THE HEART OF THE VALLEY. THE HEART OF CARE.

2020 -2025

Celebrating 25 Years of Excellence in Rural Healthcare: St. Luke’s Wood River November 19, 2025, marked a remarkable milestone for St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center (SLWR)—25 years of unwavering commitment to the health and well-being in the Wood River Valley. Since opening in 2000, the hospital has grown into a beacon of innovation, compassion, and communityfocused care—proving that world-class medicine can thrive in a rural setting.

A Legacy Built on Generosity and Vision

“Every gift matters because generosity makes possible a level of care rarely seen in a community of our size.” —MEG A N TA NOUS St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation Chief Development Officer

St. Luke’s Wood River (SLWR) and the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation (SLWRF) originated from a community that believed in better healthcare nearby and harnessed generosity to make it a reality. From the start, the hospital has been more than just a medical facility, it’s been a symbol of what’s possible when people unite with a shared purpose.

St. Luke’s Wood River: The Heart of the Valley, the Height of Care For 25 years, St. Luke’s Wood River Medical Center has been a cornerstone of health and healing in the Wood River Valley. As the only hospital within a 75-mile radius of Ketchum, Sun Valley, Hailey, and Bellevue, SLWR delivers high-quality, compassionate care to both residents and visitors.

Medical Services at a Glance St. Luke’s Wood River offers a broad range of specialties and services, including:

Together, they lead a team of dedicated therapists, including Alison Burpee, LCSW, Priscilla Bake, LCSW, Hillary Godsill, LCSW, and Sadie Macquarrie, LPC, providing counseling and support for individuals and families. This recent expansion of services means local access to expert care for adults, children, and adolescents—without leaving the valley.

Innovations in Rural Healthcare SLWR is leading the way with robotic-assisted surgery, made possible through support from the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation. This technology allows for: Smaller incisions Less pain and blood loss

Mental Health Services St. Luke’s Wood River is proud to offer comprehensive behavioral healthcare, including pediatric and adolescent psychiatry—a rare resource in rural communities. Dr. Katie Quayle, a fellowship-trained child psychiatrist and former pediatrician, brings specialized expertise to address the growing mental health needs of children and teens. Christopher Doxey, D.O., Ph.D. offers advanced neuromodulation techniques for treatment-resistant depression and bipolar disorder to patients in need.

procedures SLWR is the only facility of its size in Idaho offering this level of surgical care locally.

Oncology Infusion Services Opened in 2016, SLWR’s Oncology Infusion Services Department provides chemotherapy and infusion therapies in collaboration with oncologists from the St. Luke’s Cancer Institute. Patients receive expert care close to home, supported by highly trained nurses.

Excellence in a Rural Setting St. Luke’s Wood River stands out for its ability to deliver urban-level care in a rural environment. “We’re proud to offer the kind of care here that people often expect to find only in large cities,” says Almita Nunnelee, SLWR’s Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer. “Our team is deeply committed to providing high-quality care in a warm, supportive environment. That’s what makes St. Luke’s Wood River so special.” That difference is reflected in the hospital’s national recognition. SLWR was recently named a Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award® winner, placing it in the top 5% of healthcare providers nationwide for patient experience. It was also recognized as one of the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals by The Chartis Center for Rural Health, affirming its operational strength and clinical quality. These accolades are a testament to the hospital’s culture of compassion, innovation, and teamwork. They also reflect the impact of philanthropy—how donor generosity, channeled through the Foundation, directly enhances the patient experience. “Every gift to the Foundation is an investment in the health of our community,” says Megan Tanous, SLWR’s Foundation Chief Development Officer. “Whether it’s funding new technology or supporting our caregivers, donor generosity helps us deliver care that truly makes a difference.” As St. Luke’s Wood River celebrates 25 years, it does so with gratitude for the past and a bold vision for the future. St. Luke’s Wood River and the Foundation remain committed to expanding access, embracing innovation, and improving lives—whether through new technologies, deeper partnerships, or enhanced services.

The Center for Community Health: A Hub for Support and Connection One way St. Luke’s Wood River delivers on this commitment is through its Center for Community Health (CCH), located in the Hailey Clinic. The CCH provides bilingual, comprehensive, and coordinated health and wellness services for people of all ages and backgrounds. Its work is rooted in prevention, education, and connection— helping individuals and families navigate health care, address challenges, and access resources that improve quality of life. The CCH also partners closely with St. Luke’s clinical providers—offering referrals, supporting patients who need extra help, hosting education programs, and even providing space for providers to deliver care right at the Center.

Community Partnerships Make It Possible

Milestones That Reflect a Shared Mission

The CCH collaborates with organizations like The Hunger Coalition, Wood River Community YMCA, The Senior Connection, The Advocates, and many others. Together, these partnerships amplify resources and strengthen the safety net for the entire community.

Over the past 25 years, key milestones have marked the evolution of care in the Valley. Each one reflects the shared commitment of St. Luke’s and the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation to improve health outcomes and access:

To further enhance services, the SLWR Foundation created the Keith Sivertson Compassionate Care Fund, allowing the Center for Community Health to offer need-based assistance for health-related needs.

2008 Expansion of the Mother-Baby Unit brought more

This past year, the Compassionate Care Program served 292 individuals—each with a unique story, and each supported through the strength of community partnerships. The most pressing needs addressed were prescription assistance, transportation, and dental care. These challenges are complex, but thanks to the Compassionate Care Program and our collaborative network, we are meeting them with compassion and creativity.

2013 Behavioral health services became a cornerstone of

One of the most exciting developments this year has been an expanded partnership with the Blaine County School District. Through a more robust collaboration around vision screening and referrals for glasses, CCH helped 40 children under 17 with their vision care needs. It’s a powerful example of how strategic partnerships amplify impact and reach underserved populations earlier in life.

expanding access to primary care for families across the region.

Whether working with dental providers, school staff, community nonprofits, or specialty clinics, CCH is proud to serve as a connector—linking people to the care they need. St. Luke’s also supports many organizations through sponsorships and Community Health Improvement Funds (CHIF). These investments help local nonprofits expand programs that address food insecurity, mental health, senior services, youth development, and more— strengthening the community’s health beyond clinical care. “We’ve helped people of all ages and from all walks of life—whether it’s arranging transportation for cochlear implants, paying for seizure medication, navigating health and welfare to ensure families have enough food, or connecting someone to life-saving treatment. Sometimes it’s as simple as making the right referral. Other times, it’s truly life-changing,” says Sarah Seppa, Director of Community Engagement and Manager of the Center for Community Health.

2007 The launch of the Emergency Services Endowment Fund ensured that life-saving care would always be available, regardless of economic conditions. comfort and specialized care to growing families.

2009 The opening of the Women’s Imaging Center introduced advanced diagnostic capabilities, empowering early detection and prevention. care with the opening of St. Luke’s Clinic—Behavioral Health, addressing mental health needs with compassion and expertise.

2016 A new Infusion Center enhanced cancer care and chronic disease management, allowing patients to receive treatment without leaving the Valley.

2018 Pediatric services were added, ensuring that children could receive specialized care close to home.

2021 The Family Health Services clinic opened in Bellevue, 2022 Recognizing the importance of supporting healthcare workers, the hospital and the Foundation began investing in building workforce housing to help retain and attract top talent.

2024 The Mental Well-Being Initiative launched, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to holistic health.

2025 The arrival of robot-assisted surgery brought cuttingedge technology to the Valley, offering precision and faster recovery times for patients. These achievements were made possible through the strategic partnership between the hospital and the Foundation, and through the generosity of donors who believe in the power of local healthcare.

How St. Luke’s Shapes Community Health Initiatives Improving community health takes planning and collaboration. St. Luke’s regularly conducts Community Health Needs Assessments to identify the most pressing issues and determine where we can make the greatest impact. From there, we work with stakeholders and partners to define roles, strategies, priorities, and desired outcomes. Our role in these initiatives varies—sometimes we’re a convener, bringing people together; other times an anchor, providing stability and resources; or a specialist or promoter, lending expertise and amplifying efforts. Whatever the role, the goal is the same: to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. These efforts don’t just improve lives—they help reduce the total cost of care by preventing avoidable emergency visits and hospitalizations.

When Every Second Counts: Air St. Luke’s in the Wood River Valley

Living in the Wood River Valley means access to incredible outdoor adventures—skiing, hiking, biking, and exploring remote backcountry terrain. But it also means accidents happen. When a severe accident happens, or in the case of a heart attack or stroke, rapid transport can mean the difference between life and death. That’s where Air St. Luke’s comes in.

Delivering on Our Mission Since 2002, Air St. Luke’s has provided mobile critical care across southern Idaho and beyond—and now that life-saving capability is right here in our valley with the expansion of a helicopter and dedicated team at SLWR. “This critical addition strengthens our commitment to providing rapid, high-quality care when every second counts,” says Nunnelee.

Why It Matters Here In emergencies like strokes, heart attacks, severe trauma, or high-risk maternal and pediatric cases, time is everything. National guidelines recommend getting certain heart attack patients to a catheterization lab within 90 minutes in urban areas—120 minutes in rural settings. Without air transport, meeting that window would often be impossible.

Air St. Luke’s crews are trained to respond fast. Local paramedics can activate the helicopter before arriving at the hospital, and the aircraft can launch from the hospital rooftop or fly directly to the scene—whether that’s a highway accident or a snow-covered mountainside. “Rapid identification, activation, response, and rapid transport have been instrumental in saving lives and maintaining quality of life for patients,” says Blaine Patterson, EMS Director for Air St. Luke’s. “There have been so many success stories—it’s hard to pick just one.”

A Dedicated Team of Professionals Air St. Luke’s operates as a mobile ICU, staffed by highly experienced flight nurses, paramedics, and pilots. Specialty teams are dedicated exclusively to the needs of newborn, maternal, pediatric, cardiac, and critical patients, ensuring the right expertise is on board when it matters most. Advanced Capabilities That Save Lives Whole blood availability for trauma patients—Air St. Luke’s

carries whole blood for transfusions in critical situations. Twin-engine aircraft for safer over-mountain transport—

the Bell 429 helicopter offers redundancy and reliability in rugged terrain. Performance at altitude and in high temperatures—critical

for safe operations in mountainous environments. The ability to transport a passenger—often essential in

backcountry rescues—and being able to take a family member when appropriate and safe is important for both the patient and their worried family; not all providers in the area offer this service. ICU-level care en route—ventilators, cardiac monitors,

infusion pumps, and advanced lifesaving technology are standard on board.

Air St. Luke’s crews are trained to respond fast. Local paramedics can activate the helicopter before arriving at the hospital, and the aircraft can launch from the hospital rooftop or fly directly to the scene—whether that’s a highway accident or a snow-covered mountainside.

More Than Just Helicopters Air St. Luke’s is a comprehensive medical transport program that includes: Fixed-wing aircraft for long-distance transfers when patients need specialized care outside the region.

Ground ambulances equipped for critical care, ensuring seamless transport when air isn’t the best option.

Peace of Mind When You Need It Most An emergency air transport can cost thousands of dollars—but an Air St. Luke’s membership offers financial peace of mind by waiving any portion of the bill not covered by insurance. At $65 per year, it’s an affordable way to ensure you and your family have access to rapid, life-saving care when every second counts. Membership also includes reciprocity with Life Flight Network and coverage for air ambulance through the Association of Air Medical Membership Programs, extending protection across the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

It Really Does Take a Village Air St. Luke’s is more than emergency transport— it’s a commitment to our community. By partnering with local EMS, law enforcement, and search-and-rescue teams, we ensure help is never far away, even in the most remote places. Together, we’re stronger, safer, and healthier.

The Heart of the Valley. The Height of Care. Twenty-five years ago, neighbors rallied to build a local hospital—and since then, that same spirit of generosity has empowered SLWR Foundation. With a singular mission “to inspire generosity that improves health and well-being in the community,” the SLWR Foundation ensures top-tier care remains local—through public support, community partnerships, and investment in staff and services. “Our mission is simple: inspire generosity that improves health and well-being,” says Tanous. “Every gift matters because generosity makes possible a level of care rarely seen in a community of our size.”

Driving Clinical Innovation Living in a resort community presents unique medical challenges. That’s why donor support makes groundbreaking technology possible: Robotic-assisted surgery—In 2025, the Foundation

secured half of the $4.6 million needed to install the first da Vinci 5 Surgical Robot in the St. Luke’s Health System. Patients report shorter recovery times, less pain, and quicker returns to life in the valley. Advanced imaging and infusion upgrades—Community-

funded 3-D mammography, bedside ultrasound, and a refreshed Infusion Center ensure patients receive critical services close to home. “These investments aren’t just about meeting today’s needs— they’re paving the way for future growth and innovation,” adds Tanous. “Generosity fuels progress.”

Why Generosity Matters Operating a hospital in a resort community comes with unique challenges: Seasonal population swings Recruiting and retaining top talent Housing shortages for staff The cost of cutting-edge technology

Philanthropy bridges these gaps. Every gift—large or small—helps ensure SLWR can provide the highest level of care at the lowest possible cost. It’s not just about equipment; it’s about access, equity, and peace of mind for everyone who calls this valley home.

Expanding Access to Care

“These investments reflect our community’s commitment to highquality, local health care.” —DE V LIN AS H St.Luke’s Wood River Foundation’s Board President

Generosity also fuels initiatives that reach beyond hospital walls. In 2021, the Foundation provided a $1 million grant to open Family Health Services in Bellevue—a clinic offering medical, dental, behavioral health, and pharmacy services for uninsured and underinsured residents. This partnership removes barriers to care and complements St. Luke’s commitment to community health.

Catalyzing Community Well-Being Health isn’t just about hospital walls—it’s all about emotional and social wellness: Blaine County’s Mental Well-Being Initiative is a

landmark effort that brings together over 50 partners to build a robust system of mental health care—from prevention to crisis response. In 2024 alone, the Foundation committed $5 million+ to this effort and invested over $500,000 through grants supporting Spanish-language counseling, mindfulness education in schools, and a counseling scholarship fund.

Strengthening Our Care Team High-quality rural healthcare depends on having the right teams—and donors help make that possible: Workforce housing—Twelve new homes have been

built, easing staff recruitment and retention in our highcost market. Employee support—Through the Foundation, 95%

of staff participated in an employee giving campaign, funding education scholarships, emergency relief, and wellness programs. Professional development—Contributions fund

national conferences and in-house training, ensuring staff stay at the forefront of care. “These investments reflect our community’s commitment to high-quality, local healthcare. Together, we’re ensuring that world-class care remains close to home,” summarizes Delvin Ash, SLWR Foundation Board President.

Blaine County’s Mental Well-Being Initiative is a landmark effort that brings together over 50 partners to build a robust system of mental health care— from prevention to crisis response.

Philanthropy in Action

Partnering for Collective Impact

Every gift—large or small— matters.

The SLWR Foundation amplifies impact by supporting community organizations like The Hunger Coalition, Flourish Foundation, The Senior Connection, Hospice of the Wood River Valley, the Mental Well-Being Initiative, Family Health Services, and many others. These collaborations address food security, youth mental health, senior services, and more—extending care well beyond the hospital.

Since 2000, the Foundation has:

Looking Ahead

Committed over $2.3 million to the robotic surgery program Contributed nearly $750,000 in employee assistance Funded thousands of counseling sessions Helped 255 patients in need with assistance funds Awarded hundreds of staff scholarships

As we mark a quarter-century of care, the SLWR Foundation remains committed to innovation, state-of-the-art technology, our healthcare workforce, and community wellness. From technology upgrades to housing to a comprehensive mental-health system, this is generosity in action—right here at the heart of the Valley.

JOIN US—BE THE HEART OF THE VALLEY Your generosity sustains innovation, supports caregivers, fuels community-wide well-being, and delivers the height of care we all deserve. Together, we ensure exceptional care close to home—not just for today, but for generations to come.

HILARY KNIGHT The face of women’s hockey

NEWS & NOTES

by Patsy Huntington

Hilary Knight is the captain of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team—an achievement that would define nearly any athlete’s career. But for Sun Valley’s own Hilary, it’s just one highlight in a resume that’s worthy of “G.O.A.T.” status. CHAMPION AT EVERY LEVEL

A five-time Olympian and gold medalist with three silvers heading into the 2026 Milan Games, Knight has built one of the most decorated careers in hockey history. She’s a ten-time IIHF World Champion, two-time Bob Allen Player of the Year, NCAA champion, All-American, and a record-breaking goal scorer. In 2011, the City of Sun Valley proclaimed May 19 as Hilary Knight Day—an early nod to her excellence.

A five-time Olympian and gold medalist with three silvers heading into the 2026 Milan Games, Knight has built one of the most decorated careers in hockey history.

LEADER, ADVOCATE, TRAILBLAZER

Her legacy extends far beyond the ice. In 2017, Knight and her teammates risked their careers by threatening to boycott the World Championships, forcing USA Hockey to agree to equitable pay and support for the women’s national team. That same fearless leadership helped drive the creation of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) in 2023 and its quick growth. The league’s newest franchises—Vancouver and Seattle—represent another milestone, with Knight leading the Seattle Torrent as captain in their inaugural season. HOME ICE: SUN VALLEY

Hilary and her family began visiting Sun Valley in the late 1990s, and she later made it her full-time home. She returns often to recharge and to host youth hockey camps, inspiring young athletes to skate boldly toward their dreams.

Next year, a new tribute is taking shape: a bronze statue of Hilary will join the lineup at Champions Meadow, sculpted by renowned artist Benjamin Victor—a fitting monument to a hometown hero whose story is still being written. “The City of Sun Valley is proud to celebrate the athletic spirit of our community,” says Sun Valley City Council President Michelle Griffith. “Since dedicating Champions Meadow at the World Cup Alpine Finals, we have continued to advance this wonderful public asset. We are looking forward to adding more sculptures of distinguished athletes from our valley who have reached the pinnacle of their sport.”  To donate to Hilary Knight’s statue, please visit hilaryknightsv.com.

CAPTURING BEAUTY Valerie Naifeh: the artist, designer, and entrepreneur of Naifeh Fine Jewelry by Sabina Dana Plasse

The eye-catching, vibrant, and colorful gems and jewelry at Naifeh Fine Jewelry showcase the work of a dedicated, talented artist and savvy entrepreneur, Valerie Naifeh. Unabashedly living her dream, Valerie’s passion for life matches her uncanny eye and skill in creating exquisite pieces of fine jewelry. Sun Valley was never on Valerie’s radar until a best girlfriend married a Sun Valley resident and moved to Hailey. During her first visit in 1999, Valerie held a trunk show at Elle Rose, which, unknown to her, would eventually lead to a second fine jewelry shop in the heart of the Sun Valley Village. “I fell in love with Sun Valley,” says Valerie. “My husband and I were among the first 25 people to buy an ownership at Les Saisons, and when it was finished in 2001, we visited Sun Valley every summer and winter. I love hiking, cycling, and fly fishing, and the weather is beautiful—we just love it.” She adds, “It’s a small town with a smalltown feeling, but it offers world-class experiences like no other, from recreation and the arts to dining and enjoying the natural beauty, and I love anything that allows me to be outdoors.” A native of Oklahoma, Valerie began her jewelry career at a young age. She started an apprenticeship with a local jewelry designer in Tulsa while in college and quickly developed a passion for model making, casting, and finishing. After graduation, the part-time gig became a full-time career, and she continued her work for 14 and a half years with another jeweler before deciding to go out on her own to better serve her clients. 48

“I have a good eye for color. It’s just always been a part of my DNA, and I love colored gemstones. I work a great deal with diamonds, but color brings me joy.” —Valerie Naifeh

“I moved to Oklahoma City in 1987 when I was 23 years old to open a jewelry store for my first employer,” Valerie says. “In 1998, I started my own company with one full-time and one part-time employee, leasing a small space inside a ladies’ department store.” She adds, “Within four years, we needed to move due to the phenomenal growth we experienced. The next location was a prominent corner in a strip shopping center, which I occupied for 17 years.” Knowing that change was necessary through a remodel or a move, Valerie relocated to a premier 5,000-squarefoot space in Nichols Hills Plaza in Oklahoma City in 2019. Growth has continued, and another expansion was just completed in October, increasing showroom, production, and office space to 8,000-square-feet. Valerie earned a reputation in Oklahoma City for redesigning and repurposing jewelry. She developed a loyal following, which helped her expand her business and earn several national and international design awards in the mid-1990s, including the DeBeers Diamonds Today and the Japanese International Pearl Competition. Moving forward as a sought-after designer with a fierce work ethic and stellar reputation, Valerie was able to offer more services and create unique and beautifully executed fine jewelry. “America is a young country compared to Europe, and the approach to jewelry sales here has been more about volume, unlike Europe,” explains Valerie. “Designers

like me, making original, one-off pieces, only started to take off in the 1980s.” She adds, “I was very fortunate early in my career to work with a jewelry designer who was my mentor and who bought colored gemstones and pearls overseas. She started taking me to Hong Kong and Bangkok. While traveling in Asia, I learned the ins and outs of buying colored gemstones and pearls in foreign markets. I have a good eye for color. It’s just always been a part of my DNA, and I love colored gemstones. I work a great deal with diamonds, but color brings me joy.” Valerie is always upfront and honest about stones and gems, including lab-created diamonds and colored-treated gems. In addition to her own work, Valerie represents other fine jewelry collections in her stores and several watch brands. Among them are avant-garde German designer Peter Schmid of Atelier Zobel, one of the finest metalsmiths working today, and Robert Procop of Beverly Hills, a highly acclaimed gemologist. Procop once served Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and cared for the crown jewels at the Tower of London. A friend and colleague of Valerie’s, Procop enjoys his visits to Sun Valley. Over the years, Valerie has built a vast network of industry connections, surrounding herself with authentic and talented jewelers she deeply admires. As she navigates the evolving jewelry industry, especially regarding diamonds, it is vital to distinguish genuine stones from those that come from a laboratory. The trend is shifting because lab-created 52

diamonds lack real value, while diamonds mined from the earth will eventually be unavailable. “At our stores, we prioritize education first,” says Valerie. “Although we don’t stock lab-created diamonds, we will source whatever our clients desire.” After many years of visiting, vacationing, and hosting trunk shows in Sun Valley, Valerie realized there was no jewelry store providing a luxury retail experience for the high-end clientele who spend all or part of the year in Sun Valley. “I have had opportunities to open additional retail stores in Dallas and Tulsa, and I have always said no. I did not want to open another retail store because of how I structured my brand. Still, the trunk shows I did at Elle Rose and Hamilton Jewelers showed me the potential in Sun Valley,” says Valerie. “My husband, George, and I were here vacationing in October of 2022 when I saw the ‘for sale’ sign on the door of Towne & Parke Jewelry at the Resort.” She adds, “George did all the heavy lifting,

Always on trend, Valerie keeps an eye on what clients are requesting. Whether it’s the growing popularity of brooches, especially for men, or prong settings and sculptural, asymmetrical yellow gold rings, she knows her business and gemstones and gold will always stay in style. “Right now, many popular styles and pieces from the 1980s are making a comeback,” she says. “In our bridal department, for the past 25 years, most people preferred white gold or platinum engagement rings and wedding bands, but now everyone is choosing yellow gold, a trend from the 1980s.” Valerie adds, “Over time, precious metals perform like the stock market, but they are finite, and many areas where they exist are environmentally protected, never to be mined. However, what exists can be recycled and repurposed and may appreciate with time.” 

SUN VALLEY CULINARY INSTITUTE PRESENTS

THE 2026 SUN VALLEY FOOD & WINE CELEBRATION January 27–31 by Sabina Dana Plasse

When the Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration (SVFWC) debuted in 2022, four highly acclaimed chefs traveled to Sun Valley, Idaho, to cook, eat, drink, and celebrate the culinary arts. Launched with a clear mission to support the Sun Valley Culinary Institute’s (SVCI) Professional Program and its partnerships with restaurant and hospitality leaders across the Wood River Valley and beyond, the Celebration has grown in four years as one of the region’s most acclaimed events. The four chefs—Jonathon Sawyer, Ethan Stowell, Jason Wilson, and Britt Rescigno—return in 2026 and are joined by 13 other celebrated chefs for five days of food events, tastings, galas, dinners, and classes. Since their debut in Sun Valley, chefs Ethan Stowell and Britt Rescigno have opened thriving restaurants in Idaho. Fiamma, owned and operated by Chef Rescigno and her wife Chef Kinsey Leodler-Rescigno, has elevated Ketchum’s dining scene, and Chef Stowell’s Tavolàta has established a significant presence in Boise. In addition, Chef Jonathon Sawyer has become a regular visitor and avid skier in Sun Valley, and you can join him for skiing and lunch at The Roundhouse at this year’s Celebration. There is also great excitement for the return of the beloved Chef Jason Wilson, who is the chef of the luxurious Casia Lodge & Ranch in North Central Washington.

“In four short years, the SVFWC has become a signature highlight of the Sun Valley winter season,” says SVCI Executive Director Karl Uri. “With 17 celebrity and James Beard Award–winning chefs, the momentum and growth have been extraordinary. What excites me most is the impact on our students—these chefs roll up their sleeves, work side-by-side with them, and open doors to training, mentorship, and professional connections that will shape their futures in this industry.” Adding to this year’s lineup is the return of Chefs Barton Seaver and John Sundstrom, who will host a “Sustainable Seafood Lecture” at The Community Library, along with preparing dinners. Also returning from 2025 are Chefs Kelsey Barnard Clark and Steve Phelps, who will join new SVFWC participants Chefs Casey Thompson, Duskie Estes & John Stewart, Joe Sasto, Brandon Randolph, Kris Padalino, Maria Mazon, Brother Luck, and Chef and American food influencer Tieghan Gerard. From multi-course dinners in private homes and cooking classes to the third annual Après Ski Grand Tasting at the Limelight Ketchum—and the debut of the Wine Tasting & Seafood Extravaganza at the same venue—attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy an exceptional range of dishes from every participating chef. New to this year’s Celebration lineup is the debut of the Trail Creek Cabin Dinner and DJ party, featuring five Celebration chefs and music by DJ Brother Luck. Curated with Idaho food purveyors, farmers, ranchers, growers, and winemakers, along with some of the Pacific Northwest’s best seafood and other notable delicacies, the Celebration will delight all food and wine lovers. Since its debut, the SVFWC has been supported by the Wood River Valley’s local chefs and dining establishments, many of which will participate in this year’s events. A unique mountain town winter experience, the Celebration will showcase regional cuisine from around the country paired with notable wines, drinks, and spirits for a sensational culinary experience. 

SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD & EDUCATION The Sun Valley Culinary Institute (SVCI) and Sun Valley Food & Wine Celebration are proudly committed to promoting seafood sustainability, from cooking classes to the Professional Program and all aspects of SVCI, including dinners and events. “Our partnerships with Alaska Weathervane Scallops, Bristol Bay Salmon, Riverence, and so many more purveyors support SVCI’s commitment to seafood sustainability,” says SVCI Executive Director Karl Uri. “Living inland away from the ocean, we often do not consider where our seafood comes from. It is important for us to educate not only our students but also the community.” To educate and promote seafood sustainability, the Celebration presents a free lecture at The Community Library in Ketchum featuring Chefs Barton Seaver and John Sundstrom moderated by Uri, who spent many years working in Alaska’s commercial fishing industry. Chef Seaver, dedicated to protecting the ocean’s delicate ecosystem, has been recognized as a leader in ocean sustainability by the Seafood Choices Alliance and was named a fellow at the Blue Ocean Institute. His numerous cookbooks explore sustainable aquaculture, his work for Seafood That Matters, and tasty seafood recipes. Sharing this philosophy, Chef Sundstrom will present his innovative approach to cuisine and sustainability, which is central to his award-winning restaurant, Lark, in Seattle, Washington. 64

Additionally, Chef Stephen Phelps, owner of Indigenous in Sarasota, Florida, has dedicated a great deal of effort and time to seafood sustainability, which shows in the impeccable balance of his dishes. He serves on the Seafood Watch Blue Ribbon Task Force and is a founding member of the Chefs Board for the EDF Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture. His concerns and involvement in sustainability have earned him praise from conservation organizations nationwide, especially for his philosophy—good sourcing and respect for the planet. “Making people think more about food, changes the way they eat,” says Phelps. “Seeking out the best ingredients, we can protect our oceans, lands, and farms.” He adds, “The recirculating tanks and technology are vastly improved, and it’s fascinating. As a restaurant owner, I rely on it, and, no doubt, this is the future for our oceans, lands, and farms.” All of the Celebration’s chefs at this year’s event are dedicated to sustainable seafood practices, and most will showcase their regional seafood cuisine in Sun Valley. EMBRACING THE PERFORMING ARTS

The Argyros plans for the future by Sabina Dana Plasse

Experiencing the performing arts, whether it’s the Grammy Awardwinning Bela Fleck, the next generation of ballet performers from the San Francisco Ballet School Pre-Professional Dancers, or hosting new events such as Sun Valley Ballroom, presented by the Sun Valley Culinary Institute, with internationally renowned dancers—the intimate and sophisticated space of the Argyros Performing Arts Center makes attending these performances even more special. Celebrating its seven-year anniversary, The Argyros has become a central hub for the performing arts in Ketchum, while also offering a top-tier space for community businesses and nonprofits. It hosts everything from galas and live entertainment and also serves as a headquarters for many of Sun Valley’s most renowned events and festivals. Executive Director Melissa Mathews continues to highlight The Argyros as a crucial part of not only Ketchum’s Main Street vitality but also the entire Wood River Valley community through dedicated efforts in development, market expansion, attracting new supporters, increasing event visibility, and elevating The Argyros’ national recognition, all of which Mathews sees as very important. “I rely heavily on our marketing committee with input from our board and team as we expand our marketing and communications, which has been impactful and necessary using all available platforms,” says Mathews. “We are always exploring new ways to engage and grow, especially to achieve national recognition.” She adds, “We also consider our audience segmentation, which svpn-mag.com

includes tourists and part-time homeowners, mainly here for winter and summer, as well as how we meet the needs of our local community. We work on programming and ticketing that is for everyone.” One noticeable shift is that The Argyros is working to announce broader performance seasons that showcase a range of recognizable, high-caliber artists—presented within an intimate setting designed to provide performers with the best possible technology to support their artistic visions. “We send offers and book larger artists who are used to performing for audiences of 3,000 in a venue that seats roughly 300, creating a unique experience you can’t find in many other places,” says Mathews. “We have to remind ourselves how fortunate we are to have a space like this in a community of our size. We not only give our patrons and community the chance to 70

connect with world-class artists in an intimate setting, but we also offer performers a place removed from the rush of the big city—somewhere they can focus on their craft, premiere new work, and share parts of their creative process that audiences rarely get to witness. All of this is made possible by the support of our donors, who help give us the sustainability we need to continue growing.” As the Sun Valley community continues to attract new residents and visitors, The Argyros is ready to welcome them with the return of its Sun Valley Songwriter Series featuring Tyler Hubbard and other artists this January as well as the continued collaboration with the Sun Valley Playwright’s Residency, hosting the Sun Valley Music Festival Winter Series, and bringing artists from around the world to perform as part of the Argyros Presents 2026 Winter Season—this is only a glimpse of what’s to come. ST. LUKE’S WOOD RIVER ACHIEVES FOR COMMUNITY

Honored with Caring Heart Award and Level IV Trauma Center redesignation

svpn-mag.com

WELLNESS | ST LUKE’S Siobhan Jameson and Chris Roth, St. Luke’s Health System CEO

Siobhan Jameson receives Caring Heart Award Caring people are the heart of St. Luke’s. They are the reason the organization exists, the reason it succeeds, and the reason it will continue to thrive in the future. The Caring Heart Awards honor individuals and recognize their unique talents and contributions to both St. Luke’s and the community they serve. Awards include The Spirit of St. Luke’s, Excellence in Patient Care, Excellence in Service, Provider Excellence, Excellence in Leadership, and Excellence in Teamwork. Siobhan Jameson, RN, BSN, CNOR, Assistant Nurse Manager of Surgical Services at St. Luke’s Wood River, received the Excellence in Leadership award, which honors both clinical and non-clinical leaders who exemplify St. Luke’s ICARE (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) values and Always Behaviors while empowering and involving their teams. On October 15, 2025, Jameson was honored at the Caring Heart Awards ceremony in Boise, Idaho, joining a select group of team members recognized from over 18,000 employees across the health system. Jameson was nominated by Etta Wood, the Manager of Perioperative Services at St. Luke’s Wood River, who commended her for her transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to her team. “Siobhan leads with heart,” Wood shares. “She arrives early to set up her team for success, advocates for their well-being, and listens deeply to their needs. Her compassion is felt in every corner of the department.” In her first year of leadership, Jameson faced challenges head-on, using feedback to strengthen team relationships and dramatically improve engagement scores. “She didn’t shy away from tough conversations,” Wood notes. “She leaned in, took ownership, and built trust. That’s integrity in action.”

Jameson’s leadership has also driven innovation and excellence. She spearheaded the launch of a new robotics program at St. Luke’s Wood River, which required months of planning, coordination across multiple service lines, and significant operational changes. Her hands-on approach ensured that staff, surgeons, and vendors were aligned and prepared. From adjusting block schedules and updating policies to training clinical teams and coordinating construction, Jameson was instrumental in every phase. The program not only expanded surgical capabilities but also enhanced patient care and access to advanced procedures in the Wood River Valley. A vendor praised the site as the most prepared new venue they had ever onboarded. By advocating for safer surgical practices and more balanced work schedules, Jameson has helped create a more supportive environment for caregivers—ultimately benefiting the patients they serve. Her leadership ensures that innovation and compassion go hand-in-hand, improving outcomes and strengthening trust across the community. Jameson has also been recognized for her excellence, receiving a Nursing Excellence Award for Structural Empowerment from St. Luke’s Health System in 2018 and 2021. She also received the Carl A. Gray Memorial Award for Nursing Excellence, presented by the St. Luke’s Wood River Foundation and the Harvey Gray Family. “She is highly regarded for her nursing skills, work ethic, and compassionate care,” says Megan Tanous, Chief Development Officer of the Foundation. “I can’t believe how lucky we are to have her.” 

Level IV Trauma Center redesignation with zero deficiencies

Once again, St. Luke’s Wood River has been recognized by the Idaho Time Sensitive Emergency (TSE) Council as a Level IV Trauma Center, following a rigorous site survey that resulted in zero deficiencies—a rare and commendable achievement. This redesignation marks the second for Wood River since its initial designation in 2019, reflecting the hospital’s ongoing excellence in trauma care. Level IV trauma centers play a vital role in rural communities, providing rapid assessment, stabilization, and seamless transfer to higher-level centers when needed. “This designation reflects the ongoing commitment of the St. Luke’s Health System to provide quality trauma care at all levels,” says Brittany Mcfarland, BSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, SLWR TSE Trauma Program Manager. “I am proud of the continued collaboration of our staff, physicians, and EMS partners to provide the best possible care for our community. We appreciate the Idaho State TSE and contracted surveyors’ compliments and insights on how to improve our processes to better serve our population.”

LOVE YOUR SKIN Discover Dr. Catherine A. Ramsay at Ketchum Dermatology

by Sabina Dana Plasse

The Sun Valley area attracts many people with diverse skills and practices. For Dr. Catherine A. Ramsay, visits to Sun Valley eventually led her to become a full-time resident and start a new chapter in her life with her own dermatology practice, Ketchum Dermatology. “Medicine is a second career for me,” says Dr. Ramsay. “I decided to go into dermatology right before the cosmetic boom, so I started as a straightforward medical-surgical dermatologist. As the field expanded, I really loved its breadth and being able to use an artistic approach to my care of patients. She adds, “You can have an impact, and you can save lives. You can make people so much happier by clearing up acne, finding the cause of an itchy rash or helping them to look on the outside how they feel on the inside.” When Dr. Ramsay retired early to be with her husband, Sheldon, and their dog Bow Wow in the Wood River Valley, she saw the need for dermatologic care. By starting a private practice that provides a full range of dermatologic care, along with the newest and safest advanced technology for healthy, beautiful skin, she can provide much-needed care while still enjoying skiing, travel, and other hobbies.

122

“Everyone in Sun Valley loves the outdoors, and we spend a lot of time outside having fun, but we are accumulating sun damage,” says Dr. Ramsay. “We rely on sun-protective clothing, good sunscreens, sun avoidance, and seeking shade, but we want to live our lives and have fun. It’s a matter of protecting ourselves, which is why my logo is ‘Fun in the Sun Undone.’” She adds, “Sun Valley is a sophisticated community, and patients are very well informed, and many of them have had procedures before, so they know what they want. It’s nice to be able to offer them the latest technology here so they do not have to travel.” Dr. Ramsay is a board-certified UCSFtrained dermatologist who treats skin cancers and disorders of skin, hair, and nails. She also offers anti-aging treatments, including BOTOX®, Dysport®, a full range of fillers, Fractional CO2, Derma light KTP, MOXI®, BBL®, HEROicTM, and ellacor® 2.0 MicroCoring® Technology.  Ketchum Dermatology is a direct-pay practice providing cosmetic, medical, and surgical dermatology services. Dr. Craig Buhler, my trusted friend and mentor with a heart of gold, has worked persistently and consistently for over 40 years at the highest level of sports performance, achieving results many thought impossible. As we look toward the future of healthcare—a future that empowers individuals and prevents chronic illness and pain—the AMIT™ Method is at the top of my list of tools for maintaining a healthy, active, high-energy lifestyle. This method alleviates pain, predicts and prevents injury, and helps people reach their full human potential. Can you share how the Advanced Muscular Integration Technique Method works? 124

WELLNESS | CENTERED

DR. CRAIG BUHLER: When a muscle is injured, it

compromises its integrity. One or two things happen. You either tear the muscle or the central nervous system inhibits it to protect it, much like a circuit breaker. It does this to safeguard the muscle during healing. As a result, the body adapts the muscles next to the injured ones to take the load off the damaged muscle. Because these pathways of the injured muscle become less used, they become dormant. Meanwhile, the muscles you’ve adapted to become your main motor pathways back to the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Even though the muscles heal, these pathways remain dormant. The problem is, when we go from injury to adaptation, the adapted muscles can become the next site of injury. This leads to another adaptation, and over time, these injury adaptations accumulate in the body. Eventually, there’s nothing left to adapt, resulting in chronic pain. These imbalances can persist for a lifetime. DR. MOLLY BROWN: So if it healed, how come that old injury is coming back? DR. CRAIG BUHLER: Because those muscles had

become inhibited and never reactivated. That’s what makes the advanced muscle integration technique so important—a true game-changer. We can identify where those muscles are, and then the therapy we’ve developed by integrating various disciplines flips the switches back on. You might have a muscle that can produce 12 pounds of force for half a second. After treatment, it can generate 40 pounds of force, hold it for three to four seconds without giving way, and the pain is gone.

“You might have a muscle that can produce 12 pounds of force for half a second. After treatment, it can generate 40 pounds of force, hold it for three to four seconds without giving way, and the pain is gone.” —Dr. Craig Buhler svpn-mag.com

DR. MOLLY BROWN: That’s why I love

using this technique, especially for youth sports. If you take a talented and disciplined athlete who sustains a minor acute injury, it would usually sideline them for an entire season. But with this method, we can have them back the next day. No days missed. It’s a complete game-changer. They can return to the field or the ski race better than ever, with no time lost to injury. DR. CRAIG BUHLER: Dr. Alan Beardall,

who developed the technique, was a nationally ranked distance runner. In fact, he actually worked with the two guys who started Nike. He had a strong connection with the athletic community in Oregon. But he found that he would treat athletes, and they’d be fine on the table, but then when they went out to compete, they’d break down again. And he asked, ‘Why don’t they hold?’ That’s what motivated him to start digging deeper. I remember being in his clinic observing, and he was working with a Trail Blazers basketball player who had medial knee pain. Alan said, ’Show me the position that you’re in when you feel the pain.’ So he got off the table, went into a slight squat, and rotated, which elicited pain. Then he had him lie back on the table, put his leg in that position, and muscle tested through that plane of motion. He had no control, and it replicated the pain he experienced. DR. MOLLY BROWN: It’s so exciting because when someone comes in with muscular or neuromuscular pain, we can use this advanced muscular integration technique to quickly and precisely identify the source of the pain, activate the muscle, and clear it.  For more information on the AMIT™ Method and to hear the full podcast episode, visit drmollybrown.com. 126

FIRST ACT IN SUN VALLEY Kashus Culpepper brings unreleased album Act I to The Argyros for his Idaho debut

by Marlowe Early

When Kashus Culpepper steps on stage, his energy transforms. Reserved by nature, the singer-songwriter commands attention with his soulful melodies. “I have to step into another side of me,” he says. “I don’t really like attention normally, but on stage, you have to be outgoing. It’s me, but a different part of me.” The performer in Kashus emerges through his audience. Each night offers an irreplicable experience, channeling the crowd into the music and bringing it to life. Before arenas, Kashus performed for intimate groups around campfires. He first picked up a guitar on a deployment in Spain to play for other service members. It was on those late nights that he became a musician. “Playing for my friends gave me a taste of entertainment and inspired me to write my first songs,” he recalls. After returning home, he joined a Southern rock band before relocating to Nashville to tell his own stories. Modest shows turned into online visibility, earning him opening slots for artists like Darius Rucker, Whiskey Myers, and Sierra Ferrell. Kashus is a natural storyteller, using both rhythm and lyrics to show listeners who he is. His forthcoming album, Act I, is a genrebending exploration of artistry, blending his renowned soulful vocals with folk, blues, and country-rock influences. “It’s been a long journey, and I’m so excited for people to hear a body of work that really represents me,” he says. Each track invites listeners into the musical world he has built. svpn-mag.com

With the unreleased Act I demonstrating his full range, Kashus Culpepper’s Ketchum performances promise a rare opportunity to witness a rising star in an unforgettable live experience. BEHIND THE SCENES Jules Frazier Fine Art Photography by Lori Williams

Serendipitous events happen regularly to Jules Frazier, often accompanied with the need for bold and decisive action. Like the time she met Kirk Anderson and Kevin Syms on an icy slope in Tahoe while shadowing a ski racing photographer for her high school senior project. Emerging photographers themselves (and subsequent longtime Sun Valley locals), the two convinced her to attend the Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, which led her to an illustrious career in advertising content creation. Then, there was the time she answered a wild dare to enter the Days of the Old West rodeo queen contest in Hailey. She won. On a borrowed horse. That escapade set off an unforgettable year as a rodeo queen and sparked the first of her fine art collections. Her American West series became a body of work spanning over 30 years behind the lens, chasing the cultural narrative of western America and backstage rodeo. Now, the Seattle-based photographer has brought her celebrated work to Sun Valley—exhibiting at Saddletree Gallery & Framing—back to where the inspiration for her entire collection was born. During her year of reign, Frazier beautifully documented on film raw, iconic moments of rodeo royalty, its traditions, and its characters. “I wanted behind-the-scenes shots of how people live that lifestyle,” she says. The compilation launched her reputation as a distinguished fine art photographer to collectors worldwide. The photographic series in color on The American Rodeo Queen expanded into several collections, the most popular being Faded Icons of the West, now available in a large-format book, featuring sepia-toned photographs of cowgirls and cowboys, iconic images, and landscapes that interpret the code of the West and its inhabitants. 142

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Frazier visited Sun Valley throughout childhood and later as a photographer and ‘ski bum’ while attending Brooks, which inspired her Mountain Chic Collection. Her childhood was spent pounding moguls and ski racing on Crystal Mountain near Seattle. She recalls road trips in a 1964 Ford Galaxy convertible, and the dynamic and free-spirited ski culture and distinctive fashion of the ‘70s, all of which influenced the emotional expression behind this work. “The ‘70s era is at my core,” Frazier says. “Recreating it through photography has been a joy.” All of Frazier’s curated collections, ranging from coastal to mountain, were designed with style, interiors, and color trends in mind. Some lean monochromatic, others vivid, but all express an editorial style. “I’ve always been drawn to portraiture,” says Frazier. “That’s what I really wanted to accomplish, and I’ve done it in my own way.” The former rodeo queen came full circle when she rode in last year’s Days of the Old West Rodeo grand entry parade, 40 years after being crowned. She had to borrow another horse and some chaps, but from behind the scenes—or rather, lens—a seasoned professional smiled. 

THE WARRIOR WITHIN Delia Dante reimagines the modern woman warrior by Aurora Wilkinson

Strength, power, courage, and bravery: words often used to describe a warrior. But they also reflect women’s lived experiences. Boise-based metal and enamel artist Delia Dante has spent the last several years reimagining that connection through her Woman Warrior Helmet series, which reframes women not as mythical figures but as fighters shaped by resilience, truth, and lived history. The seed for the project came from a simple yet clear realization. “As a female sculptor and welder, I began to notice how rarely women are represented as warriors,” Dante says. “And when they are, they’re often portrayed in a sexualized way rather than as true protectors, fighters, and survivors.” Determined to shift that narrative, she set out to create contemporary armor reflecting the battles women face today, focusing on “equality, identity, and respect” and highlighting the courage shaped through everyday struggles. Her first helmet told her own story, one that felt equally painful and profound. The second, which debuted at Hemmings Gallery in Ketchum this December, honors Mariel Hemingway: author, mental wellness advocate, and longtime Sun Valley icon. Dante was introduced to Hemingway’s journey through filmmaker and writer Karen Day, whose reporting highlights both Hemingway’s public 148

work and the vulnerability within her memoir Out Came the Sun. Dante recalls being struck by Hemingway’s willingness to speak openly about family trauma, generational pain, and the complexities of survival. “Her courage, resilience, and advocacy for others facing trauma are extraordinary,” she says. “For the helmet, I wanted to capture her strength as a survivor and a warrior—not just in her personal battles, but also how she uplifts and empowers other women.” Hemingway’s involvement reflects that shared mission. In Day’s short film, she states, “There’s a warrior in every woman—you just haven’t found her yet.” Her message is as much an invitation as a declaration. Dante’s process blends traditional and modern techniques, including copper electroforming over 3D-printed forms, TIG welding, and intricate contributions from leather tooler Deana Attebery and metalsmith Christina Gilmore. She credits Day’s mentorship and the film’s portrayal of the helmet’s creation for helping the series gain momentum and national visibility. 150

Dante, feeling equally inspired by the Boise-based filmmaker, says that showing the piece in Ketchum felt uniquely fitting. “It’s a place deeply connected to Mariel’s life, and as someone with strong Idaho roots, it feels like the perfect setting to introduce this work,” Dante says. Hemmings Gallery presented the helmet during a one-night special reception, giving the community a first glimpse of an evolving series Dante hopes will grow into a full exhibition of women’s armor, works she describes as “symbolic portraits in metal, invitations to connect with stories of strength and resilience.”  To explore more of Dante’s work, including the evolving Woman Warrior Helmet series, visit deliadante.com.

COLLECTORS SHARE ‘HIDDEN GEMS’ SVMoA exhibition showcases Valley’s exceptional art by Rory Slattery

Each artwork in Hidden Gems: Idaho Collects reflects a choice, a curiosity, a moment of appreciation, and a sense of community. Paintings, sculptures, and works on paper, which are usually seen only by a handful of visitors, now gather in dialogue, revealing surprising connections across decades, movements, and geographies. Hidden Gems: Idaho Collects brings together exceptional artworks from private collections throughout the Wood River Valley and southern Idaho, offering an exhibition that is as much about the region’s collecting community as the artists and themes

represented. Here, subtle Milton Avery landscape paintings hang near the conceptual boldness of Ed Ruscha. Nearby, works by René Magritte, Andy Warhol, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney, Carmen Herrera, Teresita Fernández, and William Wiley join the conversation, their presence a testament to the depth and ambition of collecting in southern Idaho. Together, the remarkable range of works conveys a vivid picture of the Valley’s discerning eye. Alia Ali This December, Gilman Contemporary will introduce the work of Alia Ali, an artist with roots in Yemen, Bosnia, and the United States. Ali explores themes of identity, displacement, and migration through photographs that blur the line between portraiture and abstraction. Figures are enveloped in vibrantly patterned cloths that obscure identifying characteristics. Every portrait is presented in a hand-upholstered frame, crafted from the same fabric depicted in the photograph, extending the work beyond its visual borders. For Ali, fabric is a powerful symbol of acceptance, resistance, and life itself. From the swaddles of infancy to the shrouds of death, textiles accompany us through every stage of existence. In her work, Ali examines the beauty and complexity of cloth and the weight of its meaning. She explores its power to protect and conceal, to define and transform. Each piece encourages viewers to consider how fabric shapes our understanding of identity, culture, and the human experience.

Mayme Kratz In The Length of Daylight, Arizona-based artist Mayme Kratz explores the beauty of organic materials found underfoot during long walks in the desert. From these fragile natural remnants, Kratz draws both medium and muse. Her shapes and compositions feel both earthly and cosmic, suggesting that the smallest details in nature can mirror the vastness of the stars. Dana Piazza Gilman Contemporary will also exhibit the work of Dana Piazza, a Massachusetts-based artist whose practice explores the dynamic tension between order and unpredictability. Piazza’s abstract drawings and paintings, created on paper, panel, and canvas, begin from a single origin mark and evolve through a meticulous process of repetition and variation. Guided by self-devised algorithms, he allows for subtle, unintentional deviations that inform the next mark. This chain reaction guides each work of art toward an unknown outcome, resulting in compelling illusions of depth and movement rendered in a single, richly pigmented color. Through this balance of chaos and control, Piazza investigates themes of chance, discovery, and the passage of time. Line 299 by Dana Piazza pigmented ink on watercolor paper 40” x 30”

Broschofsky Galleries 360 East Avenue | Ketchum 208.726.4950 brogallery.com

Echoes of the West Broschofsky Galleries is pleased to present a diverse range of works with a distinctly Western flavor, introducing new artists and perspectives for 2026. The exhibition celebrates the enduring spirit of the West—interpreted through painting, sculpture, and mixed media—while showcasing innovative approaches that blend tradition with contemporary expression.

Byron Buchanan Influenced by early pictorial photography, Byron Buchanan creates photorealistic paintings using a meticulous combination of airbrushed acrylics, oil, and pencil. His compositions often weave in historical references through collage and found objects, layered with tactile interventions using tools such as screwdrivers and sandpaper. These weathered surfaces evoke a sense of time’s passage and memory, giving his works a distinctly aged and soulful presence.

Gordon McConnell Drawing inspiration from the classic Western films of John Ford, Sergio Leone, and Sam Peckinpah, Gordon McConnell distills cinematic motion into single, expressive moments. His paintings—based on individual film frames—capture the drama and dynamism of horse and rider in motion. With a loose, gestural technique, McConnell conveys both the power and poetry inherent in Western imagery, where dust, air, and motion merge into painterly abstraction.

Pitar Grounded in geometric purity, Pitar’s animal sculptures embody balance and harmony through minimalist form. Working with materials such as volcanic stone, bronze, and iron, he translates natural movement into refined, origami-like structures. His work bridges the organic and the architectural, offering a serene counterpoint to the expressive energy of his peers.

Together, these artists expand the visual language of the American West—blending realism and abstraction, nostalgia and innovation—to create a collection that honors heritage while embracing new frontiers. Also featuring works by Bill Barrett, Duke Beardsley, Rudi Broschofsky, Russell Chatham, Edward Curtis, Jan Grotenbreg, Kollabs, Joan Mitchell, Ken Peloke, Billy Schenck, Fritz Scholder, Theodore Villa, Andy Warhol, and David Yarrow.

OCHI 119 Lewis Street | Ketchum 208.309.4093 ochigallery.com

I woke from a dream of an impossible machine.

Vanishing Point Through January 10, 2026 Artists’ Reception Monday, December 29, 5-7pm

OCHI is pleased to present Vanishing Point, a group exhibition featuring works by Dike Blair, Vija Celmins, Cooper Cox, Beaux Mendes, Bryan Morello, and Emma Webster. Vanishing Point traces the moment when perception falters and the landscape turns inward. Horizons blur, perspectives invert, and the world seems to fold in on itself—not disappearing but reconfiguring into something at once alien and achingly familiar. The works gathered inhabit that in-between: places that shimmer between material and mirage, where light behaves like memory and form resists reality. Simulated and hand-wrought, intimate and cosmic, all converge on the moment when place slips into the imagination. 166

On the Horizon, 2025 by Emma Webster oil on linen 72” x 96” 182.9 x 243.8 cm 2025

Whirring and spitting equations, it reads the temperature of sound, composing the music of knotted pines and gurgling brooks. It is outfitted with many lenses that sweep round in tiny orbit, calibrating focus, bending lightheat, carving intricate glass lines in sand. Whispering my desire through a tiny steel receiver, its innards spark frenzied movement, gears tilt into a whirling dance. A slippery smoke of spores floats from the machine, filling the air before me with an undulating image, a forest of a thousand silver needles. From within this mist appears a fleeting figure weaving its way through, its shadow bows and warps in the mirrored surface of the reflective field. Growing ever larger, the figure, almost-human, steps out from this fogged mirage, reaching out to touch. The sun rises over the terminal horizon, day breaks and rippling waves of heat crawl across the long and sloping plane. I think of home, my cabin in the mountains, a structure no more than memory, the imprint of one’s face in snow, its form melting from mind. I remember so many things: campfires in the pale night, the day the orb appeared, all the animals I can now no longer name but whose strange calls echo in quiet moments. In this aching persistence of days, the only trace of myself lies in receding footsteps, winnowed by wind and smoothed by the cold lick of time.

Hemmings Gallery 340 Walnut Avenue | Ketchum 208.254.1097 hemmingsgallery.com

Charlotte Hemmings Phantom West Opening Night Friday, December 26 5-7:30pm

Artist Charlotte Hemmings’ mixed-media works probe the mythology of the American West, where the spectacle of the rodeo is both subject and metaphor. Hyper-iconic imagery drawn from cowboy and rodeo traditions is transferred onto canvas, then deliberately dismantled through paint— gestural marks, drips, and swaths of raw pigment pulling clarity into collapse. Horses charge into chromatic noise, flags dissolve into paint’s physicality, and dust becomes pure pigment. What begins as an iconic spectacle shifts into a fractured, shimmering residue of memory and myth. This process opens a dialogue about how cultural narratives are constructed, romanticized, and revised. For the artist, that 170

conversation is personal. “As an Idaho native now distanced from fully rural rhythms, I stand in a liminal space—close enough to feel the pull of heritage, yet distant enough to see its contradictions. The rodeo—already a performance of myth—becomes even more performative, refracted through technological and painterly lenses. What remains is neither fixed history nor pure invention, but something in between: a luminous vision of the West suspended between belonging and estrangement, heritage and reinvention,” says Hemmings.

Below: Champagne Dreams by Jules Frazier 51” x 24” Right: Fall Snow Corral Creek by Jerry Hadam 36” x 36”

Jules Frazier Award-winning fine art and advertising photographer Jules Frazier debuts a solo exhibition featuring her renowned American West series, along with her playful new collection Mountain Chic and the launch of her highly anticipated coffee table book, Faded Icons of the West. In addition, 2025 marks a full-circle moment for Frazier—40 years since she was crowned Miss Hailey Rodeo Queen in 1985. She earned that title on a dare during a ski trip to Sun Valley, which disrupted her plans to move to New York and pursue fashion photography. That surprise detour became the catalyst for a lifelong body of work capturing Western life with an unfiltered, poetic perspective. 172

svpn-mag.com

“Three weeks after putting down a deposit on a Manhattan apartment, I found myself riding in a rodeo parade and falling in love with the stories and spirit of the West,” says Frazier. “That experience changed everything.” Frazier’s images are from her most popular series, Faded Icons of the West, along with Mountain Chic, a lighter, modern interpretation of alpine life. Both series showcase her signature mix of nostalgia, resilience, and editorial style— portraits, landscapes, and moments that embody the grit, humor, and soul of Western culture.

Walking into the Pioneer Saloon in Ketchum is like greeting an old friend. It’s often the first stop for locals coming home or visitors starting a memorable vacation. For more than 50 years, the Pioneer has been welcoming its loyal customers with a warm and cozy atmosphere that feels more like someone’s home than a restaurant. Renowned for perfectly aged and flavorful beef, many varieties of seafood, fresh Idaho rainbow trout, and Northwest regional specials, the Pioneer is much more than a steakhouse. Unique and historic western art fills the bar and restaurant, reminiscent of earlier days when pioneers settled in this valley. Authentic and genuine friendly service from familiar faces will make you feel as though you have arrived home when you walk in the door. As the locals say, “If you haven’t been to the Pioneer Saloon, you haven’t been to Ketchum.”

Clockwise from top: The Pioneer Saloon originally opened in the 1950s; flavorful beef on the grill; the interior of Pioneer Saloon.

The Sawtooth Club

Always busy with a fun mix of locals and visitors alike, The Sawtooth Club has been downtown Ketchum’s most beloved destination for dining and cocktails since the days when Ernest Hemingway himself was a regular there. Nowadays, the place is more popular than ever with an inspired menu offering a mouthwatering blend of creative small plates to share, grilled steaks, chops & ribs, healthy vegetarian dishes, fresh seafood, unique pasta bowls, nightly specials and much more. In the bar enjoy handcrafted cocktails, 16 wines by the glass, and 12 ice-cold craft brews on tap. Dinner offerings this season include fresh Idaho trout, filet mignon, linguine with clams, chicken Senegalese, flatiron steak bearnaise, rack of lamb, ribeye steak, butternut squash ravioli, Manchester Farms quail, BBQ baby back ribs, vegan noodle bowl, Wagyu beef meatloaf, pasta Portofino, baked brie en croute, fresh steamer clams, seared ahi salad, awesome burgers and sandwiches, to name just a few. Much of our grilling is done over a live mesquite fire. This method of natural wood cooking generates the intense heat that sears in the flavorful juices and imparts a variety of subtle tastes and aromas to meat, poultry & seafood. An award-winning wine list complements the wonderful food, and winter nights around the large central fireplace are not to be missed. One visit and you’ll know why The Sawtooth Club has repeatedly been voted the “Valley’s Best Overall Restaurant and The Valley’s Best Bar!”

Michel’s Christiania

Few other restaurants in Ketchum are as steeped in history as the legendary Christiania. Known as “The Christy” to locals, the restaurant has been in operation since 1959 when Ernest Hemingway dined there so often he had his own table. To get your own glimpse of ski history, come to the famous Olympic Bar, where photos and mementos from former owner Michel Rudigoz’s time as the U.S. Women’s Olympic Ski Team Coach adorn the walls. For a true culinary experience, you will enjoy French cuisine

that is also inspired by Michel’s background in Lyon (the country’s culinary capital). Your meal will be a pièce de résistance! Entrées like Wild Salmon in Sorrel Sauce and Braised Lamb Shank appear nightly on the menu in addition to an infusion of specials like the Poisson du Jour and Pâté de Campagne. The menu also features Lyonnaise pomme frites and fresh salads and, of course, Michel’s famous and extensive wine list.
