a new paradigm of positive health, along with increased awareness and consciousness, can create a ripple effect of health throughout our spirit-weakened communities.

The health journey is not only about individual recovery— it’s also about collective transformation. By embracing a holistic approach to health and healing, we can create sustainable solutions. In the face of chronic illness, we have the opportunity to rewrite our health narrative, not only for ourselves but also for future generations, our families, and our communities. 

Tyia Wilson on her new album Infinite Abundance

At the age of three, after purchasing an Annie 8-track tape, Tyia Wilson discovered her voice. She recalls listening, singing along, and instantly realizing that music was a place she belonged. That early moment marked the beginning of a lifelong relationship with sound and song.

Now, after decades as a singersongwriter, vocal coach, podcast creator, yoga instructor, and sound healer, Wilson weaves together every facet of her experience into a singular purpose: to bring peace, presence, and empowerment to those who listen.

Her latest project, Infinite Abundance, transcends the definition of an album. It’s what she calls a “medicinal soundscape.” Crafted to help reset the nervous system and reconnect listeners with their own sense of worth and wholeness, this 17-minute melodic track intertwines live vocals, healing frequencies, breath work, and layered intention into a deeply personal and profoundly spacious piece of music.

“I use instruments and sound generators that produce sound in specific frequencies that are

scientifically backed to support alignment and healing,” Wilson explains. Through Envelop, a cutting-edge 3D spatial audio technology, she layers tones, breath, and affirmation in a way that surrounds the listener in vibration. “I have an affinity for the 432Hz frequency, which is the Earth’s frequency and aligns us to the heart,” she says. These frequencies help induce a calm, meditative state and make it easier for listeners to relax and receive the surrounding energy.

Infinite Abundance unfolds in five 17-minute “songs,” each shaped by Wilson’s improvisational vocal recordings while in a meditative state. The first three feature single vocal takes that she describes as “standing on their own.” One focuses on sung affirmation, another features the Sanskrit “har” softly repeated, and one highlights spoken word. “For all three takes, I’m intending for these vocals to be noninvasive,” she says. The fourth combines all three vocal takes into one immersive audio experience, while the fifth introduces a guided meditation layered over the full soundscape, creating what Wilson calls a “complete guided journey.”

At its core, the album focuses on self-exploration, recognizing that peace, abundance, and worthiness aren’t earned but are qualities we inherently possess. “Belief is at the core of creation,” Wilson says. In a world filled with noise, she

views sound as a means to help people reconnect with their own intuition, balance, and power.

Wilson doesn’t see herself solely as a singer or songwriter but rather as a channel for self-expression and understanding. She views music as a tool for healing, something that humans have turned to for centuries, often instinctively. “Call it mantra, gospel, or Gregorian chant… for generations, we’ve put intention to melody to create tangible outcomes,” she says. With Infinite Abundance, Wilson hopes to carry that forward by creating music that helps others return to balance, access their inner wisdom, and experience what she describes as the “overwhelming presence of divine light.”

For Wilson, the healing doesn’t stop with the recording. She envisions performing Infinite Abundance live, surrounded by plants and community, where healing frequencies flow through both the physical and spiritual space. “We have enough technology and wisdom to abandon the mindset of lack,” she says. “This is an offering of our true nature…and the ripple effect is already in motion.”

Whether heard alone or in a shared space, Infinite Abundance reminds us to pause, breathe, and return to the wisdom within. 

Infinite Abundance is available on Spotify.

ASHLEY McBRYDE

A country music icon performs at River Run

GRAMMY, Country Music Award, and Academy of Country Music (ACM) Award winner Ashley McBryde honed her craft by playing country songs in biker bars—and it shows.

McBryde wrapped up 2019 by winning the ACM New Female Artist award, receiving the Country Music Television (CMT) Breakout Artist accolade, and claiming the New Artist of the Year title at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards. She also garnered two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs in the categories of Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.”

“I embrace a connection with the audience,” says McBryde. “I think the exchange between an artist, or in this case an entire band, and the audience, that exchange of energy that we all feel, that thing that you can’t put a name on, that’s one of the most amazing transactions that can happen in a human lifetime.” She adds, “I think one of the ways it helps to lift one another up is, I grew up kind of feeling like I wasn’t wanted around, and I think that shows up in who our fans are and who buys our records. The whole point of making music and playing live shows is to make one another feel a little less alone.”

Bryde’s follow-up album, Never Will , earned McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making Never Will the only album nominated for Country Album of the Year by the ACMs, CMAs, and the Recording Academy in the same award season.

Her GRAMMY-winning duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” reached No. 1 and earned McBryde and Pearce the ACM and CMA award for Musical Event of the Year. McBryde received the 2022 CMA International Artist Achievement Award for the most significant creative growth, development, and promotion of the country music industry outside of the United States.

Ashley McBryde’s collaborative project, Ashley McBryde Presents: Lindeville, earned her a third consecutive GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making her a six-time nominee.

“We are super excited to have GRAMMY Award-winning artist Ashley McBryde come to Sun Valley!” says RJK Entertainment owner Ryan Kolquist. “She is huge, and it will be an awesome concert for a great cause, with Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation as the nonprofit beneficiary!”

Sun Valley Resort and RJK Entertainment present Arkansas native Ashley McBryde, alongside fellow Arkansas native Mae Estes, who will open for McBryde.

“Kudos to Sun Valley for having an all-girls performance! Plus, my girl Mae Estes, a fellow Arkansan, out opening the show! I think more places should be doing this because women have been making fantastic music for years on end, but there’s typically only one of us girls on any given bill, on any given festival, and in some cases none at all, so it’s fantastic to have an all-girls lineup,” says McBryde.

“Thinkin’ Bout Cheatin’” became the first release from Estes debut EP and her first video feature on CMT. That same year, Estes was honored with the Arkansas CMA Female Vocalist of the Year award for the second time.

Estes prioritizes supporting servicemen and women, having toured internationally with Armed Forces Entertainment and CreatiVets. She joins a host of fellow country artists and festivals on tour this year, while releasing new music from her upcoming project. 

When Valerie Naifeh, an award-winning and internationally acclaimed jewelry designer, visited Sun Valley in 1999 to see a friend, it was her first trip to the state known for what she thought was nothing more than potatoes. Upon arrival, the Tulsa, Oklahoma, native fell in love with the Sun Valley area—its history, lifestyle, and community. Over the next two decades, she and her family spent several weeks each year in the Valley, where she often had the chance to present her collection at trunk shows and create bespoke jewelry for locals. She felt strongly that there was a void here for her unique designs, but it would take 24 trips around the sun before Valerie Naifeh would open her second eponymous store at none other than the Sun Valley Resort.

In September 2022, Valerie and her husband George were on their way to The Ram for a cocktail when she noticed the ‘business for sale’ sign on the former Towne & Parke shop. “I remember stopping in my tracks and feeling called,” says Valerie. “Even though I’ve had opportunities to open other stores in Tulsa and Dallas, I’ve never wanted to have another retail store, except for the moment when I saw that sign. Not only is this a beautiful place to work, but I know there’s a lot of opportunity here.”

Opposite: Valerie Naifeh, owner and jewelry designer

Valerie had it in mind to produce her own collection of Sun Valley sun jewelry when she opened her store here in July 2023. Now, her own nuanced version of a favorite and cherished token has quickly become their bestseller, either as a charm or pendant. “I thought it was time the Sun Valley Sun had an update,” says Valerie. “Most of the people who wear the sun pendant are women, and I felt like it needed a little more femininity and sensuality.”

Valerie worked very closely with her CAD designer to design a more gender-neutral and slightly beguiling face while retaining the traditional alternating straight and curved rays. The face features either a highly polished or a tumbled finish but always maintains the same expression, even in a variety of designs. The larger pieces feature diamonds in the eyes. The 18k yellow and white gold suns are showcased at Naifeh Fine Jewelry in the Sun Valley Village, with a sterling silver sun available next door at their retail shop, Helios, where gem minerals in the form of small and large-scale homewares are sold.

Valerie’s roots in jewelry design began with an apprenticeship with a local Tulsa, Oklahoma, jeweler.

Above: Naifeh Fine Jewelry store front
Below: Inside Naifeh Fine Jewelry

Fourteen years later, she would open her own business in Oklahoma City. Her expertise in gems and jewelry has now spanned over a 40-year career. Valerie was voted Color Stone Magazine’s Designer of the Year for 2006, and she’s the only Oklahoma jewelry artist to be awarded the DeBeers Diamonds Today award, not once, but twice, the first time at the age of 25. Known for her discerning eye and skilled hand, she selects the highest quality gemstones for her custom jewelry pieces and carefully orchestrates their meticulous completion for her clients and friends. “I love the custom process. The ideas people bring, and the challenge of taking disparate items and making them into something that’s not only cohesive but also visually beautiful and stunning,” says Valerie.

Her creativity can be felt the moment you enter Naifeh Fine Jewelry, in designs simultaneously timeless and on trend, with an emphasis on geometric form and proportion. Valerie carefully curates worldly collections of fine jewelry alongside her own highly coveted designs. “I often hear my clients say they really appreciate my over-attention to detail, especially within form and function. Jewelry is wearable art, and if it doesn’t function in the way that it needs to, it’s not comfortable to wear, and it’s also not visually appealing.”

Valerie says her Sun Valley patrons want something that is important, tailored, and very high-quality. “It’s been interesting to see what works better here than in Oklahoma City, and after almost two years, we are perfecting that balance. People are still learning about us, and they are delighted when they find us. We plan to be here for a long, long time.” 

Mending Across Borders & Boundaries

Mending Across Borders & Boundaries uses the idea of mending—both metaphorical and literal—to consider questions connected to the movement between places and the possibility of culture repair. What is it to live in two cultures or between two cultures? How can migration be both a moment of rupture and one of healing? What is the possibility of repairing or reviving traditions that have been disrupted? Artist Maria de Los Angeles, Assistant Director of Painting and Printmaking at Yale School of Art, visited the Wood River Valley in August 2024 and led public workshops as part of the creation of new work for the exhibition, which will include paintings, prints, and a wearable sculpture—a dress that celebrates biculturalism while recognizing the challenges it presents. ART AND STORY Thom Ross and his American West

The American West serves as a metaphorical palette for many artists, showcasing its dramatic and vast expanses of desert land, mountain ranges, wide prairies, and expansive skies, along with the people who inhabit them and the flora and fauna that thrive there. It represents a living canvas for creativity, inspiration, and reflection on life. For nearly half a century, Thom Ross has captured the culture and ethos of the West and beyond, creating works with his signature modern aesthetic that challenge established narratives, explore historical events, and question their interpretation.

“I fell in love with The Alamo when I was six,” says Ross. “I did not know anything more than what I saw, yet I picked up something.” He adds, “These stories and historical events resonate with everyone because they tell the same story across all cultures, regardless of place, time, or country. It is all myth. When you see or read about history, you often deal with a mythic meaning and how history has been perceived—it’s an opinion.”

Ross portrays characters that embody the mythical and legendary West. Outlaws abound on horseback, larger than life in their flowing dusters. They have sharp and pointed edges, much like arrows. Their identities are concealed beneath wide-brimmed hats, yet a sense of mystique associated with the West permeates the landscape, colors, and subjects. Ross uses a precise approach, ensuring that all his work signifies something much greater than the subject matter he depicts and identifies.

Desert Line Dance  by Thom Ross acrylic on canvas  48” x 60”

“Through my art, these stories can flow over you without preconceptions,” says Ross. “Whether a story is an invention by an author or a reality, it has a metaphorical meaning that transcends time. These parables and human impulses remain the same. You can have these moments. I am not making judgments. It is the profundity that, as an artist, is my job to communicate.”

Opening Reception

Bold colors, abstract forms, and a contemporary style characterize Thom Ross’s work. His interpretation of historical figures, events, and other subjects often incorporates humor and irony, showcasing scenes of Native Americans playing ping-pong or General Custer with a pet pelican, rooted in his research and desire to learn about real incidents. Always challenging viewers to rethink their understanding of history, he blends fact and myth to reveal deeper truths. It’s a duality that Ross portrays, one that lingers and resonates, making his work engaging and powerful— hard to forget.

“The metaphorical meaning of historical stories and events transcends reality,” says Ross. “Everything in life is what you see, and it is what it is, and that is the premise behind my work, theoretical.” Ross adds, “I have a photograph of a Native American sitting on his horse with his polo mallet and polo balls. They played, and so did the Cavalry. I have photographs of the them playing golf and accounts of the them playing croquet in

Ross has illustrated at least 20 books, including a history of baseball, and is the author and illustrator of Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Words and Pictures. In addition, he illustrated the 100th anniversary edition of The Virginian by Owen Wister. His work has received recognition for influencing perspectives and encouraging a rethinking of how people understand history—it is realistic and considered contemporary, even though Ross has maintained this approach for more than 40 years. 

Robert Moore and Ovanes Berberian Artists’ Reception Friday, July 11, 5-7:30pm

One of the shining stars in American art, Ovanes Berberian is a nationally renowned teacher and plein air artist who has been at the forefront of the American art scene for many years. His deep understanding of hue, value, and color relationships makes him sought-after not only by collectors but also by students who come from near and far for a chance to attend one of his workshops. A plein air purist, he chooses to paint on location, inspired by a more direct engagement with his subject. He states unequivocally that in painting, the most

important aspect is color harmony. Ovanes’ use of color, combined with his dynamic, painterly style, brings each landscape and still life to life, striking a chord deep within the viewer. Berberian’s paintings are held in numerous private and public collections, including those of celebrities, professional athletes, corporations, and heads of state.

Renowned plein air painter Robert Moore serves as an inspiration and mentor to many accomplished artists. His technique involves applying a multitude of oil hues onto his canvas and then working a palette knife with both hands until his composition emerges from the apparent chaos of texture and color. The process is all the more extraordinary given that Moore suffers from partial color blindness. Robert prefers painting on location to best express the immediate impression of each subject. His use of vivid colors and frequent high-key values reveals a spiritually inspired joy. His travels have taken him to China, Europe, Canada, and extensively throughout the United States.

Save the date for the Kneeland Gallery’s 34th Annual Plein Air Exhibition featuring the gallery’s premier plein air painters: Steven Lee Adams, Jack Braman, Shanna Kunz, Lori McNee, Robert Moore, Silas Thompson, Ovanes Berberian, and Bart Walker, from August 4 to 8. “En plein air” is a French expression meaning “in the open air” and refers to the act of painting outdoors with the artist’s subject in full view. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into their works.

Kneeland Gallery’s exciting annual plein air event offers a variety of fun activities to interact with the artists, who truly appreciate the attention! Attend events including the paintout, a plein air workshop, and the gallery walk, where there will be opportunities to chat with all the artists and view their work from the week. While the artwork showcases a mix of subject matter and styles, all the paintings convey a true sense of place and meaningfully reflect the Valley’s beautiful surroundings. The event spans the week beginning August 4.

Illuminated Silence: A Still Life in Motion is

Jason Wheatley’s second solo exhibition at Gilman Contemporary. In this compelling series of oil paintings, Wheatley reimagines the still life as something alive and resonant. For him, silence holds weight, and stillness hums with meaning. His work moves beyond representation. Each painting layers metaphor and symbolism, drawing the viewer into a world where animal archetypes carry stories and emotions. A monkey grasps a ripe fruit, embodying the trickster in the ongoing tension between chaos and order. A great white heron stands poised, a silent sentinel at the edge of two realms. Goldfish glide through impossible spaces, suggesting realities that stretch beyond the physical. In his hands, silence becomes a presence. It is not absence, but a space where meaning takes shape.

Dora Somosi

Gilman Contemporary also exhibits the work of HungarianAmerican photographer Dora Somosi. Somosi’s blue-hued cyanotypes are personal reflections on feminism, art, and nature.

In the series By Her Side, leaves and branches stretch over textured paper, each image shot at the studios and homes of female artists and thinkers whose work was inspired by nature. In the series Mending, Somosi embroiders over failed cyanotypes and test prints. Drawing on the tradition of Hungarian storytelling through needlework, each piece is unique and tells an original story.

Rudi Broschofsky’s artistic journey navigates the intriguing intersection of representation and abstraction. Adopting a street art approach within the realm of Western art, his process stands as a unique fusion of two distinct genres. Using the challenging medium of spray paint, Rudi presents bold subjects and crisp lines through his calculated and recognizable stencil designs. Hand-cutting these elaborate stencils with an X-Acto knife is time-consuming, and it can take several months to craft a single image. Up close, his subject matter appears nonrepresentational, but as one steps back, the composition becomes apparent.

Rudi’s artistic narrative is undeniably woven into the fabric of his upbringing. Raised amidst art, he was immersed in the world of Western art as his parents opened Broschofsky Galleries in 1987 when he was merely five. Surrounded by a diverse array of Western masters, from Edward Curtis’s iconic turn-of-thecentury photographs to Andy Warhol’s pop art, Rudi’s artistic choices bear the embedded imprint of this eclectic influence.

Despite an academic background that diverges from the arts, Rudi’s education in business finance significantly influences his artistic style. Drawing parallels between finance and art, Rudi finds a logical connection—the creative process is akin to constructing an equation. Once the equation is in place, Rudi knows what the end result will look like if his process is carried out carefully and correctly.

The gallery also shows works by gallery artists Russell Chatham, Edward Curtis, Kollabs, Ken Peloke, Billy Schenck, Bill Barrett, Ted Villa, David Yarrow, and Andy Warhol, along with a selection of historic Western paintings.

Second Nature

Through August 1

OCHI is pleased to present Second Nature, a group exhibition featuring works by Brittany Fanning, Matthew F. Fisher, Elijah Ford, Emily Marchand, Andy Mister, Maggie Shafran, Polly Shindler, Sam Shoemaker, Ian Stanton, and Anna Valdez.

Second Nature gathers a group of artists whose works reveal the deep entanglement of memory, daily life, and the natural world. Across paintings, sculptures, and ceramics, the exhibition

explores the artists’ instinctual need to create with place as their muse. Andy Mister’s pastel and acrylic snapshots of domestic life focus on everyday flowers in a jar on a windowsill. Meanwhile, interior and exterior worlds collapse into one another in the paintings of Brittany Fanning, Polly Shindler, and Anna Valdez. Elijah Ford and Ian Stanton’s clouds fleetingly shapeshift, folding together reflection and wonder, while Matthew F. Fisher and Maggie Shafran’s paintings consider shifting perspectives. Emily Marchand’s large companion vessels celebrate the often-overlooked labor of pollinators, positioning her lush, hand-painted ceramics as elegies to a fragile ecological balance. Sam Shoemaker’s mushroom sculptures introduce the mythology of adaptation and survival.

Through considered observation and surreal improvisation, the artists of Second Nature instinctively embed the natural world into their works, not as a static backdrop but a living, breathing presence within memory, routine, and imagination. Whether tied to home, studio, ocean, or mountain, the places we carry within us contain abundant narratives.

Anne Siems

Fox and Friends

In her solo exhibition, Fox and Friends, Anne Siems invites us into a delicately rendered world, populated by enigmatic figures, curated objects, spectral animals, and intricate natural forms. Children are the main characters and animals play an important role as companions, co-conspirators, protectors, and sometimes alter egos. Siems creates these liminal spaces that transcend time by placing nostalgic items in otherworldly environments, invoking a dreamlike quality to her work. She offers the viewer an opportunity to meditate on inner life and gain an understanding of how memories and imagination shape our understanding of self and the world around us.

Jun Kaneko

Japanese American artist Jun Kaneko transcends the boundaries of traditional ceramics, exploring the relationship between volume and space, surface and atmosphere. Born in Nagoya, Japan, Kaneko has pursued a dynamic studio practice since the 1960s. The artist studied under Peter Voulkos and other artists associated with the California Clay Movement, a seminal period in the history of ceramics when a handful of imaginative artists expanded the boundaries of the medium in both scale and form, elevating ceramic sculpture from craft into the sphere of fine art. A pioneer in the field of large-scale ceramics, Kaneko pushed the envelope in terms of clay’s structural capability. He is renowned for his oblong, rounded forms known as “Dangos” which means “dumpling” in Japanese. These large-scale ceramics are adorned with expressive glazes and intricate designs inspired by Japanese calligraphy, encouraging viewers to reflect on stillness, repetition, and rhythm.  Many of Kaneko’s pieces are suited to be displayed outside in a garden setting, bringing color and form into nature.

Jan Aronson is a contemporary American artist known for her expressive depictions of natural forms. In this solo exhibition of paintings and works on paper, Aronson focuses on flowers, grasses, and sagebrush, which she transforms through dramatic composition and a blend of realism and abstraction. Her bold use of color is especially striking: deep purples, fiery oranges, electric blues, and vivid greens evoke a heightened sensory experience. Whether isolating a single bloom or magnifying the structure of sagebrush, Aronson reimagines the organic world as both visually striking and psychologically charged.

Thom Ross

July 1-26

Opening Night Reception with the artist Friday, July 11, 5:30-7:30pm

For over 40 years, artist Thom Ross has been inspired by the American West. For Ross, “The American frontier is a place where history and myth collide. It’s full of powerful tales of good versus evil... stories that persist because it’s an eternal battle played out in the world even within our own selves.”

Packed with vibrant colors, bold brushstrokes, and kinetic imagery, Ross’s paintings restore a liveliness and complexity to often oversimplified, stale depictions of frontier America. “Rather than paint in a realistic, photographic style, I’d much rather suggest something of the eternal, mythical quality of the West.”

With an unmistakable style, Ross often paints his larger-than-life subjects on an equally impressive scale. A self-described “storyteller who paints,” Ross is eager to connect his subjects from the past with the audiences of today.

PIONEER SALOON

Walking into the Pioneer Saloon in Ketchum is like greeting an old friend. It’s often the first stop for locals coming home or visitors starting a memorable vacation. For more than 50 years, the Pioneer has been welcoming its loyal customers with a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels more like someone’s home than a restaurant. Renowned for perfectly aged and flavorful beef, many varieties of seafood, fresh Idaho rainbow trout, and Northwest regional specials, the Pioneer is much more than a steakhouse. Unique and historic western art fills the bar and restaurant, reminiscent of earlier days when pioneers settled in this valley. Authentic and genuine friendly service from familiar faces will make you feel as though you have arrived home when you walk in the door. As the locals say, “If you haven’t been to the Pioneer Saloon, you haven’t been to Ketchum.”

Clockwise from top: The Pioneer Saloon originally opened in the 1950s; flavorful beef on the grill; the interior of Pioneer Saloon.

THE SAWTOOTH CLUB

Always busy with a fun mix of locals and visitors alike, The Sawtooth Club has been downtown Ketchum’s most beloved destination for dining and cocktails since the days when Ernest Hemingway himself was a regular there. Nowadays, the place is more popular than ever with an inspired menu offering a mouthwatering blend of creative small plates to share, grilled steaks, chops and ribs, healthy vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, unique pasta bowls, nightly specials and much more.

In the bar enjoy handcrafted cocktails, 16 wines by the glass, and 12 ice-cold craft brews on tap. Dinner offerings this season include fresh Idaho trout, filet mignon, linguine with clams, chicken Senegalese, rack of lamb, grilled ribeye steak, Manchester Farms quail, butternut squash ravioli, barbeque baby back ribs, vegan sesame noodle bowl, Waygu beef meatloaf, New Orleans shellfish pasta, smoked beef brisket, fresh steamer clams, seared ahi salad, awesome burgers and sandwiches, to name just a few.

Much of our grilling is done over a live mesquite-wood fire. We do not use processed charcoal or wood chips, only authentic mesquite logs from Texas. This method of natural wood cooking generates the intense heat that sears in the flavorful juices and imparts a variety of subtle tastes and aromas to meat, poultry, and seafood.

An award-winning wine list complements the wonderful food, and summer evenings on the outdoor terrace are not to be missed. One visit and you’ll know why The Sawtooth Club has repeatedly been voted the “Valley’s Best Overall Restaurant and The Valley’s Best Bar!”

For the late-night crowd, The Cellar Pub offers a full bar, complete with draft beers and daily drink and shot specials. Music and sports memorabilia line the walls and bar. Head to the back room and you’ll find booths for chatting with friends as well as a full-size free shuffleboard table and a few arcade games. MICHEL’S CHRISTIANIA

Few other restaurants in Ketchum are as steeped in history as the legendary Christiania. Known as “The Christy” to locals, the restaurant has been in operation since 1959 when Ernest Hemingway dined there so often he had his own table. To get your own glimpse of ski history, come to the famous Olympic Bar, where photos and mementos from former owner Michel Rudigoz’s time as the U.S. Women’s Olympic Ski Team Coach adorn the walls. For a true culinary experience, Michel presents classic

French cuisine that is also inspired by his background in Lyon (the country’s culinary capital). Your meal will be a pièce de résistance! Entrées like Wild Salmon in Sorrel Sauce and Braised Lamb Shank appear nightly on the menu in addition to an infusion of specials like the Poisson du Jour and Pâté de Campagne. The menu also features Lyonnaise pomme frites and fresh salads and, of course, Michel’s extensive wine list.

SUSHI ON SECOND

After over 30 years of serving the best sushi in Ketchum, Sushi on Second shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to crafting amazing sushi rolls like the SOS or the Who’s your daddy, the chefs at Sushi on Second also whip up other Asian-influenced delights, like Yuzu Miso Glazed King Salmon with sauteed Baby Bok Choy, Hamachi Crudo (thinly sliced hamachi sashimi served with a citrusy spicy aji amarillo sauce) and their SOS Style Beef and Rice Stir Fry.

Sushi on Second also serves wine, beer, and sake. The praise for this restaurant comes from far and wide. Bon Appetit magazine writes, “Sushi on Second, the best sushi I’ve had in years,” and, framed in the entryway is a menu on which Julia Child wrote, “Bon appetit to Sushi on Second.” Come visit and learn for yourself why a restaurant in Ketchum, Idaho, is making its mark on the sushi world.
